Never given a hotel 1 star till today. : Understand it's a hostel, but booked a private room would atleast expect towels (£2.50 each to borrow) to be free, never in my life had to pay for them anywhere I stayed before. No basics such as hairdryer, shampoo, soap, kettle/drink facilities ect. Really is the bare minimum you get. For a. 4 star accommodation it doesn't add up. Inside Curtains could easily be cleaned but covered in blood or something aswell. Disgusting!! Bit more effort to clean wouldn't have gone a miss Weird that they have a wonderful done up bathroom but still charge for towels. Room was spacious & perfect location decent view atleast.

was a little disappointed to be honest,the bed was comfortable enough,strangely placed right in front of a large window,meaning i had to have the curtains closed,even in daylight,strange too that the tv was positioned behind the head of the bed,meaning i had to stand to view it.i did not have the tv on for long though,as the lack of signal meant having it on was for the most part,a waste of time.there was no kettle in my room,and in the bathroom,i had a bath,but no shower,this strangely,was right in front of the window too.for the £130 i paid for the night,i would've expected towels to be supplied for free,but,no,(good job i brought my own)these were for hire! staff were very nice and helpful,and i slept very well,however,i certainly couldn't describe my stay as value for money,so,therefor,wouldn't be staying here again.

Nice hostel, right in front of the pier, even if the building is a bit old. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is also a nice bar. Bedroom and bathroom were of a good size but the TV was useless because placed behind the bed and there was no shower, only bath.

Great hostel! I really love the lounge area! It was chill and quiet and had a wonderful coffee shop vibe. I enjoyed my stay; everything was great. The internet was a bit unsteady on the upper floors, but other than that, I'd stay again for sure.

Great, affordable stay in a perfect location. We booked a private double which was affordable, spacious and clean. The check in process was easy and the young local fellow at the desk was fantastic and sorted us out with recommendations. The location is incredible for the price. Seconds walk to the pier and loads of great venues around for food and drinks. The communal kitchen facility was well equipped, but perhaps in need of a good clean. Overall a very pleasant stay that I would definitely recommend.

The room was big but no facilities in the room usually you have a kettle also some tea bags and coffee.Also we didn't know it was a hostel and each night the kids would be out shouting, screaming until 3.30am so we didnt get much sleep at all.

We booked a double, private room. We only stayed one night. The room was clean and bright. The curtains could have covered the windows more. There was no towels in the room (found out after we left you had to pay extra for that) TV was a little Iffy too but we wasnt there long. No tea or coffee making facilites in the room.

I have to say, our stay at a&o was 11 out of 10! From location, to staff, from room to coffee/bar from seating areas to views and a short (under 5 minutes) walk to the historic Brighton Palace Pier! I simply cannot fault this lovely (I would so not call) hostel! I am already looking to book for another stay! The wonderful Isla couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Thank you again Isla! 💝✨️ The bathroom was TOP NOTCH! The seating areas were simply beautiful and the staff were the cherry on the cake! In all my years, with a travel/tourism business degree under my belt, I have to say this is the first time my eyes opened to REAL, TRUE, HONEST value for money accommodation! I know I'm going on and on but honestly, I mean every word! If you don't believe me, try for yourself! Ps. I recommend the Cappuccino and a game of table mini football! 🙌✨️💕

The check in was super easy, the hotel was clean and has a lovely view. We had Olly at the desk overnight who was very accommodating, super nice and was happy to help with anything we needed, I would very happily stay here again, I definitely reccomend!!

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hostel is kept very clean and is not far from places to eat and drink and very close to the centre of Brighton. The double room we stayed in was quite big and the shower always had hot water but the walls and windows were in need of some TLC, however this did not bother us and would definitely use again.

Great location, beautiful building, and staff friendly. Need lockers, more hooks, posters to remind people to listen to videos with their headphones, and if chatting on phone - go to lobby. Lobby chairs could be a bit comfier. More explanation on what can be recycled. Be great if there was a kitchen. Bathtub needed a good scrub, looks like it was probably hard to reach. Otherwise seemed pretty clean. Very noisy outside with pub/club goers until 4 am!

The hotel is clean , however the room definitely needs a bit of TLC. There are holes in the walls, Paint chipping off all over the room, windows rotting. The bed was clean, though, so if you are literally looking for a place to sleep, it is ok. As a heavy sleeper who can sleep through noise, I slept fine, however my boyfriend unfortunately couldn't sleep due to needing to keep the window open and the noise outside the hotel in the steeet keeping him up all night, which couldn't be muffled with ear plugs. Have to say the team at reception were really friendly and helpful, which was great.

It was really clean and updated. The service was great. I’m an avid pillow monster and would have benefited with 2 pillows rather than the one provided. So in future I would bring my own pillow. Other than that it was a lovely clean stay. The bathroom was clean also. The only thing I’ll mention is because of the location, and the clubs, pubs and events around it was loud but kinda expected it as we were in central brighton.

Really welcoming receptionist, our private room was a very decent size and even had a sea view which was brilliant for the affordable price! Our en suite only had a bath and no shower which is really the only negative I can think of (and to some this could be a positive)

To be honest it was the worst stay I had at a hostel to date. There was hardly a beach view but that hardly matter anymore when I could barely get any sleep both nights I stayed there. The worst part is that the room was facing a club just outside our window, so the noise was constant from late evening to around 4 am. To add to it, I could see the window in our room had an area where it had been smashed and taped together, so there was virtually no noise proofing. The room we were in was also the last one on the floor and the wi-fi barely reached us with the exception one corner.

Ok, I know it's a hostel. But I've stayed in private rooms in hostels all around the world and this review is in comparison to them. The room was spacious and ok. The bedsheets and pillows had little stains on them which weren't great. The bed was shocking. I could feel the metal frame underneath. The TV reception was intermittent and some of the functions on the remote did not work. But, I'm well aware that staying in a hostel must b accompanied by elements that are a little rough around the edges, which is why myself and my partner tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. But the noise from the room above was very loud. We asked the hotel receptionist (who was accommodating) to ask them to be quiet (a group of young boys on a trip), but the noise persisted. And the room window was single glazed and ancient. With a nightclub entrance right outside our window there was no hope of sleep. So we left at 00:30. Too late to keep complaining as we had to get up early and too tired to keep faith. This is only the second time we have left an establishment because it was so bad, the first time being a place that resembled the subterranean bunker in The Hills Have Eyes. Better photographer than customer services. This place wasn't that bad, but I would never book again.

And the room window was single glazed and ancient. With a nightclub entrance right outside our window there was no hope of sleep. So we left at 00:30. Too late to keep complaining as we had to get up early and too tired to keep faith. This is only the second time we have left an establishment because it was so bad, the first time being a place that resembled the subterranean bunker in The Hills Have Eyes. Better photographer than customer services. This place wasn't that bad, but I would never book again.

Great hostel! I really love the lounge area! It was chill and quiet and had a wonderful coffee shop vibe. I enjoyed my stay; everything was great. The internet was a bit unsteady on the upper floors, but other than that, I'd stay again for sure.

The check in was super easy, the hotel was clean and has a lovely view. We had Olly at the desk overnight who was very accommodating, super nice and was happy to help with anything we needed, I would very happily stay here again, I definitely reccomend!!

I booked this hotel simply because of the location to The Lanes. It was perfect, I didm't realise it was a hostel but it didn't matter. The receptionist, Suzie, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeble. We were treated really well, enjoyed the perfect location, it was clean and we slept well. I would stay there again. We were able to leave our lugguage before and after check in and out. Wonderful experience.

Great, affordable stay in a perfect location. We booked a private double which was affordable, spacious and clean. The check in process was easy and the young local fellow at the desk was fantastic and sorted us out with recommendations. The location is incredible for the price. This is the best place to stay for people with a lower budget. We booked a room with a private bathroom. It’s in the city centre/next to the beach and the pier! The facilities could use some TLC but it’s not that bad. Would definitely come back here again. Thank you!

It was really clean and updated. The service was great. I’m an avid pillow monster and would have benefited with 2 pillows rather than the one provided. So in future I would bring my own pillow. Other than that it was a lovely clean stay. The bathroom was clean also. The only thing I’ll mention is because of the location, and the clubs, pubs and events around it was loud but kinda expected it as we were in central brighton.

A nice affordable place. We stayed for New Year’s and a convenient access to the beach. Easily accessible food options, clubs, pubs and a theatre. Only cons is that the room is a bit weird with the wall sticker and the paint coming out. The bathroom is renovated and feels much cleaner than the room. You have to pay extra £2 for the towels. Staffs were amazing and very nice. The cafe is nice and the guy who made us tea at night was so nice. Overall, happy with the place and the stay.

I chose the YHA because of its cost and location and as a single lady, chose to pay for a double room. I had made a special request which was honoured - thank you! I cannot praise the hostel highly enough. The staff were friendly and helpful and carried my heavy bag upstairs for me. Yes, the room was basic but apart from a kettle and a towel, it had EVERYTHING one could need. I knew from the hostel info that these items were not provided and made arrangements for myself. I paid for the cooked breakfast and it was plentiful and excellent. I urge you to support this place - it is the best deal in the whole of Brighton. Thank you to all staff. If you are reading this, then look NO further, if basic is OK for you, then book right now!

I have to say, our stay at a&o was 11 out of 10! From location, to staff, from room to coffee/bar from seating areas to views and a short (under 5 minutes) walk to the historic Brighton Palace Pier! I simply cannot fault this lovely (I would so not call) hostel! I am already looking to book for another stay! The wonderful Isla couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Thank you again Isla! 💝✨️ The bathroom was TOP NOTCH! The seating areas were simply beautiful and the staff were the cherry on the cake! In all my years, with a travel/tourism business degree under my belt, I have to say this is the first time my eyes opened to REAL, TRUE, HONEST value for money accommodation! The view had scaffholding all around the property and they still charged us full price, there was no mattress it was just a thin foam pad that did NOT protect us from bed frame. The hostel is located center to the club scene and the windows are not sound proofed so you can hear all tye noise. Also to mention the walls are extremely thin so we could hear people talking and moving in their own accommodations which was a problem in the early hours of the morning. If you are to stay you do need to bring your own items, they provided the bare minimum no kettle no chairs.
