Trails Motel

Three friends and I stayed here for our Mt. Whitney climb. Pretty standard motel, but the rooms and property were clean and well maintained. Bed was firm but comfortable. There is a pool and laundry room onsite which we used and it worked perfectly. About a 20min drive from the Whitney Portal and just a short walk to shops and restaurants in town. The owner/operator was constantly out working and maintaining the rooms and grounds. Seems like they take pride in their work and it shows. We’d all stay here again when visiting Lone Pine.

This was our second stay here this year for just a night to catch some sleep after doing some Milky Way photography in the nearby Alabama Hills. This time there were no parking spots left when we arrived back at the motel around 1:30 am, so we had to park on the street. I got a terrible night of sleep worrying about the car and not being able to get comfortable on the bed. My husband got up at 7:30 am to move the car into a motel parking spot that had become available, and then we both struggled to fall back asleep for another two hours of much needed sleep. Other than that, the room had everything we needed and was clean without an overbearing chemical cleanser smell that we've experienced at other places.

The Trail's Motel was clean and quiet. The front desk was quick and kind plus the laundry was open 24 hours. Good location for catching the bus and close to restaurants.

Nice room for the price. Overall, pretty comfortable. The parking lot is tight and that made it a bit tough to maneuver when we left the property to do some Nightscape photography in the Alabama Hills.

While parking lot, easy to get to. Appreciated laundry service. Purchased laundry soap, etc. on site. Quiet. We played music in the corner and enjoyed meeting our neighbors. No housekeeping, which was ok. Convenient location for everything we wanted to do.

Our favorite little motel Lone Pine! The rooms are clean and quiet. The beds & pillows are comfortable - not too soft or too firm. The pool is convenient on hot days, and the washer/dryer is easily accessible. This is a family owned/managed business and it’s obvious they take a lot of pride in it.

Cheap and clean room close to town. Nice pool. Front desk help was not very friendly. That was the only bummer.

Everything but the half dozen roaches in the bathtub when I woke up was okay.

I can't know for sure but I think we had the last room. The room smelled strange when we first walked in but thought nothing of it. Left for dinner and came back ~an hour later. The smell was nearly unbearable. The smell emanated from the bathroom and smelled like a backed up sewer line. I have a pretty iron stomach and nearly vomited. We slept until ~0300 and left. Hopefully it was just this room but it should be fixed. Everything else was fine with the motel.

There was a cockroach writhing on the bathroom floor.

wifi was hit and miss.

Very uncomfortable bed and pillows. Air conditioner even on low speed was way too powerful and noisy. You get what you pay for.

The hotel look’s mid century but the rooms are updated. Quiet and comfortable. Great walking to downtown. Excellent Chinese food at Margies Merry Go Round, great food at the local bakery. Everyone was very friendly. Close to Owens Lake, Diaz Lake and Alabama Hills. Really enjoyed the area!

Ok motel with limited parking. The problem is the crazy loud A/C. You need it for comfort but it was super loud.

The property has been repainted with new carpet. It is clean and the bed and sheets were comfortable. My only complaint is that the small black out curtains did not keep out the very bright lights in the parking lot. Other than that, I would stay again but bring an eye mask.

This is the typical motel with smaller rooms and not much for amenities. Check-in was easy and our room was clean. The bed was average ... not too hard but did have some lumps. Our room was on the end and near the back which was good for noise. Lone Pine is on Highway 395 and semi-trucks pass through on a regular basis. I did sleep well. We toured the Movie Museum next door and had dinner at a really nice restaurant in the middle of town (Seasons, I think).

Staff was very friendly, and the rooms appear to have been recently refurbished. They were very clean, freshly painted and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bath towels were a little on the small side, but other than that, we had a relaxing stay!

Standard issue roadside strip motel. Small rooms, no views, not too noisy. Good ice machine. Good location on main drag. Comfortable beds.

I had a confirmed reservation, I was told they had no record of it and had no rooms available. We couldn't find anything else in town so we had to drive about 100 miles to find a place for the night.

The manager was extremely nice and helpful!

I think the weirdest aspect of our stay was the person who greeted us when we first arrived. She seemed very disengaged and did not seem like a people person. Very awkward person and really not that friendly. Once in the room everything was fine. This is certainly nothing luxurious, but it was ok. In the morning there was a gentleman who worked there who was very friendly.

Stayed 2 nights.The lady at check-in was unwelcoming, appeared unfriendly. But when we saw her the next day in the parking lot, she smiled and said hello. The Room was on a smaller size, clean but very basic. Towels were very thin, poor quality. Good enough for just get in, sleep, and leave. Would not stay here again.

Our room was cozy and clean. Everyone at check in was helpful and friendly. We look forward to visiting again!

Personnel very unfriendly and unwelcoming, any request (do you have WiFi, ice, extra pillows) elicited a dirty look and grumbles. Limited places to stay in Lone Pine, passed a Best Western on the way into town, wished we’d know that was an option

I really liked this small motel. The room looked great, was clean, and had some upgrades. Check in was easy and staff was helpful and nice. Parking is a little small but still nice.

Property owners and staff were fantastic and friendly. Will stay here again.

Clean and comfortable motel, ideally placed for Whitney Portal and Alabama Hills. Also well positioned when coming from LA to June Lake and Yosemite.

Convenient location, clean, quiet. Good restaurants within walking distance. Bed was comfortable. Next door to the Western Movies Museum which is very interesting.

Great little place to spend the night. Everything in Lone Pine is walkable.

Lone Pine has few accommodations, all are motels. From those, I think this property is the best. Very nice and clean rooms. The rooms look recently remodeled. It is next to McDonald's and the Western Museum. Nice location!

The Trails Motel in Lone Pine, California is a nice little motel for a quick stopover in this small rural California town. Another 1950s or 60s era mom and pop motel, it more than did the job for us for a night in August 2023 after visiting Death Valley National Park on our summer vacation through southern Nevada and California. Lone Pine is a very small town with a population of approximately 2000 and there are only a few motels to choose from. It came down to The Trails Motel on the south end of town and the Mount Whitney Motel on the north end. My wife and I chose The Trails. Overall, a nice stop for us. Classic 1950s/60s architecture always fits my bill. Nice light up Trails Motel sign is good for a photo or two after dark. There is a quiet little relaxing pool out front that served as a nice place to cool off and relax after a long day of driving through the desert. Nice comfortable rooms to boot. Everything was in good working order: air conditioning, bathrooms, cleanliness, comfortable beds, etc. The gentleman who checked us in at the front office was polite and helpful. My only complaint was that I thought it to be a bit overpriced but so were the other choices in Lone Pine. We paid about $150 for one night (including tax). Everything in town, including food and gas, was expensive but I realize this is California, Lone Pine is a small town with limited choices, and it serves as a gateway to and from nearby Death Valley National Park. We would surely stay here again.

Great little motel! I needed something very last minute and managed to snag their last room an hour before arriving in Lone Pine on a Saturday night. The motel is admittedly a bit dated but everything is in very good repair and was very clean! Bed was comfy, fridge & micro in room, water pressure was great and water got nice and hot in the shower, shampoo packets & mini bar soap provided, and easy walking distance to the grocery store, bars/restaurants. The man at the front desk made check in super easy. I was a solo female traveler and felt totally safe and comfortable here.

Air conditioning was very loud indeed , as loud as a roofers blow torch, and intermittent too leading to poor sleep, we turned ours off but the two room adjacent to ours had theirs on. No breakfast and lackluster service from staff.

Nice place to stay on the way to Death Valley. Museum of Western Films next door. Good food nearby.

The Trails Motel is a fine place to stay if you are passing through or climbing Mt.Whitney. Location is great because you can walk to breakfast and dinner options and it is close to the turn for Whitney Portal.

We liked the location. This is our second stay in Lone Pine, first time at Trails. The Grill was an easy two block walk and we really enjoyed dinner there.

Got the last room on a holiday weekend and price was perfect, location was great and attendant was super nice. Def a non frill hotel, one night in the road and close to restaurants and a coffee shop for the morning trip.

Friendly staff, clean room, classic 50s exterior, within walking distance of many dining options in downtown Lone Pine. Right next to Museum of Western Film and Tesla supercharger.
