Tristar Inn Xpress

The property is a bit dated but everything was clean. Felt safe. There were not a lot guests. Did not check out the pool or laundry facilities. The guy that runs the place and the bar is really great. Bar is pretty awesome, especially if you like bourbon! I would probably stay here again if passing through.

The hotel is quaint, loved the 80's music playing in the bar. The bed was extra firm which is not my favorite, but the room was clean and had decent amenities. Would definitely stay there again anytime.

Friendly service by the owner. The place is very classic and vintage style but very clean and no evidence of bugs. The bed was very comfortable and the owner was very accommodating at the bar, which was a great place to hang out after a long trip. Recommended!

Room was older but clean and I like parking in front of your room. Seemed a good price and easy to check in. Everything seemed to worked fine though there was an air bulge in the tub which was wierd. Bed was good as was the ac!

The bar on property gave us a nice way to unwind from a long day of travel. We would happily stay here again.

This is an older motel, without a breakfast option. But, that being said, the prices were very reasonable and the service was great. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were extremely spacious. This would be a great place for a family with a lot of "stuff" to stay.

Located on the original Rt 66, the Tristar Inn is a diamond in the rough, full of nostalgic charm. The owner, Mike, was great & got us checked in quickly. We spent a couple hours in the very well stocked hotel bar (with a pool table) where we enjoyed a few beers & pizza before turning in. Our room was very clean, spacious & comfortable with everything we needed. Fun to think we’re now a part of this cool hotels new history. We’ll be sure to stop again on our next trip through.

Traveling cross country and wanted to stay on Route 66. Cute hotel it is older, but clean!! Love the table in our room since we brought dinner back to the room. Has a full bar, but not a restaurant-there are several options close. Laundry and ice are convenient. Mike was very welcoming.

Cut to the chase, if you are in the area, choose this place. Very, very clean room. On property bar had locals and out of towners (like me), reasonably priced (full) bar and room. And yes, Mike was an actual person and he runs the place, you will read about him in other reviews. Mike is just enough friendly and enough removed to be professional. I hope that I have another opportunity to visit. This is an older Route 66 motel in the best way.

Previous reviews were really good is why we chose this overnight stay. This is close to the worst place i have stayed in. We were told the room had been recently renovated. It had super old and dirty furniture (I did not want to set anything on them). Had some bugs (not bed bugs) and a few mosquitoes i our room. The shower looked recently done but did not drain. If we weren't so tired I think we would have looked elsewhere. Ya get what ya pay for as the price was the best thing going for this place.

In addition, the room had a tv with lots of channels to choose from, a microwave, coffee maker and blow dryer. There is also a coin operated washing machine/dryer and an ice machine with plenty of ice. We will be back!

The room was very clean. The outside of the building/property looks rundown like most motels in Tucumcari, but the room was very clean. I would stay there again for my annual trip between Arizona and Minnesota.

Other than check-in being a bit longer than expected and a few hairs on the sheets of both beds, the big banana isn’t the fault of the hotel. Be aware that using a third-party to book a room means you’re stuck with what you get. We overlooked the small print: The tiny word that says SMOKING ROOM. The clerk, professional and courteous, offered an upgrade at a cost but emphasized they dog the room. It didn’t take long to adjust. It wasn’t near as bad as a smoking room on 14th St in NYC where rooms are rented by the hour, IF you know what I mean. In this era where smoking rooms are practically obsolete we “ass-umed” it was a nonsmoking room. In to the good stuff. Everything worked fine and the room’s mostly clean. Traffic noise wasn’t bad. Easy parking and on/off I10. Riverside restaurant is near and worth it! The smart TV is only smart if you have the matching Samsung phone. You get what you pay for and for less than 70 bucks it was worth it.

Everything was as advertised; clean, comfortable bed, nice hot water with pressure. We were one of two cars in the parking lot, so we had the run of the place! The owner was super nice and I enjoyed talking with him.

Bath tub and sink had white soap scum in it. Coffee pot dried coffee all over. The entire room smelled indescribable. Property should be condemned.

The price is good and the room was comfortable. Even the bed was nice and firm. Tristar is a perfect choice for heavy sleepers, but expect a train to go by and blow horns approximately every two hours.

As others have said, the greeting was very friendly. Although it is an older facility, it has been attentively cared for. There was a fridge and mucrowave and a recliner for watching tv. And, the toilet paper was soft and thick.

Room interior has been refreshed. New carpet, new furniture, bed was very comfortable. Kind of a nice surprise for an old Route 66 hotel.

The check in was fine. However, the heater ran all night, & I was still cold !! The TV was pretty small, with limited channels. And, I could not get on the WI-FI, despite many attempts.

This hotel was perfect for us passing through. The manager was friendly and courteous. He turned the heat on for us before we came. The room was very big and very quiet. Also clean. We had a great nights sleep. A good value.

I didn't stay because nobody would weight on me and there was vulgar rap music playing very loud. There was nobody in the office. I hollered for someone and nobody came out. So I left.

Mike, the owner, was so gracious. A quaint, and clean place to stay.

The owner was rude and told me that my dog should not be a service dog. He told me he didn’t care it was a service dog and was going to charge me extra for the dog. He lectured me for like 15 minutes about my dog not being a service dog and didn’t even give me the chance to defend my self on why he was a service dog.

Since the derecognizing of Route 66, most of the places along it have gone into decline. This property is among them. While the clerk was friendly, the property is worn and has seen a better day. It is honestly a bit sad in that I am guessing this place was pretty great back in the heyday of Route 66.

The motel is older but the room was fine. Neighborhood approaching the motel from the west felt pretty run down. Staff was very friendly

Clean and nice hotel. Great value. Family owned for decades I’m told. Only drawback was proximity to railroad tracks and trains at night.

It was on route 66

This place is right on the original Route 66. Coming from the West, it’s the first place you come to. Sadly the glory days of Route 66 are over but back in the day, this hotel was hopping. It has a beautiful stocked full bar area and a nice bar size pool table You can sense the thousands of guests that frequented the bar/restaurant along with a mix of locals that would come by to enjoy live music. Once a Ramada, it’s now the Tri-Star Inn Express and Mike, the owner recently celebrated 20 years at this location. He previously owned a hotel about 70 miles south of Tucumcari prior to settling in Tucumcari. As an immigrant, he moved his family from New York to the desert southwest decades ago. A hard working family man indeed, doing everything from repairs to cleaning toilets, making beds to making breakfast. He made it work. Covid hit and changed a lot. He struggled through it but now faces a depleted, unmotivated work force and no longer has the restaurant portion open. The business is for sale and I’m hoping the right person comes along to keep this place going. It needs a little TLC, a dedicated owner with community support and a free good employees. If I had the funds to buy it I would consider it and relocate to NM. Hopefully someone will come along. Mike, it was a pleasure to get to know you and visit during the two visits I made this summer. This is an extremely clean, basic hotel room Look at the price. The bed seemed brand new . The linens were clean. Tile floors made it even cleaner . Quiet. I felt safe. But, even better was Mike the owner and his friend Alf, who was visiting . There is a full bar on the premises. We sat there and had a couple of drinks and told tales back and forth . This will always be our nighttime destination on Interstate 40 in NM. Off the Interstate , but easy to find. Thank you for your hospitality.

Picked this hotel by chance but Mike, the manager/bartender, was very friendly and helpful. He has a full bar and helped us find food. Room was very clean and even had a small refrigerator and microwave.

Tucimcari is a place that many travelers just stop to rest during their long drives across the country. This hotel is a great place to stop, hang out with the ownee, play some pool, visit with some locals and you can be on your way the next morning!

We've stayed at this property many times and are always comfortable, rooms are always clean and the full bar is an excellent extra amenity with a fantastic host, Mike!
