Buenisimo. Excelente servicio y trato del personal. Habitaciones grandes y limpias. Cama muy còmoda. Desayuno variado y muy rico. Piscina muy agradable con un nivel adecuado. Playa cercana con un mar tranquilo y muy agradable para bañarse

Nice property with friendly staff and excellent pool. We were not affected on the north side of the first floor but could see how some rooms on the 2nd floor on the south side could be bothered by road noise.

Was a little worried at first that the hotel is a few km away from Samara town, but ended up being very happy the property is walking distance to two incredible beaches, Samara and Carrillo. Terrific staff, good food, spacious room, nice pool area. Only 17 rooms so quiet, intimate environment. Met and enjoyed company with several of the other guests.

The property is clean and very quiet. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The manager Luis, was a pleasure to talk with. Good breakfast, pool was a good option when we got tired of the ocean.

This place was amazing from the second we arrived. Staff person checking us in was polite, accommodating and made you feel like you were best friends. Because it’s a smaller hotel, we got to know all of the staff and they couldn’t have been nicer people! On site parking was easy. Location was quiet except for some road noise. Walking to Playa Samara beach was convenient and took less than 10 minutes down a dirt road. Room was large with a separate foyer area that had a sink and mini fridge. Pool is nice. Breakfast was good as were the drinks. We did not eat lunch or dinner so can’t comment on that. Three minute drive to Playa Carrillo - which is an amazing beach. Seven minute drive to downtown Samara. Nothing negative to say about this place - check it out!

The hotel was beautiful and very relaxing. The staff were extremely helpful and our check in and early arrival was accommodated with a relaxing drink by the pool and a swim in the wonderful pool. The Hotel grounds are beautiful.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Montelaguna and I absolutely hope to return. The property was very charming and well decorated with a relaxed atmosphere and all the conveniences we would want. The meals were so good that we rarely ate anywhere else -- well prepared and reasonably priced. The staff were ALWAYS pleasant and helpful. They made a great mojito. The pool was great to cool down on a hot day. The only hiccup we ran into was that it took about a day to figure out the quickest way to walk to the beach. But once we figured it out, the location was PERFECT because it was peaceful and just a little bit off the grid, but with easy access to the touristy town of Samara Beach (which was also kind of cool in its own way.) And the staff calls taxis for you at any time of day or night. So, for what I like (charm, quiet, good food, nice people, reasonable prices, proximity to a gorgeous and largely unspoiled beach), this property gets five stars in my book.

This is a decent option for staying in/near Samara. Bear in mind it is a five-six minute drive to town/main beach stretch. The staff were excellent, particularly Loydes, who was so genuine and helpful. The pool is great for kids. Bathroom was a bit dated and moldy unfortunately. Included breakfast was nice and appreciated.

This was our second stay at this hotel and it was just as we remembered. Friendly, helpful staff. Walking distance to two beautiful beaches and a quiet, peaceful setting. The rooms are large but sparse. The staff was prompt in getting whatever we requested. They even made decaf coffee especially for me in the mornings! The only thing I could say for me personally and maybe for others is the cleaner used to wash the floors in the rooms was too strongly scented and lingered in the room. We will definitely be returning for another wonderful stay. Thank you

Un excelente hotel, la atención fue muy buena, el personal muy atento y respetuoso, me sentí tan bien que quería quedarme mas tiempo. Se los recomiendo, la ubicación que tiene es muy buena ya que esta a pocos minutos de playa Samara y de playa Carrillo. La limpieza y comodidad de las habitaciones es perfecta.

Pros: habitaciones del hotel, tamaño, limpieza. Buen desayuno en cantidad (mismo menú todos los días). Servicio adecuado más no excelente del staff. Contras: pocas opciones de alimentación dentro del hotel (menú limitado a menos de 20 opciones y, no siempre hubo disponibilidad de lo que se ofrecía en el menú). Estuvimos por 4 días y, sencillamente tuvimos que ir al centro de Sámara a comer en algunas oportunidades ya que no había disponibilidad de algunas opciones o simplemente para no comer lo mismo. Los jardines les falta mantenimiento.

We killed about 60 ants in the room and there was a lizard to. There was two wasp nest on the balcony. We could not change the beach towels for our 5 days stay. We had to reserve at the restaurant because if we do not they do not call the chef to make the food. We had the family loft.

Montelaguna was a really perfect stay for us in the Samara area. It was perfectly situated between Playa Carrillo and Playa Samara so we were able to enjoy both beaches easily. The staff were always ready and kindly booked tours, accommodated special requests and were just a pleasure to deal with day to day. The housekeeping was prompt and thorough as well. We would stay here again no question.

El hotel esta bien ubicado cerca de la playa. Nos toco una habitacion linda y se podian oir los monos de los alrededores. Estupendo! Luis nos atendio increiblemente. Fue super servicial y nos aconsejo muy bien donde ir a cenar, playas y etc . Estuvimos solo 1 noche pero sin duda volveriamos.

Extremely comfortable mattress. Large room. Nice shower with good water pressure. Nice balcony. Restaurant is a bit expensive, but the food is good. The included breakfast is not good. There should be more options. Cleanliness is ok. Staff is ok. Proximity to Playa Carrillo and Playa Sámara is great. You need to have a car to find some other restaurants, because there’s nothing around. The hotel is very close to the road. You can hear the motorcycles constantly. There were A LOT of children at the hotel. A. LOT. With all the noise and mess children bring in a Boutique Hotel….running in the corridors at 6:30 am, screaming in the pool, etc.

The place would deserve higher rating since the staff was amazing and super helpful, room was nice and bed comfortable. But the bar / restaurant had music on from early morning to late night which was disturbing as our window faced that side. Also A/C from next door room was super loud in the night and the sound did carry through the wall. We could hear the traffic from the road too. We booked room with balcony or patio but we had only window. Other than that it is a lovely convenient intimate secluded hotel with great location for easy access to beaches and restaurants. Beach towels on demand. They helped us to find sunset boat tour too.

Sehr geräumiges Zimmer mit Kühlschrank. Gutes Bett und gute Klimaanlage. Personal sehr nett. Frühstück gut wenn man zeitig dran ist - wird nicht mehr aufgefüllt. Restaurantpreise deutlich über Landesdurchschnitt aber gut. Würden hier nocheinmal buchen.

This place was amazing from the second we arrived. Staff person checking us in was polite, accommodating and made you feel like you were best friends. Because it’s a smaller hotel, we got to know all of the staff and they couldn’t have been nicer people! On site parking was easy. Location was quiet except for some road noise. Walking to Playa Samara beach was convenient and took less than 10 minutes down a dirt road. Room was large with a separate foyer area that had a sink and mini fridge. Pool is nice. Breakfast was good as were the drinks. We did not eat lunch or dinner so can’t comment on that. Three minute drive to Playa Carrillo - which is an amazing beach. Seven minute drive to downtown Samara. Nothing negative to say about this place - check it out!

Unfreundlicher Empfang: War etwa so wie beim Eintritt in den Militärdienst, viele Regel und Verbote. Unfreundlicher Service beim unterklassigen Frühstück. Gibt eine Rüge, wenn man den Speck nicht ist, bei uns und auch am Nachbartisch. Servicezeiten und Angebot an der Bar ungenügend. Alles wurde von lediglich zwei Personen gemanagt, die definitiv im falschen Job arbeiten. Ganzes Ambiente wirkte tot und lieblos. Lediglich Reinigungspersonal war fröhlich und freundlich. Zimmer groß und sauber. Distanz zum Strand nur theoretisch korrekt angegeben. Gefährliche Straße bis zum Sand, dann nochmal 20 Minuten bis zu den ersten Schattenplätzen.

Very small hotel, one pool, room was nice but overall disappointed for a few reasons. Hotel away from town, nothing close by to walk to in evening for entertainment or restaurants. When we arrived, we were told of the many adventures they offered. We saw a sign on the desk and could see it was for $40 massages. We inquired about having a massage but were told they no longer had a massage person but would call and see if one could be arranged. She took the sign and turned it over so we couldn't see it any longer. When we asked about the price she said it would be around $50-55. She also asked if we wanted it done at the hotel. After her call, she told us we would have to drive to the location and the price would be $80. Next, we booked a night outing to see turtles come up to lay eggs. Later was told the operator required a min. of 6 people to do the trip, so never happened. But the worse thing was the owner manager who was very controlling and condescending. The owner served our breakfast but right from the start, he basically lectured me on how not to raise the glass to be served juice. I did it to be helpful, but he was so condescending in his "how to do' lecture. That I finally said to him "if this was a fine dining experience, I would not have touched the glass". He was real off putting and insulting. Very controlling personality, we had a few other things happen which I can't explain bec. of limited space allowed. Not recommend!

I stayed at this property in November 2024. Mario, the owner is friendly and accommodating. All the staff were beyond amazing. Cute little boutique hotel. Loved it. Can’t say anything negative about it.

The property is clean and very quiet. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The manager Luis, was a pleasure to talk with. Good breakfast, pool was a good option when we got tired of the ocean.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Montelaguna and I absolutely hope to return. The property was very charming and well decorated with a relaxed atmosphere and all the conveniences we would want. The meals were so good that we rarely ate anywhere else -- well prepared and reasonably priced. The staff were ALWAYS pleasant and helpful. They made a great mojito. The pool was great to cool down on a hot day. The only hiccup we ran into was that it took about a day to figure out the quickest way to walk to the beach. But once we figured it out, the location was PERFECT because it was peaceful and just a little bit off the grid, but with easy access to the touristy town of Samara Beach (which was also kind of cool in its own way.) And the staff calls taxis for you at any time of day or night. So, for what I like (charm, quiet, good food, nice people, reasonable prices, proximity to a gorgeous and largely unspoiled beach), this property gets five stars in my book.

Montelaguna was a really perfect stay for us in the Samara area. It was perfectly situated between Playa Carrillo and Playa Samara so we were able to enjoy both beaches easily. The staff were always ready and kindly booked tours, accommodated special requests and were just a pleasure to deal with day to day. The housekeeping was prompt and thorough as well. We would stay here again no question.

El hotel esta bien ubicado cerca de la playa. Nos toco una habitacion linda y se podian oir los monos de los alrededores. Estupendo! Luis nos atendio increiblemente. Fue super servicial y nos aconsejo muy bien donde ir a cenar, playas y etc . Estuvimos solo 1 noche pero sin duda volveriamos.

Extremely comfortable mattress. Large room. Nice shower with good water pressure. Nice balcony. Restaurant is a bit expensive, but the food is good. The included breakfast is not good. There should be more options. Cleanliness is ok. Staff is ok. Proximity to Playa Carrillo and Playa Sámara is great. You need to have a car to find some other restaurants, because there’s nothing around. The hotel is very close to the road. You can hear the motorcycles constantly. There were A LOT of children at the hotel. A. LOT. With all the noise and mess children bring in a Boutique Hotel….running in the corridors at 6:30 am, screaming in the pool, etc.

Was a little worried at first that the hotel is a few km away from Samara town, but ended up being very happy the property is walking distance to two incredible beaches, Samara and Carrillo. Terrific staff, good food, spacious room, nice pool area. Only 17 rooms so quiet, intimate environment. Met and enjoyed company with several of the other guests.

This is a decent option for staying in/near Samara. Bear in mind it is a five-six minute drive to town/main beach stretch. The staff were excellent, particularly Loydes, who was so genuine and helpful. The pool is great for kids. Bathroom was a bit dated and moldy unfortunately. Included breakfast was nice and appreciated.

Pros: habitaciones del hotel, tamaño, limpieza. Buen desayuno en cantidad (mismo menú todos los días). Servicio adecuado más no excelente del staff. Contras: pocas opciones de alimentación dentro del hotel (menú limitado a menos de 20 opciones y, no siempre hubo disponibilidad de lo que se ofrecía en el menú). Estuvimos por 4 días y, sencillamente tuvimos que ir al centro de Sámara a comer en algunas oportunidades ya que no había disponibilidad de algunas opciones o simplemente para no comer lo mismo. Los jardines les falta mantenimiento.

Sehr geräumiges Zimmer mit Kühlschrank. Gutes Bett und gute Klimaanlage. Personal sehr nett. Frühstück gut wenn man zeitig dran ist - wird nicht mehr aufgefüllt. Restaurantpreise deutlich über Landesdurchschnitt aber gut. Würden hier nocheinmal buchen.

This place was amazing from the second we arrived. Staff person checking us in was polite, accommodating and made you feel like you were best friends. Because it’s a smaller hotel, we got to know all of the staff and they couldn’t have been nicer people! On site parking was easy. Location was quiet except for some road noise. Walking to Playa Samara beach was convenient and took less than 10 minutes down a dirt road. Room was large with a separate foyer area that had a sink and mini fridge. Pool is nice. Breakfast was good as were the drinks. We did not eat lunch or dinner so can’t comment on that. Three minute drive to Playa Carrillo - which is an amazing beach. Seven minute drive to downtown Samara. Nothing negative to say about this place - check it out!

There is a lot to share about our experience. Our family of four booked this hotel for three nights to relax after some earlier adventures. Unfortunately we got some pretty terrible weather. We were the only ones staying on the property for the majority of our stay. In the high season they have a guard station and a restaurant. In the low season they are not fully staffed. They gave us a lovely room and the staff we met were kind and friendly. They provided breakfast daily. The pool was stunning. If we had better weather it could have been a wonderful trip. On the last day of our stay a tropical depression hit and it rained and stormed so hard that the hotel lost power at around 3pm. We knew that meant no electricity, no ac, no WiFi and also no water. That is very scary when you are traveling in an unfamiliar area. That evening at 6 pm we started to really worry and found a small corner grocery store where the owner walked us through the store with a flashlight. The hotel staff left. No one checked on us. No one offered us water, flashlights or candles. The power was out until 9 am the next day. Our safety was never a concern or consideration. It’s very strange to be the only people at a hotel and even stranger to have no one on staff. We reached out requesting a refund and were denied. No apology was given and no one tried to make this right. We did not get what we paid for. This was a very unique circumstance, but it wasn’t handled appropriately.

This was the best hotel we stayed at in all of Costa Rica! Absolutely gorgeous property, beautiful pool, clean rooms, the most comfortable beds, and wonderful made to order breakfast. Geraldine, the breakfast waitress is a delight! She's so funny and personable despite the language barrier. We traveled with our 3 year old and we were delighted to find toys and children's books in the lovely sitting area. Such a big help for parents! I'm so happy we stayed here!
