Roamer St Kilda

We arrived at around 10.00pm, and the front door was locked. We knocked on several occasions and after about 10 minutes someone opened the door for us. We then registered with the receptionist and received a key. Walking along the hallway there were 3 or 4 laundry bags strewn on the floor outside our room. When we entered the room the carpet had not been vacuumed with various residual grime. The room was nothing like the image we has seen on the website. There was one cheap metal shelving unit, and no wardrobes, or places to store suitcases. The bathroom was clean, with a good shower, but was very small with one tiny basin. The bed was comfortable, but once we turned off the light, every few minutes there was a blinding flash above us, which went all night, and we assume was a smoke detector that needed new batteries, but the ceiling was too high to reach to remove the detector, so we had a very poor sleep. The receptionist had advised that there was little if any parking nearby, and I eventually found a park that meant I had to walk next to a very dark park, and it took 20 minutes of fast walking to return to the venue. In the morning we checked out, explaining to the receptionist that we wanted to be reimbursed for the 3 nights we were not staying for, and we were told to contact Expedia as the manager was not on site and Expedia would have to refund us. (This is apparently incorrect, as Expedia are now trying to make contact with Selina to obtain that refund for us).

It's a small apartment, no lift, own luggage. Every time through the public toilet there is a smell out, no one cleans the room every day, may be waiting for the check-out to come. When I checked in, the room was clean and tidy, the staff was kind and safe. The transportation is very convenient, and it is easy to get to the beach and downtown.

Clean, pleasant, late night check in assistance, bathroom supplied with shampoo and conditioner, all great. The pre-paid brekky was just a voucher to the cafe next door so i didn’t need to pay more for that.

Friendly vibes with staff, appreciate the complimentary drink and built-in stuff. Kinda bummer to have only stairs up to 2 floors, but really nice vintage place to live in

Little gem of a property within walking distance of all the bars and restaurants in downtown St Kilda as well as 2 min to the tram stop. So quiet inside and a great breakfast and coffee available in the cafe. Very reasonably priced for this location

It was great. Parking was a bit of a challenge... OK if you don't mind a walk.

It was a pleasant stay. Conveniently located around a bunch of nice places to eat and see. Just prepare yourself for the following.. there is no escalator so be prepared to carry your luggage up 4 sets of stairs.. I got my workout in.. Standard private rooms does not have a television.. There no wash cloths so make sure to have your own or you can just purchase one like I did. I survived with my laptop watching Netflix which was the only streaming service I could get. If it is not an internationally service you will not be able to stream it. You are truly servicing yourself. You can ask the front for assistance, but its only but so much they can do. If you are looking for room service or anything like this.. this is not the place for you. The rooms are just like the pictures. Very nice atmosphere and friendly people. Do not arrive in the middle of the night.. no overnight service so make sure your international calling service work and you let the hotel know you are arriving late. Overall its a comfortable stay. I just got a little caught off guard by the things I mentioned, but I was able to tough it out! I am an American citizen and this was my first international stay.. thought I should mentioned this as well.. and make sure to have a International plug for your electronics or you will have to get one😉

Booked a room with two double beds, had two singles. The fridge had take away container with mouldy food in it which clearly been there for some time. put that in the hall, informed the desk at 9pm was still there at 11am the next day. Hotel prices for a backpackers.

Hostel seemed pretty run down with windows cracked/broken, water damage in the walls and ceilings of the bathrooms, holes in the walls and cramped quarters. It was pretty walkable to dining and transient options in St. Kilda but that was the only saving grace.

Bathrooms/showers are awkward and in need of renovation. Dorm rooms are nice, but there seemed to be far more inconsiderate guests here than other hostels I’ve stayed at. A dorm mate brought someone home from the bar…….. plenty of nights people came back after midnight slamming things around. The electrical plug by my bed chirped constantly as well. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Nice character. Warm, cosy & clean

Bathrooms/showers are awkward and in need of renovation. Dorm rooms are nice, but there seemed to be far more inconsiderate guests here than other hostels I’ve stayed at. A dorm mate brought someone home from the bar…….. plenty of nights people came back after midnight slamming things around. The electrical plug by my bed chirped constantly as well. Only compliant is the KAYO app wasn’t working. Staff looked at it but no luck

The young lady on reception was wonderful, bar staff very friendly and the community spirit was genuine. Location is great - definitely coming back - room was excellent value for money and very comfortable.

Great to stay at! Would recommend downloading the Selina App before hand and having the booking code ready to go (found in your email or account of whatever site you booked with). I didn’t realise I would have to have these things ready so we had to sit and figure it out for about 10 minutes just to get in. Overall great experience, instructions could have been clearer :)

The Roamer is perfect for travelers looking for community in a foreign place. With plenty to do and a great location, it's hard to find a reason not to stay here. Can't wait to come back!
