I arrived after dark to find both the property and the estate shrouded in darkness. I had to use my phone flashlight to safely make my way to the front door and inside the lobby. There is no porch light and the front door was unlocked. There are multiple reminders posted near the front doors as well as on the printed instructions to not lock the front door. The reason was that I could lock other guests out. There were no lights on inside the very large house, which as a female traveling alone, was rather unnerving. The bedroom doors lock with a skeleton key. Charming, except for the fact that the front door was to remain unlocked. I pushed furniture up against the door as I was afraid for my safety. The lamp and the nightlight in my bedroom did not work. The body wash container in the shower was empty and its replacement was on the shower floor. There was a lot of hair on the inside of the shower door and the handle to change shower heads fell off into my hand. I chose not to stay the second night as there was a male guest staying at the estate. I did not feel comfortable knowing I was alone with a stranger with only a skeleton key lock between myself and them.

Exterior needs SERIOUS work. Interior is very "antiqueeeee". Breakfast was very good. A glass of wine in the evening was a nice touch. Owner was very friendly and informative.

The four-bedroom house was well appointed; the kitchen is huge. Get the Honeymoon suite if you can it's immense! The c.1880s decorations in the B&B are impressive. The broad back deck is very large. Access was easy and convenient. Laundry on the first level. James' breakfasts are to die for, especially the hot biscuits and sausage gravy. James grew up here and knows all to be known. It's within a mile of downtown Damascus and across the street from a supermarket. Very convenient in all ways. Hiking trails, including the AT and Virginia Creeper are next door as is a cross country biking route. I was here for the AT's annual Trail Days celebration.

Delicious large breakfast made by friendly and welcoming owners, served family style. Eclectic furniture and antiques initiated good conversation and interesting stories. The Honeymoon Suite was large and the bed was very comfortable. The en-suite was nice and clean but it’s important to note there is no shower. You can use the shower downstairs or use the included bath. Not a big deal unless you want to wash your hair. The grounds could be lovely but are somewhat dilapidated and very much need attention. A nice stay overall.

I had a beautiful stay at the Millsap-Baker Estate B&B. When I arrived, there was a note telling me to how to find my bedroom. It also told me about snacks and drinks that were available, as well as the time for breakfast in the morning. There was the phone number for the owners for any needs. The covered porch was a very peaceful place to rock I. The rocking chair and watch the birds. I sat and read my book for quite a while. Every room is decorated with amazing antique furniture! The bed was super comfortable! The shower had great water pressure. There were 3 other couples there at the time but I had no idea until the next morning, because it was so quiet. The home is located very close to the beautiful town of Damascus and the Virginia creeper trail so there are many activities if you like to hike the AT, bike the creeper trail or fish in the creek. I hope to come back again and bring my family!

The outside of the property was absolutely gorgeous, as well as the inside. Everything was very clean and organized. If you have any questions about the beautiful and unique furniture, James will happily tell you about them! The food was wonderful, and the rooms were amazing. James and Connie were so kind and generous. Would absolutely recommend this stay :)

We spent the night at the Millsap-Baker Estate on Thursday, 12/21. As we were the only guests for the evening, James upgraded us to the larger Honeymoon Suite. The room was very nice, with interesting antiques. It was a quiet night and our bed very comfortable. The home is well kept with beautiful antiques and architecture. We had engaging conversation with our host James during breakfast. I highly recommend the Millsap-Baker Estate for your next stay in Damascus.

I enjoyed my stay at the Millsap Baker Estate. The room and bath were very clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful. I learned alot about the history of the estate and Damascus from the owners.

As a first time bnb guest, I loved it. James and Connie were very welcoming and made for great conversation during breakfast with the other guests. So much history in the house and area. We spent most of our time in Abingdon - antiquing, dining, and the barter theater. Apparently there's much to discover in Damascus for next time though! We valued the private bathroom in the honeymoon suite, but FYI does not have a shower just a tub, but there was a public shower down the hall. Thanks guys for a great time!

This was such a lovely B and B. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable with a nice Roku TV. You will share a bathroom. The home is so interesting and filled with gorgeous antiques. The owner was super friendly and made a great breakfast.

As a first time bnb guest, I loved it. James and Connie were very welcoming and made for great conversation during breakfast with the other guests. So much history in the house and area. We spent most of our time in Abingdon - antiquing, dining, and the barter theater. Apparently there's much to discover in Damascus for next time though! We valued the private bathroom in the honeymoon suite, but FYI does not have a shower just a tub, but there was a public shower down the hall. Thanks guys for a great time!

We never saw anyone working there or the owners just got a note on the door at check in . Then no breakfast not even a way to get a cup of coffee because the cook was sick. Just saw a note on the door saying he was sick and to get some fruit. Only fruit was really bad old bananas. No adjustment in rate just a note put up on the cabinet saying no coffee or breakfast. Maybe nobody works there. Stayed downtown the next night and everything was close, cleaner and we met the owners and had a lovely morning walking around town….with a nice breakfast and coffee….much better.

We loved the kind and courteous owners. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The food was excellent. Very sweet and happy owners. We will definitely stay here again.

This an unbelievably beautiful place hidden away in a small town about 20 miles from Bristol, Virginia. I will never again stay in one of those boring noisy highway motels. I arrived late but the owner still told me where to find the homemade cookies in the dining room.

I enjoyed my stay at the Millsap Baker Estate. The room and bath were very clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful. I learned alot about the history of the estate and Damascus from the owners.

First, the pictures do NOT do it justice, it is absolutely beautiful. James prepared breakfast for me and can tell You stories about every piece of furniture in the home. I could sit and listen to him talk all day. It’s a little off the beaten path but so lovely. The room was gorgeous, it was quiet and so peaceful. I was there for a funeral, so i appreciated that so much. I will stay there again should I need to return to the area.

I had a beautiful stay at the Millsap-Baker Estate B&B. When I arrived, there was a note telling me to how to find my bedroom. It also told me about snacks and drinks that were available, as well as the time for breakfast in the morning. There was the phone number for the owners for any needs. The covered porch was a very peaceful place to rock I. The rocking chair and watch the birds. I sat and read my book for quite a while. Every room is decorated with amazing antique furniture! The bed was super comfortable! The shower had great water pressure. There were 3 other couples there at the time but I had no idea until the next morning, because it was so quiet. The home is located very close to the beautiful town of Damascus and the Virginia creeper trail so there are many activities if you like to hike the AT, bike the creeper trail or fish in the creek. I hope to come back again and bring my family!

The outside of the property was absolutely gorgeous, as well as the inside. Everything was very clean and organized. If you have any questions about the beautiful and unique furniture, James will happily tell you about them! The food was wonderful, and the rooms were amazing. James and Connie were so kind and generous. Would absolutely recommend this stay :)

Delicious large breakfast made by friendly and welcoming owners, served family style. Eclectic furniture and antiques initiated good conversation and interesting stories. The Honeymoon Suite was large and the bed was very comfortable. The en-suite was nice and clean but it’s important to note there is no shower. You can use the shower downstairs or use the included bath. Not a big deal unless you want to wash your hair. The grounds could be lovely but are somewhat dilapidated and very much need attention. A nice stay overall.

Millsap-Baker house is a great old house. Never judge a book by its cover - the exterior is showing signs of its age and needs some repairs, cleaning and refurbishing. The interior on the other hand, is tastefully and formally decorated with antiques, with plenty of interesting things to look at. Bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are fully up to today's standards; very clean, with comfortable beds and reliably hot water in the shower. A true bed and breakfast - the host made breakfast for us and provided interesting conversation. I would have appreciated an option for earlier seating times for those of us who like to get out and about early. As advertised there was ample free wine and non-alcoholic beverages, but the free pastries and fruit were past their prime.

Great breakfast and inside of House a working Museum with so many working antiques and antique furniture. Owners are friendly and interesting. A little sad that the yard and deck could use some love.

I arrived after dark to find both the property and the estate shrouded in darkness. I had to use my phone flashlight to safely make my way to the front door and inside the lobby. There is no porch light and the front door was unlocked. There are multiple reminders posted near the front doors as well as on the printed instructions to not lock the front door. The reason was that I could lock other guests out. There were no lights on inside the very large house, which as a female traveling alone, was rather unnerving. The bedroom doors lock with a skeleton key. Charming, except for the fact that the front door was to remain unlocked. I pushed furniture up against the door as I was afraid for my safety. The lamp and the nightlight in my bedroom did not work. The body wash container in the shower was empty and its replacement was on the shower floor. There was a lot of hair on the inside of the shower door and the handle to change shower heads fell off into my hand. I chose not to stay the second night as there was a male guest staying at the estate. I did not feel comfortable knowing I was alone with a stranger with only a skeleton key lock between myself and them.

The entire place was clean and comfortable. The house was everything we have come to expect from a historic small town B&B. We had a great nights sleep, an excellent breakfast and a long and informative conversation with our host. In world that has fewer and fewer traditional Bed & Breakfast Inns, it was great to find one that was just where we needed it for our travels.
