Hostal La Mexicana

The Hostal is centrally situated, across the street from the city Hall. The reception is at the 3rd floor, rooms from 3rd to 5th. It is outdated, the furniture and the floor în the room, the tiles in the bathroom are old and in obvious sufferance; the shower in 503 is leaking. The common spaces received a face lift, so the first impression is positive (before entering the room). It is overpriced, I payed 90 euros for one night (17/18 sept), including breakfast; maybe because of the film festival running these days (?). Anyway, what made me furious happened next day, în the morning, at breakfast, when I noticed that ALL THE MUFFINS WERE 2 WEEKS EXPIRED . The breakfast was very poor and badly served ( slow, waiting minutes for a new small plate of cheese or ham or yoghurt, because the person who serves was handling also the reception and preparing a buffet breakfast is not one of his talents), the tea/ coffee cups are white outside and beige inside, but...it's a Hostal, not a hotel. All the other tourists were seniors, needing glasses to read anything, so the staff member was surprised to be asked " what is this"? And he answered " this is a muffin"! Understanding that a better answer is expected, he said " it's a mistake". Maybe the guy just arranged on the table what another one prepared, but serving EXPIRED food is inacceptabie, no matter what! It's no mistake, this is the "Modus operandi" of this Hostal. Stat away from this fraud!

El ascensor no funciono correctamente durante toda la estancia, lo que fue un gran inconveniente. En general, el estado del hostal no se corresponde con lo que esperábamos al reservar después de ver las fotografías de las habitaciones.

Stayed here for one night after walking a section of the Camino from Leon to O'Cebreiro. Very Central location in Santander. Close to bus station, shops & 25 mins walk to beach. Very friendly helpful staff. Clean ensuite rooms. Breakfast available if wanted. Lift from ground floor. Hostal reception on third floor. Would definitely stay again if in Santander.

Basic, but excellent value for a short city centre stay. Superb position around 8 minute walk to bus station. Bars and restaurants in close proximity. Tip, use the lift. Reception is on 3 floor but it is actually 5th floor! Breakfast is minimal self service. My only real gripe, and it's a minor one, was that there was no shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. As I was only travelling light it would hace been a nice to have.

The hostel was in the middle of the downtown shopping area. On Sunday there were very few places open where to eat. The weekend I was there was cold and rainy therefore I only had an orange in my room for dinner. Places to eat were not close and I didn't want to walk at night in the area as there were very few people around. The hotel didn't have any heat. The deskclerk told me the cold front had been unexpected and therefore no heat. The room itself was fine otherwise with a private bathroom, closet and TV.

Esta bien limpio y la habitación amplia y,está céntrico,lo malo es q no hay donde aparcar el coche ni para dejar la maleta ,eso es lo q tiene estar en el centro ,

I was looking for a cheap one night stay and this was ok for that purpose. The Reception level appears to have been renovated with a pleasant common room. My room was much older with a small but adequate bathroom. Very good value for a short stay

Enkelt og billig hotell i 5. etasje. Litt vanskelig å finne. Godt skiltet, men tok litt tid før jeg forstod at resepsjonen lå o 5. etasje.Meget hyggelig betjening.

Hôtel bien placé en ville mais pas de place pour notre moto. Équipement de la chambre vieillissant literie hs , pas de Clim, et porte de la salle de bain/toilettes qui ne ferme pas. Petit déjeuner correct.

Great reception workers. The room was not perfectly clean when I arrived, but was at a reasonable level of cleanliness. The location is amazing!

Tienen que cambiar los colchones. Tienen que aislar acústicamente las habitaciones.

Great location, good staff. It was a bit noisy at night, and the bed was not the most comfortable, and the shower went from hot to cold, and back again. But it was reasonable for the cost.

En general muy bien ubicado, él encargado de la recepción de noche muy amable y atento, la camarista de igual manera, pero la chica de la recepción por la mañana tiene él don de convertir una buena experiencia en una muy desagradable. Llegué a las 3 am por trabajo y estando por salir de una manera muy prepotente, grosera y sin la más minima empatiá a las 12.05 tocó la puerta a golpes, no pidiéndome que me retirara sino diciendome de muy malas formas ( podrán checar las cámaras). qué el "check out" era a las 12, salí a las 12.08 eso es cierto, bastante molesto entregué la tarjeta y supongo dandose cuenta del error cometido trató de minimizarlo y que pasara desapercibida su grosería. Hay maneras de pedir las cosas, yo no tengo porque pasar una mañana de malas apurado y pasar un muy mal sabor de boca porqué literalemente esta chica amaneció enojada con mucho trabajo o no literalmente me corrió. En la forma está el fondo! Una pena como Mexicano, elegí él lugar para unas horas pues pensando en apoyar a una connacional, en lo personal no regresaría, mi destino era Bilbao, quise detenerme para ver a mi hijo universitario y pasar la mañana con él y nada hay peor que te arruienen la mañana.

Great value for money. Really nice fellow at reception, waiting for my late arrival in the evening. It's an old building, some areas of the room show that, but bathroom really clean and updated. Other areas are more modernised. Quiet, my room looked to the street, but no noise. I had a great night sleep. When I need to spend a night in Santander, no doubt, I will book it again.

First thing to say a 'Hostal' in Spain isn't the same as a 'Hostel' in the rest of the world it just means a budget or good value hotel not bunk beds and shared toilets! Anyway the place was really nice with a clean tidy bedroom and it's own bathroom. The staff were also very helpful.

The staff were amazing and very welcoming and I lovely one night stay and seeing Santander in all it beauty.

Værelset var ok til en overnatning. Vi havde en god seng og kunne komme i bad. Fik god hjælp til at finde et spisested.

Clean , inviting , comfortable and in a great location, close to everything, shopping, pharmacies , groceries, bars , cafes, restaurants and ocean, all within a five to ten minutes walk. Terrific value.
