Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, must let you know there is no elevator, is near the top of the town on cobblestone walkways. Our family room was on the 4th floor. Staff helped get luggage up the circular stairway. It is next to a beautiful little park, is beside a rushing River, exquisite views and a 5-minute walk to the hot springs

Tentei ligar e escrevi pelo chat em várias ocasiões e não recebi nenhum feedback, o que foi muito ruim. Queria que alguém do hotel estivesse no meu desembarque do trem me esperando, mas isso não ocorreu. Tirando isso, o hotel era regular/bom. Outro ponto negativo é não ter elevador, e terem me hospedado no terceiro andar, com 2 crianças.

Hotel Retama is about half way up the hill in Agua Calliente. It is easy to find. As with all the hotels, there are lots of stairs. Make sure you request a room on the lower floors if you can't do stairs. The staff were great, and the breakfast was good. There were 10 in our group and we were able to go to Machu Picchu early in the morning, leave our bags there and have their staff deliver the bags to the train station. What a great service! It was very noisy at this hotel. It sounded like we were three doors down from a disco that didn't stop their music until around 4:00 am. We were told there was a celebration the night we stayed there for the anniversary of the village. So, not sure if it is that noisy normally.

Overall the property is ok. We stayed two knights. They booked us in the fourth floor and there was no elevator and at first we thought it ok. Then we saw several lower floor empty rooms. Going to our room at an elevation over 2000 m was a real challenge. Housekeeping wasn’t done.

Llegamos a las 13 hrs y las habitaciones NO estaban listas, además reservamos dos habitaciones de 3 personas y nos dieron una de 2 personas muy pequeña y con valor inferior de 30 dólares que se negaron a reembolsar o darnos el servicio pactado, solo atinaron a hacernos check out tarde. Está pegado al río, es húmedo, no hay calefacción. Las camas son cómodas pero si es un cuarto frío. La limpieza del cuarto bien, el baño tiene hongos, tarda en salir agua caliente, en general no volveríamos porque después de 4 horas de tren lo que quieres es llegar a dormir y sin habitación lista es complicado.

Staff was wonderful, coming to meet us in the middle of town. Cloty was so helpful and pleasant. She even brought us some muna tea outside of mealtime for a companion that had an upset tummy. The room was clean with comfortable beds. The bathroom very clean other than the drain of the sink. There was plenty of hot water for a much appreciated shower after our trip on the Inca trail. There was construction in the lobby on our arrival. The wifi was good in lobby but poor in our room on the 4th floor. Breakfast was fresh with fruit cereal bread cheese ham coffee coca tea yogurt There was an uphill walk to hotel but it was right adjacent to the hot springs. There was a $50 charge for late checkout, which we needed as a sick companion needed the time to rest. Hotel kept our luggage free of charge while we were touring Machu Picchu. Overall nice stay with wonderful staff.

The water in the bathtub doesn't go down and the water in the sink also stays put. The towels all had stains, the pillows too, and the sheets smelled bad. The same person who checks you in is the same person who prepares your room without any kind of cleaning care.

The hotel it self was actually pretty good. Let us store our luggage while we did Machu Picchu, Quite clean, constant hot water in shower, comfy bed, but speaking about the bed i think it was 2 doubles put together to make a “king” in the matrimonial room that also had a “mountain view” which was kinda blocked, you have to step out of the room to actually get the whole view. Breakfast option was nice too. Overall 4.5/5 rating from me. Would recommend if you want something slightly nicer that wont break the bank too much

To warn everybody, it is nearly at the top of the hill so if you're already exhausted, the uphill trek is rough. I also had a room that had a window facing a plaza so listening to people all through the night was unpleasant. Property is close to the river and hot springs. I’m pretty sure they listed air conditioning as one of their amenities, but there was none. As a result, windows had to be opened for cool air and there were some bugs in the room. The shower was also finicky. It went from cold to very hot to cold again with slight adjustments.

The staff were friendly but the breakfast was very minimal. Also the shower didn’t work most of the time. Additionally, no AC and the room was filled with flies and mosquitos prior to arrival due to all the windows being opened. It was very hot and humid in the room. You get what you pay for. In a good area tho.

Stayed one night. It is a basic accommodation. It was clean but there were some items that needed to be fixed. In one room the door knob in the bathroom did not engage so you couldn’t close the door unless there was someone on the outside to let you out.and Another one of the rooms was missing a shower curtain. At night the hot water was warm but in the morning the wat was hot. We were there in winter and it would have been nice if the room had a heater. But overall for one night it served its purposes.

We had a disappointing experience with this hotel. Since Peru was going through a political crisis, all trains and buses to Machu Pichhu were suspended. However, this property didn’t answer calls or respond to emails. Even Hotels.com was unable to get a response from them. I lost my entire booking amount.

Atendimento do Alexio foi excelente, ele nos buscou na saída da estação do trem, ao fazer o checkin ele foi lá no quarto verificar se estava tudo certo antes de entrarmos no quarto. Na recepção tem chá a vontade para ajudar no frio e relaxar. O quarto é espaçoso e confortável, chuveiro com boa pressão e quente. Ficamos no terceiro andar, só tem escadas, não tem elevador mas isso não achamos que desabonasse o resto. O café da manhã é adequado e suficiente. Pode deixar as malas para ir até Mapi mesmo após o checkout.

They offered pick-up from the train station, but it wasn't until after calling several times and waiting 45 minutes that someone arrived. When we finally arrived at the hotel, the rooms had no air conditioning, nor did the bathroom have hot water. They told us that we should sleep with the windows open and the whole area was covered in mosquitoes, horrible experience. We asked to transfer to another hotel and were told it was impossible as all the other hotels in the area were at full capacity. I do not recommend this place at all.

Trip was canceled due to the Peruvian government declaring a state of emergency. I requested a refund, sending several messages through Expedia and through email. Read receipts show that the hotel read my messages but they chose not to respond. Then they have the temerity to act like I am still coming, requesting further info. I\'d rather you tell me "sorry no refunds." I can handle that. But to play games with me is insulting and a water of time. Beware if you book here.

Staff will hold bags no problem, offer suggestions and directions and treats you like a family member so your being looked out for. Extended my stay an additional day because of the combination of all this and the charm of the town.

When we arrived late night there was no hot water. The staff worked diligently to get the issue fixed. This is a family run hotel where they take pride in providing a great stay for their guests. From meeting us at the station to preparing a sack breakfast for our early morning adventure to Machu Picchu the service was excellent. We spent two nights here and had a wonderful experience.

Excelente lugar para descansar. Se encuentra unas cuadras más subiendo la ladera del pueblo pero muy cerca de las aguas termales. Sin embargo nada se sentía lejos. El servicio era muy bueno, el personal atento, servicial y muy amable. Además la habitación estaba limpia y muy cómoda, el agua caliente en regadera y el desayuno era algo regular pero suficiente para lo que implica el hospedaje en Machu Picchu pueblo como lugar de paso para visitar la zona Arqueológica. La relación calidad-precio es excelente.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, must let you know there is no elevator, is near the top of the town on cobblestone walkways. Our family room was on the 4th floor. Staff helped get luggage up the circular stairway. It is next to a beautiful little park, is beside a rushing River, exquisite views and a 5-minute walk to the hot springs

Hotel Retama is about half way up the hill in Agua Calliente. It is easy to find. As with all the hotels, there are lots of stairs. Make sure you request a room on the lower floors if you can't do stairs. The staff were great, and the breakfast was good. There were 10 in our group and we were able to go to Machu Picchu early in the morning, leave our bags there and have their staff deliver the bags to the train station. What a great service! It was very noisy at this hotel. It sounded like we were three doors down from a disco that didn't stop their music until around 4:00 am. We were told there was a celebration the night we stayed there for the anniversary of the village. So, not sure if it is that noisy normally.

This was a truly disappointing experience. We were taken to a different hotel and told the Retama was fully booked. This didn't make sense as we had booked in advance and multiple rooms were still listed as available on Hotels.com and other booking sites. The room we were given was directly onto the road at ground level with people walking past and their conversations audible. When we complained we were given a room on the top floor, which also smelled of damp and the noise from the river was very loud. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. We were initially told breakfast would be in another building a walk away but in the morning it was by reception. The buffet was extremely basic with items not replenished after 4 guests had emptied them.

Although booked at the Retama, for reasons explained to us with the reopening of tourism, we were lodged at the Tara hotel - we believe a 'partner hotel' to the Retama under the same management. The room was very good - smart and clean. The hotel accommodated an early breakfast time for us to allow for first bus departure to Machu Picchu, which was appreciated. Friendly front desk staff.

The staff were friendly but the breakfast was very minimal. Also the shower didn’t work most of the time. Additionally, no AC and the room was filled with flies and mosquitos prior to arrival due to all the windows being opened. It was very hot and humid in the room. You get what you pay for. In a good area tho.

The hotel was a good value for the location. There were minimal amenities and at times I felt as though I was in a hostel. The walls were super thin. There was no water provided without purchase. However, the breakfast was amazing and the location to the train and entrance to Machu Picchu could not be better.
