Samesun Hollywood Hotel & Hostel

I had an amazing stay at Samesun Hollywood! For those looking forward to an affordable, safe and well located place, this is the place! Staff was helpful and very friendly. Although it's a hostel, it's very organized and with rules that manage to work very well. Place was really safe, not loud or messy at all. The room I stayed (4-bunk beds) was also very organized. Bed sheets were clean, floor was clean and privacy was guaranteed with curtains on each bed. There's also a curtain at the bedroom to change clothes if you want. Bathroom was also very clean. Toilets have paper protection on the seats and showers were always available whenever I needed (felt even surprised to see they offered shampoo and body wash). Just missed an hairdryer there. It would be a plus! Common areas were also great. Kitchen was fully equipped; and they offered a small continental breakfast for the early birds, which was great. Large fridge for you to stock your food and drinks - very organized. Location is top - right at Hollywood Boulevard, across Dolby Theater and the Highlands subway station. You can go pretty much everywhere from there. Notice: they don't have elevators (stairs to come up and go with your luggage, but I didn't see a problem on that). I would definitely stay again at Samesun Hollywood and probably at another Samesun property in US or Canada if I have the chance. My only suggestion: it would be nice to have more events and ways to interact with other guests at the hostel.

Straight right in Hollywood! Stayed for a night to go to a nearby concert and the staff was very helpful with answering any questions about the hostel and also provides free ear plugs, definitely needed that for the flight home. There wasn’t any curtains on the beds but I’m fine with that. The lockers in your room are standard school size, wouldn’t fit a suitcase, just small belongings. The bathrooms are great and clean, there was 3 different rooms for getting dressed/doing makeup/hair, then a separate place with multiple toilet stalls, and another place for showers. I loved it so I could just do my hair and not worry about taking up an entire bathroom from someone else. Check out is very simple. Definitely coming back next time I’m visiting this area

I needed a place to sleep for only one night because I was in town to participate in a sports tournament. The location was convenient and close to the venue where I needed to go the next morning. I stayed in a private bedroom. Firstly, I will point out the greatest negative I experienced. As mentioned, I only needed a place to sleep, and I paid more to stay at a place closer to the venue. Around 2:40am, a group of people came in and spoke extremely loudly. I called the front desk asking what their policy was for the common areas, but before I could request anything, the staff member said they would go to take care of the group, which I appreciated. At 6:30am in the morning, I heard a woman having a speaker phone call. I needed to wake up at 7am, so I figured I would take the loss and wake up earlier, because there was no way I would be falling back asleep soon even if I were to call the front desk again. The positives were that their amenities are wonderful and it is a clean hostel. Their kitchen is stocked with utensils and dishes for you to use, as well as refrigerators where you can store your food, and a microwave and toaster. You do need to wash your own dishes. Unfortunately, overall, I will be giving this establishment only one star because I paid more for a place to sleep, and I did not get the sleep I needed. Next year, I will not be returning. I will be paying less to stay at a hotel a bit further away, where I can get a good night of sleep.

Shower , lounge and kitchen areas were pretty neat. Bedding was clean and in room lockers were a plus .my only criticism was the hours in which the lounge was set to close ,12 am felt a little too early for a Saturday night.

Private room and the bathrooms were very nice and clean. Easy to check in and out and staff were nice. Didn't need AC as the weather was cooler so the ceiling fan was very useful. Had to pay for a parking right behind the property. $40 overnight

This place is a gem. Minus the no elevator it was a fab stay. Felt very safe. Security was clearly important. Room was clean and well kept. Breakfast and ability to cook was 1also nice. The Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Def plan to visit again.

It was a great stay besides all of the stairs and conveniently located. Parking prices suck it is $40 for 24 hours.

Perfect location for seeing attractions in Hollywood. The Walk of Stars is right outside the entrance. There is plenty of parking in the Public Parking across the street, $20 per night. The entrance is a door that is locked and only registered guests can enter. Friendly staff, clean room, 2 towels, clean shared bathroom and showers (never a line). Once the room door was closed and the air conditioner on, could not hear a thing, quiet. If you slept with the window open, there would be traffic noise. Over-all, great stay.

The hostel is super conveniently located right across a metro station and just one stop to Universal Studio Park. Everything is perfect, but I wish the website would mention that there are stairs leading up from the entrance to the check in area and then to the rooms, which is a little inconvenient for those with suitcases. The employees are super friendly and would assist with carrying up the suitcases though.

I appreciated the inclusion of a complimentary breakfast at this hostel, it was the first hostel I've stayed in that it was available every morning and not just the first day. My only critique about the breakfast was the lack of food group variety. 2 bagel options were great and variety of oatmeal was great, but with so much grain/bread options it would be nice to have a fresh fruit option such as bananas, orange, apples or even a fruit cup or fruit sauce, maybe even some individually packed cheeses. This was the friendliest and most social hostel I've stayed at. Only hostel where I was quickly surrounded by and included in group conversations if I was sitting in the common areas on my own. I tend to be shy and keep to myself because I don't want to disturb others so it was nice that others took the lead and just made me feel welcome. Being a gender-diverse individual, bathrooms are frequently an issue for me when I'm staying in hostels. There are rarely any ungendered shower and restroom options and the same was the case for this space. I was able to pick a mixed dorm but there was no options for showering and restrooms other than Mens or Womens. I ultimately chose to use the facilities that matched my sex assigned at birth but as I'm fairly androgynous I did still feel that I was looked up and down when using the facilities. Location was conveniently located directly across the street from the metro station.

It was very dirty espically where my bunk was. The lockers are so small. That you cant fit much of your lugagga in there and the staff didnt care about anything and always looked annoyed.

Staff are absoutely amazing here and placed me in best room ever , , such a clean facility

The mattress and pillow was quite dirty with random yellow stains all over. We also had to make our own beds when we arrived - the only good thing about this is the location right on the Hollywood walk of fame

My go to stay when in LA. The best hostel I’ve stayed at to date with excellent staff and clean facilities!

Overall not a bad place to stay for a night or two. Typical hostel stay. Decent breakfast and kitchen/lounge area. My only complaint is that there was no hot water in the morning for my shower. Hopefully that was just something that happened to break during my stay and has been fixed.

The hotel is very clean and the front desk is very helpful/courteous. They offer a complimentary breakfast every day, including fresh coffee. I have stayed there numerous times when I visit los angeles, and I recommend it. No complaints.

First time Hostel stay and it was a great experience. Staff 24hrs and very welcoming. Cleanliness is 10 out of 10! Bathroom clean. Location perfect. No complaints.

Everything is nice, the location has been an advantage and also disadvantage, as the room faced the Hollywood Blvd and right opposite to Hollywood/Highland station, which caused the noise issue at night, people singing and playing music loudly...Overall the hostel is fabulous with the breakfast, great location and helpful staff. I probably came during a busy weekend, just need to be patient to wait for the changing room and bathroom, there're only 4 bathrooms for female guests.

Noisy

the service is super nice, the breakfast, the cleanliness od building...... YET, IF YOU SRE ST TGE LOWER BUNK BED, sorry the height is very low. you hsvr to bend your body once you go in. snd your head may get hurt whenrver you forgot the height and bumps in the scaffold.

This was my first hostel experience. It wasn’t bad at all. My room was pretty basic. A bed, couple light fixtures, a place to sit, and a table with a vanity mirror. I was happy there was an AC and a ceiling fan. I would stay here again on my future visits to Los Angeles, CA.

The hostel is a rare find if you want value for money in terms of accessibility and places to see. Seriously, it is right in the heart of LA. In 4 days, I traveled all the way to Pasadena, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and many more just because public transportation was accessible and I could always find a train back to this hostel. You can not expect a full-fledged 5-star treatment at this price but it certainly offers you a lot if you are traveling light. Downside? The beds really need some refurnishing, they creak a lot even with the slightest movements. One thing I would really appreciate is if they did not charge 7 bucks for that lock/key. That felt like a rip-off. But overall, a good experience I would say. Would recommend.

The pictures do not represent the actual accomodations. The accommodations may be sufficient for younger people but sleeping on the top bunk doesn't work for the over 50 people

The place smelled weird 😅 and the beds were really noisy But the people was really nice

What I like property was how easy to check in and out was how clean it was and very secure, one thing I didn’t like was the bed they just squeak a lot but overall my stay was good

Amazing staff!

Lost my ID on the flight to LA and they wouldn’t let me check in even though I had a picture of my ID so I had to sleep at LAX until my return flight left days later. I also didn’t even get a partial refund and the front desk guy was not friendly at all.

To all solo female travelers, here's my advice to you. Book the all-female dorm as your first choice. But if you can’t get an all-female dorm and one of your roommates harasses you, ask to change rooms. I got harassed in the mixed dorm and when I reported it, I got switched to the female dorm with no extra charge! I would like to thank the people at the front desk for handling the situation so well. Also, the female dorms are quieter than the mixed dorms. There’s a lot of noise from Hollywood Boulevard and you might not need to wear earplugs in the female dorm. I stayed at Samesun for a week and it was a great location for doing all the touristy things. Will definitely consider returning on my next time to LA!

Amazing Staff – Clark is a True Legend! I accidentally left my bag at Samesun Hollywood, and honestly thought it was gone for good. But Clark went above and beyond to help me out! He was incredibly friendly, responsive, and genuinely kind. Not only did he find my bag, but he also made sure it was safely shipped back to me. It’s rare to find people who care this much—Clark made such a stressful situation feel easy and safe. I’m so grateful for his help, and honestly, the whole experience made me love this hostel even more. If you’re looking for a place with awesome people and warm vibes, Samesun Hollywood is it—and Clark is a superstar. Thank you so much again!

I was told I couldn’t stay there cause I didn’t have ‘proof of travel’ which I can’t find anywhere before this placed was booked. I was told by the staff to not use my “Jewish Guilt” on him. Racist and unfriendly staff. Expedia did nothing to rectify the situation that evening. My phone died trying to resolve the problem and I had to sleep in my car. The hostel and Expedia never reached out to make sure this got resolved. After contacting Expedia again…they offered me a refund (for the place I was denied service to) and $25. What a joke of a place to stay and what a joke of the customer service interaction about this incident. Guess that’s where the country is at now. Just can call people Jews and deny service with the cloak of upholding some “policy” which isn’t posted on the Expedia listing. Fail.

Bad costumer service from the fronk desk agent , i checked in and check out few min later bc he gave me a room that i did not booked … so i even stay there and the front desk agent was really gross. I would not recommend this place to anybody.

Even though i had a booking, i was told it was only for international travelers so i was turned away. Hotels.com may be helpful to warn us about this fact. I wasn't aware.

have stayed at this location multiple times over the past few years... have not had one bad thing to say about it.. the staff is always friendly and attentive whenever i needed help with something... the price to stay is more than affordable, and is in a super convenient location when traveling around LA... i will continue to do business with them and book my stays there every time i travel to los angeles! :)

Breakfast can be better by offering a few more items.

Lots of stairs, old building but lots of staff cleaning and service. Begals, oatmeal, and oranges for breakfast. Good location next to Chinese theaters and walk of fame as well as underground metro to all parts of LA.

Nice hotel close to Hollywood, 10 minutes walk. Just wished they had a laundromat at hotel. Free breakfast included was good.
