Amazing bed, beautiful interior of the building and our room. Convenient bars located below our room. Check-in/out was seamless. Parking was easy, used the ramp northwest across the street. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Would I stay here again? YES! Would I recommend it? YES! But Olivers is not for average travelling bear. Must be able to navigate purely electronic text/web based checkin. No Parking so must navigate similarly difficult garage across street with non-functioning elevator. Sauna is a PLUS amenity!

Exactly as described! We would definitely stay again - next time will bring swimsuits to take advantage of the incredible sauna. Loved the location, and ate at Wasabi twice.

The hotel rooms were great! The two bars on the property were very cool! However, this property is not easily accessible. Parking was hard to find and once you figured it out, it was across the street. Then you had to deal with un-homed lottering by the doors and on the street. No area to load or unload luggage or any help from staff, as there were none on-site. If you needed assistance, you had to text/call the hotel and wait for a response However, during the day it was very convenient and felt safe to be right downtown but after dark the vicinity was highly populated with un-homed individuals and a little scary. It would have been nice if the property had a vending machine for water, snacks and an ice machine, but no luck. We had to go to other businesses close by to buy bottled water and food, which was very expensive. Everything had key codes to be able to enter. The hotel, the room and parking doors. It took several tries to get them to work properly. That might have been our issue as we were not used to working these. Overall, I loved the hotel and the rooms, just not the hassle of all of the door codes or getting our luggage in and out of the hotel and not the discomfort of the un-homed next to the doors and on the street.

The hotel was under construction which we found out about the day before. It got to be loud around 7am with them starting work which was not fun! The hotel otherwise was cute and very clean. We had issues finding our room and they were very quick and responsive on getting back to us. They had a few snacks and easy instructions on getting inside. The hotel is across from a casino and packing garage. It is convient to park there, however there are a lot of homeless people out asking for money ask you are going back and forth to your car. Swede Room 1 was freezing with a huge air conditioning vent blowing on the beds almost all the time. Had to sleep under multiple blankets with fleece vest on. I would avoid that room. Shared bathroom floors were dirty, shower drain full of hair, no paper towels in dispenser, ceiling tiles falling. Could not get Rathskeller staff to take our order - they just stood behind the bar eating, talking, looking right at us/ignoring us... So we left! The first floor bar staff in Snively's were great!

Hard to find. No staff available for finding the room. Very noisy throughout the night, felt like a dungeon. Unsure if cleaned after the previous guest as there was a dusty paper cup and other items under the bed, rug had visible dirt on it, water still in coffee maker from earlier guests. Common bathroom area dirty. Quite disappointed for the price.

An interesting and historic building, that smells like restaurant fryer oil on the main floor. Municipal parking ramp across the road is not typical. You park and pay online then access the next day can be difficult. I couldn’t find an unlocked door this morning. Had to wait for someone to leave in order to get to my vehicle. The main benefits would be price and cleanliness. My room is nice and clean.

This place is definitely unique. The beds were comfortable, nice linens and pillows. Bathroom was clean, hot water, updated shower. There was a mini fridge, ceiling fan and extra fans. The room was a little warm, temp control was locked. I stayed in room 5 and I could smell the restaurant that is attached especially when I turned on the bathroom light/fan. This room is on the lower level and faces the road. It was pretty noisy with vehicle traffic at night and people hanging outside the building. I definitely wouldn’t feel safe walking at night outside this area. I would stay here again depending on the reason for my Duluth visit.

Loved the room - very roomy and comfortable beds. The location did not feel safe. There was many homeless people lingering around. There was a lot of noise when it said quiet time was 10pm-8am. The room floors were really sandy. The room was nice and cool.

Spacious, comfy room, nice touches. Great beds. Nice shower. No window made for great sleeping in! 😀 Everything was easy and convenient. If you go to bed early, the Mary McFadden room might not be for you, as it is across from the sushi restaurant and a little noisy in the evening. Perfect for us!

Oliver Inn was a fantastic way to get to know Duluth. Very convenient for the canal and bridge, shopping, restaurants, walking and sightseeing. It may not be for everyone, however. It is a historic building, whose rooms have PERSONALITY galore. We stayed in the Dorothy Arnold room (12) with 4 poster bed, high ceilings, wood floors, loveseat, bathroom en suite. You enter the building through a Japanese restaurant, then climb the stairs or take the elevator to the next floor where you are instantly transported to the early 1900's. Comfortable and relaxing place if you enjoy that sort of thing, which we do. It has the mod-cons you expect in a nice comfortable room, but they are meant to blend into the time period.

Great little spot just steps from a lot of Duluth's mainstays. Worked great as a home base to attend a wedding out on Park Point. The bed was ridiculously comfy, the bathroom was well appointed, and the little nespresso-style coffee machine became a well-used perk.

We really enjoyed staying here! Such a cool, cozy place. We do recommend bringing a portable fan if staying in the summer, as it can get a little warm (not horrible though). The beds were very comfortable! We definitely recommend!

Feels like a European hotel. Extraordinary architecture and history, great stonewalled atmospheric bar in the basement, and restaurant in the first floor. Couldn’t get a more authentically Duluth experience. Staff was very helpful even though they are offsite. Very,very responsive. Also really great shower/bath room in the Chester and Clara Congdon Room.
Feels like a European hotel. Extraordinary architecture and history, great stonewalled atmospheric bar in the basement, and restaurant in the first floor. Couldn’t get a more authentically Duluth experience. Staff was very helpful even though they are offsite. Very,very responsive. Also really great shower/bath room in the Chester and Clara Congdon Room.

Check in was a complete disaster. I entered through the back entrance of the property greeted by two workers. They never once told me that I should enter the front door. I returned to the property to enter at 8:30 at night only ro be locked out. I was able to reach someone the following day who advised to enter through the front door. The condition of the room was fantastic. The amenities were great. The bed was excellent.🚪

We had a little mix up at first on our room. The manager called and meade everything right again! We got to visit the bar in the basement - super cool vibe! I would recommend and stay here again!

Amazing bed, beautiful interior of the building and our room. Convenient bars located below our room. Check-in/out was seamless. Parking was easy, used the ramp northwest across the street. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

This was a beautiful boutique inn. They take care to ensure you have everything you need, providing contact information in the event there is anything you need. The contactless check-in and check-out process is seamless. I would definitely recommend The Oliver Inn. A very nice option away from the standard hotel options. Very nice and caring staff.

Was super confusing for check in because no front desk or staff. If there was some sort of information or instructions when we walked in it would have been helpful. The ONLY complaint we had was what to do when we needed more toilet paper.

Started with a reservation snafu, that was quickly sorted by staff via email and text. This is a self check-in hotel that worked smoothly. The room was recently renovated with an enormous bed, clean bathroom and included a mini fridge and coffeemaker. Everything worked as expected. The location is downtown convenient to the Duluth Coffee Company, shopping and the waterfront. WE didn't have the opportunity to visit Sniveleys Lounge in the hotel or the Rathskeller Bar in the basement. Maybe next time!

I stayed here the night before Grandma's Marathon in 2025. Here's what's not clear on Expedia, and not entirely clear on the Oliver's website: this is a STAFLESS hotel. I figured this out after I arrived at the hotel. I was provided with no information prior to check-in, so had to break open my laptop, log-in to Expedia, call the main number, wait for a call back, and then receive a text with details on how to get into my room. The hotel rooms were great! The two bars on the property were very cool! However, this property is not easily accessible. Parking was hard to find and once you figured it out, it was across the street. Then you had to deal with un-homed lottering by the doors and on the street. No area to load or unload luggage or any help from staff, as there were none on-site. If you needed assistance, you had to text/call the hotel and wait for a response However, during the day it was very convenient and felt safe to be right downtown but after dark the vicinity was highly populated with un-homed individuals and a little scary. It would have been nice if the property had a vending machine for water, snacks and an ice machine, but no luck. We had to go to other businesses close by to buy bottled water and food, which was very expensive. Everything had key codes to be able to enter. The hotel, the room and parking doors. Cool hotel with friendly bar on main floor. Beds were comfortable. Room very clean. Easy parking across the street. The only negative was the sad state of downtown Duluth - I wasn't expecting big city problems in a small town (high # of homeless, obnoxious e-bikers along the lake path, etc.).

The hotel was under construction which we found out about the day before. It got to be loud around 7am with them starting work which was not fun! The hotel otherwise was cute and very clean. We had issues finding our room and they were very quick and responsive on getting back to us. They had a few snacks and easy instructions on getting inside. The hotel is across from a casino and packing garage. It is convient to park there, however there are a lot of homeless people out asking for money ask you are going back and forth to your car. The parking garage is locked with a code you get when you pay though, which was nice.

Cute kitschy historic property. Comfy. Though grateful for AC, it was the detractor of our stay - unit humming loudly all night. Surrounding area - yikes. Many drugged out people walking around. Duluth has lost itself - sad to see.

Amazing location, we parked and walked to everything. We parked on the street right next to the hotel. We were nervous about the car but everything was fine. The hotel is so unique and each room tells a different story. The beds were super comfortable. The bathroom was huge! Loved the onsite bar!! We will only stay here when in Duluth. Side note food at canal park brewery is excellent and ice cream at love creamery is a must!

Lovingly restored building of historical significance, clean, and with all necessary modern conveniences including massive streaming TV. #10 Mayor Snively room was 3x size of standard hotel room. Loved the Nespresso machine in the room, but the walk across street to Duluth Coffee co. & their onsite roaster is even better.

The Oliver Inn was such a great place to stay. The history of the building, architectural design, and the speakeasy made this trip a one of a kind experience. With the location so close to the walking path to Fitgers and Canal Park, we were able to enjoy all our favorite places in Duluth. The view of the lake from our suite was beautiful!

We only stayed a night and the room was nice and spacious, the bed was really comfortable. The only issue we had was our room was right across from the restaurant so it was pretty loud. It closes at 9:30 so no bother after they were done cleaning. But communication clear.

This was the cutest, most comfortable room I've been in, ever. Historical, yet modern. Awesome Chinese/Japanese restaurant right across from my room. The only problems I discovered was the TV didn't have live, local TV, just streaming stations. The other problem was the rug in the bathroom had fringes on the ends, and the knots were painful to step on. Otherwise, Excellent!!!

You might read some reviews that say this place is inside a Japanese restaurant. It's not. Yes, some of the rooms open up to a hallway that is adjacent to a Japanese restaurant, but you are very much in your own space. If anything, the restaurant is a selling point, as it's delicious. The speakeasy in the basement is also excellent, and we were happy to realize that we shared a building with a place we have been to a couple of times before on our regular Duluth excursions. You may not ever see a staff person, because it is self-check in, but I assure you that they are top notch. Great communication and helpful beyond the call of duty. We will definitely stay here again!

Loved the old time feel of the room! It was very comfy and the location downtown made for easy access to the sites we visited. The only downside was the Sushi smell from the restaurant in the same building.

Really cool conversion of the first city hall of Duluth into a boutique hotel. Our room was on the "first" floor (really the basement) without any windows, which was a little freaky at first. Room 11 had a room door that apparently was warped resulting in the deadbolt lock unable to open or close properly. After 3 tries the digital lock would not be useable for 5 minutes. This was frustrating and time consuming. Highway noise was noticeable. Parking was also an issue. Location was very walkable to restaurants.
