room was a bit cramped with very little space for 2 people and the shower room was also very tight for space. Glass shelf hanging over the small sink not a good idea! The decor in the public areas (staircases, entrance hall, etc) very tired, marks on walls, worn carpet. Breakfast ok, but buffet shouldn't have fried eggs lying for ages (hard and cold). No teapot or teaspoons available - very poor for a modern hotel. Pool area - dirty, unattended and really past its best. I reported an overflowing bin and showers not working properly to the front desk but as far as I could see no action was taken. Front desk staff were friendly, restaurant staff at breakfast a bit harassed by the feel of things. We didn't use the bar.

We were told on arrival that the pool was open at an extra cost of £5 per person per day. That was fine , but when we wanted to use it were told it was closed for maintenance purposes. This was the same every day. We should have been told of this before hand . Otherwise very nice place to stay! Really should deliver on what customers pay for!!

I’ve been staying at this Muthu for many years now. The reasons for coming back have been the view, facilities and the ease of parking. Recently, the staff have remained consistent and I’ve found them to be polite, pleasant and happy to engage. We love the lounge area and the pool. Some updating could be done, but the rooms have the dated quirkiness which is appealing. It would also be nice if repeat customers were recognised for their loyalty. I’m not sure if Muthu’s systems allow for such tracking, Hiwever, another wonderful visit to Oban.

Our room was nice but could maybe do with upgrading, especially the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the view from the room was wonderful. The hotel has a lovely dining room and dinner and breakfast were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were disappointed the lift was out of order as I have arthritis in my knee but just has to cope with the inconvenience.

Breakfast was fresh, Limited choice in the bar but what was there was very nice. Dinner was average (buffet). Water temperature in pool could have been much warmer. However, overall, very pleasant and good value for money.

Healthy, tasty food with good choices. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Swimming pool and steam room were good. Change of original allocated room was okay. Mattress not the most comfortable. Overall hotel was a bit tired and probably needs some money spent on it. However the friendly staff interaction made it an enjoyable stay.

Pros: Amazing location and views. Spacious room. Breakfast was excellent. Room was clean. Cons: Bathroom was small and dated. Needs an upgrade. Pool was not heated as advertised.

Very good location for exploring the area. Worth getting a room with a sea view. Room very comfortable and clean. Food ok, but it pays to book in advance. Breakfast very good. Parking can be a bit of a lottery, but there’s a public car park nearby. Easy walk into the centre of Oban and a nice walk up the back of the hotel to a castle. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend.

Overall the place is ok. Managed by MGM Hotels (they have many hotels internationally). Some aspects are excellent (water and chocolate in room, complimentary prosecco) but decor is dated (and unusual). Reception staff were great. Bar wasn't always staffed so had to call for people. Only had breakfast which was poor - buffet style, had to wait to sign in, no cups, completely self service.

We were not placed in the room we booked, which apparently does not even exist. The sheets were dirty on one of the beds, and there were dirty bandaids littered across the entryway to our room. The staff was very kind and attentive, but it's hard to make up for that feeling that you are sleeping in a really dirty room.

At breakfast I had a table in the corner next to the window on the front. There were a number of ants on the window ledge. I reported it to reception after breakfast who were very apologetic and concerned and advised that a pest exterminator was coming in the next few days. Otherwise all was good. I had a single room with sea view and bed was a little small (maybe not used to single beds) and whilst the sea view was excellent it was through a rather small window.

a few big and thick spider webs could be found inside the room. the exhaust fan in the bathroom was FULL of dust. I believe it was not cleaned for at least 3 months. Staff was nice, swimming pool was nice.

This hotel was conveniently located and the hotel itself looks impressive from the outside. We stayed in a family suite which is in more of a motel-type building behind the parking lot. The room was spacious, but felt like it needed updating. The water pressure in the shower was not great and the water temperature was pretty inconsistent - the first morning (very early) I had a cold shower, the second day (later in the morning) it was just warm enough, and on the third day it was a good temperature for me, but my husband's shower wasn't hot enough. There were ants in the suite. They provide the makings for tea and hot chocolate in the room, which was really nice, but when the cleaning service came in they did not switch out our dirty hot chocolate mugs and spoons for clean ones. There are no fridges in the rooms; however, the staff were happy to store some food we bought, for a day trip the next day, in the hotel fridge overnight which was really nice. Our door would not lock on our first day and a repair person was called and there within 10 minutes. So service was good when you approached with a problem, and front desk staff was friendly. We had the breakfast buffet on our last day and it was excellent! The pool was also a really nice feature and we used it twice. It was quiet and safe and we had a pleasant stay.

Do NOT stay here! We arrived to a very dated hotel and a dirty room. The overall condition of this hotel is dated and very worn. The hotel staff were average, the breakfast was basic, inadequate and poor quality.

Loved our room, quiet , clean with a great king sized bed which was very comfortable making you feel relaxed and cozy. Navigating the many up and down halls was a bit of a maze like challenge , better information on how to find our room would have been helpful as well as where to locate fire exits . The decor is a little ornate from my perspective but pleasing . The staff were very welcoming and friendly, always comforting to tired travellers. The dining facility was very pleasant and the food selection very good.

I paid £400 for two nights at this hotel. I have mobility issues and there wasn’t a lift facility for all floors. We were allocated a room that required going up and down stairs and a long walk to get to the room. The room was ‘tired’, the beds were uncomfortable, the pillows were ‘lumpy’, the shower was unusable because of poor water flow. The swimming pool was dirty and unusable in my opinion. The description of the hotel and facilities on their website was not true to the actual hotel facilities. Very disappointed that when I complained to the staff about the room etc to be told that they were busy and this was the only room they could give me. The hotel was quiet when we were there, plus I also told the staff that I had booked and paid in full a yar beforehand!

The hotel was lovely with friendly staff. The room and bed was very large, a little dated and could do with more power sockets. Also the shower head would not stay in the holder so you had to hand hold. The breakfast was very tasty.

Overall it did the job. The shower had no pressure, at all. I think my room was close to the kitchen because I heard dishes being made for hours. The walls aren’t very thick, I could hear my neighbour so definitely bring earplugs. The staff and the pool was nice.

Our room was very spacious and a great bed. Bathroom was pretty good and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast menu selection was good hot and cold available with multiple options. The dinner service wasn’t up to standard unfortunately. The staff were great but wait times from the kitchen not satisfactory.

Arrival was a little upsetting as we had asked for use of a wheelchair and phoned the week before to check availability, told there was no wheelchair. After a short while a solution was found and the wheelchair was usable thankfully. The room was perfect well appointed and super view of the bay. the staff were friendly and happy to help when asked only real negative was dinner service was very slow.

I’ve been staying at this Muthu for many years now. The reasons for coming back have been the view, facilities and the ease of parking. Recently, the staff have remained consistent and I’ve found them to be polite, pleasant and happy to engage. We love the lounge area and the pool. Some updating could be done, but the rooms have the dated quirkiness which is appealing. It would also be nice if repeat customers were recognised for their loyalty. I’m not sure if Muthu’s systems allow for such tracking, Hiwever, another wonderful visit to Oban.

We were unable to travel to this hotel due to Tropical storm Amy closing down all roads and trains. I contacted the hotel to see if there was any refund for our rooms as this was through no fault of ours. This was the ONLY hotel throughout our entire 3 week stay that was unwilling to refund even a portion of our money. Even though we know that there were guest stranded there as well and using those rooms. Luckily our hotel in Glasgow worked with us and many, many others to help with this unfortunate situation. I will highly recommend all of the other 6 hotels we stayed at and tell everyone to steer clear of Muthu Alexandra Hotel.

Hotel accommodation and staff was very good. Unfortunately although the menu was really good for evening dinner. The meal was a reheat .staff disappeared after serving the dinner which was quite frustrating as they took our cutlery. Desert was poor once we fiund staff and no tea or coffee offered

Overall the place is ok. Managed by MGM Hotels (they have many hotels internationally). Some aspects are excellent (water and chocolate in room, complimentary prosecco) but decor is dated (and unusual). Reception staff were great. Bar wasn't always staffed so had to call for people. Only had breakfast which was poor - buffet style, had to wait to sign in, no cups, completely self service.

This property does show its age. The staff we’re overall unhelpful and unwelcoming and we were charged an extra 45 pounds for having 3 people in a triple room. When asked to have follow up on this I am still waiting 5 days later for a call from management that was unavailable to address my concerns.

The Muthu Alexandra Hotel was a good choice for visiting Oban. Located on the far side of town looking over the seaside walk, you can enjoy a great view of the harbour and the rest of town. It’s walkable to get to both main streets, and also the ferry dock, which opens up the surrounding islands during your visit. I thought it was a good choice for visiting the town.

Very good location for exploring the area. Worth getting a room with a sea view. Room very comfortable and clean. Food ok, but it pays to book in advance. Breakfast very good. Parking can be a bit of a lottery, but there’s a public car park nearby. Easy walk into the centre of Oban and a nice walk up the back of the hotel to a castle. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend.

Breakfast was fresh, Limited choice in the bar but what was there was very nice. Dinner was average (buffet). Water temperature in pool could have been much warmer. However, overall, very pleasant and good value for money.

This os not the first time i have visited this hotel. The standard of food was terrible with limited options. Last year you had choices from a menu and the quality of the food was outstanding. This time you had a buffet menu resulting in a choice of belly pork or samosa steamed veg or pasta and potatoes. Pumpkin spice soup and a çhoice of two deserts this was first night the food wasnt very hot. Not worth £25.00 pp. Breakfast was lovely well worth the £13.00. Evening menu on second night another buffet menu with a choice of chicken in creamy sauce or vegetable pakora steamed veg pasta in a cream sauce and wedges pumpkin soup and chocolate gateaux and strawberry cheese cake again not worth the £25:00pp for luke warm food and poor choice of food very dissapointing dining experience compared to last year.

Could be much better given the excellent position it has with views over the bay. Highly disappointed with the dinner option as was expecting fine dining and seafood restaurant as stated on the hotel building in large letters. They couldn't even tell us what the dinner menu would be as the chef hadn't sent it through until very late in the day by which time we had decided to look elsewhere. Room refresh left much to be desired, not even rinsing used cups on one occasion, just the bin emptied that day. Bins in toilet areas ought to have lids on, not be open waste paper bins. Seriously overpriced and outdated. In serious need of a refurb to drag it into the 2020s. Arrived and were allocated our sea view double room. Tiny and not what is shown on hotel.com app. We complained and were then give a slightly larger room with a large tree blocking the sea view we paid extra for. The Indoor swimming pool, that we hoped would soften the blow of such a disappointing room turned out to be unheated and quite frankly unusable. The Restaurant was closed in the evening and only available for breakfast. If you have mobility issues please be aware you will need to find alternative off site options. We won’t be back, avoid.

hotel was situated in good positoin close to town centre and with plenty of parking on site, the overall hotel decor looked like it had beem refurbished recently, all areas clean and well mantained. the room was spacious bed and bathroom excellent tea coffee provided as described. the staff very friendly and professional and always around to help. the bar small but carered for the number of guests that were staying there with us. overall the hotel standards were very good and our stay was a lovely experience.
