Redwings Lodge Baldock

This is an old Travelodge under new ownership. Not much has been changed from Travellodge days apart from name. Same decor, same beds. Breakfast was very basic as described, cereal or toast. Only a couple of tables in entrance so encouraged to take back to room. There is a pub next door which serves decent home cooked meals that is not connected to hotel. Overall the staff were very pleasant and more helpful than you would find in a travellodge.

This place is perfect for what it is, an inexpensive roadside motel-type establishment. Careful you don’t miss the turning, it’s the one just before the petrol station. If you’re coming from the south you have to do a bit of a loop around to get to it. Room was spacious, nice, clean and comfortable but window (which you can open if required) seemed to let in a lot of road noise. Bathroom clean and functional, with a bath, plus shower on flexible hose with mount to place on the wall, which I prefer to fixed showers. Shower gel provided. Kettle in room with tea and coffee, including decaf. Plenty of parking. Breakfast is a bit odd, it’s severed at reception where there’s seating for just 8, and consists of bread/toast with a selection of jams, plus a selection of cereals, juice, tea and instant coffee. Good sized TV. Very comfortable bed. There’s a small restaurant in a separate building on site but when I arrived at 9pm they had stopped serving.

Stayed here before and very nice. Breakfast good 👍 only slight niggle is there aren't enough tables, which means you either wait or go back to the room. Maybe put tables under the stairs as well. But would definitely recommend 😃

Room was basic and a bit shabby. Hard to get hot water - had to run the tap for ages before it got warm. Breakfast was basic, DIY toast/cereal, and provided in reception area (no dining room). Vending machine was out of order. Was in a ground floor room and had loud footsteps (or something) from upstairs room all evening till late at night. Accessibility only from southbound A1, so had to backtrack every time we went out to get on right side of A1.

Staff are friendly but the rooms are getting ready for upgrades. Furniture is looking tired. There website on Expedia is well out of date still showing pets at 10 per stay, when I stayed in January I was told it had just gone up to 15 then on arrival I was told it was 15 per night

Dear Anne, I would like to raise a formal complaint about the condition of two rooms we were offered in your hotel Redwings lodge hotel, A1 M South, Hinxworth. I was disgusted by the poor condition of both rooms. Upon check-in, we were initially allocated room 13. We entered the room to an overwhelming smell of dampness. The bathroom ceiling and walls were covered in black mould and the room was unclean. Please see first 4 photos attached with some images of black mould. I reported to reception and we were offered a move to room 2. The corridor where room 2 was situated had a strong unbearable malodour. The room was warmer with some signs of mould in the bathroom. However, this room was far from clean. The level of cleanliness was an absolute disgrace. Cobwebs, spiders and thick surface dust was present, dried urine on the toilet, hairs and marks on the bedding. The condition of the bathroom, again, was disgusting and unhygienic. Please see attached photos of the condition of the tap fittings, plug holes etc which are full of limescale, dirty and presented a health hazard. Especially in today’s current climate of COVID-19, and hand cleaning measures and protocols are imperative. These bathrooms could not be used. We our complaint to the receptionist, who was very professional and understanding, and asked to cancel our booking for the next night. The receptionist explained that the room had been cleaned that day by the head housekeeper, which if true, is unacceptable.

Attentive staff, room spotlessly clean. Ideally placed on A1, local restaurant within walking distance. However loose wires in aerial so no working television signal in room. Mattress needs replacing, felt every spring and no support left. Breakfast is eaten at two tables in the reception lobby with no tables available today

This is the worse hotel I have ever stayed in bathroom filthy looked like it had not been cleaned for year Main room grime all over floor and dirt all around bed legs cups look like they had not been washed even after washing black marks would not come out Windows double glassing units had blown and hard to see out off staff lied Pay extra and avoid this please at all costs We book in around 4ish myself and two of my children come out in some mad rash eyes were swallow so we Left this place and traveled home a day early Staff told lies to cover them self they were no help wish I could give them a 0 rating because that’s what this place deserves Both rooms smelled of human feases

They provide a self service continental style breakfast - bread, toasters, selection of jams/honey, plus cereals and juice. The rooms are a good size. We had 2 rooms at the back, so it was nice and quiet. The beds aren't as comfy as some I've slept in, but it was ideal for a stop off hotel. Cotey's, the restaurant in the car park is excellent if you don't want to drive far for dinner or want to buy a hot breakfast.

Very basic and dated room.Didnt sleep at all as pillows very thin. Dirty towel and mould around bath. Skirting boards and walls in bedroom need a clean

Very, very basic and old-fashioned, Cobwebs on the ceiling, Found a creepy crawler on the pillow. Bathroom needs a lot of attention (Dirty looking)

The cleanliness is not the best, the room had pubic hairs as did the bathroom, the towel smelt like smoking, there was food on the carpet and the counter was filthy. Also the window were thick with mold, net curtains were also mold stained and hanging down in places. It is definitely a 2 star place

The staff in reception so friendly and helpful. Value for money is amazing. Comfy beds, nice and clean. Breakfast basic but plentiful. A bonus the excellent Coleys that does all home cooked food at reasonable prices on site.

Very cheap, but feels it. Bare minimum, no frills. Building shows it's age. Our room had a leaky tap and a bathroom light that flashed like a strobe. Beds aren't very comfortable. That all said, it wasn't too bad. Nobody expects 5 stars at this price point and it does the job. Staff were nice enough too.

The room was very basic but very clean and nice. Perfectly comfortable for one night stay. I’d just recommend using the earplugs as we were very close to noisy motorway.

The hotel is what it is. Nothing fancy at all but definitely does the job and is convenient. Breakfast in the morning is basic but more than suitable. If you can, ask for a room at the back of the hotel away from the road to avoid the road noise if you like to sleep with the window open.

Very out dated property. The bed and bedding was good, but the room and bathroom felt very tired.

Fab location, with great walks for the dogs. First floor room, not the biggest, booked a twin room, but none available, it was a sofa bed and double. The sofa bed was quite short.

Very dated & under invested but you get what you pay for having said that we were not disappointed for one night it was ok

Poor standard room. Had to ask for bedding.....twice, and then were expected to take it to the room ourselves. Room had cobwebs and was very tired, and previousley cleaned by Stevie Wonder!!! Beds were unconfortable, never again!

Although this is (I think) a budget hotel I have to say that the service was excellent. Both the night & day staff were so helpful & friendly.

The property is very far from town. It's mainly suitable for those with private transport.

Arrived checked in super quick and pain free Room good size , bed clean and ready Bit hard but I not used to it . Hot shower Breakfast ok Check out easy Only thing is early morning there’s a dog place next door and having windows open was loud barking dogs.

On route to Stansted, A1 closed, nightmare trying to get to hotel to find out you went to the road closure and got escorted.

Clean and tidy but needing some tic in the bathrooms and windows. Breakfast was a nice surprise. Handy for the A1, Luton Airport and the break up long journeys to London.

We always enjoy our stay at Redwings and is close to family. It's very comfortable and everything is included, even a good breakfast to start your day. Good place situated on the A1.

As always, a friendly greeting and clean room. The sofa in our room had a tatty cover. The breakfast is a welcome bonus if you dont want to go to the extreme of full English. Restaurant next door complements the offering. All very good value

Unfortunately there wasn’t much choice for the continental breakfast. Cereal or toast

When Booking was done over a week I specially ask for oats milk which was promised and the early evening of arrival check in the Receptionist said yes there is oats milk but will leave a note to remind next shift staff to provide BUT the morning for breakfast we were told there no Oats milk therefore my wife did not have breakfast ( Cereal as that all was there for breakfast and break to make your own toast. There was NO COOK breakfast, just cereal and bread for toast, which is really deceiving when declared breakfast included, instead should put down cereals and bread for toast only in that way A GOOD IDEA WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY INDICATED WHAT EXPECTED FOR SO CALLED BREAKFAST.Very Very disappointed for that.
