Studio 9 Hotel Catalina

All staff were extremely warm and welcoming. The rooms could use some updating and maintenance. Windows do not lock. The hot tub and grill were out of service. They had a pancake maker along with oatmeal, granola bars, and coffee for breakfast which was lovely. The hotel is within walking distance of most things.

A low price facility in an extremely expensive location. There are no glasses or cups available. There is a microwave near the lobby. So if you want coffee or tea in the morning, bring your cup and your supplies.

Be mindful there is no elevator and you might get a room on the third floor. Our room did not have a closet to hang clothes, but there were plenty of drawers. There is a nice balcony/porch to sit out on at each level.

Very charming property and not on the strip. Easy to get to and we could leave our luggage after checkout without a problem.

No air conditioning. Hotel was super clean but they have a jacuzzi outside that’s boarded up. Women was mean on phone but the guy was nice. Decent place to stay, good price for busy summer season.

First time to Avalon. Loved this Victorian era hotel. Kept up very nicely. I had a 3rd floor room with a harbor view. Clawfoot tub but you can only use the shower function. No A/C, but there is a cieling fan, and the temperature was perfect outside, so keepi g the windows open was enough. It is on the opposite side of the harbor from where the dock is, and up a steep hill for a bit. Not a bad walk thought, but not ideal for an older person or handicap. Also no elevator. But for anyone else, it’s very clean and charming and has reproductions of old images of Catalina around and the staff is very helpful and welcoming. Check out is 11am, but if your boat leaves later, they will let you store your luggage in the lobby. Would definitely stay there again!

This is an older building, but clean and welcoming. I loved the multiple outdoor patio/balcony areas. Also, the massage chair in the lobby hit the spot. I do wish the hot tub would have been open.

Older property. Vintage like we are. Hotel not modern or perfect but wonderful community porches. Hotel has character and charm. Must be able to do stairs for upper floors—no elevator. Wonderful view of harbor from upper floor. Convenient to restaurants and beach. Short walk up hill from Main Street.

The location was perfect. The hotel itself was very outdated. Our ceiling fan and light kept turning on and off throughout the night on their own. The hot tub was covered up by plywood. The vending machine outside our door only accepted $1 bills, which was inconvenient considering the drinks cost $3.50. Staff were nice and friendly. For almost $500 for two nights, you could find something a little nicer.

This is an older property there is no house keeping or room service. The room was kind of odd very small. Catalina is a small island so everything is in walking distance. The microwave was broken. And there’s only one. The staff was very hospitable and I wanna say it was the best part of the stay

Not adequate amount of all toiletries. Hair in the shower. Carpet dirty. Kids running and yelling in the halls. Chilly room.

The hotel was just perfect. We wanted to stay in Catalina but didn't have unlimited funds. The rooms were very clean. Beds were comfortable and the pillows were amazing! The bathroom is very small but you only need for a couple reasons. There are 3 floors and we stayed on the 3rd. Carrying suitcases was a little difficult but that was worth it to be on the top floor. Great view and front desk was very nice. Definitely would bring my family and stay here again.

The hotel was clean, bright, comfortable, and conveniently located within 2-8 minutes walk to the beach, shopping, and food. The property seems quite old and has some quirks, but it is clean, quiet, and well maintained, with gorgeous smelling star jasmine bushes and succulents just outside the front porch, windows with stained glass over the stairs, and an open air porch on each upper floor with wicker chairs and a view of Avalon harbor. Each room was sunny, fresh and clean, and included blackout curtains, a dresser, a TV with a Roku remote, and a mini fridge. I like old buildings, so I found it charming, but like I said, it had some quirks. These included: odd vent shafts in the walls, sinks/vanities sometimes outside of the bathrooms, no AC, no elevator, and windows that didn't seem to be able to lock shut. I was originally situated in a ground level room. It and the bedsheets seemed very clean, but I found pretzel crumbs in the bed between the sheets. I had been in transit for 15 hours and was exhausted, so I napped on top of the blankets and asked for a clean set of sheets an hour or so later when I was semi coherent, just to play it safe. The front desk staff seemed pretty annoyed and didn't smile or greet me after that day, but ultimately they transferred me to an unoccupied room on the third floor. That room had a beautiful view of the homes climbing up the hills and the harbor and was blessedly crumb free. Staff grumpiness notwithstanding, I enjoyed my stay there.

This was an interesting stay. I called the morning of to confirm I could drop off my luggage early—no one mentioned the front desk closes at 7 PM and that I'd need to call an emergency number afterward. Luckily, someone was working late when I arrived. I had to carry my luggage up to the third floor, which wasn’t easy with a bad back. The room was okay, but one window screen was broken and the window didn’t close all the way. The carpet felt rough and dirty—thankfully I always bring flip-flops. The TV remote didn’t control the volume, so I had to adjust it manually. Also, when guests log into streaming accounts, they're not logged out—I ended up watching HBO Max on someone else’s account. The toilet didn’t flush properly and still didn’t work the next day. On my way out, I requested a repair and an ironing board (there was only an iron). Later that evening, I came back to find bugs all over the bathroom floor, carpet, and in my luggage. I called the emergency line again, and someone came to vacuum. Turns out they were coming through the broken screen. I closed the windows and stuffed the broken one with a towel. The shower had stray hairs, which were long straight & brown, very different from my short curly hair. I had to use my hands to rinse the walls. Flip-flops saved me again. Staff was nice, but I won’t stay here again. I’ll pay more for a cleaner, more functional room. The owners really need to update the property—starting with the carpet.

The hotel looks like it was flooded and then left to dry out, the carpets were so disgusting, I used towels to walk on them. Great location though

Sadly, there was no coffee in the room or even in the hotel! That's almost a deal breaker. Also, no fan in the bathroom which sucks but is kind of common in hotels. The staff were all very good. The view was excellent - right out to the harbor! It's also only a half block from the main strip/beach so you can't get any more convenient! The value was really good so if you are trying to stay on a budget, this is a fantastic option.

The room was very nice and clean. The internet was a bit slow and the TV was somewhat outdated, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

Definitely on the much older side of a hotel, horrible people upstairs just stomping which made sleep miserable and even sleeping in late because of the stomping

Super cute property with a great ocean view, walking distance to all of the bars and restaurants in the area. The staff was super welcoming and warm. The only downside was the pillows weren’t the best

Wonderful hotel, built back in 1892 so that it's rooted in history. Steps away from the harbor, half a block up a steep side street that's far quieter than those running parallel to it and closer to the all the cafes, bars, and souvenir shops. Don't expect luxury, there's not even an elevator. We had a third-floor room with a view of the ocean, with two reading chairs to enjoy that view and a very comfortable bed. Ample bathroom & all very clean & tidy. At the end of the corridor, a wide porch with lounge chairs & sunlight. Staff exceptionally nice. We will stay there again next time we have the enormous pleasure of visiting this enchanted island.

We stayed in the premium king bed. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom very small. No AC so kept windows and fan on at night. Because of this you get a lot of street noise but quiets down by midnight. The veranda was right outside our room so that is nice. The place is old and charming. We knew it had limitations so we were fine with it. It’s a bit up the hill but easy for us to walk to from boat. Easy to walk to beach, shops and restaurants. Hiked to Wrigley memorial from the hotel. We are in our early 60s and we were fine on this walk/hike. Would stay here again.

Main reason for 3 star is the pillows weren’t great. Also heard the people upstairs most of night.

No one answers the emergency line and their mailbox was full. No one was ever at the front desk- even 15 minutes before checkout and they close super early . No one cleaned the room or even replaced towels and toiletries. The room was cold and the beds only had sheets and a stingy blanket. The ocean view was obscured by trash and storage of broken patio furniture. Yeah… not going back.

No hot shower and no pressure on shower head! Told the front desk and they said nothing can be done. They were so rude. 11am checkout and as I was packing up last minute items and asked for more time, they came right at 11am and were again so rude . Never coming back here

Room needs a bit of work. I would call out the blinds on the door as there was a light directly in front of our room and it kept me up. It would also have been nice to have an iron/ironing board. Otherwise, I knew it was a Victorian so I had set my expectations accordingly. The standout here is the staff. What a great experience with the person who checked us in / out. Keep up the great work.

Good location about 7 to 10 minute walk from the boat dock to the hotel. For the price range hotel definitely is worth it. Staff did an excellent job and were very accommodating.

This place was great! Great location just about a block from the shore, great value for the money. Staff was friendly and attentive. We had an issue with our door and there is not staff at the desk after hours. We called the emergency number and someone came down to let us in IMMEDIATELY. I was super impressed. The building itself has quant historic charm. My only complaints would be the bed and pillows aren’t the best ( which if they aren’t yours from home they won’t feel right) and the walls are thin ( comes with the territory of old building). Overall great experience.

This was by far the worst Hotel I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve been in many hotels throughout the years. The Lady at the front desk was extremely RUDE and unhelpful. The room was terrible. The toilet broke on the second day we were there and initially we did not get any update or help with the broken toilet. The room is very dated and dirty. The floor was crusty and we had to wear socks the entire time we were there. The light/fan would turn on and off randomly throughout the night which made it difficult to sleep considering the room doesn’t have AC. Upon leaving, the SAME front desk lady didn’t say anything to us as we were leaving the hotel with our luggage. She was slouched in a random chair near the main entrance goofing off on her phone. VERY RUDE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD ERNED MONEY HERE!!!!!!

Everything was great! Super responsive, friendly,helpful staff! Only issue was the shower water pressure! I felt like Will Ferrel in the movie Elf taking a shower!😂

The ocean view was lovely. Short walk into town. Quiet and slept very well. We did not need the AC, the weather was perfect. The hotel is over 100 years old hotel and decorated old Victorian. The service was excellent and the rooms were very clean.

Up a steep hill so be prepared to walk uphill. Bare minimum amenities but clean and comfortable.

Good Value for Catalina Island. Rooms and hotel were clean. Location was only 5 min walk from the dock. No A/C in the rooms but that wasn't an issue during our stay.

We didn't have hot water for 2 days. No discount was offered, other than they would give us a refund if we canceled staying there. No other hotels had 2 beds available. No coffee available in the hotel. No drinking cups/glasses in the rooms. Only thing good was it was cute.

These are quaint older SMALL rooms, but the location is hard to beat. It would be challenging for larger people in some rooms, but for one petite me it was great. The staff was extra kind and helpful. It's no bells and whistles, I don't think the TV even worked, and the water takes a while to heat up, no coffee or water or breakfast offered, but really for the cost it was great.

Loved the historic hotel, with its quaint little rooms and period furnishings. The bed was quite comfortable. We forgot our keys one night and only had to wait about 5 minutes to be let in. Very friendly staff. Ice buckets would be very helpful, and a light by the ice machine. Also, no oatmeal packets the last 2 days, they ran out.

Absent staff, no heat, no amenities (coffee/tea/etc), outside area looked drab and unkempt, no bag check after checkout, no accessibility ramps, dusty fixtures

Staff was friendly and helpful! Loved the 2 room cottage. Coffee, Oatmeal and fruit was complimentary. Ice machine available. Walking distance to main part of island.

Staff was Excellent! A bit disappointed that no coffee or continental breakfast.
