Beautiful historical hotel with expansive wrap around balcony. The bathroom is updated and very upscale. The room maintained historical ambience while providing modern comfort. The bar is fantastic with many draft options and creative cocktail menu. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but it was full of locals. This is the place to stay.

Cozy stay at this beautiful place. Spacious and clean rooms. Bed was super comfortable. Nice common space seating, restaurant and tavern as part of the complex. Easy walking to shopping, restaurants and river walk. Service was exceptional and everyone was nice.

Lovely old Inn in the heart of Hillsborough. They have complimentary coffee every morning and biscuits if you ask for them. Even though it was not listed as an ADA room a grab bar in the shower would help due to shower size. Sky lights are in 2nd floor annex rooms. While lovely, the sun rises early. The room had been beautifully renovated and was very clean. The Inn offers lunch and dinner. However there are lots of fun places to eat in town. It’s best to sit outside and enjoy a beverage.

The Colonial Inn is historic in Hillsborough NC. After years of neglect, a number of families came together to buy, restore & refurbish the grand old building as well as building a new addition with we’ll appoint, modern rooms. Everything from morning coffe and cinnamon buns service to luxurious bed linens adds to the pleasure of our stays here. Plus, great staff especially a woman named Nancy!

We loved staying here for our anniversary and will probably make it an annual occurrence. The hotel is right downtown and near restaurants, and parking is right in front. If you want to stay in a hotel from the 1700s in Hillsborough, then this is the place to go.

This property is a must to add to your list of stays. Outstanding Inn and local shops and and restaurants. Excellent all around. Staff were all extremely friendly. Make sure you visit the restaurant and bar located inside. The bartender Oz is super cool!!!

We had a king room that was compact but very clean and extremely comfortable. Furnishings and bath were perfect. Great front porch for relaxing with a drink and the Inn location is wonderful for walking in the historic area of town. While you can get dinner or lunch in the hotel at Spencer's Tavern, or get danish and coffee in the lobby, we walked a block to Kim's bakery for quiche, scones, and extra coffee in the morning. All delicious. Great place to stay, friendly people, charming town to visit.

This is the second time I've stayed there, and the staff are always great. The room was clean and beautiful, and you can't beat the location. I can't wait to go back.

Positives: clean and well located Negatives: Non-existent soundproofing (I now know much more about the people in the adjacent room and the room above me than I really wanted to.) Inconsistent housekeeping service. One day the room was fully cleaned, the next day the bed was not even made. I don't mean linens changed. I mean they didn't even pull the covers up and put the pillows back in place. Inconsistent front desk attitude, one person pleasant, another borderline rude Maintenance person who entered my room to check the thermostat reeked of smoke. The entire property was supposedly non-smoking. The room lacked a coffee maker. Only way to get coffee was to get dressed, go outside, then re,-enter their lobby. Instead the room had some device that looked like a small electric mop that I can only guess was a shoe duster. This particular room was so tiny. It had no desk or even any writing surface. I can't speak to the other rooms.

We have mixed feelings about our weekend at The Colonial Inn. We thought we'd enjoy our stay more than we did. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. Comfortable bed, good amenities, and ample space. Drawback: the walls are paper thin, and one will hear the guest next door's activities. However, the room had a sound machine, which seemed to do the trick. I read their brunch was good, but the kitchen was closed and not serving brunch that day. Good luck finding anything open around the area before 11:00 AM if you're an early riser. We didn't get to enjoy any other areas around the property since there was a wedding, and pretty much everything else was reserved for that. While I understand the staff's attention and efforts were mostly focused on the wedding, I felt underwhelmed by our experience there. Meh...

Recommend and will stay there again. Rooms are very good - beyond what you would expect for a B&B and more on par with good hotel. On the down side, staff desperately need serious customer service training unless it's the owner herself helping you in which case she is superb!

Beautiful rooms, I arrived late the evening I reserved the room and I was tired from traveling and got there as soon as I could. The night clerk basically let me know that The Colonial Inn "isn't that tpe of establishment".

The staff was terrific, the rooms were pretty and comfortable, and we loved the location in historic Hillsborough, with all the restaurant and bar and lovely old homes and Revolutionary War history.

Cozy stay at this beautiful place. Spacious and clean rooms. Bed was super comfortable. Nice common space seating, restaurant and tavern as part of the complex. Easy walking to shopping, restaurants and river walk. Service was exceptional and everyone was nice.

Hillsborough is a wonderful colonial town with many old homes, churches and other historic sites. Very walkable and dining options are a minute or two stroll away. The Colonial Inn is our HQ when visiting our son and daughter-in-law in Durham.

We loved staying here for our anniversary and will probably make it an annual occurrence. The hotel is right downtown and near restaurants, and parking is right in front. If you want to stay in a hotel from the 1700s in Hillsborough, then this is the place to go.

We had a king room that was compact but very clean and extremely comfortable. Furnishings and bath were perfect. Great front porch for relaxing with a drink and the Inn location is wonderful for walking in the historic area of town. While you can get dinner or lunch in the hotel at Spencer's Tavern, or get danish and coffee in the lobby, we walked a block to Kim's bakery for quiche, scones, and extra coffee in the morning. All delicious. Great place to stay, friendly people, charming town to visit.

Beautiful historical hotel with expansive wrap around balcony. The bathroom is updated and very upscale. The room maintained historical ambience while providing modern comfort. The bar is fantastic with many draft options and creative cocktail menu. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but it was full of locals. This is the place to stay.

The hotel was really cute and very comfortable - the bathroom was beautiful! Only downside was that the restaurant was booked the one night I was there, but luckily had been there for dinner previously just was a little bummed I couldn’t experience it again!

We have mixed feelings about our weekend at The Colonial Inn. We thought we'd enjoy our stay more than we did. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. Comfortable bed, good amenities, and ample space. Drawback: the walls are paper thin, and one will hear the guest next door's activities. However, the room had a sound machine, which seemed to do the trick. I read their brunch was good, but the kitchen was closed and not serving brunch that day. Good luck finding anything open around the area before 11:00 AM if you're an early riser. We didn't get to enjoy any other areas around the property since there was a wedding, and pretty much everything else was reserved for that. While I understand the staff's attention and efforts were mostly focused on the wedding, I felt underwhelmed by our experience there. Meh...

Beautiful, historic building nestled within the sweet little downtown of Hillsborough. Staff was so incredibly friendly, check in was easy, and room service was divine. Beautiful rooms and steps away from locally owned shops.

The Colonial Inn is historic in Hillsborough NC. After years of neglect, a number of families came together to buy, restore & refurbish the grand old building as well as building a new addition with we’ll appoint, modern rooms. Everything from morning coffe and cinnamon buns service to luxurious bed linens adds to the pleasure of our stays here. Plus, great staff especially a woman named Nancy!

Great place to stay for a short getaway. The room was very clean, a good shower, and a very comfortable bed. Negatives are they don’t serve breakfast, the only parking is on the street, and no mini refrigerator. We really enjoyed the town of Hillsborough.

The staff provided an almost home experience for the three days we stayed. David was exceptionally kind and pleasant to talk with. He helped us with the parking situation and made excellent suggestions on things to do. We would definitely come back again.

Very clean and large rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is on the street but we didn’t have any issues finding spaces. There is a nice area within walking distance with some shops and a market. Quiet area.
