The staff was courteous and helpful. Their service was superb and friendly. Once we asked for extra towels and we forgot to disable the do-not-disturb switch. Then I suddenly realized that and looked out the peek hole, and was astonished to find the room service staff standing patiently waiting for me. I was very apologetic and very grateful for their dedication. The view from our room was excellent. The only setback from our experience was the parking: (1) we had to go to the reception to validate the parking pass every time we were leaving the parking garage. Sometimes there was a line at the reception and we had to wait for other guests to check in to the hotel before the staff could validate our parking pass. That wasn't a good way to get out of the garage, and a problem if you are on a time crunch. (2) If you park in the multistorey garage instead of the basement, you will have to drive up the multilevel spiral ramp untill you get to the top floor to park. You just go round and round nonstop until you reach the top. The spiral ramp is not very wide so we were worried about scratching our vehicle going up or down the ramp. In general, it was a pretty good hotel and we appreciated the space in our room and the washer/dryer that were inside the room. We would stay here again despite the parking inconvenience that was described above.

Nearly a 2 week stay at Ascott Gurney. A lovely hotel with great facilities. Rooms were spacious and clean.. Lovely downstairs bar / reception area. Swimming pool area was great.. separate covered pool area for children to use..gym well equipped and with good air con. Location of the hotel is really good. You can walk into George Town if you want (approx 40 minutes) or take a taxi which won't cost a lot. Opposite the hotel is a recently completed park / walking area, very pleasant. Shopping malls and food options within easy walking distance of the hotel, all on Gurney Drive. Staff on the whole were excellent. Special mention to staff member Nicholas, whose demeanour and attitude towards helping guests was first class. Only used the cafe / restaurant once but the food was of a good standard.. Would definitely look to stay again on my next trip to Penang.

This is the 3rd we are staying at the Ascott Gurney Penang. We have always liked the amenities of the Ascott, especially the in-room washer/dryer and spacious rooms. The cost to stay at this hotel is very expensive. I wish the price can be further improved, or allow us to earn points while paying so much money to stay here so that we can save money in our future stays. I have joined the Ascott Rewards program but the hotel staff refused to let me bank our points because we did not directly book our stay with the hotel website. That is a pity considering this is our 3rd stay and each time we stay for a week or so. Parking continues to be another discontent where the need to validate our parking ticket each time we leave the hotel, is not a good use of our time. We sometimes have to wait for the receptionists to attend to guest check-ins before they can validate our parking ticket (which only takes a few seconds). On the last night of our stay, the parking facility in the basement (where we usually park our vehicle) was not functioning so they shut down the basement parking. In refusal to drive up the spiral driveway up to the high-floor parking ramp, we have to pay RM50 to pay for valet parking at the front of the hotel. That was our biggest complaint for this stay.

Overall this hotel was amazing, the views were breathtaking, it was extremely clean and had lots of facilities. The people that work there were always polite and apart from one instance extremely attentive. The only two negatives I would mention is, for such a big hotel there are only 3 check in/enquiry desks and generally just two staff on them meaning you often have to wait a good few minutes if you needed anything from them. The second was the restaurant. On the first night I had an absolutely lovely steak, I enjoyed it that much I decided to have a meal there the next night. This time I ordered the lamb shank. The issue was it didn’t come as described on the menu, it came with mash instead of rissole potatoes as specified. The lamb shank was embedded in the mash and I really don’t like mask. I waiting to see the waiter again but didn’t. I ended up just eating the lamb on top after waiting a good while. The waiter didn’t check on me at all even though I was literally the only person in the restaurant and I mean only person. By the time I did see him and call him over to get the bill it was a good 20 minutes later, meal hardly touched (see picture). At that point I wasn’t hungry anymore so didn’t raise it and he didn’t ask me how my meal was even though it was hardly toughed. The hotel is also in a lovely location with lots of amenities close

Great hotel! Grand and inviting lobby. The doorman was really friendly as were check in staff. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The bed was comfy and the linen clean. The pool was very nice with great lookout especially during sunset. We enjoyed the breakfast with a good variety and tasty dishes, it was nicely laid out. They have coin laundry (purchase token at reception) which was very handy for us. Location was OK, we mostly caught grab to places so was fine.

Very confortable atmosphere around the entire hotel The infinity pool and gym was clean and well kept The breakfast buffet was amazing. Not the closest to Gurney Plaza but still easily reachable by Grab or 20 minutes walk. Front lobby has music Performance Friday and Saturday evening during our stay. Hotel entrance to a small indoor mall located next door.

Clean modern hotel with efficient and helpful staff. Hotel facilities were really good. The free shuttle to the night market was also a bonus. Well positioned for access to George Town by cab but far enough out to feel calmer and more relaxed. Good eateries within walking distance.

The hotel is located along the prettiest coast. The huge park is just 1 minute across the hotel. Really! There’s a playground, skater park and lanes for running/ scooter. The hotel is very pretty, rooms are clean and quiet. Nicely renovated. Our suite comes with a living room, 6seater dining table and a side kitchen. Really friendly for families. My girl enjoyed her stay so much! The plus point is the pool, the kids pool comes with 2 slides and shower “mushrooms”. It is so fun!

The room was extremely spacious and spotlessly clean. Having a washing machine in the room was a great convenience. The location was excellent, making it easy to explore the area. I do wish there had been a bit more variety in the breakfast selection, but overall, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely visit again

Our room had a great view, was spacious and incredibly clean. The filtered water tap was a nice touch and the pool and gym facilities were immaculate.

Great hotel! Grand and inviting lobby. The doorman was really friendly as were check in staff. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The bed was comfy and the linen clean. The pool was very nice with great lookout especially during sunset. We enjoyed the breakfast with a good variety and tasty dishes, it was nicely laid out. They have coin laundry (purchase token at reception) which was very handy for us. Location was OK, we mostly caught grab to places so was fine.

The staff are friendly and helpfull. A special commendation to Khoo Min Jie for his outstanding services, he checked us in, gave us information brochures and other information about places to dine, and notify us when the room was ready. Most of all he went out of his way to help us when we contacted him even though he was already on leave.He presented Ascott well with his service and made us enjoyed our stay.

The staff was courteous and helpful. Their service was superb and friendly. Once we asked for extra towels and we forgot to disable the do-not-disturb switch. Then I suddenly realized that and looked out the peek hole, and was astonished to find the room service staff standing patiently waiting for me. I was very apologetic and very grateful for their dedication. The view from our room was excellent. The only setback from our experience was the parking: (1) we had to go to the reception to validate the parking pass every time we were leaving the parking garage. Sometimes there was a line at the reception and we had to wait for other guests to check in to the hotel before the staff could validate our parking pass. That wasn't a good way to get out of the garage, and a problem if you are on a time crunch. (2) If you park in the multistorey garage instead of the basement, you will have to drive up the multilevel spiral ramp untill you get to the top floor to park. You just go round and round nonstop until you reach the top. The spiral ramp is not very wide so we were worried about scratching our vehicle going up or down the ramp. In general, it was a pretty good hotel and we appreciated the space in our room and the washer/dryer that were inside the room. We would stay here again despite the parking inconvenience that was described above.

This is the 3rd we are staying at the Ascott Gurney Penang. We have always liked the amenities of the Ascott, especially the in-room washer/dryer and spacious rooms. The cost to stay at this hotel is very expensive. I wish the price can be further improved, or allow us to earn points while paying so much money to stay here so that we can save money in our future stays. I have joined the Ascott Rewards program but the hotel staff refused to let me bank our points because we did not directly book our stay with the hotel website. That is a pity considering this is our 3rd stay and each time we stay for a week or so. Parking continues to be another discontent where the need to validate our parking ticket each time we leave the hotel, is not a good use of our time. We sometimes have to wait for the receptionists to attend to guest check-ins before they can validate our parking ticket (which only takes a few seconds). On the last night of our stay, the parking facility in the basement (where we usually park our vehicle) was not functioning so they shut down the basement parking. In refusal to drive up the spiral driveway up to the high-floor parking ramp, we have to pay RM50 to pay for valet parking at the front of the hotel. That was our biggest complaint for this stay.

Overall this hotel was amazing, the views were breathtaking, it was extremely clean and had lots of facilities. The people that work there were always polite and apart from one instance extremely attentive. The only two negatives I would mention is, for such a big hotel there are only 3 check in/enquiry desks and generally just two staff on them meaning you often have to wait a good few minutes if you needed anything from them. The second was the restaurant. On the first night I had an absolutely lovely steak, I enjoyed it that much I decided to have a meal there the next night. This time I ordered the lamb shank. The issue was it didn’t come as described on the menu, it came with mash instead of rissole potatoes as specified. The lamb shank was embedded in the mash and I really don’t like mask. I waiting to see the waiter again but didn’t. I ended up just eating the lamb on top after waiting a good while. The waiter didn’t check on me at all even though I was literally the only person in the restaurant and I mean only person. By the time I did see him and call him over to get the bill it was a good 20 minutes later, meal hardly touched (see picture). At that point I wasn’t hungry anymore so didn’t raise it and he didn’t ask me how my meal was even though it was hardly toughed. The hotel is also in a lovely location with lots of amenities close

Very confortable atmosphere around the entire hotel The infinity pool and gym was clean and well kept The breakfast buffet was amazing. Hotel staff could do with more training in being able to answer questions clearly, providing better service, and more attentive to guests' needs. All good.... but also suffers the same problems as in many other hotels. Can they manage the queue better for the eggs station during morning buffet breakfast. As it is open, guests tend not to queue or know if there is the line. And the poor chef is taking orders from left and right and can be annoying if the chef starts taking orders from others instead of the guests who have been quietly queueing up....

Overall this hotel was amazing, the views were breathtaking, it was extremely clean and had lots of facilities. The people that work there were always polite and apart from one instance extremely attentive. The only two negatives I would mention is, for such a big hotel there are only 3 check in/enquiry desks and generally just two staff on them meaning you often have to wait a good few minutes if you needed anything from them. The second was the restaurant. On the first night I had an absolutely lovely steak, I enjoyed it that much I decided to have a meal there the next night. This time I ordered the lamb shank. The issue was it didn’t come as described on the menu, it came with mash instead of rissole potatoes as specified. The lamb shank was embedded in the mash and I really don’t like mask. I waiting to see the waiter again but didn’t. I ended up just eating the lamb on top after waiting a good while. The waiter didn’t check on me at all even though I was literally the only person in the restaurant and I mean only person. By the time I did see him and call him over to get the bill it was a good 20 minutes later, meal hardly touched (see picture). Great hotel! Grand and inviting lobby. The doorman was really friendly as were check in staff. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The bed was comfy and the linen clean. The pool was very nice with great lookout especially during sunset. We enjoyed the breakfast with a good variety and tasty dishes, it was nicely laid out. They have coin laundry (purchase token at reception) which was very handy for us. Location was OK, we mostly caught grab to places so was fine.

Very confortable atmosphere around the entire hotel The infinity pool and gym was clean and well kept The breakfast buffet was amazing. We had a very pleasant stay overall. For a refurbished property, the room was impressively clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The views were beautiful too—whether facing the city or the sea, both offered a lovely backdrop to our stay. The staff throughout the hotel were warm, helpful, and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Their hospitality was genuinely appreciated. We slept very well for most of our stay. However, on our final night, there were recurring loud sounds coming from the water piping system between approximately 1am and 3am. I’m not certain of the cause, but it was noticeable enough to disrupt our sleep. It may be worth having the piping checked. The pool area was pleasant and enjoyable. One small suggestion would be to have staff make occasional rounds to monitor tidiness and safety around the pool. There were quite a few crows around during our visit, and they seemed rather interested in guests’ belongings left on the sunbeds. Breakfast was another highlight—generous in variety and well-prepared. I would happily recommend it, especially for guests looking to avoid the more tourist-oriented prices around the Gurney Drive area while still enjoying a satisfying meal. Overall, it was a great stay with excellent value, comfortable accommodations, and wonderful service. With a little attention to the unusual water piping noise, the experience would have been even better.
