The Gillygate

The good: Absolutely wonderful staff, they couldn't have made us feel more welcome Great location - less than 5 mind walk to the minster and a tesco express almost opposite which was open until 11pm each night Comfy bed Parking included The pub underneath was noisy during open mic but it stopped bang on the dot of 11pm so it didn't bother us The chef kindly did us a couple of breakfast baps in silver foil on the day we had an early start, which was super kind of them. The less good: Our room (2) had an adjoining door to another room and the sound proofing is non existant - we could literally hear the other guests snoring at night! Emergency green light on the ceiling drove me mad but we covered it up The macerator made a bit of a din every time we flushed the toilet Breakfast time was between 9-9.30 which we felt was a bit tight window but it was accompanied by the offer of an earlier or later time upon request No mustard!

Great accommodation for the price in York! Parking included is a bonus. Felt welcome the moment we walked in. Room was great and surprisingly spacious. Freshly cooked breakfast offered in the morning. We will be back!

Very noisy and not a peaceful stay. The bathroom and toilets are not on suite ! Not mentioned clearly in the booking.

The room was a really nice size. Clean and tidy with a comfy bed and the shower was very good. There was a kettle and a TV. We were in one of the outside rooms and it was very quiet even though there was a beer garden. The pub itself was very nice and all the staff were really welcoming and friendly. There was some refurbishment being done on the exterior of the property but this was not intrusive at all as we were out all day exploring

Not much in the way of room cleaning during our 3 night stay. Music downstairs in the main bar was extremely loud; luckily we found the subtitles for the TV! Staff friendly.
