Very comfortably stay.Lovely setting i.e. gardens,pool, able to walk around and enjoy the surrounds, staff friendly.Nice way to finish off my 3week stay in Sth Africa.

Stayed one night near the airport to flight back home the next day. Didn’t get to see the surroundings so I have no opinion. Clean room, good and convenient meals on site. Good service. Nice garden a pool.

Excellent guesthouse! Here are the things I loved most about this hotel: very comfortable bed, strong wifi signal, free airport shuttle, responsive staff, delicious meals (dinner and breakfast) at more than reasonable cost, working flatscreen television with English entertainment and news channels, electric kettle with tea and coffee making supplies, microwave and fridge in room (not in all rooms, so this was a major bonus!), nice shower with excellent pressure and hot water, quiet place to rest one’s head before an early departure, seamless airport to hotel connection, efficient and friendly staff, bar and restaurant on site. The property also has a swimming pool, but I did not use this during my stay! I had a terrific stay at this guesthouse - it would likewise be my preferred choice the next time I am in Johannesburg. Thank you so much!

Stayed 4 nights, Staff happy and polite. Food was basic, cooked but not prepared on site. The ice cream was worth having with every meal, which I did. No air conditioning. The airplane noise was not that intrusive. The pool was cleaned every day. The shower ran hot and cold when it felt like it. Overall good value for money. Would not want to stay there long term. Would I stay there next time I was in Johannesburg, I definitely would.

No soap to wash hands. Beds were just a bed base without the mattress the rooms smelt like dog flea wash and was very overpowering to the senses and it did not leave the room. The doors do not fit the spaces so there are huge gaps for insects to come in. The Tv did not work, it turned on but were unable To get any channels. The bedspread on one of the single beds had a huge hole that looked like an animal had been digging in it. Very outdated tea and coffee left in the room but no milk to facilitate making any. but on a positive note the meals were exceptional.

Good value hotel near the airport. I was collected, as scheduled, from the terminal which is a few minutes from the hotel. Staff were friendl, WiFi decent and the room was comfortable. No complaints, would stay again.

The transport shuttle service was brilliant, at check-in everything was great. The outside appearance of the property looked lovely, BUT the room I was given was awful!. No curtains in the bathroom, the ceiling was covered in black mould, and the floor looked yucky.

Cama dura, chuveiro gelado e ruim, quarto sujo... muita formiga e percevejo. E cafe da manha ruim. Nem perguntaram o que queríamos.. nao tinha opção para comer e nao tinha buffet. Atendimento péssimo da recepção!

Hotell nära flygplatsen, så det var bra. Skönt att man kunde få transfer till och från. Men väldigt högljudda rum, hörde flyg och människor både ovanför och utanför som gjorde att själva natten blev sådär. Utbudet på middag och frukost begränsat och sisådär.

This was for us a noisy night. We had workers outside the back of room, very noisy with cars and commotion. The beds were hard and uncomfortable.

Temperature was 4° room must have a heating system but no heat all night freezing

The staff were good. The meals were nice in the restaurant. The beds were comfortable though small doubles. No fans in the toilet / shower. No air con or heater for that matter. Needs some maintenance. Close to airport. Not close to shopping centre you could walk to. Front room was very noisy from internal car and bike traffic. Away from the driveway was a lot quieter

No heating in the non-insulated room . Was very cold through the night.

À notre arrivée, la chambre prévue n’était plus disponible et nous avons tous été séparés dans des chambres à l’opposé l’une de l’autre. Il faisait extrêmement froid, sans chauffage, et le matelas était très dur. Le monsieur (Ricardo) qui est venu nous chercher à l’aéroport était très sympathique!

I paid for two nights but had to cut my losses and leave after the first night and pay for somewhere else. It was a smooth airport pickup and checking-in. Great job on that. However, the room was really cold. This is late May 2025. I went back to the front desk and reported this. They had to get someone to turn the heater unit on from the outside. It find it lacking that they had prepared the room and keys for an easy check-in but had not turned the heat on. So the person did turn the heat on but the panel heating panel on the wall was totally inadequate to heat the room. I checked in, in the late afternoon, until 10 pm there was still little or not heat and I still had to be in my street clothes and coat. By then it was obvious that it was not getting any warmer, I went back to the front desk to request a change of room. I was told that all the rooms are like that and was given three or 4 blankets. I ended up sleeping in my full street attire with the use of the blankets. I just found another place online and checked out the next morning. Upon checkout they asked me if I was not staying the two nights, I told her no, because it was too cold and I don't want to get sick. She said OK and not not even a word or gesture of apology. Normally I'd try to get a refund but I am a lone traveler in a strange country and want no issues so I just forgot about it.

This place is cheap but it really isn’t worth it. The hourly shuttle pickup from OR Tambo was 30 minutes late. The room was tatty, run down and full of mosquitoes

The property is so nice with very good receptionists. Very close to the airport and the shuttle service is commendable. This will be my first option whenever in Joburg

I arrived late. The guesthouse was informed about that. Once I reached the place nobody opened. The area is not nice and the place doesn't reply to phone calls, ringing or even blowing the horn of the taxi. Stay away from it. There are better places in better areas for less money. I was luck the taxi driver took me.to a different place where I can now stay and enjoy my first day in South Africa after the nightmare I had with this unreliable guest house. Stay away from it! The don"t even open the door!

I had the unfortunate event of missing connecting flights and only making it back to south Africa a day later. My plane landed close to 11pm (which was their cut off time) and the team stayed up close to midnight to make arrangements to come and fetch me and bring me to the lodge despite it being so late for them I really appreciated their hospitality as well as their friendly smiles after a very stressful 2 days of travelling and frustration between delayed flights and having to rebook new ones I will definitely consider them in future bookings Yolande

I’m extreme unhappy about this place. I went through the liberty to send a mail befor my departure in the USA informing them that I’ll be coming in late.I booked this place cause it was cheep and the had free shuttle service. I got out from collecting my luggage and made my way to where the shuttles pick you up. This was around 23h11. I was told by the people around there don’t worry they will come and get you. We tried to call the hotel several times with no response what’s so ever. I tried to rent a car to get to the hotel my self but as luck has it. One can not ret a car after 12 am. I then paid a Uber driver to take me there. We stood at the gate for about 20 min continuously pressing the bell so they can open up. But Nothing. The Uber driver said when we got there he knows this place and they have these kinda problems. I had to come back to the airport and wait for 7hours to get a car rented. All and all I departed from the USA Sunday morning. It’s now Thursday morning 5am. I haven’t slept and I’m exceptionally upset about this.

Reliable and safe shuttle service from and to airport. Super friendly stuff. Great choice when you arrive late and need a good place to spend a night very close to airport.

Great little place too stay for overnight transit for Joburg International airport. Great breakfast and very friendly staff, with every hour drop off in the mornings to the airport.

I never got in. No staff to open gate. They knew I arrive after 11.30pm and there was no one there to let me in. I slept in car at airport car park!!!!!! I want my money back!

Was oké, voor 1 nacht niet meer. Hard bed wel en veel omgeving geluiden (vliegveld en snelweg). Ontbijt was ook oké, maar niet veel. Maar was ook niet duur::

Breakfast was basic but ok

I previously stayed at Emerald Guesthouse for two nights, around 11 days before this second stay. Very easy to sign up for the shuttle when you check in, to take you from Emerald Guest to either the nearest train station (fast train takes you to Hop on Hop Off bus ticket office) or other places. or of course the airport which is about five minutes at most in the van. To catch the bus from the airport you just walk to the bus station part of the airport which is about a two minute walk from International Arrivals (try to avoid the porters or the people at the information counter there, who will ask you for money for lunch if you stand around there too long). Shuttle van leaves the airport bus stop at the start of each hour so you don't have to annoyingly phone the driver or anything, you just approach him when the van arrives. You'll quickly work out which guys work in the bus stop and are telling the buses, vans and shuttles where to park, so if you've arrived just after the hour ask one of them if it has come yet. They do know. You also get free breakfast which you pick from a menu what you want included when you check in. It's not huge but it is good. The place is pretty basic looking, but it is all you need and was very cheap when I booked. Complex is fenced for our safety. Kitchen staff, check in staff and the free shuttle driver are all really friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to book to stay here again next time visit Johannesburg.

This was a great, inexpensive place to stay for an airport layover. It was easy to arrange transport from the airport to the guesthouse, and everything was on-time, with a nice packed breakfast for early departures.

Stayed here on two occasions in November 2025. Great place to stay with a free van shuttle to get you to and from the airport. You can also get dropped off at the nearby train station, which is a lot cheaper to get on the same train than from the airport station. I did the Hop on Hop Off bus so caught the train to Rosebank, the place where you show your Get Your Guide/Wotif/Viator voucher and they issue a bus ticket. The train is clean, fast and there's heaps of security/police around. There's also a few supermarkets at that Rosebank stop as there's a few big shopping centres there. After finishing Hop On Hop Off I caught the train to the airport and just caught the free shuttle back to Emerald Guesthouse from there. Free breakfast, friendly staff. You can also buy dinner there too if you're hungry when you arrive. A few friendly feline residents too hang around the reception/breakfast buildings. Will book there again whenever return to Johannesburg.
