Hotel Bedford

Had a good stay nice and central in town square. The hotel is dated. But understandable for it's time back in the day! Has an onsite bar and restaurant on premises.

In a nutshell. Older place, not very charming and in need of a redo. No elevator, so if you need one, look elsewhere. The room was small and worn out, but very functional. I would normally say why not: Cheap, great location and it works. THE reason I wouldn’t recommend or return, no sprinkler system or smoke/CO Detectors that I saw. Not sure what goes in Canada, but a no go for me. Not recommended out of safety concerns.

Parking Lot was well below average, in behind the hotel with the restaurant dumpsters.

Parking was very easy, staff was nice, the room was very clean and comfortable. I would stay at the Bedford again.

Liked the hotel did not like that it did not have an elevator

the only downside is that's there's no elevator getting to the 3rd flr with luggage is really a challenge .

Pos: Nice room, very quiet on third floor, fridge, nice free breakfast, located near coffee shops and a town square, beaches close by Neg: no elevator, no coffee/hot water machine, no ice, surrounded by construction. Would I return? As a senior probably not. If I were younger? Yes.

Lots of road closures and construction makes it very hard to enjoy. But hotel has parking outback. It’s outdated but clean. Rooms are nothing special as they’re all outdated and old. I’d stay here again because price was perfect. Didn’t deal with staff at all so not much to say there. Pub that’s inside is great. Live music at times as well. Great spot fur e joying the whole square but lots of fencing surrounding construction adds a few mins to walk or hard for people with mobility issues

While it is a heritage property, the carpet is dirty. There is no front desk, one has to go to the attached bar to check in, which was also understaffed. Advertised continental breakfast was still not available at 8:10 when it was supposed to open at 8:00. Bath towels were frayed. Tiles around the bath were cracked and had mold. Bath tub took a long time to drain after a shower.

We were very disappointed in our stay. We checked in later in the day (around 4:30/5:00 p.m.) and were instructed to go to the bar (Paddy O'Neal's) as no one is at the desk after 3:00 p.m. The bartender acted surprised that we were staying there (as if she didn't realize that there was a hotel attached). She had me sign a paper, handed me the key card, and that was it. She did not give me the room or floor number. There was no explanation of if/when/where breakfast was served. There was no mention of a wi-fi password, or when check out time is, or any amenities. Nothing. The bed had a dead bug in it. The sheets and towels were stained. The carpet, which appeared to be from about 1929, was stained. The bathroom was straight out of 1981. The TV did not work. The room had a view of a rooftop. (Read: no view). The room was perpetually stuffy, no matter how we adjusted the A/C. The toilet paper was single ply and did not last long. When I asked for more (again, at the bar), the bartender said: "I don't even know who you would talk to about that." He referred us to another bartender. When we asked her, she told us to ask him! Eventually, one roll (one) was brought up to the room. The noise from the band-either at the next-door pub or the downstairs bar-could be heard up in our room late into the night. No one who worked there was particularly friendly. I haven't stayed there in 40 years, and after this experience, I probably wouldn't stay there again.

This hotel was so disappointing. When I checked into our room, there was a half a glass of water left on the counter. There was no one at the front desk (the whole time we were there) so no one to complain to. The mould around the bathtub was disgusting-we didn't use the shower. There was construction around the whole hotel, so not able to eat outside on the patio. I wish we were warned about this. I would never recommend this hotel.

I will start by saying, I acknowledge this is a very old building. That does not however excuse the lack of cleanliness. Our pillow cases didn't look like they had been washed, so our girls decided to sleep over the bedding. The tub looked like it hadn't been cleaned with visable grime. The room's floor (all carpet) felt like it hadn't been vacuumed, and the dresser that enclosured the tv hasn't been dusted in a really, really long time. The continental breakfast had good variety, and the Dutchess room was nice sunroom surprise.

Pictures on Hotels.com are very misleading. The hotel is pretty rundown. Paint is chipped and peeling, carpets were not only worn and faded but dirty. Shower had moldy grout. Draperies were shabby and helter-skelter. Not at all a pleasant stay. Breakfast doesn’t start till nine so if you’re an early riser you’ve got a wait on your hands. I’ll pass on future stays.

This facility is quite old and in need of significant cleaning and upgrades. While I appreciate their effort to preserve the building’s heritage, the rooms and hotel are very badly maintained — Mold in the showers and it can be cleaned because I scrubbed it and my face cloth was black, the faucets were very dirty, the beds poorly made, and the carpets smelled unpleasant, stained and very dirty. Overall very very dirty. The carpets need to be replaced. When walking through the hallways they were not clean and a very musty smell through out the hotel. We dined at the restaurant; the food was decent, but the service was very slow.

The hotel needs a complete refresh. The carpets, curtains, chairs, bathtubs, walls, were stained. The bed, however, was clean and comfortable.

Shower sounded like a kettle. Cowebs and bathroom fan has inches of dust on it. I do not recommend. Will be staying somewhere else next time even though it was the cheapest in the area.

Black mould on bath tub grout is a deal breaker. That’s gotta go

Great location, right in the square but overall the hotel needs a lot of updating, they need to spend some money getting it to the 21st century. Bed was comfortable, room was small, it was also badly sloped, very noticeable incline when walking in the room, bizarre.No coffee machine, not good, no microwave, both these are standard even in the basic motels. The reception wasnt friendly at all, they ignored you which isnt what you expect when booking into or staying in a hotel, theres so much choice out there, they shouldnt be taking things for granted. Also the carpets in staircase and florros are filthy dirty.

Was NOT what we were expecting! Booked a king room and got queen beds. Carpet old and worn and not clean. Room slanted so badly we almost fell getting to the bathroom! No elevator for anyone who could not do the 2 flights of stairs. Very, very old and worn. Beds clean enough but rest of the room questionable for cleanliness. Yoel rack wax broken and missing. Staff not very friendly. Very minimal continental breakfast.

We picked this hotel for my birthday trip because it was cheap for high season (about $110 nightly) but the hotel is very old, needs updating severely, has no elevator and our room was on the third floor (huge staircase). There was no coffeemaker in the room and not much in the way of amenities so, I can't give much of a high number for the review. At least the Aircon was cold and the room was clean!

Room was small. Bed was good. Breakfast was adequate. Good location.

The room was in very poor shape. Dresser drawer was broken, lamp was ripped and there was obvious mildew and/or mould at the top of the shower. The ice machine in the hallway next door was extremely noisy throughout the night. There was no evening staff on duty (other than the bartender/waiter in the attached bar). Staff the next morning was very accommodating and moved us to a different room and gave a discount on our final bill for the first night. Certainly appreciated.

No one at the front desk. The guy at the bar was rude and the lady that checked us out didn’t even lift her head. We booked 5 nights, left after the first. The tub was so gross we wouldn’t even shower and we kept our shoes on because the floor in our room was that gross. Booked the king suite with fireplace, showed up, no fireplace

Hotel was very old and in need of updating. We stayed for 4 nights and did not receive room cleaning despite asking for it. Would not let us check in until exactly 3 pm.

Lots of construction going but hotel itself was good. I’ve been there several times when working in the area and will continue to come back. A nice restaurant connected to it. Staff are friendly. It’s clean and safe.

Terrible check-in experience, no one to be found for 10-15 mins, staff in front of me talking without acknowledging me, charged twice for the room, once by expedia and once directly from hotel, called the hotel to resolve and they told me that was not possible, waiting for manager to call back, several dead flys in room, staff knocked on door at 11:15 to hurry us along, check out advertised for 12:00

Clean room, friendly and efficient staff

Hotel is a bit dated, but I suppose that's part of its charm. Staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating.

I booked through Expedia and that seemed to be a problem. The check in desk was closed so I was told to go to the bar. I went to the bar and they sent me back to the check in desk because they didn't have a record of my reservation. I had to wait for someone to show up at the desk. I was clearly an inconvenience. There is also no elevator so if you can't carry your bags up one or two flights of stairs, this is not the place for you. There is a bar/ restaurant on site. I was surprised that the noise coming from the bar did not disturb me, even through I was directly above it. (I did not eat there so I can't comment on it.) Goderich claims that HM The Late Queen once said it was the most beautiful town in Canada. I must confess, I don't agree with Her Majesty.

Beautiful historic building. Lovely location. Not a great experience though in terms of a hotel stay. It was unclean, I did not receive any room services, toilet paper, fresh towels etc. even though I was there 4 days. The walls are paper thin, so with noisy neighbours I did not sleep. The staff are only present in the restaurant. Ownership has changed and everything has definitely gone down hill unfortunately. You don’t even get a coffee maker in the room.

The check in consisted of a sign directing us to the bar. The bartender was very busy and only asked our name and then handed us our pass cards with the instructions "It's on the second floor" Even though we hung the "REFRESH OUR ROOM" sign on the door. No housekeeping was provided. Also, some of the towels had a yellowish hue to them. They didn't look very clean. When we checked out. The woman at the desk didn't even look up until I said "Good morning". And then she just took the pass cards and went back to her computer screen. So I asked if everything was good. She didn't even look up to respond with "Yeah". The waitress in the restaurant/bar was terrible. She didn't even bring cutlery to our table. The guy from the kitchen had to get us some when he brought out our meal. She didn't come by to ask us if everything was okay until after we had finished our meal. And then she didn't apply the 20% off discount that they advertised on their menu and signage. On top of all this, the sidewalk outside the building was torn up with construction. I know that this part was not their fault, but it added to the miserable stay we had. We would not return to this hotel.

Great location and walkable to most restaurants and shopping

Brusque tone at check-out due to key card replacement, adjacent sidewalks and roads had jackhammers, tampers, and heavy vehicles making noise and dust. Apologies or discounts were not offered; notice of the noise and dust was not provided at time of booking or subsequently on arrival.

There was a weird smell on the stairways. Property looks very old and it's time for renovation. Most of the time there is no staff available for any questions or service- guests are directed to the bar for check-in. I was told breakfast will be available from 7.30-10 am but infact it was made available 9-11am. Least to say, complementary breakfast menu is awful which is as good as nothing. Room carpet looks dirty that you feel disgusting to walk barefoot. Bathroom commode is kid size and the towels are tired of their service and is begging for replacement.
