The Tarbet Hotel

We had two rooms as a family but both were on different sections. The rooms were comfortable. Keep in mind the property is old, and while charming don't expect modern amenities. Lots of stairs, and a somewhat confusing layout with fire doors, but that's the nature of the property. It's cute though if you fancy a stay at a castle like property. It's right across from the loch Lomond and easy to walk along the lake and enjoy. It's also right by the road, if you are a light sleeper might need ear plugs for the peak season.

Stayed three nights and had to pay to park £5 per night. Hot water came on at 6pm Room was cold, rotting windows. No fried eggs at breakfast Great location poor hotel.

We had a lovely short stay! The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, which made all the difference. The hotel is also very dog-friendly — our dog felt just as at home as we did. Would definitely stay again!

I would think most people pick this hotel for it's superb location on the shore of Loch Lomond. It really is a beautiful spot. The hotel itself is a grand old stone building, although a little shabby and run down inside (it really deserves a re-furb). Still it's clean, and the staff are friendly. This is my second visit. The breakfast is excellent (when do you ever get freshly squeezed orange juice in Britain?!) and there is a dual charging point for electric vehicles in the car park. In summary, I'd definitely recommend this place if you don't need five star luxury.

Rooms smell of Dog, Cleaner not working- filthy, Lift not working, door locks not working, restaurant dirty, vacuum cleaner is not working, tables being made up for breakfast on tables which were dirty and not wiped, Tv Not working. Pay £5 for the privilege of parking in the hotel car park, Decoration is v poor and needs a complete re-furb Staff try to be helpful – Food expensive and poor quality, floors of the rooms above creak and single glazed windows overlooking an A road ,difficult to sleep.

Directly opposite the Loch side and Bens. Clean hotel with lovely seating areas, pool table, bar and restaurant. Staff were really friendly. Quite a lot of choice for breakfast. Just watch out for midgies outdoors!

This hotel is in a good location and looks great from the outside but behind the lovely exterior things go downhill. First shock is that you are charged £5 per night to park when you have already paid for the hotel. This is not a city centre hotel where it might be expected and it seems to be a major complaint from other travellers. Checking in was straightfoward and then it's off to the room. The lift was broken (another long standing problem it seems) so then we had to lug big bags up two flights of steps and along corridors (which look like they have not seen a coat of paint for a long time). The room was satisfactory apart from the bathroom door being locked! On the night we were there the hotel had a very loud singer belting out songs in the bar/lounge - so loud it was impossible to find anywhere downstairs to sit for a quiet drink. Breakfast was ok although there's only 1 toast making machine so you have to queue for ages to make your own toast. Given that reviews going back a long time mention the parking and lifts it seems that the hotel owners / manager do not consider that customer comments matter and are willing to let the hotel rack up negative comments. Very disappointing. Would I stay again - no.

Great stay, very welcoming staff. Great location, didn’t have food there but had a drink at the bar and staff were very friendly. Rooms have been recently refurbished, rooms have really nice decor with some chocolate goodies. Best part, it is dog friendly

The rooms were dated, dark, and needed a deep cleaning.

I would like to say good things about our stay here but unfortunately I can’t. The cleanliness of the hotel wasn’t even close to acceptable, as soon as you pass the first door toward your room different smells come to your nose and not all of them were good. Once at the room, the first thing we noticed was how dirty and dusty the carpet was, fortunately we brought our flip-flop with us, I don’t even want to imagine walking around it without them. The last surprise we found was that the shower gel in the bathroom was empty. Special mention for the spiders webs all around the room. The only good thing we can say about the room was that the beds were clean and comfortable.

Staff were lovely and very pleasant. Bathroom was riddled with black mold and base of shower was filthy. Room smelled musty and dank.

Quite frankly, I am disgusted by the extremely low standards for cleanliness in this hotel. Highly disappointed at the high cost paid for an atrocious space. Following initial check in, I asked to be moved to another room from the one provided as it was clearly not cleaned since the previous guests left. Our new room was better, but later noticed it to be very dirty and cold. The room is so cold that there is a space heater next to the bed. The hotel/hotel owners are obviously aware the temperature is an issue for there to be a space heater provided. There is mold growing around the windows and behind the door in the bathroom. Dust on the baseboards and door casings. Dust on the doors themselves. Cobwebs on the the ceiling. The shower was dirty which we did not notice until using it and found pubic hairs from previous guests. Pubic hair on the toilet. Pubic hair on the bedside table. The toilet leaked from the base. I had to place a towel around it to collect the leaking water. There are dust bunnies hanging off of the lamp between the bed and the base of the lamp is caked in dust and rust. There was a used mug with a dirty stir spoon present in the room. The television has only 3 channels and is blurry. The television remote looks like it hasn’t been cleaned. There is garbage behind the sink. The carpet is absolutely filthy. There is no phone. There is an extremely bright blue light on the wall that illuminates intermittently throughout the night disturbing our sleep.

The hotel was in transition from Bespoke to another owner and lots of work will be needed to bring the hotel up to standard, requests on booking were not applied, though the computer booking system was down as a result of the changeover. Staff friendly, location good. Hotel cleanliness poor carpets in need of thorough cleaning, bedding and bathroom good.

Overall, poor standard of accommodation for £140 per night. Cleanliness and maintenance standards were very low. Had to ask for a move of room as couldnt even open the windows in our room. 2nd room was marginally better, st least we could get some fresh air!

The hostess was amazing. We ate in the dining room for desserts and drinks and then had breakfast the next morning. Everything was delicious. Room had an excellent view and was very clean.

Singer every night in the bar was directly below our room. This is a tired hotel that needs a full refit. However, it did the job for 2 nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful

The Tarbet is a fine old building but has started to deteriorate, the room I requested was a Loch view but could barely see the loch for trees. I realise it had been raining but no excuse for the outside walls to be wet! The staff are pleasant and helpful and meals not bad with a good breakfast, just needs updating.

Old hotel, basic rooms. On very busy T junction, so rooms at front very noisy. Avoid room 124 Friendly staff good meals. Nothing around hotel, except loch.

Room was large and pleasant. The food was on the salty side but ok. Breakfast was understaffed but the staff present were lovely, just not enough to keep the buffet supplied well or clean the tables. Think the hotel a solid option for the area and reasonably priced.

The Tarbet hotel was our favorite stay of our 9 day trip to Scotland. The historic building on the shores of loch Lomond was peaceful and serene. The staff was great and even upgraded our room for free which was a real treat. The restaurant and drinks were good as well. The real show stopper is the view of the loch and the location.

Lovely property across the road from the Loch. Our room was very spacious with a view of the Loch. Comfortable bed and nice shower. We had breakfast and dinner and both were nice. Staff were very friendly and happy to help.

When we arrived the kitchen was closed due to limited staff. There seemed to be only one other place to eat in the area. We only stayed one night though, it was fine.

Hi there I was horrible experience. We booked 2 days accommodation with the tarbet hotel Scotland. We went there but sold out our rom and didn’t provide any refund from expedia and hotel as well. We also informed police for that. Hotel shows excuse that we checked in late and they considered it as no show. Then we called expedia they also refuse to refund our money and didn’t provide any accommodation.

The hotel has an amazing location and the building looks stunning. Sadly, it’s quite run down. Rooms look alright, if you don’t look too closely, but in desperate need of an upgrade. Service in the restaurant was really disappointing.

The staff make this hotel what it is. Everyone was helpful, happy and friendly. Big shout out to the receptionist who helped me with sanitary ware from her supply and the breakfast waitress who bought me my coffee outside this morning. What lovely people Restaurant food was lovely too

Arrived after a 9 hour drive to find the hotel had no food service. Totally unacceptable. They have our contact details and could have let us know! Noisy room next to a busy road. Charged extra £5 for parking.

Well situated for tours of the Loch and walks in the surrounding hills.

Good hotel and reception staff excellent. It’s on a busy junction so you do get a bit of road noise.

The hotel is very conveniently situated at a road junction. Check in was easy, room was clean and tidy. Dinner was good, barman was very helpful and knowledgeable about his beers and whiskies. Unfortunately my room was right next to a busy road, which did interrupt sleep a bit. All staff were helpful and friendly. Parking good.

Staff is terrific, as is the restaurant and room. Location can't be beat: a bus stop with the hotel's name, across the street from the pier to take a boat across Loch Lomond to the path to Ben Lomond. Astounding!

A very nice location on Loch Lomond. We took the 90 minute Loch Lomond boat tour from luss pier and it was very enjoyable.

Lovely, classic style hotel with views of Loch Lomond & surrounds. Helpful, pleasant staff, fairly quiet location despite being on main road, and parking available.

Ran out of breakfast an hour before the breakfast room closed. Terrible coffee. Lacking toiletries and hard mattress. Service was friendly and the first floor lounge areas were nice enough. Nice location. Would not stay here again,

Following its recent refurbishment, The Tarbet Hotel blends historic elegance with modern comfort in a stunning location, great for hillwalkers and couples. My only critique is that the dinner service was a bit slow and the menu felt like poor value for money, but we enjoyed the fish pie and chicken schnitzel. Breakfast was exceptional!

Room was very nice and clean.The service in the bar was generally good, although only one member of staff to.provide bar service and waitress service so at busy times considerable delay. All food was served in the bar area. Breakfast menu was ok but dinner was very limited. The menu was available from lunch until 8pm so if you didn' t want chips, burgers etc there was only rissotto or fish pie. Food was also quite expensive. We have used this hotel before but this will be the last time!!
