The Forest Lodge

This is a fantastic Pub/Restaurant/Hotel. Rooms were much larger than I expected and the food was delightful, would definitely stay here again.

Quirky pub with lots of different little areas of seating. Nice big car park and small outdoor seating area. Lots to do in the area. Just needs more staff, every time we wanted a drink or to order food we had to go looking for staff. Cooked breakfast was on the small side for portion and quite a long wait both to order and food to arrive. Evening staff were very friendly and bar meals good value. Room was a little noisy from bar below until closing time. Bed was comfy and room well equipped.

Plenty and easy parking. When I entered the bar, I was confronted with Theakstone's on draught, real ale, which is one of my all time favourites (only temporarily available) so I knew that my stay was going to be excellent. Nice food, very friendly staff and nice breakfast. It was my first stay, but hopefully not my last. My routing when travelling in the UK varies, but I hope I can include the Forest Lodge in my future travel plans. It would be worth driving a bit extra to arrive here.

Stayed over on Saturday night with friends. Lovely place within walking distance of Sherwood Forest. Friendly staff, good food in the bar with quick service, comfy bed and excellent breakfast.

Overnight Saturday stay to break long journey. Super evening meal in atmospheric little bar area. You must book, it was packed. Nice small selection of beers. Plenty of easy parking available. Lodge seemed fully booked, nicely renovated, especially breakfast restaurant. Our double room (C2) looked nice, spacious but unfortunately the room overhead was SO noisy, loud snoring through night and very heavy constant walking noises from 6.45 not the quiet Sunday lay-in we desparately needed. Shame, I would stay again but never in that room, as it is also on the road front and you need to keep the blinds closed to stop people looking in .

Stayed for one night. We were welcomed warmly and given directions to our room - if you have mobility issues this probably isn't the place for you as the room was up (and down) stairs due to the age of the building. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Tea/coffee was available. We ate in the restaurant and the food was both plentiful and very tasty and reasonably priced. There was a choice of cooked items for breakfast and again the service was very good. Would stay here again and recommend to others

Really nice people with a lovely bar and restaurant. Found the staff especially the owners very friendly and welcoming.

Excellent location for Sherwood forest, spacious room with super friendly staff. Breakfast was superb nothing was too much trouble. Good size parking lot right outside the hotel, lots of local small independent shops near by

Lovely welcome on arrival the staff were always to hand and looked after all our needs. Tasty breakfast well cooked and plentiful. Comfortable bed and despite being in a room facing the road we weren't disturbed and had an excellent nights sleep. Comfy bar and tasty bar meals.

Room was moldy and dank. Smelled horrible and we left immediately. Highly recommend Sherwood Forest area and Major Oak, but this place should be condemned.

This is really awful. It had musty smelling carpeting which they tried to cover up with terrible strong cleaners. (Think swimming pool chlorine plus moldy rag.) The combination was sickening so I couldn't stay but they wouldn't give even a partial refund. Lesson learned. Patrons beware this is the ultimate tourist trap. I would've rather slept in Sherwood Forest! Sherwood Forest is definitely worth the trip but avoid staying here.

A lady gave us a free bottle of Prosecco to help us celebrate our anniversary. Sitting in the bar having a meal and a drink was one of my highlights on our break. Some of the hotels main procedures cause them a bit of difficulty. For instance asking everyone for photo ID at check in- if this needs to be done it could be done at booking. Also taking £50 on hold from every guest as this often isn’t returned very quickly and I heard many guests complaining about this amongst themselves. I still haven’t received my refund either. Parts of Forest lodge need redecoration, maintenance and love. The indoor areas are not just old but tarnished and in need of redecoration. The biggest problem we encountered was the awful smell as you walk through the lodge and into the annex- the annex smells appallingly of mould. I don’t think that can be healthy. It’s up to an intolerable level. Our room- room number 6- was in the annex and it was quite hard to tolerate that stench. As we walked through on the day of departure and saw all the rooms being cleaned room 6 is probably one of the smallest and less comfy rooms also. It isn’t cheap to stay at forest lodge so their prices need to respect the experience the guest receives. We did enjoy our stay (mention to the lovely dog!) and we would come back, but there is no way we would stay in the annex.

room was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. breakfast in the morning was good and came out at a decent speed as well

Lovely welcome to the property and the staff were informative and friendly. Room was a good size and very clean.

Worn pub and very dated rooms, chinzy cheap decor. Room smelt damp. But comfy bed and clean bathroom.

The room was musty smelling, had an ineffective heater. This meant the room was really cold all night. I wouldn't recommend

Couldnt fault the cleanliness, compact room (C5) not a lot of rooms to get around the bed, shower spotless, ample en-suite, food was great, breakfast freshly cooked. Given the recent price increases across all hotels, good value for money.

This was a family stay and this hotel was very convenient for us all. Although Quirky the rooms were spotless and adequate. The food was also excellent,with a great choice for breakfast and dinner,and all the staff were really friendly.

Please ask about the room you reserve. Room C4 is only for people who want a twin bed in 2 rooms. You must be able to maneuver stairs and a step up shower and toilet in a very small bathroom. The noise level is high due to location outside of commons area and parking lot.

Despite the positives I wouldn’t stay again. Positives - immaculately clean, friendly staff, lots of free on site parking. Hot shower. Negatives - the room was absolutely freezing. I checked in at 7pm and put the electric heater on but it didn’t get remotely comfortable until midnight. Also very noisy. It’s an old building and it sounded like the people in the bar were in my room, I could hear every word of their conversation. Not great at 11.30pm

The room was excellent with a surprising amount of space, clean and all the usual amenities you'd need. It was nice and quiet as it could be considering the adjacent road. Both dinner options in the pub and breakfast in the restaurant on the other side were delicious with plenty of choice. At every stage the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I so wanted to write a glowing review for this place as it was in the exact location we needed. I am from the local area originally and had come down for a family event. We were in room 3 which is right above the bar. When we first arrived we could hear a group of people talking and it sounded like they were actually in our room! We went to have a drink and were told that the bar was closing at 10 so we headed up to the room as had an early start the next day but the music continued until way after midnight. It was so loud I could name every song played (80’s rock classics). Then at 5 am the noise started again, sounding like members of staff arriving and chatting. The next night was much the same, in fact the music seemed to be turned up after 11pm. The room was cheaply decorated, it’s a period building with wonky floors and beams and our windows appeared painted shut. The leather sofa had stains and rips on it and the shower was either boiling or freezing. On a positive note, the breakfast was lovely and the member of staff serving at breakfast times deserves a mention as she was so friendly. This place needs some money putting into it to make it more than just acceptable, it’s a great building in a great location but the noise was terrible and the decor needed sorting.

Loved the quaint old property. Would have given a 5 but the room we had was just so small and couldn't connect to wifi until we agreed to receive emails/promotions.

We stayed in Room 4. Lovely room with a really comfortable big bed. The customer service from checking in until leaving was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were spot on and 5 minutes walk away to Sherwood Forest. Would definitely return.

Unwelcoming front desk, depressing bedroom - my daughter had a single bed in a windowless room - quite unlike photos on the website, claustrophobic bathroom, unpleasant smell to the room's entrance. Hope to never go back.

I stay in many hotels and have never experienced such poor standards Reception took all his time to acknowledge my presence and was really unhelpful Although a late booking heating had not been switched on prior my arrival so was very cold in the room I always check reviews and can only assume these were done by family and friends as the expectations I had were nowhere near met I checked out at 8.30 in the evening as despite my complaints the reception didn’t seem to care whether I stayed or not I cannot beleive that an establishment can treat customers this way In summary RUDE DIRTY COLD UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE DO NOT STAY THERE I would like reimbursed for this if this can be arranged

Nice stay, bed comfy, very helpful staff and owner. Great location Only slight negative is they take a £50 pre authorisation on bank card for room and 2 weeks on it’s still pending on bank balance.

The room was clean, everything needed was provided, shower was good with hot water immediate and continuous. Had evening meal, real value for money, portions were excellect, service was brilliant, all staff so polite, helpful, landlady took an interest, was so kind. Breakfasts were so good, every breakfast meal catered for, the breakfast staff were kind, helpful, friendly. Cereals, yogurts, fruit juice, toast, hot cooked Meal was hot and sufficient-if i was paying for it i would consider it good value for money. Would recommend the hotel and the restaurant meals. Would definitely stay again.

Staff were all lovely. Waiter in the bar and the lady serving breakfast were so welcoming in particular. Quiz night was good fun. Pizzas were excellent.

Great stay. We arrived on the last night of the previous owners and the first night of the new (a two night stay)- both were extremely helpful. Breakfast was great, room 7 was quiet and comfortable, clean. And well equipped. We’ll definitely stay again. Food is good quality and good value and pub is great

What a great spot, right by sherwood forest. Loved the food and the room was nice.

To arrive for early check in and the receptionist didn’t know we’d booked early check in despite ringing days before. Paid and still our room wasn’t ready in time. In the reception there was a Labrador lovely, but spitting up food all on the floor and wasn’t cleared up at all. Food wasn’t great, greasy cold breakfast. Not a place I would return to for the price.

A small, homely hotel near Sherwood Forest. Comfortable rooms, very clean. A great bar with delicious and high-quality dishes and dinner at reasonable prices. A baby cot is provided upon request of very good quality. I was a little upset when the staff discussed political issues with the guests at the breakfast. Several nationalities were called stupid and inadequate, which is generally unacceptable for the service sector. Breakfast could have been better. There is no one at the reception all the time.
