The room was ok though very warm (a fan was provided and the window opened) and the bathroom had no extractor fan. Chair & sofa were a velvet type material which I dislike. The curtains failed to blackout due to moth holes. The second floor has multiple stairs and each trip to or from the room felt like a hike. Breakfast was good and staff were attentive and there is plenty of free parking.

A nice hotel that lacks enthusiasm and could do with a deep clean. Feels like it only really cares about conferences and the rooms are a bit dated. A comfortable stay but little things like the gym being dirty, no handwash in the rooms and grubby towels made it feel unloved.

The hotel was lovely, set in fabulous grounds. The room was lovely and staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Most of the food wasn't labelled with allergens though, so had to ask. Sadly the bar was poorly stocked. Half of the pumps were off and the only snacks available were nuts. The bed and pillows were hard. The hotel served us well enough though for an overnighter on the way to a family function.

The hotel is not in good condition, there is cracks all over the bedroom, the carpets are old and stained. Radiators clearly don’t work as they put an extra heater in the room. The windows are in very bad condition. The gym is not great and one of the machines does not work. I would not recommend this hotel or would I stay here again. You get what you pay for!

Friendly staff. Good facilities for our corporate event. Decor a bit tired and dated, but the room was clean and the bathroom serviceable. Would appreciate it if the massive potholes coming into the hotel drive were filled. Good size carpark that felt secure.

We booked an alleged 4* hotel (according to Hotels.com) but it was far from it. I have been to better 3* hotels than this. On arrival, the car park was not gritted. The car park was full and the ice had made the whole place extremely dangerous. During check in, we were told the lifts were out of order and we were right on the other side of the second floor. The room was disappointing with old, worn out lights and how compact the room was. There were stains all over the curtains and finger prints in the bathroom. The kitchen was extremely busy. We waited for 45mins for our food but we never received it. We would have appreciated a heads up on the wait time so we could plan something else. Ended up asking for refund and headed out for a meal. Would say, generally poor.

Interesting place . Beautiful grounds , adequate breakfast . Some public areas a little shabby . What saved it was the room was cosy & bathroom were very clean . The back of the building needs investment and new facade. Looks a little institutional. Main problem, lift had been out of order for a couple of weeks and still out of service. We would go again only when the lift is working.

Booked as attending a wedding locally. When we Arrived there was plenty of parking. Gardens nice but it looks tired. Check in very quick and efficient. Room on the small size but had all we needed. Clean and quiet. The bed was really comfy and we had a good nights sleep. The bar had good range of drinks, tired decoration but again clean and spacious. Not a lot of staff and the bar was mainly unmanned and you had to go back to reception to get someone to come and make a drink but staff all friendly. The drinks are on the expensive side but to be expected for location. Breakfast was disappointing. when we arrived for breakfast at 9.30am there wasn’t any hot breakfast left and we had to wait for 20 mins and it came out in bits and pieces and was really greasy so we couldn’t eat it. So felt a lot of money for tea and toast!

This was a nice property, but it’s very outdated, and quite worn out. However, does offer a quiet, and comfortable(ish) bed. I definitely wouldn’t stay here longer than a night, but wasn’t too bad. For example, bits of the carpet were missing, my showerhead was broken, there were cobwebs and dust which clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The TV is something from 2000s.

Not so good really, convenient location for my trip but room was not so great. Stains everywhere, some on the curtains that looked disgusting and definitely didn’t need to be there. Duvet cover had a rip in it that was a few feet long so exposed to duvet. No way house keeping could possibly miss this so it was knowingly put on. Hairs in bed. Didn’t stay for breakfast but they did have coffee in the lobby in the morning which was a nice touch

Very run down hotel,shower leaking into carpet through the wall,central heating not working so had a very old electric fire with a piece of wood as a foot!Smells of damp,curtain ripped,dirty room,couldn’t use kettle or cups as stank and had a sticky film on cups,toilet leaking water,very noisy pump,completely different to website photos!

Room smelt of stale smoke. It was worse near the bedside cabinet and then I spotted the telephone that was filthy and that is where the smell was coming from. We had to sit it on the window ledge behind the curtain to try and get rid of the small, it was also thick with dust behind the cabinet. Both curtains were ripped on the edges, there was no privacy either so had to have the curtains closed as windows were bare. Room had not been throughly cleaned and there were marks on the bedsheet too.

I had cobwebs in our room and it generally had not been cleaned properly. Stains to carpet and worn. When I left my jacket which had been in wardrobe had a large spider in it. Having paid a significant amount for 2 nights stay very disappointed.

No soundproofing. Had to move rooms at 1am as people in next room talking and felt like they were in our room. Not there fault the building needs soundproofing to run as a hotel, it’s clean it’s convenient BUT needs to spend money on soundproofing. The next room not as bad but could still hear others upstairs. Wouldn’t stay again.

Nice clean room , my only gripe is the shower , out of 3 taps on the wall 2 of them seem to just turn shower off , one appeared to do nothing and wasn’t clear how to turn the hot water down as it became scalding hot very quickly but for an overnight stay in a very reasonable priced room I’d use again

Hotel has been beautiful once, but this was many years ago. It is nowhere near a four star now. Corridor’s and rooms in need of refurbishment, wifi not working in bedroom. Breakfast buffet selection ok but food not hot, dining room like the rest of the hotel is looking tired.

My recent stay in this hotel wasn't great. I have asked for a quiet room (like before) but got one facing the M1 motorway. Therefore it was noisy as traffic was constant day and night. The room conditions were not great either.

Cot was not available as late booking . Room was freezing with no heating and we all got sick . No wifi at all and no coverage either . Phone to call reception in the room faulty .

Check in slow as although staff member free it appeared that the second computer on the check in desk couldn't be used?? We were at the furthest point on the second floor and directed by check in staff to take the lift to the 2nd floor when in fact we had to take lift to 1st floor and walk to furthest point and then use stairs- not easy with lots of bags!!

We didn’t like the fact we couldn’t find our room, it was up or down stairs, or ther side of building. Took us ages to find our room,even with help of staff! Very confusing! Our friends had the same problem! Took the lift as advised but still far from our room!

I picked the Aubrey Park as i stayed here the year before, it was closest to the House and Classics event at the Hertfordshire showground that year. Stayed with a friend this year and it was just as good as the previous year. I was allowed to park up early and leave our bags. The night person remembered me from the previous stay and checked us in no bother at midnight when we returned from the event. Nice hotel and staff. Would stay here every time.

Sad part is that we chose this hotel to watch the football, when we was ready to have food at the bar and watch football we were told that it doesn’t work. So we had to leave the hotel in the rain to find a pub to watch the game. Hotel staff didn’t help or assist with recommendations. The breakfast in the morning, very mediocre, the area was very dated, didn’t look very pleasant. I wouldn’t stay here again, overall the hotel was a 2/5, very dusty and unclean.

Staff were very helpful (I was there convalescing after an operation). Staff shortages meant that a room meal was late/forgotten, and my room was not cleaned at all one day.

Friendly staff. Good facilities for our corporate event. Decor a bit tired and dated, but the room was clean and the bathroom serviceable. Would appreciate it if the massive potholes coming into the hotel drive were filled. Good size carpark that felt secure.

At best the hotel is tired. Staff make you feel an inconvenience. The rooms need attention. The fire alarm went off at 1am and nobody ever apologised. All the grounds need some attention. Senior staff sat around have private meetings

Booked as attending a wedding locally. When we Arrived there was plenty of parking. Gardens nice but it looks tired. Check in very quick and efficient. Room on the small size but had all we needed. Clean and quiet. The bed was really comfy and we had a good nights sleep. The bar had good range of drinks, tired decoration but again clean and spacious. Not a lot of staff and the bar was mainly unmanned and you had to go back to reception to get someone to come and make a drink but staff all friendly. The drinks are on the expensive side but to be expected for location. Breakfast was disappointing. when we arrived for breakfast at 9.30am there wasn’t any hot breakfast left and we had to wait for 20 mins and it came out in bits and pieces and was really greasy so we couldn’t eat it. So felt a lot of money for tea and toast!

The hotel was clean and spacious and the staff friendly. There were no restaurant facilities but as I was visiting relatives it didn’t matter to me but could have been an issue if I hadn’t already eaten as there are no eating places nearby without a drive. I wasn’t informed if this when I booked

Hotel has been beautiful once, but this was many years ago. It is nowhere near a four star now. Corridor’s and rooms in need of refurbishment, wifi not working in bedroom. Breakfast buffet selection ok but food not hot, dining room like the rest of the hotel is looking tired.

Hotel is tired in places and need of some renovation. Room was clean but quite a trek from reception and the felt old mattress wasn't comfortable. Breakfast was disappointing as some of the cooked items had run out and those left were cold, I guess it was just bad timing. Staff were friendly and welcoming and overall our stay was ok for one night, but would agree with some of the other comments that this doesn't feel like a 4star hotel.

Overall stay was ok, probably not worth the cost for 1 night. Food served in the bar was absolutely ridiculous, £18 for a badly seasoned chicken breast and a handful of chips. Staff were all friendly, room was mostly clean other than when the bed moved. Would be great if the shower screen actually stopped the water soaking the floor

Lovely stay at the hotel. Helpful kind welcome staff on reception. Lots of space in our junior suite. Lovely gym. Had a lovely meal in the evening and were impressed with the standard. The staff were lovely and accommodating with the kids. The grounds could do we a tidy up to be able to use the outdoor tables and pergola etc. The breakfast was nice but we arrived at 9.20 and felt like it was the end of breakfast although it said there was breakfast till 10. We wouldn’t want to waste food but it would have been nice to been offered to get anything that had run out such as bacon pastries etc but we had to ask for this, only a small thing but would have made us few more welcome for breakfast etc. overall we had a lovely stay and would come back.

Hotel looks great on website but when you get there quite a different story. Very dated, badly maintained, garden furniture in very bad condition and dirty, which is a same as lovely gardens. Our room was very basic with tap coming away from bathroom sink and chips in shower base, water also went everywhere as shower screen is not long enough, definately not a £99 room, more like a £55 room. On the plus side food was really good but very over priced, and drinks are very over priced, you would need a mortgage to stay there all weekend if you were eating and drinking there. Staff were very polite.

Went to breakfast about 9:30 and they were serving till 10:30, but there was just scraps left. So our paid breakfast was 2 slices of toast. I see people asking where the food was and they were bringing out the odd item out separately so we paid for nothing.

we stayed here whilst visiting St Albans, it was perfect. Room was lovely,very comfortable bed, powerful shower, very clean. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, would recommend, tasty and good value. Breakfast was very good, nice selection and the cooked breakfast set us up for the rest of the day. Bar was good too, overall a perfect stay with lovely friendly staff. No hesitation in staying here again.

Don’t bother. Didn’t have any hot water on the morning of check out. Receptionist didn’t give the impression there was an issue. Expect issues for a reasonably expensive hotel.

Have stayed here for the past 5 years when at a nearby dance festival. Breakfast was lovely, the staff are all very helpful, the grounds are well kept. Only a couple things stopped me giving an excellent all round. Crap WiFi in the room (140) and some of the door frames are rotten and there was flaking paint on the ceiling. Otherwise it was as good as it always has been.

The room was very clean & the staff very nice. Went to have a shower before going out to find there was no hot water. When we asked they said there was a problem with the boiler but should have hot water by the morning. Morning came & no hot water to shower, not happy. The grounds were very poor & much needed attention.
