We had an incredible stay here. The staff were so helpful and very responsive. Damiano is an asset to the hotel. We stayed in the room with a terrace , the terrace is large and had the most wonderful view. We made use of the private spa and massages which was an amazing experience. The hotel is a short walk ( down quite a few steps) from the main part of the old town. Quiet at night but close to all the sites. Would highly recommend.

Amazing room (had room with jacuzzi), nice staff. Would be nice if they have free shuttle, because it's forbidden to go by car to the hotel. For taxi they charging 15eur

We had an amazing stay at the Cenobio Hotel! It can be a bit tricky to find if it's your first time in Matera, and you can't drive directly to the hotel. Plus, there are some steps to navigate both downhill and uphill. Knowing this from other reviews, we contacted the hotel before our arrival. They arranged a shuttle from the car park, which made things super easy for us. I highly recommend doing this if you're planning to stay here. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, making us feel right at home. Matera, and especially our stay at the Cenobio Hotel, turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip to Italy.

Parken, Einchecken alles in Ordnung. Der teuer gebuchte Whirlpool funktionierte nur am ersten Tag. Die Entfeuchtungsanlagen laufen auch Nacht`s sehr laut. Schlafen schlecht möglich. Service am Abend nur über Whatsapp. Zur 2. Nacht Entfeuchtungsanlagen abgestellt, aber der Whirlpool funktionierte nicht. Mann sagte uns, Sie hätten ein Reset mit der Bedienung machen können. Aber da war ich aus dem Whirlpool wieder raus. Über die laute Entfeuchtungsanlage sagte man uns, es hätte sich noch niemand beschwert. Falsche Auskunft- einfach mal die Bewertungen bei Google lesen, es haben sich auch andere schon beschwert. Und man liesst immer wieder auf Beschwerden folgende Antworten: - Hätten sie doch vor Ort gleich gesagt, wenn etwas nicht funktioniert.- Sehr guter Service reagiert nicht auf Fehler, sondern merkt diese bei der täglichen Arbeit. Es wird natürlich versucht noch am Preis entgegen zu kommen, aber das ist nicht mein Stil und realistische, ehrliche Bewertungen ergeben sich nicht daraus. Es gibt bestimmt sehr viele diese Anlagen, das Cenobio Hotel käme für uns nicht mehr in Frage.

O Hotel é bem bonito, quarto lindo. Bem limpo. Café da manhã gostoso. E como se trata de uma parte da cidade que só entra carro se for cadastrado de nativos, precisa deixar o carro em um estacionamento na cidade, indicado pelo hotel, e se estiver com mala, precisa chamar o carro do hotel para transporte, se paga 15 euros pelo serviço, pois é longe e o caminho cheio de subidas e escadas. Se colocar o nome do hotel ou endereço no Google maps, a localização não leva ao local correto, então, precisa ligar para a recepção qdo estiver na praça principal para que alguem vá encontrar para levar ao hotel, caso resolva ir a pé do estacionamento, ou não esteja de carro. A cidade é linda.

Adoramos a estada no Cenóbio Hotel. Ficamos na suíte dentro de uma gruta. Uma experiência incrível, como sonhávamos. Suíte impecável, cama confortável e tudo necessário para uma estadia perfeita. Contratamos um transfer pelo hotel e quando chegamos ao ponto de encontro, a equipe já estava ao nosso aguardo para carregar a mala, já que o hotel fica em um local que não transita carros. Excelente! E melhor ainda foi o concierge, Mario, que nos deu duas dicas de restaurantes excelentes e ainda fez a reserva para nós . Tudo excepcional!

Beautiful property. Rooms with an extraordinary view. Shower is amazing and the bed very comfortable. The private spa is super cool. Delicious breakfast. We had an amazing stay and hope to be back one day. Thanks to Ivana, Samir and Mario for a wonderful experience at Cenobio hotel.

Fantastic hotel - great location, spacious rooms and helpful staff. The breakfast was great and the shuttle service was a must to get to the hotel from the recommended car park which the hotel organised.

Incrível, staff bem preparado e pronto para ajudar. A localização é muito boa, bem próxima do Duomo (atenção de qualquer forma em Matera você anda bastante). O carro fica afastado, mas oferecem um serviço pago que te deixa próximo do hotel. Tem uma área Spa bem equipada e boa (mas também com pagamento extra).Só o café da manhã que poderia ter um pouco melhor (mas me parece que eles não tem cozinha) por isso não há opções quentes como ovos …Mas o hotel, estrutura e staff estão de parabéns .

Mario has been helping us to navigate around the town and book transfer for us. He addresses us with our names and makes us feels like home in this old ancient city. We love our stay in Cenobio and the room is fantastic and clean. It's an experience to stay in a cave room

Beautiful room, set in a cave. Very clean. Free continental breakfast was excellent. All staff especially Samir and Mario were excellent to deal with and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at Cenobio lived up to the expectations we had based on previous reviews we had read. The hotel truly felt like an extension of the overall Matera world bringing the cave experience to life albeit with the luxury one would expect of a 5-star hotel. We had just a 1-night stay as a family of 4 including our 2 near adult teenagers. We had a spacious family suite which had a half-split level - twin beds on the mezzanine overlooking the rooms below and a queen at the rear. The suite felt spacious and was tastefully presented matching the stone work, it was spotlessly clean and benefited from a generous bathroom with a lovely rain forest shower. The pre-check-in comms from the hotel was excellent. They reached out a few days in advance to guide on parking and transfer options (the hotel cannot be accessed by car). We were light on luggage and chose to walk from the parking garage to the hotel through the streets of Matera. Breakfast was typical of our Italian experiences, offered a range of cereals, pastries, cakes, cold meats etc with the obligatory Italian coffee. All thoroughly enjoyed by our family of 4. The setting of the hotel is superb with Matera one of the most amazing spots we have visited. Our choice of hotel while at the higher end from a cost perspective, truly added to the holiday. A wonderful stay.

Damiano and Samir were so wonderful and helped us have a fantastic stay. Very communicative and helpful. The hotel is clean, beautiful, and peaceful. Breakfast is fresh and tasty. And the shower was amazing!

Cenobio is easily one of my most favorite hotels. Staying at Cenobio was a unique experience and we hope to return one day. The hotel is very clean and the staff is the friendliest and most accommodating and helpful we encountered in all of Italy. Betty was very communicative and responsive in coordinating our arrival. She helped us arrange our parking and facilitated our transfer to the hotel. Damiano was very helpful once we arrived by helping with our luggage, walked us through a Matera map, and included recommendations for dining. He made reservations for our family of four at Annina, a unique dining experience in a cave and located just a few minutes away. We stayed in the family suite with the river view. The suite had modern amenities in an ancient location. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the AC was quiet and effective (a must when visiting Matera in July). Like someone previously mentioned about the overall Matera experience, there are stairs everywhere. So be prepared, but do not let it deter you from the experience, and especially from staying at Cenobio. Highly recommend!

We had an incredible stay here. The staff were so helpful and very responsive. Damiano is an asset to the hotel. We stayed in the room with a terrace , the terrace is large and had the most wonderful view. We made use of the private spa and massages which was an amazing experience. The hotel is a short walk ( down quite a few steps) from the main part of the old town. Quiet at night but close to all the sites. Would highly recommend.

Der Transfer vom Parking zum Hotel lohnt sich: Samir holt Euch am Piazzo Duomo ab. Das Zimmer ist sehr gross und modern eingerichtet. Sehr grosses Bad. Der Empfang von Damiano weltklasse. Our stay at Cenobio lived up to the expectations we had based on previous reviews we had read. The hotel truly felt like an extension of the overall Matera world bringing the cave experience to life albeit with the luxury one would expect of a 5-star hotel. We had just a 1-night stay as a family of 4 including our 2 near adult teenagers. We had a spacious family suite which had a half-split level - twin beds on the mezzanine overlooking the rooms below and a queen at the rear. The suite felt spacious and was tastefully presented matching the stone work, it was spotlessly clean and benefited from a generous bathroom with a lovely rain forest shower. The pre-check-in comms from the hotel was excellent. They reached out a few days in advance to guide on parking and transfer options (the hotel cannot be accessed by car). We were light on luggage and chose to walk from the parking garage to the hotel through the streets of Matera. Breakfast was typical of our Italian experiences, offered a range of cereals, pastries, cakes, cold meats etc with the obligatory Italian coffee. All thoroughly enjoyed by our family of 4. The setting of the hotel is superb with Matera one of the most amazing spots we have visited. Our choice of hotel while at the higher end from a cost perspective, truly added to the holiday. A wonderful stay.

Fantastic location with great views across the gorge. This means that access is not great. The (paid) parking is a little way away, although a transfer can be arranged - for a fee. We had a suite, which was very atmospheric, but a couple of slight niggles - just one comfortable chair and as other reviewers have mentioned, the air con and dehumidifier are a little noisy. All the towels were changed daily - unnecessary for a two night stay, with no obvious way of saying not needed. The ‘glasses’ for both the minibar and in the bathroom are plastic, which doesn’t feel right for a hotel of this obvious quality. The breakfast was good with a large range of the foods. Due to limitations of space only small quantities are put out at a time, but they were replenished regularly, and if something was missing, you just had to ask. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience in Matera, which is a beautiful town not to be missed.

Nice place, beautiful rooms, great breakfast and charming staff. Some issues with the bed, which was resolved but could have been with better quality. AC unit was ok but not cooling to the degree we expected it to and the internet connection fairly poor during the two days of our stay.

It was a wonderful stay. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. If you are driving make sure to get in touch with hotel prior to arrival to make necessary parking arrangements. They will send shuttle for you, at extra cost, but totally worth it to transport your luggage to hotel. I'd definitely stay again!

Adoramos a estada no Cenóbio Hotel. Ficamos na suíte dentro de uma gruta. Uma experiência incrível, como sonhávamos. Suíte impecável, cama confortável e tudo necessário para uma estadia perfeita. Contratamos um transfer pelo hotel e quando chegamos ao ponto de encontro, a equipe já estava ao nosso aguardo para carregar a mala, já que o hotel fica em um local que não transita carros. Excelente! E melhor ainda foi o concierge, Mario, que nos deu duas dicas de restaurantes excelentes e ainda fez a reserva para nós . Tudo excepcional!

I did not like that when I first requested parking it was not communicated that the acces to the hotel by car was not permitted. I made the reservation and counted on the information provided on your site, which did not warn of any issues regarding parking. The hotel advertised that parking was available and it was it. Between my reservation and checking, the hotel sent me information by mail warning me about the need to park outside the ZTL area and gave me instructions about parking. Unfortunately, by the time I read the hotel message I had already attempted to go straight to the hotel, which I later found that it wasn’t possible and had actually committed a traffic offense for entering the ZTL zone by car (I went in and out right away after being warned by a resident that I had committed a traffic violation). The traffic violation has not arrived but after searching for information about this, I learned the fine would be considerable - between 90 and 180 euros! I believe the whole thing was a bad experience that could have been avoided if given the right information when making rhe reservation online. Not fair, and not a good busines practice.

This hotel was amazing and the service was even better. We decided to walk through Matera from the parking structure to the hotel but got lost. One of the staff members walked out to find us and bring us to the hotel. Then, because it was late, he called a local restaurant and asked them to keep the kitchen open while we hurried down to have dinner.

We absolutely loved our stay. Very attentive before our arrival, arranging our parking and shuttle to the hotel. Once at the hotel the staff was so kind and friendly and offered recommendations. The room itself was better than expected and the buffet breakfast had a great selection. Best of all, it was quiet at night allowing us to actually get a good nights sleep.

Amazing Room & staff especially Mario , fantastic personality, helpful , who greeted us at the top of the stairs where the taxi dropped us off & carried our luggage down 80 steps to our room. Breakfast offered was so good with fresh bakery goods and yummy cappuccino. Come to this hotel, it is next door to the sextantio where our friends stayed and struggled with lighting in their rooms. Say hi to Mario!

Beautiful hotel update in the old city. The hotel and staff were very welcoming and attentive. The views are amazing. Be aware there are many many steps to go anywhere in the old city…uneven, rocky and challenging to navigate. If you have any physical walking challenges you might find the hotel location problematic. Do yourself a favor, take a taxi and then you can have them meet you and help with your luggage.

We had an amazing stay at the Cenobio Hotel! It can be a bit tricky to find if it's your first time in Matera, and you can't drive directly to the hotel. Plus, there are some steps to navigate both downhill and uphill. Knowing this from other reviews, we contacted the hotel before our arrival. They arranged a shuttle from the car park, which made things super easy for us. I highly recommend doing this if you're planning to stay here. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, making us feel right at home. Matera, and especially our stay at the Cenobio Hotel, turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip to Italy.

We absolutely loved our stay. Very attentive before our arrival, arranging our parking and shuttle to the hotel. Once at the hotel the staff was so kind and friendly and offered recommendations. The room itself was better than expected and the buffet breakfast had a great selection. Best of all, it was quiet at night allowing us to actually get a good nights sleep.

Fantastic hotel - great location, spacious rooms and helpful staff. The breakfast was great and the shuttle service was a must to get to the hotel from the recommended car park which the hotel organised.

Incrível, staff bem preparado e pronto para ajudar. A localização é muito boa, bem próxima do Duomo (atenção de qualquer forma em Matera você anda bastante). O carro fica afastado, mas oferecem um serviço pago que te deixa próximo do hotel. Tem uma área Spa bem equipada e boa (mas também com pagamento extra).Só o café da manhã que poderia ter um pouco melhor (mas me parece que eles não tem cozinha) por isso não há opções quentes como ovos …Mas o hotel, estrutura e staff estão de parabéns .

We absolutely loved our stay at Cenobio Hotel in Matera. Staying in a cave hotel was such a unique experience and felt like the perfect way to experience the Sassi, while still being incredibly comfortable. The climate-controlled air conditioning worked wonderfully, and the room was a welcome retreat after spending the day exploring Matera. What really made our stay exceptional, though, was Mario. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to take care of us. He met us in the piazza where our taxi dropped us off and helped us carry our luggage to the hotel, which we greatly appreciated given Matera’s many steps and stone streets! He was also incredibly helpful during our stay, including assisting us with restaurant reservations. The combination of the beautiful cave accommodations, wonderful location, and genuinely personal hospitality made this one of the memorable stays of our trip through Italy. We would highly recommend Cenobio to anyone visiting Matera and would happily stay here again.

Excelente experiência! O quarto era muito confortável, espaçoso, bem decorado e extremamente limpo, com uma cama muito confortável e todos os cuidados necessários para uma ótima estadia. O hotel é muito agradável e o atendimento da equipe foi excelente, sempre muito atencioso e prestativo.
