The location of the motel is convenient--only 3 minutes from Carthage. It's about what you'd expect for a roadside motel. The room was comfortable and spacious, with a refrigerator and microwave. Housekeeping service was prompt and reliable. The room, while old, was great for a stopover while driving through Illinois. The on-site manager was pleasant, engaging, and friendly. For a comfortable stay driving through Illinois, I'd absolutely be willing to stay here again

The motel and area was very quiet. Staff was nice. Room was dated but very clean and b da very very comfortable I would definitely stay there again. Bathroom was dated but in excellent working condition.

The owner called me a few days before my reservation and told me that I had booked three nights and wanted to confirm that was correct. I told her, no I only reserved one and repeated the date that I reserved it for. When I arrived, the office smelled like cigarettes. No other guests present. (I checked in around 5:15) She said she was giving me a great deal on the room. This Motel was built in the 50s, but there was no fresh soap nor shampoo, etc. There was used soap in the shower. The toilet had not been cleaned for months. Had a strange smell and didn’t look at all as represented on Expedia. I’m OK with an older property that’s clean. And I can tolerate a lot, but there was no way I was going to tolerate this!!! I left and made arrangements elsewhere. She still tried to get me to stay telling me she would give me a better rate. She charged my card for something and it hasn’t been refunded She texted and called me multiple times. Here is the VM she left me the next day saying again that I was booked for more days. “Hi Diana your book for today too so I just want you to like confirm like you had to tell that about today you are not here so otherwise they charge you today too I'm no I'm not sure about the Expedia policy so just contact them because in my register is showing me today's booking to like continue so your money goes and also please I'm just telling you to contact Expedia as soon as you can and just discuss your OK thank you. CANCEL PROPERTY PLEASE!!!

This is a small roadside motel that has been there for decades. It needs updating and some TLC, but the proprietor is very friendly and eager to help. He is so sweet! The room was mostly very clean (one litmus test being that walking barefoot on the floor resulted in NO dirty feet). There were small things like impossible to keep up with white grout, and dust in the a/c, which we didn’t need to use. The beds aren’t anything to rave about, but they weren’t uncomfortable either. My family and I are in the area 2-3 times a year to visit family, and we are likely to book this motel again based on affordability and it not being gross or terribly uncomfortable. It IS noisy there, right on Hwy. 136, but it’s a pretty convenient location as well. With even just a few small updates at a time this could become an exceptional little vintage boutique motel.

This was a very strange hotel. First of all, when I went to check in the guy had all my information printed on a sheet of paper but I still had to fill out a card with all the same information. Then it seemed like he didn't know what to do with me so he made a phone call and then gave me the key to the room. When I got into the room it seemed like the air wasn't working but there was a switch on the wall in the middle of the bed that when I flipped it, the air turned on. The wifi worked once I called the front desk to get the password but that information was not provided at check in. The shower was hot and had good pressure but the bathroom was very small. Th bed was very uncomfortable. It was not even and there were many lumps in it. Then someone came knocking on the door at 8:30 am the next morning when check out wasn't until 11. Since I hadn't slept well due to the bed, I just got up and left anyway but I should have been able to stay in the room until 11 if I wanted.

We stayed at the PW for a place to stay for three nights while visiting family in the area. It was a great room for a good nights sleep and shower. The room was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. The decor is outdated; however, you cares because you cannot beat the price of the room. The owner was very welcoming. Our regular routine was to leave in the morning and return at night. My suggestion would be to install a large pole light or large lighted sign at the turn off the highway as it was very hard to see the turn at night. We will stay again.

No to pets but did not have any! No towels No Tv remote I retrieve one from desk two people had to program and then the Dish tv service stopped working! No telephone in room and window blinds were broken which was a problem of privacy! Would not recommend this to anyone! I would like my money back!! I hope I have hot water in the morning for a shower! Really disappointed and disgusted with this property! Also if you want a cup of coffee it will cost you a dollar in the office! At most it may be worth closing it down or reduce the cost to $20.00!

We were fooled by many reviews of “Excellent”, I’m not sure how those happened. I love a cute remodeled older motel, but this one did not fit that vibe. It was dated, the room smelled terrible, the blankets were stained, the decor dated, the room horribly stuffy when we arrived, and check in was way more complicated than it should have been since I booked and paid on Expedia. This motel has potential to be super cute, but it needs some love and care put into it. I’m not usually a harsh reviewer, but I was really mislead on the quality of this establishment.

It was not bad for the price, however I was made to pay when I arrived even tho I already paid at booking. The owner yelled at me and said we were dirty people because I nicked my ankle shaving and got a few dots of blood on the towel and because they took our wash cloths and wouldn’t give us any more my daughter used a towel to wash her make up off! There was a razor blade and trash behind the beds

The room was really clean with vintage decor from the early 80’s. The bed was comfortable and linens were soft and clean. Also the price was excellent. It’s a classic motor hotel.

Very nice individual at the front desk who greeted me and quickly checked me in. I was a little worried at first because it was so affordable but I have to say it is one of the cleanest places I have stayed in. Bed was comfortable and the shower was very clean. Absolutely would stay here again. My stay was a just to sleep and shower and back on the road so no thrills just rest and shower.

One of my first jobs in the 1970s was managing a little roadside motel. Checking in here was like stepping backward in time. That should not be seen as uncomplimentary. We found our stay to be quite adequate, For all that it is very dated. We tend to check in and drop our stuff go do things come back and are in the room basically just long enough to sleep. For an aged property It was clean and the clerk is incredibly friendly

The room was really clean with vintage decor from the early 80’s. The bed was comfortable and linens were soft and clean. Also the price was excellent. It’s a classic motor hotel.

This is a small roadside motel that has been there for decades. It needs updating and some TLC, but the proprietor is very friendly and eager to help. He is so sweet! The room was mostly very clean (one litmus test being that walking barefoot on the floor resulted in NO dirty feet). There were small things like impossible to keep up with white grout, and dust in the a/c, which we didn’t need to use. The beds aren’t anything to rave about, but they weren’t uncomfortable either. My family and I are in the area 2-3 times a year to visit family, and we are likely to book this motel again based on affordability and it not being gross or terribly uncomfortable. It IS noisy there, right on Hwy. 136, but it’s a pretty convenient location as well. With even just a few small updates at a time this could become an exceptional little vintage boutique motel.

This was a very strange hotel. First of all, when I went to check in the guy had all my information printed on a sheet of paper but I still had to fill out a card with all the same information. Then it seemed like he didn't know what to do with me so he made a phone call and then gave me the key to the room. When I got into the room it seemed like the air wasn't working but there was a switch on the wall in the middle of the bed that when I flipped it, the air turned on. The wifi worked once I called the front desk to get the password but that information was not provided at check in. The shower was hot and had good pressure but the bathroom was very small. Th bed was very uncomfortable. It was not even and there were many lumps in it. Then someone came knocking on the door at 8:30 am the next morning when check out wasn't until 11. Since I hadn't slept well due to the bed, I just got up and left anyway but I should have been able to stay in the room until 11 if I wanted.

I had to get a hotel last minute for a minor change in our travel plans. I needed it to be cheap due to the unexpected cost. So I booked the Prairie Winds Motel and for the price, I could not have been happier. It was in a safe location, surrounded by corn. It was easy access off the highway. It was clean and did not have a smell. The price was very cheap and the view of the sunset, over the corn, was gorgeous. For the price and service, I highly recommend this hotel. I am a light sleeper and it was silent. I never heard anything all night.

It was not bad for the price, however I was made to pay when I arrived even tho I already paid at booking. The owner yelled at me and said we were dirty people because I nicked my ankle shaving and got a few dots of blood on the towel and because they took our wash cloths and wouldn’t give us any more my daughter used a towel to wash her make up off! There was a razor blade and trash behind the beds

The location of the motel is convenient--only 3 minutes from Carthage. It's about what you'd expect for a roadside motel. The room was comfortable and spacious, with a refrigerator and microwave. Housekeeping service was prompt and reliable. The room, while old, was great for a stopover while driving through Illinois. The on-site manager was pleasant, engaging, and friendly. For a comfortable stay driving through Illinois, I'd absolutely be willing to stay here again

The owner called me a few days before my reservation and told me that I had booked three nights and wanted to confirm that was correct. I told her, no I only reserved one and repeated the date that I reserved it for. When I arrived, the office smelled like cigarettes. No other guests present. (I checked in around 5:15) She said she was giving me a great deal on the room. This Motel was built in the 50s, but there was no fresh soap nor shampoo, etc. There was used soap in the shower. The toilet had not been cleaned for months. Had a strange smell and didn’t look at all as represented on Expedia. I’m OK with an older property that’s clean. And I can tolerate a lot, but there was no way I was going to tolerate this!!! I left and made arrangements elsewhere. She still tried to get me to stay telling me she would give me a better rate. She charged my card for something and it hasn’t been refunded She texted and called me multiple times. Here is the VM she left me the next day saying again that I was booked for more days. “Hi Diana your book for today too so I just want you to like confirm like you had to tell that about today you are not here so otherwise they charge you today too I'm no I'm not sure about the Expedia policy so just contact them because in my register is showing me today's booking to like continue so your money goes and also please I'm just telling you to contact Expedia as soon as you can and just discuss your OK thank you. Very nice individual at the front desk who greeted me and quickly checked me in. I was a little worried at first because it was so affordable but I have to say it is one of the cleanest places I have stayed in. Bed was comfortable and the shower was very clean. Absolutely would stay here again. My stay was a just to sleep and shower and back on the road so no thrills just rest and shower.

Beware! Do not stay here! There were no check-in instructions. We had to search everywhere to find a contact number. We were arriving late and called 10 times trying to reach someone. No response. When we arrived tired and exhausted, she tried to charge us more in order to get our room. Terrible in every way.

The man that checked me in was fabulous!!! He changed me room to what I was comfortable with and even insisted taking in my bags!!! Very kind and definitely customer oriented!!! Will definitely stay here again.

Very kind older gentleman, English was no his native language, but he made up for it in graciousness. On a road that includes an auto wake up call ( sun up traffic) at no extra charge. Very good bargain- would stay there again.

We stayed at the PW for a place to stay for three nights while visiting family in the area. It was a great room for a good nights sleep and shower. The room was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. The decor is outdated; however, you cares because you cannot beat the price of the room. The owner was very welcoming. Our regular routine was to leave in the morning and return at night. My suggestion would be to install a large pole light or large lighted sign at the turn off the highway as it was very hard to see the turn at night. We will stay again.

No to pets but did not have any! No towels No Tv remote I retrieve one from desk two people had to program and then the Dish tv service stopped working! No telephone in room and window blinds were broken which was a problem of privacy! Would not recommend this to anyone! I would like my money back!! I hope I have hot water in the morning for a shower! Really disappointed and disgusted with this property! Also if you want a cup of coffee it will cost you a dollar in the office! At most it may be worth closing it down or reduce the cost to $20.00!

I took long before writing this review but after reading another review where the owner called a customer a liar I decided to go ahead and write this review for anyone wanting to visit this hotel. It is an older hotel however I can see they have really made an effort to improve it. I booked this on Expedia and I paid $70 for the night. I knew there was going to be a pet fee so when I pulled up, I expected a fee. I was charged $30 for my pets. (In the defense of the owner I did not have access to their pet policy from Hotels.com) Before taking anything in a motel room, I always go in to inspect for bed bugs. I did not see any in this room so I decided it was okay. Then I noticed the bathroom was not cleaned properly. The owner knocked on my door and told me I needed to pay an additional pet fee for my small dog. What?!? So she charged me an additional $20 for my Chihuahua. (Again, I did not have access to their rules.) I told the owner “instead of me paying a pet fee, maybe you should pay me to stay in your dirty room” she immediately called me a liar! She brought the housekeeper to my room, still thinking that I am lying (because the housekeeper swore it was clean) after an inspection she agreed it was dirty. The owner did ask me if I wanted another room however, with my dogs I would only be able to have an older room. She didn’t want the dogs in her best rooms. I understand completely her reasoning. And I chose to stay where I was. The bottom line is she called me a LIAR!

The room was clean. It had been recently refreshed with new decor. Either the nextdoor guest or previous guest had smoked in the bathroom. The owner was very helpful in trying to clear out the smell. For the price I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and nice it was. It looks to be family owned and they are going through and remodeling/refreshing each room. Air conditioning was fabulous. Beds are comfy and linens were fresh and clean.

Everything electronic, except for the refrigerator was unplugged. The bedside lamp was broken. There was soap residue on the shower drain. There was no type of soap products in the bathroom or shower. The mirror was covered with hand prints. Had to have maintenance to turn the heat on.I spent the night there simply because I had driven 600 miles. I would not stayed there if my wife was with me. At least I didn’t see anything crawling. Check in and out process is atrocious.
