Had a lovely stay here. It was very peaceful, the room was lovely and staff were good. Ate at the restaurant which was delicious and nice staff. Had a massage which was brilliant. The brewery was fantastic, definitely a highlight and only a couple minutes walk away. From other reviews, there were some cobwebs on the outside of the window but that really didn’t bother us. Overall, lovely place to stay. Nice and quiet!

Had a Great stay at “The Retreat”… It’s a quiet place, near Bransgore and Christchurch. An excellent restaurant and loads of classes on the ground floor through the day time. I’ve given it 5 stars because it’s exactly what I wanted however the reviews that are low reflect an “expectation problem. Guests need to read the information about the place before booking. Travel lodge are Premier Inn can be found nearby.. If it’s a tailor made cosy hideaway your after this is it

The room was nice and clean. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast was very expensive so I didn't bother with it and found somewhere else local to get my breakfast.

Very cosy and nice place to stay, I came with my two dog, dog friendly place, they have dog bowl, dog bed and special treats for them when we arrive. I’m very please and super satisfied from that place. Lovely walk with my dogs around and the coffee place are very friendly and great vegan food.

We stayed for a week getting to know the area and as a base to see some friends nearby. Only managed one yoga class; would have liked to have done at least one more. The restaurant on site gave us options, as did the large patio area at the back, giving us a peaceful spot for a picnic. Easy enclosed walk around large field around back perfect for a dog walk. The hotel is on a busy road, but this does give east access to seaside and New Forest. A fridge in room would have been helpful to keep milk and drinks cold - it was 30 degrees most days.

We loved the self check-in, made everything very quick and easy. Room we absolutely fine, clean and comfortable. We were at the front so had a little road noise but it wasn’t a problem and we slept well. Plenty of parking so that’s always a bonus. Breakfast in the nearby Colin Nash restaurant was excellent. A really good full-English. Will definitely stay here again.

Not really a hotel as there is not front desk or bar just bedrooms ( and healing therapies if thats your reason to be there)but a very nice place to stay with large rooms and easy to find and travel around. All rooms up a flight of stairs with key codes to gain access.Excellent restaurant situated right next door for breakfast lunch or dinner with a lovely bar ,which is also dog friendly. Good grounds and perfect if you want to chill outside after a days sightseeing and good for walking the dog. Road side rooms very noisy when the windows are open. They did pop some ear plugs on the bedside table but these not really good enough to block the noise completely. Had a fan in the room which was great due to the hot weather.

This has to be the best hotel I have stayed in for dog walking. It has a restaurant next door that serves excellent food sourced locally. A bit more expensive than a pub chain but well worth it. The same with the breakfast which was excellent. And the bonus is we could eat in the dog friendly area with our dog.

The retreat is quite an old building but nice inside. I was unaware of any lift indoors which made climbing stairs difficult for people with mobility challenges.

My room was at the front of the property & road noise was an issue. Room was tired, single glazing & had a few cobwebs. I walked a bit around the grounds but wirh no clear pathways, I was unsure if I was trespassing. Overall the building is in needif repair.

This properly looked idilic from the pictures, but what they don’t tell you is it’s right next to a main road. I thought the ear plugs were a nice touch but soon realised they were a must as there was constant traffic and also sounded like a tap was running constantly. The coffee was disgusting and the sugar stollen from a McDonald’s. There was mould on the wall paper and you couldn’t open the windows. The bed was so uncomfortable I barely slept and woke up with back ache in the morning.

Very nice , location ok, grounds nice , our room next to road so a bit noisy but didn’t keep us awake. Room a bit dusty but nice towels and bath. Restaurant very taste but a bit more than normal price wise

I wasn't expecting a lot as I'd booked a single room and it was quite cheap. On arrival the check in process was very easy exactly as per the instructions sent out. When I went into the room, Wow! I'd obviously been upgraded to a large room with king size bed rolltop bath and walk in shower. Pressure on the shower was also excellent. Room was spotlessly clean. With the ample free parking it was a perfect stay. When I'm back in the area this is the first place I'll be looking to stay

On arrival the place felt calm and set in a beautiful area, the staff were lovely and very friendly, I cannot fault their service at all. The room was fabulous, everything was clean and the bed was very comfortable with great views of the grounds. The shower was amazing and it was the perfect place for my night away for my birthday. Cannot recommend it enough, wonderful place.

Had a very comfortable night's sleep and the room was exceptionally clean. The quality of the bedding and towels were also first class. WiFi was more than adequate and the room temperature was perfect.

Lovely hotel, my room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Strange not having a reception but all the access codes worked although I had to chase them as they weren’t emailed to me as advised. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and sorted quickly. My room was at the back overlooking the garden so was very quiet.

We had a wonderful big room. It looked al little bit old but it had a nice atmosphere. We could make us some tea or coffee and had a wonderful view. Nice bathroom also. There was no reception but the restaurant took over this task. Only the toilet was filthy when we arrived. It had several yellow drops under the toilet seat! :(

Very spacious rooms. Very quiet considering it was dog friendly. Room was upgraded to one with a bath at no extra touch which spoke volumes about the owners. Great location and would definitley stay there again

Very comfortable and clean room. Unfortunately single glazed windows by a busy road (24hrs a day) means you need to use the provided earplugs. There is tea and coffee in the room but for refreshments etc you need to go to the nice but pricey pub restaurant next door. Just for a touring place is in a good position. No plug in bathroom sink and the main front door code got changed on day 2 and we were not told. Is not as nice as looks in the photos but if could get a room at the back would go back as is in a nice position for touring New forest and surrounding area.

Bedrooms at the back are lovely and quiet. Bedrooms at the front will have traffic noise but not through the night. The rooms are well furnished and stylish, towels are lovely and thick and soft! Our room wasn’t serviced between our 2 days stay but we rang for towels which were delivered within 20 mins. Fantastic restaurant next door. Good value for money and would stay again.

Superb hotel room, exceptionally clean and quite spacious for a single. Comfortable but quite soft bed, great bedding. Good bathroom with walk-in shower, no bath however I always shower, and great towels. Large TV, full length mirror, plenty of tea & coffee. HOWEVER UNABLE TO SLEEP ALL 3 NIGHTS THROUGH TRAFFIC NOISE. THIS WAS WEARING PROVIDED EARPLUGS. I appreciate it is a listed building however coming from Stratford on Avon we have a lot of listed hotels with secondary/even triple double glazing. Only 15 bedrooms need it. The only other negative there was no Reception desk and rooms and front door were coded locks. Such a crying shame when the hotel I would have awarded 9 star.

Lovely place in the New Forest, easy to find but lives up to is name of "Retreat". Everything was really nice, bathroom was enormous with a large tub. Shower was blocked so avoided but didn't cause issues. When we did have an issue with the door it was sorted in person straightaway. Only marked down "comfort" because the mattress was too firm, but that's each to their own.

Nice old converted country Manor House. Room was super! Huge and nicely decorated shower was excellent. What a little gem this was only 14 mins from airport as well. Nice.

I had a couple of minor issues when I arrived and the staff were amazing! The room was nice, the grounds were nice and the people were wonderful!

Lovely hotel, my room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Strange not having a reception but all the access codes worked although I had to chase them as they weren’t emailed to me as advised. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and sorted quickly. My room was at the back overlooking the garden so was very quiet.

Arrived at 17.00. No staff. Main door locked. Codes for main door and room sent during the day by e.mail unknown to me. Got help from adjacent cafe. Once inside the main facilities were good. Found irons and boards in corridor. Unfortunately, the 1st iron did not get hot and the 2nd fused the main power when plugged in. No staff to report to. Could be a very dangerous situation. Never saw a member of the hotel staff at any time during our stay. We checked out at the stipulated time 10.00.

Property was supposed to email us 72 hours in advance with entry codes as is not a hotel but an unstaffed building requiring entry codes to front door and room but no advance email received. Had to write hours before arriving to obtain.

Great hotel, warm, comfy and clean. Great location and buetifull. Very dog friendly and the room was very spacious. Downside was the no reception and self check in with door codes. Communication was poor to start with as I tried calling the hotel a few times to gain clarity of how to check in. Eventually I received communication from them in a form of an email.

Really lovely hotel for a long weekend. It is on a main road but we had a back facing room so couldn’t hear any traffic noise. You do need to drive or take a taxi to get to the closest town for dinner options - although the on site restaurant was very nice for breakfast.

We stayed for a week getting to know the area and as a base to see some friends nearby. Only managed one yoga class; would have liked to have done at least one more. The restaurant on site gave us options, as did the large patio area at the back, giving us a peaceful spot for a picnic. Easy enclosed walk around large field around back perfect for a dog walk. The hotel is on a busy road, but this does give east access to seaside and New Forest. A fridge in room would have been helpful to keep milk and drinks cold - it was 30 degrees most days.

Nice old converted country Manor House. Room was super! Huge and nicely decorated shower was excellent. What a little gem this was only 14 mins from airport as well. Nice.

Had a lovely stay here. It was very peaceful, the room was lovely and staff were good. Ate at the restaurant which was delicious and nice staff. Had a massage which was brilliant. The brewery was fantastic, definitely a highlight and only a couple minutes walk away. From other reviews, there were some cobwebs on the outside of the window but that really didn’t bother us. Overall, lovely place to stay. Nice and quiet!

Not the best - it was okay. The overall building & grounds are nice. Nice looking restaurant & menu but definitely not cooked to the standard I'd expect for the price - just overpriced and small portions (you know the vibes!). Staff friendly in the restaurant/bar - but staff on the phone not great at answering (within the alloted business hours stated). I had the eco/budget room so I can't complain about the tiny room & single bed etc, but just a warning - you need to squeeze your case in the wardrobe otherwise, there is no room to move. It was okay - there were lots of activities I wanted to partake in but I didn't find it clear to book online etc. When I eventually found the prices of the events, I decided to give it a miss. The grounds are beautiful though and I'm sure the Pilates studio was very nice (looked nice from the outside). They told me to text ahead of arrival but didn't receive confirmation of receipt (confused me as to why I had to do this). Quite old/worn bathroom & general decor within the room. I left 3 days early due to personal circumstances, but didn't feel like I knew what was going on really within the hotel, in terms of facilities available and events taking place. Nothing horrendous but maybe get a better room than I got (pay more) & don't get as excited about the Colin Nash restaurant as I did.

This place advertises having a resturant but it does not, it has a vegitarian cafe next door with very limited opening hours, closes between 3:30 and 4:00pm They also mention being able to get a drink, this again is not true. Finally the name retreat would lead you to beleave the place will be a retreat for rest.... Untrue, the front rooms face the rather busy A35 which is exceptionally noisy and with no air conditioning, this is not a place to stay in the summer months.

We loved the self check-in, made everything very quick and easy. Room we absolutely fine, clean and comfortable. We were at the front so had a little road noise but it wasn’t a problem and we slept well. Plenty of parking so that’s always a bonus. Breakfast in the nearby Colin Nash restaurant was excellent. A really good full-English. Will definitely stay here again.

Food was excellent. Loads of secure parking spaces. My only complaint was that Room 3 didn't have a chest of drawers so that I could unpack. As an aside I was bitten to death by moquitos? on the night before I left {I believe it was a habit of the cleaning staff to leave the windows open a few inches during the day}

This has to be the best hotel I have stayed in for dog walking. It has a restaurant next door that serves excellent food sourced locally. A bit more expensive than a pub chain but well worth it. The same with the breakfast which was excellent. And the bonus is we could eat in the dog friendly area with our dog.

We arrived at lunchtime, but no food was available at the cafe. Breakfast, which was booked via e mail, but not confirmed, was not available until 09.00 when it was advertised as 08.30. Since we had a funeral to attend at 10.00 this was no use to us. The room was clean but the bathroom smelt of drains and the blind would not completely lower. Since the hotel is on the main road, this was tricky!

I only stayed one night as a break in the middle of a long journey and really enjoyed my stay. The room was comfortable and the staff extremely helpful. They helped me with my luggage (I am disabled) and parking was great. The restaurant next door is very convenient, with a pleasant coffee area, and again the staff there are very helpful.

We would rate our stay as 3 stars at best. Our room faced the main road beyond the car park and, whilst it was generally clean and reasonably presented, was noisy. The sash windows only have single glazing so even with the window shut you can still hear the traffic from the busy road. Earplugs were provided, so it is obviously a known problem. The bed in our room was not that comfortable either, probably due to the age of the mattress, which made us roll towards the middle. We were there for 3 nights, so did use some of the tea bags provided. Unfortunately we found that tea bags were not replaced daily on a like for like basis i.e. the 'everyday' style tea bags we like were replaced with camomile tea bags some days, which we do not like. We never saw any staff to try and resolve this at the time. Anyone wanting breakfast has to go and make their own arrangements at the restaurant attached to the hotel. It would have been nice to have the option to book breakfast at the same time as the accommodation, perhaps discounted if you are staying at the hotel.
