The staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel was very comfortable with large clean rooms. We were in a dog friendly room as were a lot of the guests. The hotel is handy for walking around Rothesay Main Street.

Recently stayed 2 nights here for work purposes. First issue was finding somewhere to park, it is a big hotel with very little on site parking. Check in was very quick & easy & the staff were brilliant & friendly. The room itself was pretty comfy & warm, bathroom seemed a little outdated however. Never ate in the hotel so cant comment on the food. The hotel is in a brilliant location, 5 minute walk from the centre of town & a nice walk due to the nice weather i had.

Once again a hotel in Scotland that has NO fridge in the room. Come on. Get in the 21st century. Parking was generally atrocious. Tour bus parking in wrong place. Not enough spaces for cars. A few excellent staff members.

Amazing location right from the ferry terminal is about three minutes up on a hill with a beautiful Waterview, historic hotel historic facilities, plaid everywhere we love staying here had a very warm, feeling dining room was open for both breakfast and dinner service which was excellent parking though was a bit of a nightmare.

Requires updating. Shower Matt had mould, the shower tray had mould, the was a leak in the bathroom window and the sill was rotting. One bedroom window had a crack in it. In the stairwell you could see damage in the walls and ceiling from rain. Couldn’t use the front entrance due to damage. Breakfast was good but expensive. Room was cold even with heating on. Towel rail in bathroom didn’t work. Bedding was clean but carpet had stains on.

Lovely large rooms. Clean. Very comfy beds. Only downside heating in room wasn’t working. A need in the winter. Big shout out to the staff each and every one of them polite professional and can’t do enough for you.

Pros - Large hotel with character, comfy bed, good bedsheets & duvet, very warm radiators, friendly check in. Also very cheap for when we booked so pretty happy with the cost. Cons - very worn fittings, carpets, furniture. There were multiple stains on our bedroom carpet, stains on the bedframe. The shower was really old, water wasn’t that warm. Short of fitting a new carpet and new bed there wasn’t really a solution so didn’t complain but the whole place needs some money put into it for sure.

The exterior of the hotel is excellent, beautiful garden with plenty of colour (Sept) with stunning views over the bay shops and places to eat within walking range around 5 mins , the general appearance on entering the building was grandeur, the professionalism from the reception was very pleasant and professional, after given our keys and directions to our room it sadly becomes a bit tired damaged and dirty walls and stairs in corridors stained carpet , the room was pleasant but house keeping could do better in the way of dusting otherwise fine , one detail I find unhygienic is the placement of bath towels etc on the corridor carpet not nice to see , otherwise staff very professional and attentive to your needs time and money spent could make this a beautiful place to stay thanks for the great stay.

Fantastic location, sea view rooms were amazing and really made the stay worth it, we had a large clean room all staff were friendly and considering the price can’t fault anything. We were room only and didn’t try the food at the hotel - this was due to the feedback from locals in the island stating the food was really hit and miss. The smell of the food seemed to linger throughout the lobby/ reception and restaurant and didn’t smell great - think canteen/ hospital food. Would recommend to anyone staying in Bute

We had a one night stay, the staff were lovely and very helpful. The food was very good and the room very nice, the only downside was the bathroom. It was very dated but it was the shower that was the main issue. The head would not stay up it just fell forward and the water ran down the wall nowhere near me. It was impossible to get wet never mind washed. Also the temperature was totally unregulated and veered from freezing to scalding no matter what we tried. It was quite frankly dangerous. This is in Room 301. Really it needs attention.

The bed was very uncomfortable. The sea view double room only had one chair and only one bedside cabinet. It is quite bizarre that one person doesn't have a place to put their phone, glasses or glass of water. The room was big enough for one. The shower was over the bath and the bath had a very high side, which made it very difficult to get in and out of. There was a good selection for breakfast. However, we were told breakfast times were 8:00 - 10:00, which was only true for the weekend and we were late for breakfast on Monday. Thankfully there was food left over otherwise we'd have gone hungry.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food and drink in the bar area were good. The common areas were very roomy and comfortable to hang out in. And no concern with cleanliness. That said, a few things took away from comfort and quality: the WiFi signal was poor, especially in the room; the shower valve was difficult to use; and the shower water temperature was very inconsistent. The interior halls and room areas and fixtures could all use some refurbishment.

Great stay only issue were the flood lights that are used at night are directly facing bedroom windows and even with curtains fully closed still lights up the room, it also prevents enjoying the view in the evening as you can’t see anything as the lights are so powerful.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was great and the view from room 342 was lovely. Breakfast was superb with a large choice suitable for all tastes. Overall the hotel was lovely but in areas it did look a little tired. We would definitely stay again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely old building that seems to be under renovation. Friendly and helpful staff and nice public area. But whilst the bedroom and bed itself are good, the bathrooms are very dated The shower in our room operated off the taps and either ran cold or scolding hot. Dangerous if you have kids.

The entrance into the hotel is let down badly by a dirty worn carpet. We were in room 106, once inside the door you were immediately aware of how cold the room was. None of the windows have any form of insulation to stop the drafts. We went and bought masking tape to try annd stem some of the drafts. The 2 single radiators are not sufficient to heat the room, the ceiling is high, warm air rises and hits the drafys from the sash windows and chills the room. The heated towel rail in the bathroom is way to small to heat a large room. Turning rhe heating off at night makes the room even colder. I appreciate tge heating system is old, i understand the Hitel group only recentlt purchased the Glenthorn but there are lots of memories of tge grand hotel it once was but not a glimpse of tge hotel it will become. The staff were excellent and the breakfast alone was fabulous, by not improving the obvious issues the owners are actually doing a dis service to both the staff, guests and residebrs of Rothsey. This was our first trip to Isle of Bute and i hope not our last, however unless there was evidence if major improvements sadly we would not stay at the Glenthorn again. There is great potential within the hotel and the owners need to look long and hard at their options.

A lovely, Victorian, grand hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. Great staff, food, room and view. A very quiet nights sleep, even though the hotel was busy. We'd definitely return. Thank you to all the staff.

It’s an impressive property but it’s need of updating and repairs. It seems that some updating has been done but it’s still a work in progress. I have mixed feelings about the staff at reception. I dealt with a gentleman at check in and he was very friendly, helpful and clearly understands good customer service. I can’t say the same about his female colleague. She clearly does not like her job and does not understand good customer service. I went to enquire about extending my stay by another night and she cut me off without letting me finish my sentence. I found her to be quite ignorant. It was almost like she was on a power trip. I declined the opportunity to stay an extra night and booked a room in another hotel.

Its a great place and some staff are wonderful but for the second time I was accused wrongly of owing them money on departure (it was paid in advance) by a very agressive and extremely rude and uncooperative mature woman, causing offence and embarrassment in front of other guests.

A very enjoyable stay. All the staff were cheerful and helpful from reception to waiters and waitresses. Very impressed with staff in restaurant checking temperature of cooked breakfast to ensure safe. Never seen that before.

Rothesay was a revelation. We were put off by the ferry access on our upward journey but shouldn't have been. The hotel has wonderful views and is situated within easy walking distance along a promenade of interesting victorian hotels/apartments to a vibrant town centre. we were very lucky with the weather and loved everything about the hotel and the town.

The Glenburn Hotel has outstanding views from the hotel restaurant / lobby area, so I enjoyed it as much as I could since my room looked on to the roof, blocking the view. A little misguided from the outstanding photos on Expedia. The staff were very accommodating and welcoming and I really enjoyed my walks in the lovely area of Rothesay. This coastal town allows you to feel disconnected, without having to be too far from the mainland. I would definitely suggest taking a taxi from the ferry if you have any mobility issues or large pieces of luggage. The hotel is on top of a hill, so could be a challenging climb

Probably the best hotel to stay in on Bute, but the hotel needs a lot of investment to bring it back to its former glory. That said, the bed was very comfy, the breakfast very good and lots of hot water too. The staff work really hard to make the best of it. They have a good chef, and dinner was above expectations.But the view is the best!

We upgraded to a superior sea view room and it was spacious, comfortable and with a spectacular view. The food was so good the first night we ate there the second night too. The venison casserole was excellent. The staff were all friendly and efficient. We would gladly stay again.
