Albatross Hotel

Elevator was down during our stay. Bathroom door would not close. Poor seating in the room, a cheap office chair just does not cut it. Best view of the tv was while seating on the toilet. No microwave or mini frig. in room.

The main elevator was not working , we were sent to the elevator at the back of the hotel. Took the elevator to the second floor, after looking around, this was still not the correct level. Went to the next floor and still had to carry our suitcases down half a flight. Our room was as far from this location as you could get and the hotel is so convoluted we had to go through doors and ramps to get to our room. Thus hotel is very noisy. You can hear people talking and coughing in the room across. This person left at 4:45 am banging the door and exit door. Then a semi truck started outside our room and idled for 15 minutes. The worst sleep we have had in 2 weeks in Newfoundland. I would not recommend this hotel other than the great service from the waitress in the dining room.

Easy check in! Very accommodating! Found out I have a pet and provided me with a room on the ground level!! Very pleasant to deal with and helpful

It's a well established spot on the TCH midway across Newfoundland. There are additional amenities nearby. They let me do my laundry before checking in. Staff in front, restaurant, and lounge were great to me.

Check in staff very nice and helpful. The bartender in the lounge was extremely friendly. She went above and beyond to help make my stay the most comfortable.

Only complaint is the distance of our room from entrance and odd layout to find the room.

Easy to find. This is an older, but nice hotel and very popular hotel with a nice restaurant in-house. Busy, but very friendly and comfortable. I would stay here again.

Albatross had everything we needed while passing through Gander. A little dated but clean and comfortable.

The room was fine, clean & comfortable. It was not on the road side so it was quiet as well. There was no fridge in the room which was a surprise. I was told you have to order it in advance to get one. As it was only one night I didn't bother. The staff was nice & froze my ice packs overnight in their fridge. The hallways & lobby look dated and the carpets could use a cleaning. I didn't try the restaurant as it closed at 8pm but I understand it is quite good.

The hotel was old, dark and smelled smoky. It was convenient and clean.

Shower didn’t drain, black mold in shower, entire inside of hotel reeked of cigarettes, no fridge, no microwave, under the bed had stuff from previous guests, very expensive for what you get.

Went to bed and there was a key card under the sheet in the bed. I didn’t feel the bed was changed from the night before.

The room we were given after we asked for 1st floor. Not enough plugs for electronics. Carpeting and furniture had stains on it

If I could give a minus number it would be that - Waller unglued throughout room - dirty and dingy- loud and unkempt hotel - do not spend a dime here - terrible + + cobweb by curtains- dirty visible in radiator footing - bedding thin and worn out I’d like a refund from Expedia as this hotel should not be represented by you

The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel could use some updating, but our stay was excellent. The lady at the front desk for checkin was fantastic! I believe her name was Cathy. We will definitely stay again!

The room was clean but very, very outdated. Definitely in need of renovation and new furniture. We had two double beds in the room and one was broken. It sank to the floor when you sat on it so we wouldn't dare sleep on it. I did tell the front desk staff and they made a note of it.

We stayed for 1 night. The room was ok. I feel like every room should have a refrigerator but ours didn’t. It was an inconvenience since it was summer and a heat warning

The property is very old and needs a major upgrade.

It was fine. Good enough for a night. Overpriced. Carpets in the rooms. Booked on Expedia and when I got there, the front desk lady said the price was $50 more than what I booked on Expedia and she has no control over what Expedia charges, she has to charge me the higher price. Which makes no sense at all, then the hotel shouldn’t advertise on Expedia if the hotel cannot honor the prices. It just seemed like a bait and switch scam to me, to let me book online for a cheaper price then ask for more once in at the counter and it’s too late to find a different place.

I have stayed at the Albatross a few times now. The front desk staff range from extremely friendly and wonderful, to rude, ignorant and just downright unfriendly. My latest visit was enough to drive me away for good. The older, grey hair lady at the desk was just pure unpleasant. I did nothing but show up (after the appropriate check in time, not before) to check in and got nothing but rudeness. She was worse to the people who were there before me. And when we walked in with our bags we could hear her talking very loud and ignorantly to someone on the phone. She is not good for the business.

Upon checking in, I was charged $250.00, although the booking stated that the total was $218.50, including taxes. We then proceeded to our assigned room, located in the basement. The entirety of the floor was wet, and the room was humid, which was causing issues for my breath (I have asthma), so much so that my husband went to the front desk to mention. One of the staff came to the room to check the floor. He could not provide a reason for the floor being wet. He then went back to speak with the person at the desk. They decided to move us to a room on the first floor, which was nice of them to do and was better for air quality. When I was checking out at 10:55, I was informed that there was a hold of $655.50 on my card "in case I wanted to be a rock star and skip out without paying or causing damage to the room". My issue with this payment is that I was not informed at time of booking or checking in that this would be charged against my card. I then asked about the refund for the other amount that was charged because of a damage hold, which there was none. I have been in contact with the hotel management yesterday and she first stated that I was charged a different charge from Expedia and that she couldn't do anything about it. I reiterated that the charge through Expedia was $218.50 taxes included. After repeating this twice, she said yes, I was correct. She said that they would put the refund into place. It is now 26 hours later, and four phone calls, and still no refund.

Our check-in experience was disappointing. The older lady at the front desk was not welcoming, which set an unpleasant tone upon arrival. Front desk staff should be friendly and accommodating, as they are the first point of contact for guests. Additionally, she seemed to lack understanding of how bookings made through online travel agencies work, especially regarding cancellation policies. Proper training in this area would be beneficial. On a more positive note, the young lady at the front desk during our checkout was very helpful and pleasant, she provided the level of service we expected from the start. Unfortunately, the hotel entrance and our room both had a strong odor, similar to that of a cat. The smell in the room was particularly bad. We suggest using humidifiers with essential oils to help improve the air quality for future guests. The bathroom had a slow-draining tub, and the coffee brewer in the room was unclean with significant buildup, which was quite off-putting. Lastly, the older lady working in the dining area was incredibly sweet, her kindness was a highlight of our stay. God love her. This hotel is owned by Steele Hotels, and while the property is older, the company should make more effort to align the hotel's standards with guest expectations. Age is no excuse for neglecting cleanliness, service consistency, and basic hospitality.

We were passing through Gander and needed a convenient place to lay our head for the night. The Albatross was exactly that. The staff were great and the hotel wasn't far from anything.

Despite its age, the hotel is clean and comfortable. The food was good and staff were wonderful. Very conveniently located.

Dining room staff were unorganized and the 3 servers couldn't handle 6 tables. At breakfast we were seated but after waitubg 10 minutes for someone to come over to our table with menus, we left.

Property is convenient for travel across NL Staff were pleasant and professional. Restaurant was reasonably priced. The food was tasty.

I liked the service in the dining room with Mandy. However my steak was not great, just okay. The vending machines were empty, it was difficult to get bottled water and snacks. The room (254) was very outdated with old carpet.

I thought the hotel was fine. A smell in one area i passed through. As well someone was smoking weed. I could smell it in the hallway. Breakfast service was slow. Maybe not enough people working. One server told me they were out of bacon but a server at the next table offered it to her guests and they got it. One of my toutons was burnt on one side but still raw in the middle.
