We really enjoyed the unique decor and setup. Our room had a separate coffee and sitting area, which allowed one of us to wake up early. The facility also covers heat and cold really well, with different built in heaters, a fan and extra blankets. Only small gripe - it has a fancy TV built into the wall that would not turn off. We suggested that the facility provide directions. On a positive note, the facility gave great directions and reminders in other areas. So, definitely come here if you’re hanging out in Volcano and don’t mind quiet hours starting at 9 pm. The town shuts down early.

The property was clean and well maintained. I really enjoyed the architecture of the rooms, somewhat unique. Although there was no one on duty, there’s ample access to towels, toiletries, etc. conveniently located close to volcano national Park. Can’t beat this place for the price!

We stayed one night at Chalet Kilauea near Volcano, and it was definitely an interesting experience. Everything is self-service here—no front desk, you pick up the key yourself and just head straight to your room. It’s a pretty cool setup, and there's a supply room if you run out of anything, which was nice. The room itself was pretty unique, kind of like a wooden cabin structure. The bathroom felt like stepping back to the Stone Age, but it was still okay for a one-night stay. The place is super quiet, which we appreciated. It's very close to Volcano Park, so it's great if you're planning to explore there. The only downside was I did spot a cockroach in the room, which wasn’t ideal. But overall, for the price and the location, it wasn't too bad. Not much to complain about, just be prepared for the self-service vibe and keep an eye out for critters!

A visual treat on our journey around the Big Island. We loved Room 104! Huge dining table/island, double sinks and double showers in the bathroom, ample supplies. Only suggestion is to have more dinner plates and utensils. Beautiful grounds with koi pond, waterfalls. Quick drive to Volcano and Village. A must when visiting Volcano. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This was such an amazing property! I loved the uniqueness; the space- with the separation of the 2 beds; the dehumidifiers; the "fireplace" heater; the huge shower-- they even had a showerstool for me to borrow which was handy due to a bad leg; the kitchenette had everything I needed! Mahalo! I'll be staying there again!!

Wood walls, wood ceilings wood bed and tables are absolutely beautiful. No A/C so it was a little warm during the day but it cools down nicely at night. No contact check in, great for introverts who don’t like people. They leave you everything you need for your stay. Very nice. Wife and I look forward to exploring other rooms.

Our bedsheets were not clean. They had blood on the pillow case and some kind of brown stain on the sheets. The rest of the place was clean but this was incredibly unsettling and inconvenient

The lodge was incredible! The room was so spacious and spotless. The whole property is beautiful and so peaceful. It was the perfect stay for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes!

We felt immediately at peace when we arrived at Chalet Kilauea. The grounds are serene, and at night the lights are red which reminded us of lava. Our room was extremely clean, and they already had the heater and a quiet humidifier on which made it incredibly comfortable. The bed and pillows were the perfect combination of supportive but soft. The views made us feel like we were in our own paradise with beautiful sounds of birds and frogs. The amenities in the room were well stocked, the shower had great water pressure with water that stayed warm. We absolutely loved the quirky decor so unique to this property which made it even more charming. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a hideaway! It was an amazing experience. We double-booked this over our condo in Kona because we wanted to be close to the east side of the island for two separate days of adventure and it was so worth it! Day 1: We recommend Hilo and waterfalls followed by stargazing at the volcano (we saw lava at night!) Day 2: hike the volcano and other parts of the National park, then make visits along trails and black sand beaches on the south side on the way back to Kona.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay. It was clean, spacious & a pretty neat place to stay. It’s like staying in a big Tree House😊. Wish we could have stayed longer but will look for this place next time we are in Hilo.

We really enjoyed the Chalet except for one thing -- strangely our room had no regular chair in it. There were stools for a table, but not just a regular sitting chair. If that was added it would be great.

Our room (101) was comfortable and quirky — made you feel like you were in a cozy cave. Can’t speak to the other rooms, but our place was huge, and the hotel’s location in Volcano provides easy access to the park and nearby restaurants (there aren’t many). Would definitely stay there again. The virtual check-in worked fine.

If you are looking for a cool place to stay in Volcano, look no further. I cannot say enough about how much I loved staying here. Awesome tropical vibe will make you feel like you are in another country. Be sure to book room #103 for the view outside your window which is an entire wall of glass yet very private.. Self check in and no staff on duty but super easy check in and everything you need is right there for you.

A nice, quiet property that is convenient for visiting the Volcanoes National Park. If that is your main itinerary, which it is for a lot of Big Island visitors, then this is your place to stay. You’ll love the room decor, the hands off approach of staff, and the quiet grounds. We stayed one night at Chalet Kilauea near Volcano, and it was definitely an interesting experience. Everything is self-service here—no front desk, you pick up the key yourself and just head straight to your room. It’s a pretty cool setup, and there's a supply room if you run out of anything, which was nice. The room itself was pretty unique, kind of like a wooden cabin structure. The bathroom felt like stepping back to the Stone Age, but it was still okay for a one-night stay. The place is super quiet, which we appreciated. It's very close to Volcano Park, so it's great if you're planning to explore there. The only downside was I did spot a cockroach in the room, which wasn’t ideal. But overall, for the price and the location, it wasn't too bad. Not much to complain about, just be prepared for the self-service vibe and keep an eye out for critters!

Great stay. I was given a free room upgrade! My only real issue was that the pillows were uncomfortable. Those should definitely be replaced.

A visual treat on our journey around the Big Island. We loved Room 104! Huge dining table/island, double sinks and double showers in the bathroom, ample supplies. Only suggestion is to have more dinner plates and utensils. Beautiful grounds with koi pond, waterfalls. Quick drive to Volcano and Village. A must when visiting Volcano. If you are going to Volcanos National Park, this is a fantastic location. It only took us 6 minutes to get to the park. It was very clean. I would love to hear the story behind it- the rooms are like works of art. Very funky. Beautiful really. An odd layout- our room didn’t have a chair to sit in to put on my shoes. Just 2 barstools. It is a no- host facility so be prepared to be by yourself in what seems like a remote place. The birds are amazing- you will feel like you are in a rainforest.

Our room (101) was comfortable and quirky — made you feel like you were in a cozy cave. Can’t speak to the other rooms, but our place was huge, and the hotel’s location in Volcano provides easy access to the park and nearby restaurants (there aren’t many). Would definitely stay there again. The virtual check-in worked fine.

We really enjoyed the unique decor and setup. Our room had a separate coffee and sitting area, which allowed one of us to wake up early. The facility also covers heat and cold really well, with different built in heaters, a fan and extra blankets. Only small gripe - it has a fancy TV built into the wall that would not turn off. We suggested that the facility provide directions. On a positive note, the facility gave great directions and reminders in other areas. So, definitely come here if you’re hanging out in Volcano and don’t mind quiet hours starting at 9 pm. The town shuts down early.

This place will forever hold a special place in my heart, I got engaged in this jungle! :) The unit was so cozy! The the interior was as if I was living in a modern stay. Check in was easy, and checking out was easier. I loved it here, and I would recommend it to my friends and family who plan on visiting the Volcano National Park! Pro tip: Grocery stores are are about 30-40 minutes away! Make sure to stop somewhere and pick up anything you may need. They have bowls, utensils, microwave, mini fridge, and wine glasses.

This was by far the best stay I had on my entire trip! Tucked away in the cutest little village, this perfect gem has all the charm and feel of the island. You can truly see the care put into every detail of the interior, making the entire stay feel warm, authentic, and inviting. My favorite part was hearing the frogs at night. I opened the windows, listened to the sounds of the island, and had one of the most peaceful nights of sleep on the entire trip. I will definitely be back! If you’re visiting Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, I highly recommend staying at this charming little Chalet Kilauea. You won’t be disappointed!

It’s like staying in a cool treehouse. My room was very spacious and quiet. The hotel has no staff on site but easy enough to contact if you need anything (I didn’t need to contact them for anything though). Definitely a cool place to stay.
