The Hill Guesthouse

We had a room in the guesthouse which looked cute first, but we were not allowed to use the hot tub, which apparently was only for the Hotel Hill Guests, although in our booking it said hot tubs available. They told us about 2 dinner options, either at their hotel or next door of the guesthouse a more simple nice looking pub style restaurant. When we went it was closed and the reception did not know about it although this pub belongs to the hotel as well. We had dinner at the hill restaurant where my wife got cold mashed potatoes and the second try was not warm either. The worst thing that happened was a smell when we came back to the guesthouse. It was very cold but they offered a small heater in the room. We plugged it in in the bedroom and suddenly after 5min, smoke came out of the socket in the bathroom and we left the house. The reception only said, you might plugged in too many devices which was not the case, just the little heater. They offered us a room in the hotel but we saw other guests from the guesthouse leaving it as well because of the smell of the smoke and no fire alarm protection in their rooms. We would not go back. Irresponsible especially towards that family that was there with little kids.

Beware - The property is NOT located in the middle of woods to see the northern lights. It sits at the cross roads in town next to a mini mart. Next! Is the property advertises like it has a hot springs on the property. Secret Hot Springs is about 5 minutes away by car but NOT located on site - False Advertising plus the VIP is worthless everyone gets the same deal.

The rooms we clean and efficient but they include the bare minimum in the way of amenities. Instant coffee, a poor tea selection, no refrigerator, thin towels, etc.. For $250 I hoped for more. The good is that it was quiet and we could park the car right outside of the room for easy unloading.

Comfortable stay, easy parking, good breakfast, close to the secret lagoon. We saw the northern light during our stay.

Ok place. Clean and in good repair. Nice view. Average food. The main picture in the hotel information is misleading in my opinion. The hot pool doesn't belong to the hotel and is just a separate business about 20min walk.

There was no WiFi, no hot water, and no access to the pools as the description stated. They also provided incorrect information on check-in and gave us the wrong room key. We were only staying to sleep/leave in the AM and so would have rated higher if there was hot water for the shower as all we wanted was a shower and a place to sleep. My sister stayed in another room and had the same issues with lack of hot water.

Fraudulent alert! I’ve never left a review before. Essentially the listing is a marketing ploy and there was zero hospitality. Be warned - There is no pool at this hotel. In spite of the click bait fraud which has the first picture featured on this site for the property with a hot spring pool which does not exist at the hotel. This should not be allowed as it’s beyond misleading. There are however small hot tubs but these are for the exclusive use of the cabin guests not the hotel guests - which the receptionist quickly and harshly advised at checkin. The entire staff was rude to the point of being disrespectful during both check-in and at the restaurant. Pass on this one.

Staff are friendly, plenty of parking, close to the Secret Lagoon.

Firstly it was not clear explanation where is the reception. Looking for it when the temperature is -12 not the best experience. In the room sheets were dirty, next day we can open the door because of snow and then lock it. Finally we’ve got a new room that was good. From good side is the restaurant. Food and service were great.

Die Mitarbeiter war sehr freundlich und das Frühstück war auch gut. Das Guesthouse mit geteiltem Bad/WC ist allerdings absolut nicht empfehlenswert. Das Ganze Haus ist dringend sanierungsbedürftig. Alle Möbel und vor allem der Boden sind sehr stark abgenutzt und in die Jahre gekommen. Gleiches gilt für die Bäder. Auch gab es bei keinem Waschbecken Seife bzw. war diese überall leer.

excellent location on the golden circle, restaurant available on site for breakfast and dinner, good value for money, regular continental breakfast couple of points for improvement - in the rooms, when one room uses the washbasin, there's a loud noise through the pipies in the adjoining rooms; cleaning can be improved to ensure at least the shared ones are cleant everyday

Great location for all the sights of the Golden Circle with the Secret Lagoon practically on the doorstep. The room was spotless and spacious with the added bonus of a balcony overlooking a flowing river and fantastic views to the hills beyond. Beds were super comfy, and facilities were good including breakfast. Can't recommend this place enough.

The property was worn on the outlook, seems being deserted for a long time. There was no hot water in the room and there was no heater in the communal washroom and communal shower! There was no shampoo and shower gel provided in the shower. There was no hairdryer in the room, not to mention any lotions or cups for brushing teeth!! The bedding seemed soiled and not changed for a long time , and have some hair on the bedsheet! This is a properly not suitable to be rented out! It should rather be demolished or totally renovated before any more bookings made!

Netjes en schoon

Check in und (tolles) Frühstück' im Hotel über die Strasse. Zimmer hat alles geboten, war sauber und vom Balkon sieht man auf den kleinen Fluss. Zur Secret Lagoon sind es 800 m. Gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis. Jederzeit wieder.

J’avais réservé 2 nuits Avant le séjour , j’ai appris que ma réservation avait été annulée ! j’ai réservé à nouveau chambre avec salle de bain privative 320 euros ( plus cher que la précédente réservation) lorsque je suis arrivée , la réception était fermée , des sacs poubelles éventés devant la porte , un mot pour informer qu’il fallait s’adresser dans un autre hôtel de l’autre côté de la route La chambre qui m’a été attribuée donnait sur un terre plein de gravier , aucune vue , aucune intimité puisque la porte vitrée donnait directement sur le parking obligeant à garder les rideaux fermés en permanence ;La tringle était cassée et le rideau ne fermait pas complètement , les quelques touristes occupant ce même bâtiment côté parking pouvaient me voir jour et nuit ! toilettes sales , lits sales , linge de toilette élimé , murs couverts de traces sales . le lendemain , lorsque je suis retournée pour protester à la réception, c’était toujours fermé! L’hôtel de l’autre côté de la route m’a informé qu’il s’agisssait du même établissement! La réceptionniste m’a changé de chambre lorsque je lui ai décrit l’état de la chambre ( dont elle devait avoir connaissance déjà la veille ! ) a noter que le ménage n’avait pas été fait du tout entre les 2 nuits ( je rappelle sue j’ai payé 320 euros) J’ai demandé à profiter du Spa de l’hôtel (Secret Lagon était fermé lorsque je m’y suis rendue !)la réceptionniste a refusé car entrée réservée aux seuls clients de l’hôtel

Check-in was fine, it’s at The Hill hotel across the street. The room itself is very basic. No tv, no microwave, no mini fridge. Just a bed, couch and bathroom. Bed was comfortable. There isn’t a sidewalk leading into the door, you have to wheel any suitcases over gravel. Extra charge for breakfast, 3400 ISK per person. Dinner is also very pricey. We ended up getting takeout pizza from Mika Restaurant in a nearby city, which was very good. The hotel was fine for a quick stop on our way to the next thing, but don’t come if you’re looking for amenities.

We learned from others then passed on the information to others who were wondering about baffled by the missing registration office. It’s a nice place and close to the secret lagoon.

The rooms are clean etc. However, nobody tells you that check in is at the property across the street "The Hill", also the window curtains are very thin, so with now a lot of day light, not possible to get it dark in the bight in your room; the Wifi was broken, and there was no compensation for that.

Great view's from our room. Very peaceful and quiet, exactly what we hoped for.

It was a decent little cabin. Windows were well-insulated. Seemed a tad unfinished. Very IKEA. Shower didn’t get hot no matter what way I turned the dial. At the main hotel the receptionist was incredibly helpful while I dealt with a medical situation that came up - called around to docs, etc.

The property manager is very very rude. She does not understand the basic concept of the client is always right. We had an issue that was not solved properly. They do not have enough pillows and denied the use of it same for towels. Breakfast was very basic and bad. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The person at check in and breakfast could not have been more unfriendly if she tried. I did not feel like a paying customer. She made me feel as if I was an inconvenience to her day.

I’m giving this place a bad review, but I expect it will get much better soon because I understand it’s under new ownership. Check in was bad. GPS brought us to the back of a building in a neighborhood. No signage, no parking. I walked around the place to find no doors unlocked, just a sign fluttering in the wind that lunch was to be served across the street at a place called “the Hill”. I went across the road to The Hill in the hopes they could connect me to the proprietors at Guesthouse Fludir, and was greeted warmly and much to my surprise was checked into Guesthouse Fludir. Turns out check in was supposed to be at The Hill - I learned later that the confirmation email did say as much, but I’m not sure I read it in full right after booking, and that was the last communication I got from the owners about our booking. Once we navigated the clunky check-in, we settled into our family room which was small, way over-heated (only window is in the bathroom), and weirdly laid out (eg- light switch is all the way on the other side of the room from the entrance, toilet is pretty much in the shower). However, the restaurant at The Hill and all our contact there was excellent. It is my understanding that the owners of The Hill recently purchased Guesthouse Fludir, so I expect things will get much better. If they bring the guesthouse up to the standards of The Hill you’ll be in a good place.

The folks at Guesthouse Fludir also fun the hotel across the road. They have a really good restaurant, and they are very helpful. We had a booking mixup but they handled it all perfectly--no questions asked. Highly recommend them.

Beautiful stay and I definitely recommend staying here. It was not crowded or busy. Staff was helpful and accommodating. No issued checking in or out

Rooms are expensive around the Golden Circle and this proves value for money. The room was the nicest of the 4 we stayed at in Iceland. There were 2 bathrooms to 5 rooms so always vacant. Tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of cold options. The only disappointment was the restaurant was closed for renovations (this seemed to be where the breakfast was though and we didn’t see renovation work). There are only 2 restaurants in Fludir and 1 is Ethiopian and the other doesn’t have a menu online. So instead we used Mika Restaurant.

The check in area was not marked. It is across the street at another hotel. The heat was set very low as if they were not expecting guests and the room did not heat up until the next morning. We did not receive our Expedia perk. The hot water in the shower did not work. As a side note the area was well lit which made viewing the northern lights from the location impossible. Also this property recently was sold so there is no sign for the guesthouses.

While this stay is definitely cost effective and clean, we were disappointed with the service. Their restaurant (which is already very limited in size) was closed for a private event upon our arrival after a really long and cold day of travel. Due to the time and day there was only one other restaurant open which, due to some other factors, couldn\'t serve us for nearly 2 hours. There is also a lot of discrepancy between room sizes. My partner and I travelled with another couple and we both booked the same "double room". We both paid the same price and we got a very small room that was difficult to maneuver in while our travel partners had a room about double the size. Overall, the transparency and customer service of this stay was not a high point. If you\'re solely looking for budget, this is the place to go.

The room was excellent. Staff could be more welcoming and friendly and we were disappointed when the restaurant closed at very short notice so we were left with no option but to eat cold food from the local shop as there are few options in the town which would suit our budget and family tastes.
