Candlewood Suites New Braunfels by IHG

My teenage daughter and I stayed here as a halfway point to visit the University of Texas San Antonio. The hotel is near several others that are similar and off a frontage road. The staff was excellent. Breakfast was just fine. The only gripe is that the elevator is sort of down a hallway about 10 feet deep and it's very hard to get luggage in and out. My daughter who is a luggage champ found herself griping. It certainly was not a deal breaker and we'd stay again no problem.

Everything was great except for the skeaky old beds in our room. One bed had a brown stain on the flat sheet. Staff was fantastic. Very nice and professional. The only other thing we did not agree with was it being soundproof rooms. They are not. Typical hotel loud noises. Clean and the kitchen is awesome but they do not have a pool. We would stay again!!

Limited staff due to holiday season. No problem, but the people at the front desk either dudnt know anything and coildnt help because they were temp workers or they acted put out if you let them know they were out of coffee. There isnt any ice available on site, but your refridgerator makes ice if it works. Our's did not. We reserved a king bed room for our daughter and fiance. They were given a single queen. Wont be back

Good rate for a multi night stay. Staff was good, room is okay, but in need of a new mattress and some minor repairs. Value was okay, but noisy in room above and road noise from I-35 is definitely there. Overall not disappointed due to price. Laundry had 1 broken washer but is no charge. Workout room was good.

Only thing I didn’t like was that it doesn’t have a pool. Other than that it was great. I was so happy with the rooms having a kitchenette. The price was really good

Overall hotel was in a great location. It was minutes away from everything that my family planned to do. A few things I didn’t like about the hotel… No pool only a patio/grill area…. No breakfast only a snack area where you can purchase snacks drinks etc. Also no housekeeping on a daily basis. If you need more towels make sure you bring your dirty towels down to the front desk, that’s the only way you will get clean ones and if you think you can just get towels without exchanging your dirty ones, you can’t. Beds were comfy, water pressure was good and water was very hot. Room was clean and everything we needed for the kitchenette was there. Also No ice machine but it’s an ice maker in the refrigerator.

The water for the entire property was turned off from 2am to 4am. We were not able to use the restroom or sink. This is unacceptable. It should have been disclosed when booking the room. I would have never stayed here and would have stayed somewhere else that had running water. I have never been to a hotel that turned the water off. It is absolutely absurd to not be able to flush a toilet or use the sink or shower in a hotel when you choose. No ice machine and the refrigerator never made ice.

This property is not good at all. #1 There are roaches in this hotel, you can’t leave any food out because they will get in them and you may see them napping on your bed with you. #2 The beds are horrible, they have to be 15-20 years old because of all the noise it makes getting in or out of it. If you wake up during the night, be prepared of waking everybody in the room up because that’s how noisy it was. #3 No swimming pool, they actually filled in the area where the pool should have been and changed it to seating area. #4 No breakfast in the morning. Everyone I saw checking in asked the same question, what time does breakfast start?, just to hear we don’t offer continental breakfast. #5 if someone is in a room above you, you will hear every footstep and running sound they make. So try to get on the 3rd floor if you want to risk staying here. And lastly, I went down stairs to ask for towels and the front desk person told me I would have to bring down all my old towels because they don’t have enough for the whole hotel. Yep you heard me right. But what he didn’t realize was that I was in the lobby earlier when another woman came down who was white ( I am a minority) and ask for 8 towels, he ran to get them out of the back with no questions.

The room was extremely clean. Check in and out was fast and desk clerks were both very nice.

Rundown. Overwhelming air freshener smell in the lobby, and musty smell in the room. Dirty bathroom floor and baseboards. Could clearly hear conversations in next room.

Upon arriving into our room, I was completely shocked to walk into the room I booked. Upon deciding to book, I was glad to see the studio suite pictured on the website. Carpet, desk and couch. However, the room that we were given did not resemble what I thought I paid for. There was no carpet, and no couch. I immediately went to the male front desk attendant and spoke with him. As I was explaining my issues, he laughed and said " Yes, the pictures are deceiving and some times are pictures of other properties." Being that I came with my wife, my 9yr old and 1yr old daughters, we were looking forward to utilizing the couch for one child to sleep on after our drive from Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday. Being that was now impossible, the attendant moved our rooms to a double bed room. Although that helped with my family a little, the floors of the new room were filthy. Our bare feet were dirty upon walking on them with the first 30 minutes. The refrigerator was covered with dust, the pillow cases were stained and the fire alarm constantly displayed its flashing red light. Again, even though the male front desk attendant tried to accommodate my family, it was very unprofessional and frustrating for him to laugh and confirm the fact that I was mislead into believing that I was receiving a certain hotel room, but instead I fell a victim to false advertising. As an IHG member, I expected what I paid for. Please update pictures of your rooms so travelers know what to expect.

Did not have extra lock on the door the safety lock. Was not very clean did see a few bugs. My feet ended up being filthy from walking on the floor in bare feet. The bed was very squeaky and old.

The only issue we had were ants. They streamed out from the electrical socket on the prep counter next to the sink. Besides that minor inconvenience, the stay was great. We will return.

Check in was good however, they confirmed I was staying two nights then were calling my phone the next day telling me I was supposed to be checked out. Room reeked of mildew, the cabinets in the kitchen area were falling apart. The channels on the TV were all mislabeled so you didn't know what channel you were on. We found cockroaches in the kitchen and bathroom. It was very loud in the hallway, you could hear if anyone closed the door to their room.

The bed made a lot of noise when sat on and whiling sleeping, if you turn from one side to the other. Sheets also had stains and the room felt like it was put together quickly

The bed sheet was torn, and the bathroom countertop was dirty with soap, clearly not having been cleaned. The shower faucet alternated between very hot and very cold. The room I received looked nothing like the one in the booking photo, particularly in terms of the furniture. For $129 per night, I do not recommend this place.

I learned that longer stays receive a better rate. It was very good. The room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel is under renovation and most of the rooms do not have a desk or a table. I ended up buying a small, inexpensive folding table at a local Walmart.

The 1 bwsroom suite was clean, spacious and was outfitted with amenities to make my stay welcoming. Tasha, the front desk agent, was welcoming, friendly and professional.

Room looks older than the pictures on the site

This hotel cost more than the others in the area so I was expecting something decent. Unfortunately this resembled a motel 6. I will say that the front desk lady was amazing and so nice. The room was muggy and had a weird smell. The bathroom was beat to hell. The bed was hard. There was only 1 plug near the bed. Had loud people around. It was just really banged up and kinda nasty. I wouldn't recommend this place. Especially for what they are charging. Very disappointed.

Air conditioner froze up during the night, which made the room hot even though it was cold outside. Coffee pot was missing from the machine, I had to get creative to get the coffee out. Bed was rock hard and lumpy felt like sleeping on rocks.

Nice big clean room and the check-in lady was very friendly and helpful. Room was big and clean. Had a double bed kitchenette and it was perfect for our 2 day stay.

Front desk staff, Nesha and another young woman, were so friendly, helpful and professional. Room was clean and fine. Would return simply because of the staff.

Checked and found a room in need of updating. Missing shower curtain and requested one. After two hours I went to front desk only to be given one to put up myself. Once it was up, discovered it was torn.

Staff was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. Enjoyed our stay.

Easy access to 35, decent sized room. It was not very clean, they didnt have ice, there was a roach in our room. Bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly. I don't think I will be back.

I like that it was near a lot of food options. Near the highway. Quiet property. Staff was awesome. Biggest complaint was that there wasn’t a shower hook near the shower. I’d definitely stay there again!

Decent room. There was a smell and the ice machine didn't work but yes I would stay again. Perfect location for Gruene.

I enjoyed the comfortable beds and convenient location. The staff was also very nice. The TV worked fine except for using the channel guide to see what is showing on all channels. The shower temperature was good but the pressure wasn’t so great.

The hotel was in a good location with easy access. The grounds / parking area needed to be picked up and cleaned for liter and debris. Our only complaint about our room was there weren’t enough towel hangers or racks in the bathroom. Thankfully that’s a small item but it would help when you’re attempting to reuse a towel or hand towel.

This is not a high-end property, but what it does, it does well. Love the kitchen in each room, great for breakfast. Very clean and spacious. Downsides are: no restaurant and freeway noise. But I knew that going in, and the price is good. Highly recommended if you need a clean, spacious room with a kitchen and you don't mind the freeway noise. We didn't bring our doggie, but they are allowed, which is a big deal for anyone traveling with their favorite beast!

Great place to stay, close to EVERYTHING, clean, bed was comfortable, pillows (eh), tv was a bit of work with no instructions but what will keep us coming back is the front desk woman who was the best! We would definitely stay again for the comfort, cleanliness, great front desk woman and the free coffee!

Terrible!! Room and linens smelled like smoke. Barking dogs. No breakfast available, not even coffee one morning. Ice maker in refrigerator didn't work and no ice machines on floors.

Staff unfriendly, no breakfast, needs updating. probably will not stay here again, not worth price I paid.
