Elk River Hotel

Very beautiful and quiet area. But be aware there are steep stairs to some rooms.

We needed to be in the Sutton area for a day, and really didn’t expect much - would have settled for so much less for the money, but we were so happy with our dome Glamping experience! The Sycamore dome was spacious, offering a mini-fridge, a private bathroom with shower, and king bed (so comfy). The air conditioned dome was dry and comfortable. Our view of the Elk river was serene; our only regret was that our stay was so short, we didn’t get a chance to explore the area. We loved that the main house offered a full service restaurant and bar, very convenient, and the food was excellent. Glad we took advantage of the complementary breakfast too, it was very good, a nice touch. Here are our few criticisms; parking on the narrow street is tricky, they need more help in the restaurant (but isn’t that the problem everywhere?), and the bathroom in the dome is ready for a deep-cleaning (it was “good-enough”, but should be better). All in all, we really enjoyed this place and with those minor observations, wholeheartedly recommend staying here!

Not what I expected in a small town. This is a well thought-out place with very nicely thought out rooms. We stayed in the Lake room. (no lake view) But it was quiet, the bed was comfortable, nice bathroom with soft towels, with a nice deck over looking the woods. The restaurant has great food. The grounds are beautiful. Highly recommend it.

I thought the property was nice. The area was quiet and safe. Parking to the location is a little bit of a hassle if you get there later in the evening.

Lack of off-street parking. Staff were extremely rude. Basic amenities not provided and when told about this, received rude responses. Accommodations were very damp, musty-smelling, and not acceptable to stay there. Lack of proper heating besides 2 small plug-in heaters.

We enjoyed our stay in the River suite. We could see the river from the porch and enjoyed a quick walk to the beautiful river. We played a few games of jumbo yard sized Connect Four, and lounged in the hammocks. Would stay again. Thank you.

Loved the Snow room for having a veranda to relax on and easy access to the river to contemplate the beauty of creation. Nice place for the price. Easy check-in and checkout. The hotel decor is gorgeous. Very convenient to the new Elk River Rail trailhead in Gassaway where we biked. We arrived Saturday evening and it was tricky finding a place to park so we were down the block a little ways, but after that we had no issues. The grounds are beautiful but could use some love and care (weeding) and grass removal after mowing.

We stayed in the rain song room in the back. Very cute and clean, with a balcony that overlooked the river. The staff went over and above with an issue with a neighbor when I requested help. Staff was very friendly and accommodating throughout my stay.I loved the cute dining room for breakfast. It was $10, But that's a good price nowadays. The property is old and the living area of my room got a little warm during the excessively hot day, but plenty cool in the bedroom to sleep. Having an EV charger for free next door was an added bonus. I would definitely stay again

This hotel would be much better if it was better staffed and maintained. We waited 1/2 hour after ordering dinner at the cafe, only to find out it would be another 30 minutes. We cancelled and went to our room to eat popcorn and soup we had packed. Room was dusty and had bugs.

Generally a cute property. We stayed in the Carriage House room. We slept well, but the bathroom tub wouldn’t drain, so it was very dirty. We had to clean the tub before we used it.

The deck was extremely nice. Parking was absolutely terrible. No designated parking. The dome was not clean thoroughly prior to getting there and the kitchenette was not restocked and the coffee pot was broken. Other than these things, it was a nice stay though. The deck redeem the whole thing.

Emily was pleasant and informed us there would be no dinner and no breakfast for our B&B stay and were not notified at the time of booking that the chef would be off. Not good. That should have been disclosed. It was our anniversary. The room looked nice upon entry, then we saw the filth. That room hasn’t been dusted in weeks there were cobwebs at the spires(tops) of the 4 poster bed and covering the entire headboard, the bed rails…disgusting. The floor was so filthy, the bottoms of my feet were black 5 minutes after I took my shoes off. The fan was caked with so much filth,I was hesitant to turn it on for fear of dust spewing, so I took it upon myself to take a washcloth and clean the fan. Mopped a path to the bathroom and wore socks until I got in bed. In addition to the fan, dusted the neglected furniture, the baseboards, the door panels. I am highly allergic to dust. It was not an I am highly allergic to dust. We paid $133 for a bed. We were alone in the house. Nothing offered. I would like some sort of compensation or at least a phone call. Joan Hughes

Room smelled musky and moldy, had to get a candle from front desk. Bathroom floor, tub and sink had black hair every where. Booked for two nights only stayed one .

At check in, nobody was there and we had to call a lady. First room she put me in had no heat and the second room she sent me to was locked, she had me go back into the main house and told me where to locate all of the keys. Once I located the key I was able to get into the room. The room was nice however the sheets are badly stained the floor didn’t seem very clean either. Also, the on site cafe is only open Tuesday- Saturday which seems silly as people travel on the weekend and would really appreciate breakfast on Sunday mornings.

We absolutely loved staying here. It was super clean quaint and the staff was very kind. It was like stepping back in time. Our room was beautiful. Very colorful and bright. Beautiful furnishings and the grounds were amazing. Right on Elk River and very quiet. Its a little bit off the highway but well worth the drive. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious. We will definitely come back again.

We stayed in the yurt and it was great....nice views and very clean. Will definitely be coming back.

I dont usually leave reviews. I always read them, so I know their value. Ive struggled for the past month about leaving this review. I feel this needs to be said. We booked this place for our mother/daughter birthday. We always try to do at least one thing every trip that we've never done before. We booked the "glamping" room. We arrived by 6:30pm.The gentleman was just leaving, but he inconveniently showed us our unit. I will say the ser up was really cool.Temperatures were to plummit this night. We put our things in the unit and left to eat. When we returned, it was freezing in unit. The heater was above one of the beds, so I went to adjust the heat while my daughter took a shower. No hot or warm water for her. We also had dirty sheets and a dirty towel in between sheets. Disgusting! Long story shortened,the heater did not work. It only blew cold air and the remote needed for it, had dead batteries. I immediately called them and got their answering machine.(this is about 8 to 830 pm) I left a detailed message...we have no heat, it is now in the 20s outside and would they please come fix the unit or move us to another. We put on all our clothes along with our winter coats and every blanket. We called for 2 hours with no response. It appeared they blocked our calls.Who treats their paying guest like this? We could not sleep there. We still have never heard from them.No apology, no refund, no customer courtesy! Not a Word! I would NEVER stay there!! Look elsewhere to sleep!

The resort is beautiful, very well managed, and very clean. The owner of the establishment is wonderful. Customer service is excellent. The only down side is the quite loud lumber mill across the river with machinery that runs 24/7.

Not what I expected in a small town. This is a well thought-out place with very nicely thought out rooms. We stayed in the Lake room. (no lake view) But it was quiet, the bed was comfortable, nice bathroom with soft towels, with a nice deck over looking the woods. The restaurant has great food. The grounds are beautiful. We were only at the property from late evening until early morning. We arrived after 10 and could easily navigate the property. Our space would perfect for our four adults and one preteen to sleep and have room to spread out for a bit on our roadtrip.

We stayed in the bird song room. It was a separate building with a balcony that overlooked the elk river. We had to leave early so didn't have breakfast. Cafe had good pizza and beer selection.

Rooms were beautiful and beds super comfortable! Loved that one of the Braxxie chairs is close by!

It was great to stay in an historic hotel and learn about the history of the property and the town. Loved the ornate beauty of the rooms and the king sized bed was comfortable. The option of breakfast in the dining room was a plus. Emily was sweet and eager to please the guests.

We stayed in The glamping tents which are nice but…. Person that checks you in wasn’t there, not enough towels, had to ask for toilet paper, no coffee in the room, no paper towels, running sawmill close by for noise. My son left his pillow, I emailed several times with no response, even though it states in their auto email reply that they will mail any left behind objects back to you. It’s a good concept but poorly run facility.

Quaint hotel by the river. Comfortable and quiet. Staff isn’t always on sight. Limited breakfast hours. Staff is friendly and courteous.

Staff was super friendly and helpful, from the moment I got there, they actually came out onto the cobblestone street to help me find a place to park (they also run a nice Italian restaurant, so the street was full for my Friday night arrival). I stayed in the main building, which had an old-fashioned b&b style to it. All wood flooring, lots of windows, full sized bathroom, fancy king bed. I was there in winter, and that meant my room was a bit drafty upon entering it, but they had enough space heaters to make it feel comfortable rather quickly.

There was absolutely no service. Could not get ahold of anybody all day. They treated their hotel like it was a hobby, not a business. The main house was gorgeous but The cottage was less then stellar With peeling paint and rotten floorboards

We absolutely love this place! Jill is an excellent host and very accommodating! The day at elk River Café was everything we wanted and more! We will definitely be back!

We had absolutely no problem staying at Elk River except our stay wasn't long enough. The young lady who registered us in at 8pm was lovely and another young lady saw us at our car, in the rain, getting our luggage and stopped to help us carry it all to our room. Our Bird Song room was wonderful and clean, we enjoyed every minute except it was just too short. We travel quite a bit from through West Virginia and Elk River will definitely be a stop along the way, making sure we stay a few days to really enjoy it.

We stayed in one of the Domes. It was very beautiful in and out. Rivwe access was very easy. We went to Dam and marina and both are must visit

Great old country Inn. Just off the highway. Beautiful architecture, good food. Reasonable prices. By the river - quiet and absolutely comfortable.

I will no stay here again, nothing to do, really old little town, scary.. we left a night earlier we didn’t feel good, and didn’t like it.

Easy access off I-79 and a welcome change from the cookie cutter sleep cheap places that I have historically frequented. The room was 100% as shown in the photos and was a clean, quiet, comfortable place to stay. On-site bar and dinner offerings were great. My only regret was that I had to get up early and get back on the road so I missed out on what was likely a nice breakfast in their cafe. I'll be going back!

Elk River Hotel and Cafe is a quaint, fairly isolated but classic spot. This was our third time here and we enjoy the ambiance and remoteness of this hotel.

We stayed in the Carriage House, with a view of the river. This lovely Inn is located near the end of a quiet street, and has a nice cafe/restaurant on the first floor of the historic main house. We had a delicious dinner as well as breakfast the next morning. The Innkeepers are engaging and friendly. I’m sure we will be back.

Very nice property with a great river view. Couple of nice bars/restaurants nearby plus 2 cryptid museums.

We were passing through on our way from Georgia to Ontario and stayed in a very comfortable room in the main building. We also had dinner at the restaurant and the menu was excellent and the food was terrific. If you stay make sure you eat in the restaurant

This quaint Inn offers a nice getaway in Wild Wonderful West Virginia!! My sister and I stayed in the Birdsong Suite (2 rooms/beds). Not the Greenbrier of course but a lovely place with helpful, hospitable staff. The Cafe’s meals (though limited) were delicious. A nice getaway location or nice place to stay when traveling through.

The property is cool old building. The carriage house we stayed in was good not great. Property could be great with better care. Breakfast wasn't until 8:30am so we had to leave and eat elsewhere.

Overall wonderful experience! The glamping dome was cozy and clean with a well functioning AC unit and comfortable bed. Breakfast was a delicious quiche with sausage, potatoes, and an orange. I was just expecting a typical scrambled egg or waffle but I was pleasantly surprised with the offerings. Great stay for couples!
