St James Gate by Bower Boutique Hotels

It's a no front desk hotel but the communication before check in was great and we had no issues getting in. The hotel doesn't have a escalator, and there is stairs to get to any of the rooms. The room was clean, comfortable temperature and bed was pretty comfy. I would stay here again. There is no parking, but there's a city owned lot across the street that had ample space

Beautiful little room

If you enjoy being close to the downtown action, this property is well-situated. Independent pubs and chain restaurants are within walking distance as is the creepy but inexpensive parking garage across the street. (No onsite parking for the hotel.) Although the entire check-in/check-out process is without human interaction, it is well-organized and easy to understand. A virtual assistant regularly texts you with updates and information during your stay. The room was spacious with original hardwood floors and a floor-to-ceiling glass shower that looks into the room. (Keep this in mind when selecting your travel partners.) Complimentary Keurig, water bottles, and earplugs (!) were all appreciated. The room incuded robes and a bar fridge, and featured a queen-size bed which featured lumpy foam pillows, clean and comfortable sheets, and a cozy duvet. The earplugs made us nervous, but there was really no noise, perhaps because we were there on a Wednesday night. We opted to visit the pub on the ground floor of the property, also called The St. James Gate, where we encountered a team of aloof, unfriendly, and completely distracted serving staff who appeared to be very busy avoiding customers. After actively pursuing a drink from the bartender who delivered a 3/4-full pint glass, we abandoned any hopes for dinner and left the property without so much as a nod or a thank you from the bar staff. In short, stay for the hotel, avoid the pub.

There were a lot of stairs! Parking across the street at your own expense. Self check in so no one to talk to. Our room was nice but said city view- our view was of an alley- dirty- and the parking lot.
