Great little lodge. Rustic but clean and functional. Staff was wonderful. The only reason I didn’t give it a five star all around is that the entrance had a lot of potholes and you need to make a sharp turn into the property.

Front desk staff was very nice. Hotel is dated, but it was very clean and comfortable. We slept in so didn't get a chance to take advantage of the complimentary continental breakfast. There is a small pond for fishing, a nice fire pit with a grill, a small play area with swings and a slide for little children and disk golf and horse shoe. We saw a family of elk on the property the first night which was cool.

Very rustic, but very clean and quiet. The entry driveway needs improvement and signage. Breakfast is skimpy, no meats, only the basics. The steps from the parking lot up to our room 304 are dangerous. Concrete needs repair and need handrails on both sides.

There is no access to a nearby outdoor pool. NO POOL. Traveling with children and they know the next place we're staying has a pool and then that turns out to be a lie. Not ideal. People behind the counter at the hotel had no idea that it said online there was access to a pool and couldn't tell us what that might have been in reference to.

The room was comfortable and cozy with a nice view. Location to RMNP is great. Breakfast was disappointing. The hot tub is really nice but I had to ask for it to be unlocked every single time I wanted to use it which was kind of annoying.

Our room was a bit outdated, but very clean and comfortable. They have a hot tub, pond, gazebo, fire pit and gas grill. Everything was well kept and we were able to do a little fishing! Dawn and dusk were magical. We were able to see elk each morning and night -either on the lodge property or on the golf course next door- and it was amazing hearing the bugling between the males and we also saw some sparring.

beautiful views of mountains and nice open field. We had a two bedroom room, It was simple but nice. This is not a luxury property but very nice for the price. We enjoyed continental breakfasts consisting of yogurt, cereal, muffins, oatmeal, toast , juice, and coffee . It was simple food but kept us full until and early dinner and helped keep to our travel budget. We also utilized the on property hot tube which also had a nice view of a distant mountain.

The lodge has a pretty exterior and a short drive to the National Forest. The room was a good size. The beds were comfortable. Our biggest issue was the dead bugs stuck to the top of the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. I understand they come in quick from outside but clean them up. There were 5 or 6 spiders in the couple of days we were there, and you could hear everything above you,

I am not a harsh reviewer, but I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the room. After we checked in we brought things in and saw that the beds what kind of small. Then after we got settled I went to the sink for the bathroom and noticed that they left a stopping wet rag which appeared to look like it was filled with soap on the bathroom counter. It was underneath the soap dispenser. Not sure if the cleaning people left it there because it was leaking or I just forgot to take it and finish cleaning. So I wanted to get rid of this I went to the ice bucket grab something to put that disgusting rag in and the ice bucket was half filled with water obviously from the previous guests. I was livid so I went to the front office and it was locked up and closed so no one was there. I decided to leave that ice bucket with that disgusting towel just to the right of their front door. After waking up and running to McDonald's for breakfast since I didn't trust what they had, I noticed at the office was open breakfast was being served and no one even took that ice bucket that I left at the front door into the building. We dropped off our keys and left after we were packed. It's really a shame because the property seems like a really cool place with a fire pit, a little fishing pond and ample space to throw or kick a ball around. Very convenient to downtown Estes Park. Hopefully the help improves, place has great potential

We booked this place for our anniversary, expecting something nice and comfortable. It was a huge disappointment. We checked out 30 minutes after checking in! The building is old and the room had a musty, stale smell like it had not been aired out in years. The carpet looked dirty and we would not take our shoes off. The room was small and uncomfortable. The balcony has an odd shape with two cheap plastic chairs. It is not even possible to sit together properly. The TV is tiny and placed in a corner where you cannot even watch it from the bed. We did not use the bed, but there were stains on the pillows. The photos online are very misleading. In reality, the place is dark, dusty, and outdated. Worst of all, this disappointment cost us almost 300 dollars. Way too expensive for a place that feels this cheap. We were looking forward to celebrating something special, and instead we were left frustrated and upset. If you’re planning a romantic stay or any kind of celebration, please do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This place is not worth it.

My room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Towels were exceptionally good. Plenty of hot water all the time, and no shortage of supplies in the bathroom. I have no complaints. I would stay there again.

The room had a strong cigarette smell. We went out and bought some air freshener spray and the office was right above us so we had lots of noise. The property was ok but could us some upgrades. But good location

WARNING: The customer service is unforgivably inadequate. I wanted to avoid leaving a bad review and gave the lodge one month to respond to six separate complaints I filed (two in person, two over the phone, and two over email). This was my last resort but let it speak to their lack of commitment to make things right. We stayed here in late September 2024. The room was adequate, but on our second day, we found a dead, rotting bird under our bed. Upon finding the bird, we disposed of it and kindly asked that the staff clean our room while we were out for the day. When we got back, nothing was touched, no one had cleaned, and we had to sleep with the bugs and smell of decay. At checkout, the front desk told us the manager would contact us to make things right. After one week, I received no response. I placed two calls requesting they follow up, and got false promises saying they were going to call back later that day. In the following month, I emailed twice requesting a follow up. Nothing. This is bad service. No other way to say it. Very disappointed. To the lodge: Again, I was hoping to receive a follow up, after which point I would leave a review highlighting the positive impact that communication had on me. One month is plenty of wiggle room, thought I was being fair.

The rooms were larger than I expected, and were extremely clean. Looks like it’s kept very up-to-date. We also had an issue with Expedia over booking out stay with four rooms instead of two. There was quite a bit of confusion, and they were able to refund The overbooking, which was much appreciated. Would go back to this place in a heartbeat!

The room itself was very nice and clean. But, room 506 had a light right outside the door that attracted hundreds of mosquitos that came into our room from the cracks in the door. Never have I ever stayed at a hotel where bugs crawled through the door. Had to put a bed sheet in the cracks to keep them from coming in. Hotel staff was notified and nothing was done to remedy the situation. Breakfast was mediocre. Not many options.

Nice, basic room. Fridge, microwave, TV (that never worked) clean sheets & towels. Asked for help with TV - communicated via email - got 1 suggestion even though I sent 5 messages. And no one came to help. As a place to stay, it was fine.

Location right outside of town. Not walkable to the down town. Had a second floor room, although the parking was at the front door. Nice outside balcony. Small mini-fridge with no freezer. Microwave (we don’t use) coffee maker with hotel pods (didn’t use). Shower and bathroom worked as they should. Bed (King) placed where it only could and that only allowed enough room for one person to stand at the foot of the bed and the other person could not pass by. On site ice machine. We left before the ‘free breakfast’ so we cannot advise to that. It was the first stop on our trip.

The location is perfect for a quick stay. The rooms were clean but a little dated compared to the pictures... hard to beat for the price. My only compaint was the noise from guest above and next to us. I realize you're going to hear other guests at older places but there appeared to be more than enough vacant rooms to spread guest out instead of putting them all in one section on top and next to each other. Would stay again but would request a room on the 2nd level.

The room we had had paper thin walls and the kid next door kept his TV on until 3 am. He left the next day and our other 2 nights were quiet. The room is adequate and serves it's purpose. The beds are comfortable. The best thing about this location is the elk herd all over the property. It was so amazing and I would stay here again after knowing this. Fantastic location.

The room we had had paper thin walls and the kid next door kept his TV on until 3 am. He left the next day and our other 2 nights were quiet. The room is adequate and serves it's purpose. The beds are comfortable. The best thing about this location is the elk herd all over the property. It was so amazing and I would stay here again after knowing this. Fantastic location.

It’s at the end of town with little to nothing open. Very drab. Not sure why that end of town is deteriorated The hotel is ok and was fine for our 1 night stay. Other reviews made it sound quite nice. I was a bit disappointed. The air conditioner was loud and was a wall unit not central air. The bed was worn, but everything was quite clean. The breakfast the next morning was good. The staff were nice.

Room looks to have been recently refurbished and they did a good job. Bathroom was immaculate. Upper floor room in bldg 4 was advertised as a balcony room, which it is not; it’s a room with two chairs sitting outside the door on the walkway. We did see a bull elk bugling behind the hotel though.

I wouldn’t stay again. Room is tiny, beds are full size. No bedframe support at all. Anytime someone moves in the bed, the entire mattress shakes. Not worth the price.

This was a great little motel with great location. Walkable to Stanley hotel, Safeway grocery store, downtown and a few restaurants for breakfast (trust me). Staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. Note that housekeeping is on request. The lodge was very clean too except for a few spiders in the room but It was indeed a very clean motel. Good amenities too, nice little pond where Elks were bathing, fire pit, kids play area. Fantastic. It was great to see so many elks on the property but they did poop all over so you have to watch out for that. Breakfast was included but it would have been better if they didn’t. Packaged stuff (eggs bread crustables). We didn’t even bother going for it. Just bought stuff from Safeway or eat at a nearby restaurant. Price was super reasonable. One of the best places and location in Estes park.

Terrible check in. Front desk person did not know anything and he was argumentative. He had difficulty finding my reservation. When he finally did, he said it wasn’t ready. He said it’s not check in time. It was only 10 minutes prior to check in. He tried to send us away and told us to come back later. Then a housekeeper came out of the bathroom. They discussed the issue in front of me, in another language. Then turned to me and said room is ready. He was ready to send me away without asking or checking. Other guests shared similar stories.

This place is the worst. We arrived and checked in within the stated virtual check in time. There were no instructions left for us at all. We called, texted and knocked on the office door (because there was an “open” sign”) and nothing. Sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes because their voicemail box was full, hoping they’d come in. Nothing, so we booked a hotel nearby. The next day I went by their office and they said “oh yeah our TV with instructions must’ve been out so we’ll give you a refund…we’ve already refunded Expedia since it was a 3rd party— just reach out to them who’ll confirm with us, and we’ll get you a refund.” We took their word for it and Expedia fell for the same thing we did! Over 72 hours they’ve attempted to confirm that our reservation was canceled, which was unsuccessful. Expedia rejected my refund because they haven’t gotten a hold of the hotel. Unbelievable.

The most positive thing I have to say about this hotel is the staff. They were absolutely wonderful. With that said, the problems that arose were out of their hands. The main thing was our first day on arrival our key did not work. They said the original key had been taken and was going to be mailed back. That’s understandable, things like that happen, but they gave us a key they “made” for the lock.🤔 They said it always happens that it’s hard to get into the room. At this point, we could not get into the room, the staff could not get into the room. they said the owner was aware, but had not changed the lock yet. I couldn’t fathom how the owner knew and still did not take care of it. We said something needs to be done. We cannot sit around the hotel all day because we cannot leave and lock the door. We told them to contact the owner on the phone. they promised they would take care of it. It took all day and buying a brand new lock and it got done. Again, not the staffs fault. Whoever the owner is needs to get on this. These rooms were not cheap and I felt I should have been reimbursed for at least the first day because of all the hassles. On top of it we were guaranteed a 4 o’clock check-in and did not get in until 4:30. Again not the fault of the staff they were wonderful. Because of that late check-in, the cleaning staff had the door open for us so we didn’t know about the broken lock until the next day when we ventured out. Also the AC worked “sometimes” .

We had a great experience! The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable and the younger girl behind the desk was so sweet! Great continental breakfast, beds were comfortable, pillows were comfy and the grill area was fantastic! Loved seeing the Elk in the evenings :-)

When we first arrived, I was very happy! The room was perfect for our family of 4. It looked clean and the person at the front desk was very nice. But then I noticed water was dripping from the ceiling. Again, the front desk was very nice. The man said he’d call maintenance. We left for dinner and came back again. It had gotten worse. The man told us they couldn’t do anything about the leak because it would mean shutting the water off for the whole building. He gave me towels. We went to bed. I woke up to dripping noises. Part of the ceiling had fallen down and water had soaked through the towels, all over the floor and part of the carpet! The manager wasn’t available but I was told someone would get back to me. We ended up packing up and leaving at 8am because I didn’t want to wait for more of the ceiling to fall down. We didn’t have anywhere to go since we hadn’t planned on leaving before checkout. That was SUNDAY. I’ve contacted them TWICE and still the manager hasn’t gotten back to me. It’s now FRIDAY. I tried to be patient and understanding and waited to write my review, hoping I could give a better one for good customer service. But waiting all week for a call is ridiculous. I’m giving 2 stars because the location is great and the view was nice. But I do NOT recommend staying here.

Discovery Lodge is a nice home base for visiting Estes, with a quick drive to the park. It's located near the free trolley, which is worth checking out in advance to better plan your trip. Breakfast could definitely use improvements, and make sure to shop for water at the grocery store (nearby) in case their dispenser is not working. The rooms & beds were clean and comfortable, and view from the back balcony/ windows is beautiful. During the fall, elk are EVERYWHERE! This trip was my 4th time to stay here. There are breweries, shops and restaurants closer into town- a trolley ride, longer walk or short drive. The Stanley was nice, but if you're visiting within two hours of closing they might be shutting down all around you.

We stayed here to do some hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. The rooms were spacious and clean. It is very quiet and you may get a bonus of some bugling elk in the golf course. The Visitor Center is right next to the lodge and it offers free trolley rides around Estes Park and to Rocky Mountain National Park. You also can walk to Estes Park

We had an excellent stay here in all but one respect. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was equally maintained. Beds were comfortable and the staff excellent. The “breakfast” was the one aspect that left a lot to be desired. The waffles were prepackaged lumps of sugary dough that one had to put in the toaster, slim pickings for cereal or fruit. I’d definitely stay here again but go elsewhere for breakfast.

Bed was good, pillows could be better. Breakfast was a couple of boiled eggs, which you had to ask for. Other choices were sparse, such as there being only white bread for toast (no wheat or bagels) and there weren't any pastries. The Discovery Motel was very clean. The breakfast area is a little small with a counter that is very crowded, meaning that there is no room to fix your coffee without blocking access to the toaster and other items. Also, my biggest issue is not just with the Discovery but with most motels is that for a couple or family there should be a couch that two people can sit in that is comfortable, without needing to sit on the bed to watch the TV..

Older property but well-maintained. One mor ing we woke up to a herd of elk walking around the property- so cool! The TV in our room was not hooked up and annoying after being out all day and wanting to just come home and relax. The assigned parking places are stated in the rooms, but not outside of the room so when we got home, somebody had parked in our place. There was no way to let the person know that took the spot that it was reserved for the room. Other than coffee, no beverages were offered for breakfast and it was minimal at best.

We did not end up staying here. The photos are EXTREMELY deceiving of this property. The key to our unit wouldn't even open the door. Once maintenance arrived we were told to use the sliding door instead, which we also struggled to lock. The room smelled musty. The room did not overlook the mountains, it overlooked the kids playground. The first floor king unit was right next to the playground with glass patio doors.

Overall the property was beautiful. However, I booked it months ahead of time and purposely marked it that I would PAY AT PROPERTY like I always do on my stays with hotels.com. Well a couple days before I saw on my bank account that I was already charged. Then when we got there it was still pending, AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME AGAIN. I showed them the bank charge and they said that was just the hold. I said yeah well their “hold” was the money for the stay and now I didn’t have enough to charge the full amount all over it again. The guy that night was very nice and since he could see the charge , let us up to our room. But then we continued to get messages on the app and on the phone that we still needed to come pay even though it was on them for taking the deposit ahead of time when I said I was paying when I got there. They completely ruined our stay with this crap by stressing us out after the initially relaxing day we had had at a festival. After waking up to yet another message, I went down there with money someone else lent to me to pay it . The manager lady didn’t so much as say hi, thank you or anything else. The hold finally dropped off and had they not pulled that crap to begin with it, we never would have had an issue. Although the place was pretty, I’ll never be back and will never recommend. (And the breakfast was as basic as can be. We ate somewhere else!)
