Zaballa House

Advertised on Hotels.com as a B and B and there is only the B and no B. Bare walls. Thin pillows. Towels minimal. No facial tissue or water glasses. Location is great and offstreet parking a plus. Office is not open.

Clean room and not completely furnished looks like room was just painted and no wall paintings. Only slightly negative just need to update as not really a BnB. Perfect location in downtown and free parking onsite a plus plus. I recommend for location, price and cleanliness.

No access to the main Victorian house which made Zaballa’s so unique! No breakfast which used to be served in main house. Very impersonal- key put in envelope with room no. Must climb outside flight of stairs to adjacent building to very sterile room . Mattress was terrible! No pictures or decor. Very disappointing as we stayed here before under previous owner! Didn’t realize it was no longer a bed and breakfast. It is centrally located which is good and could stand some plants and outdoor furniture on the deck in front of #25.

Great experience. Never met any of the staff. Not sure what amenities are available. The room was great. It was clean and well stocked. Some of the bathroom vanity lights were out. The bed was very comfortable. Room was comfortable although I couldn’t figure out how to turn on the fireplace. No problem, didn’t need it. QUIET very quiet. Very relaxing. Location was great, easy access to restaurants and shops. Overall we were very happy with the facility. Plan on a return visit this winter to test the fireplace. ;). Thanks for the great stay.

Take away breakfast from the website because it’s just a bed. A little shopworn but clean enough and centrally located. Pretty minimal in terms of creature comforts, like no facial tissue and only one packet of coffee for a two night stay. And our car was dented overnight in the hotel lot. Ouch 😣

The lighting in the room was fluorescent and there was no TV (not a big deal, but unexpected). The blinds were broken and there were spiders and webs everywhere. It was nice and quiet, however. For the price of the room, it should not feel like a hostel.

We really liked everything about Zaballa house lately. The room was very spacious with lots of natural light and super clean. Didn’t hear any neighbors nearby which was a plus. Loved the balcony and views of Main Street. I would definitely stay here again.

The room is huge! I have everything I could need… Fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, huge jacuzzi, fireplace, couch, closet, balcony, etc. You can tell things are old and slightly run down, but it almost adds to the charm! We are very much enjoying our stay.

Broken window & blinds, a/c didn’t work, place needs lots of maintenance. We have stayed here a couple times in the past and it never looked like this.

We have stayed at Zaballa House several times, We like this inn for it's ideal location in downtown, easy drive or walk to the beach and reasonable prices. We love the beautiful, spacious suites with kitchen and giant bath tub (bring your own bubble bath as none is provided). On our last visit, the fire place did not work, which was a big disappointment, some of the furniture desperately needs repair or replacement, and there was no WiFi. We stayed over NYE so there was no staff available for assistance and no breakfast either. But all considered it was a very nice stay and I highly recommend Zaballa house for a reasonably priced get away to Half Moon Bay.

Great location for downtown access and coastal access. Hotel was unique but in need of some renovation and repairs. The bed was terrible and must be updated.

Pros: Keys were ready when we arrived (never met another person). Room was super big and had a balcony with great chairs. Cons: They had a thermostat but no actual AC and the room was quite warm. Also the bar next door played loud music till 10:30.

No office or on site staff. Could not find our room plastic card keys to get into room-it took about 15 minutes for me to find them at one of the "cottages" on a small table on the porch of the cottage. (Once we found the envelope with the room key, there was a phone number provided to call for "hotel emergencies". Door was incredibly difficult to open- it took anywhere from 3 to 10 tries before it would activate. Really steep stairs to get to our room. Toilet backed up on the last day- we called property manager, and he promised to send out someone to fix it. We asked to wait for about 45 minutes, and after 30 we called again to say we were ready. He said someone would be out soon. After waiting about 30- 40 minutes, we had finished packing. We went to Burger King abut a mile away to use their bathroom. Great location, a spacious room, and comfy bed. The room decor was over the top Vegas gaudy! too many other negatives. We will stay at another hotel when we come back to Half Moon Bay.

No one was there to check me in....No person, No bell, no phone, no number to call . Luckily another guest gave me the phone number to call. I didn't have the phone number as I booked on line.. I called the number. A lady showed up and checked me in. The room was very nice and the location was great. Only the check-in was sketchy.

I like the size of the unit the vaulted ceiling and the artwork and the whirlpool tub. Whirlpool not working. My major issue was with Registration i know the process now but very strange to frequent flyers at major hotels. My wife and I went out for breakfast but were unable to return to our room because the plastic electronic key didnt work. I called the number available no answer went to voice mail. Then because we left our kets in the room we felt stranded. Then we thought maybe staff owner might of had a medical emergency We went to try to go to front desk knock on Door then we saw someone to help us. We were considering calling fire department next to help us or provide potential melp medical emergency. All in all we had a great time and would stay there again Great Value. Major Jeff

Arrived at 5pm. No staff available. Reception door locked. Key left in a envelope outside. Same issue with check out. Nobody available. My wife left shoes in the room. Cannot get anyone to respond by phone. I call it the ghost hotel.

I got in very late and was still able to check in. It was a little confusing at first, since there was no staff left when I arrived. But all in all, it was a good experience.

David was very trusting and accommodating. We left a jacket in the room and they arranged for it to be sent to us

How can you call a place Bed and Breakfast if there is no breakfast? I didn’t mind no one being there when we arrived, they left an envelope on the front porch with my name on it. But we saw no one there the entire time we were there. It’s an old place and the pipes were noisy all night. I will not be coming back.

Never saw a person our entire stay. Envelope with key cards left in front when we arrived. Went into the inn next morning...no one to be seen. Table set for breakfast, but no breakfast was ever in the works. Kept checking, but no communication whatsoever.

We loved the Victorian decor and the size of the rooms of our unit. The stairway (outdoors) is run down, but we did not mind. We liked being in town and able to walk to all shops. The beach is close by.

We regularly stay here when in the San Francisco Area. Great location in downtown Half Moon Bay. The Zaballa House no longer does Breakfast, but there are a lot of breakfast choices within walking distance. Our rooms have always been large - but this time we had a suite with a large living room which we loved. The funkiness is the condition of the place - such as a Spa Bathtub that no longer functions as a Spa. Also - no front desk service - just a phone number for emergencies. We like the Zaballa House and will return.

I paid like $250 for the night which was $100 too much. I wouldn't stay again. Check-in was just an envelope addressed to me left outside with a card key inside, otherwise completely unattended. The fireplace didn't work. It was loud, cold. The only redeeming quality is the location on Main Street.

Hotel description misleading and inaccurate. In particular, this B&B advertised free breakfast included. NOT true. No breakfast available. No staff available at all! Advertised a/c non existent. Fireplace non functional. Simple amenity such as bathroom tissue non existent.
