The Green Dragon Hotel

Booked for a wedding reception of a family member . Room was adequate but a bit sated.

Excellently located hotel, car park close by and convenient for my business meeting. I didn't have breakfast but the restaurant served good food in the evening.

Excellent hotel right in the middle of Hereford. Access to everything you need so no need to use car. Car parking available, but its not owned by hotel and does get busy.

We had room only so no breakfast in the hotel but there were nearby places which were good. Room was comfortable and enough space for opening cases (a pet hate if I can't). Bathroom was OK - shower in bath. Location was excellent. Carpark is across the road from the back of the hotel - seemed safe and enough spaces for clientelle.

Lovely stay at this hotel was early arriving and the hotel had our room ready within 30 mins. Used the bar, coffee lounge and had an evening meal in the restraunt all of which were nice with good service

Stayed for a work trip. The food and drinks on offer at the hotel were great, especially breakfast. The staff were lovely, especially the lady on reception who was very friendly and helpful when I had issues checking in with a credit card. Lots of space to hold informal business meetings with my colleagues. Parking needed to be paid for separately but still very convenient in the middle of the town centre. Some colleagues mentioned that they could hear seagulls calling in the night but I couldn’t - possibly worth packing earplugs but it may just have been where their rooms were located in the hotel.

Extensive, with quiet rooms and lots of facilities. There is a little cocktail bar where the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and everyone was very welcoming. Breakfast options were good.

Great experience good base for a wedding reception

Starting with the positives, the hotel is conveniently located, offers discount parking, and inside has high ceilings and some perio charm. The rooms were nicely decorated, if not a bit lacking in maintenance (spots of black mould, stained carpets/throw cushions), the shower had good power and the matresses were comfy. Unfortunately, there was an event on right below our room, which we weren't informed about when booking or when checking in. The noise and vibrations from the event were unbearably loud in our room, preventing us from getting to sleep. After enquiring on how much longer the event was planned, we were offered to move to another room. Given the hotel wasn't at full occupancy, it seems strange to me why staff would put guests in this situation in the first. After getting dressed, and repacking all of our belongings, we traipsed across to the other side of the hotel, out of earshot of the event. This second room echoed the decor and ccmfort of the first, so initially, it felt like we'd finally get some peace. Sadly, the room was at the front of the hotel and, in keeping with the style, the large, single glazed windows were less than effective in keeping out the noises from the street...i think the drunks at 2am were our highlight... In all, if you're used to quiet surroundings, I'd caution that your beauty sleep may be affected, and I'd suggest that management have better communication with guests, but all in all, I've had worse experiences elsewhere!

Every member of staff I met/spoke to was smiling, friendly & engaging. The public areas, bars & lounges were smart, clean & comfortable. Parking was just across the road with a handy payment machine in the hotel reception.

Room was damaged and run down, paint missing from walls, marks on the walls. Sofa bed had the worst mattress - could feel the metal frame underneath. Had to use a duvet to act as padding for my daughter. Main bed - mattress as stiff as a board. Cheap duvet and bead sheets/pillow cases meant I was itchy throughout the night. Window frame is old and window does not shut properly - cold all night. Bath shower is hard to maintain a constant temperature. Breakfast - food and coffee was cold - no hot plates for cooked breakfast - cheapest bacon imaginable, more fat than pork! Dead insects and cobwebs everywhere by main windows suggest no thorough cleans. Staff were not very enthusiatic, but helpful. Would not come back again. I come from Hereford so remember when The Green Dragon was the premier hotel for miles around, indead where Royalty would stay during visits. Those days are long gone, guessing due to bad management and an unwillingness to spend money for upkeep/on staff.

Well this is a review like no other…I don’t know where we stayed but it wasn’t in the same hotel as other people who have reviewed The Green Dragon! On a positive note the hotel is a great location near the cathedral…it’s not the hotels fault but it is noisy with music from other bars and cars revving so maybe be prepared for disturbed sleep. We must have been given the worst room in the hotel that at best could be described as very disappointing….it had a cold unwelcoming feel, walls were incredibly grubby with stains of some sort & chipped paint, this was very noticeable as the room was painted throughout in a dark colour. Unfortunately it had a dirty feel although this wasnt necessarily so…..the bedding & towels were clean. Bathroom was dated & equally had a cold uninviting feel, the bottom of the bath was stained & cracked. This is hardly the luxury room it describes on the outside wall of the hotel, the digital display in the foyer or the photos on websites We didn’t have breakfast included so cannot comment on friendliness of the staff. Our only staff encounter was the receptionists when we were checking in & leaving and they were very pleasant. Sorry to say the best words to describe our room are tatty, tired & grotty We were asked by reception how our stay was & have given feedback. We have been offered a 20% refund on our stay which is something but we consider we still paid too much for the room even with this offer. We await the refund to our card.

Whilst we reaslised that the hotel is an old property, its cleanliness left a lot to be desired and the overall decor was very dismal and univiting, it could do with a major facelift, whilst retaining the quirky uniqueness of the property brightening the decor would improve theplace enormously. The door to room had to be fixed as would not close waited in reception for repair thirty minutes. I noticed on second night that all the window frames were full of mould. And have just reviewed an artical damp mould i was bit disappointed. Reported to receptionist on check out.

Very happy with our stay. Staff very friendly and bedrooms very clean. Lovely selection for breakfast. Central for everything. Overall very pleased we choose to stay here. Will definitely stay here again when in Hereford.

Situated within a gorgeous looking building the hotel makes use of its period features without giving a dated impression. The room I stayed in was spotless and had everything I needed to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Being in the city centre was also another major positive as it meant I could arrive into Hereford by train and walk to the hotel. Hotel staff were also unendingly polite and facilitated a frictionless check-in despite the time of night I got there. I would 100% stay here again if I find myself in need of a hotel room in Hereford.

The pictures looks nicer than it is, the interior of the rooms are very outdated and the old rug that also are in the bathroom need to go. Lobby is ok, the stairs and corridor is very old-fashioned like the room. Luckily the bed is clean and nice. Birds outside made a lot of noise very early in the morning. Breakfast was good and the restaurant looks nice.

The Staff were excellent, very helpful and after care service was also ecellent, I did not take my receipt on checkout and emailed the front desk (Maddie) who was very helpful and sent me the reciipt immediately, for some hotels once you have left you are dead to them, but not here, thank you Room was spacious and clean, its an hotel that has old world charm but with modern amenities, there were a couple of creaky floorboards but this added to the charm.

The hotel is centrally located and parking was very easy. The staff are fantastic friendly courteous and helpful in any way they could be. However the hotel whilst comfortable and clean looks tired and could do with a refurb.

Staff really good, reception etc. The room though, comfortable but the sink taps and bath/shower taps you have to turn and turn to get a flow from them. The bath/shower, to get a decent heat and flow for the shower it takes about a minute messing about with the hot and cold to get a safe shower temperature. Loud music coming from a pub over the road or somewhere beyond 2am. You hear every sound from above, the corridors. People talking, people's TVs on too loud, people walking about. The above went on through the night then people again at 0615 banging, talking, TVs on again!! Then an air-conditioning unit came on at 0630 outside my window. Normally I would use ear plugs but had forgotten them! For the price of 135.00 too, breakfast isn't even included. Not good and definitely needs upgrading. Parking is 9.00 for 24 hrs or about 7.00 if you use an app!

Unfortunately the property does not have air conditioning and it was very warm when I stayed.

No air conditioning room very hot. Held the window open with a can of hairspray because it was loose. No hot water. All disappointing for the main hotel in Hereford .

We stayed in a twin room which was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly. I can normally sleep through anything but the noise from the air con units (I presume that's what they were) outside our window kept me awake most of the night. It sounded like a motor running constantly. I believe ear plugs should be put in those rooms that border the units. What was a lovely stay was spoilt by the constant buzz outside the window

Lovely central location. Spacious room but very stuffy with only one fan and windows not opening fully

The room was for a single person, it was expensive for two nights and it certainly needed repainting . It over looked a junk yard and there was a generator going which could be heard through the single pane glass window . Sack the interior designer. Carpet had a burn mark, lamps were dusty. It was difficult to read, there was a used shampoo bottle left in the bath , Wifi was poor and there was no desk to work on. Or put your suitcase on ..a single chair and a tiny telly. My son was staying in the room opposite which for two aadults was far better. On the positive it was central to hereford and had a nice bar and cafe. It was overpriced .

Refused to deal with the difficulties of a disabled person - me. Refused to reserve a disabled parking spot so i had to defer my stay...... But they said NO ! DREADFUL.

Great hotel with the most comfortable beds!!! Booked for all my staff for our rehearsals staff really looked after us

Upon arrival receptionist was very friendly and room seemed nice but dated. It was also extremely hot with no AC. A small fan was provided but this still left for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. We also noticed a patch of damp on the ceiling and running down the wall which we thought nothing of until 1am when we were awoken by dripping water coming from the ceiling which continued for most of the morning. When informing reception of this leak at checkout (a different lady from checkin) their response was “oh really” with much disinterest and no apology. Unlikely to return.

Room lovely and clean. Reception staff very polite and professional. Service in afternoon bar was quite slow when they turned up to serve you, also supposed to close at 5pm but closed down around 3.30 without asking if we wanted desserts, coffee or anything else - just closed down. Went down to breakfast and had to wait again for someone to come, it ended up I went to reception to ask them if they could get someone. Good choice for breakfast though

Excellent situation right by cathedral and shops. Easy 10 min walk from rail station. Despite heatwave room was comfortable thanks to good fan. Everything was clean and worked well. Receptionist was welcoming and friendly. I had a very early start so cant comment on breakfast.

This is a historic hotel with history back to the 11th century right next to the cathedral in the centre of Hereford. Great atmosphere.

Not sure why, but there are lots of Seagulls around the hotel, perhaps because where my room is located that I could hear them being very vocal very early in the morning ! It would be good to know if any other rooms had any similar noise problems ?!

The restaurant is excellent, good meal, good service.

Pleasant stay, rooms a little tired and dated. Clean room, and friendly staff. Breakfast very disappointing, limited choice, no pastries. I asked for two poached eggs and was brought 4 hard boiled eggs that looked like they had been peeled.

The hotel has a great central location not far from the Cathedral. We had pretty much everything we needed - a good sized en suite room, plenty of pillows, delightful staff and convivial surroundings. Dinner was spectacular. Just wonderful. I parked on street though there is a paying hotel car park which we discovered later and would look to use for any future visit. Avoid the ncp car parks unless you have downloaded the app in advance. A must see - the Mappa Mundi and the library in the Cathedral.

I booked a room as I was attending a dinner dance evening in the ballroom. Everything from the evening meal through to the breakfast was superb. The food was delicious and piping hot, the cocktails were delightful and breakfast was excellent. The staff were all so friendly, extremely polite and welcoming. It was a pleasure staying there.

I had a fantastic stay at the GD. The staff were lovely, my room was big, quiet and clean and the shower was very powerful. Breakfast was top-notch, especially the homemade granola. Highly recommend this excellent hotel.

Over priced for service offered. Cold tap in room didn’t work nor did the tv. Reported both but were unresolvable - staff did however provide a couple bottles of water for room. For the price paid per night I would have expected water as standard anyway. Car park unavailable due to festival which was ok as I had been prenotified by the hotel and there was NCP car park nearby - however this then became an extra cost pushing room cost higher. Breakfast was very expensive compared to choice available - bacon was very dry had to ask for for fresh bacon and eggs. Fruit choice restricted to melon, limited continental offer and no fresh juice - all of which would be fine for a £10 breakfast but for £18.50 I would have expected better. Plus point location- Was excellent for exploring town centre which was lovely
