Cairn Hotel Newcastle Jesmond - Part of the Cairn Collection

Friendly staff, clean place, potentially a bit noisy as our room was half way up a staircase and everyone in the place was up and down outside the door - it was ok as mid week and fairly quiet but I imagine a Friday or Saturday night might be a bit different. Breakfast perfectly good. I'd definitely return here. Parking is cramped and requires musical cars in the morning as everyone gets double parked just behind the hotel.

Not ideal for families or solo woman travelers. Cairn Hotel has two properties across the street from each other which I didn't realize until checking in. The one that the hotel addresses to is staffed and quiet. There was easy off street parking behind the building. My family and I were booked across the street where we were located next to and over a bar. It was a Monday night at 7pm when we arrived. The bar was full, and not with 'let's have an after work cocktail' crowd but rather 'let's drink until black out drunk' crowd. It was heavy partying already at 7pm.The real problem was that the pub goers had access to the hotel to use the restrooms. Drunk pub goers were pushing my young kids out of the way while we tried to navigate to our rooms. Then the fire doors, which are supposed to be only operating with key card, opened for anyone- that means any drunk from the pub can wonder up to any of the rooms. I often travel for work as a solo woman and would not feel safe in a hotel like this. The room was clean and comfortable albeit a bit warm and stuffy. There was a fan in the closet that helped some. However, we could hear/feel the base from the pub's music in our rooms until 11pm. Quiet hours at 10pm on weekdays would help as would actual working security doors. The hotel shouldn't be open to anyone who stumbles in from the bar. It's unfortunate as the rooms are set up well for families with kids but the environment was less than ideal. I wouldn't stay here again.

The room wasn't serviced during our stay. The parking is useful but double parking is allowed which could have been inconvenient though didn't cause problems for us

My parents stay 4 days in this hotel and they love their stay. They told me that the hotel was convenient, quiet and clean. They wanted to give their thanks to the personal who were really attentive and helpful with everything. Only complaint that they had was the fact that there is no lift on the property but Other than that everything was great

Stayed here in May on a Thursday night. Booked a room in the main hotel, after seeing reviews that some people ended up in a different building. There was a bit of faff about parking (not enough spaces for all the guests, so I had to be blocked in) but aside from that I thought it was a great room for a low price. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable, with modern fittings. It was quiet and had a great night's sleep! Definitely exceeded my expectations.

Property is nice, everyone is friendly, parking is not straightforward. Spaces are available but doubled up, blocking in looks problematic

Room was clean enough for the duration of out stay. We had to ask for replacement towels as we were staying for 4 days. For the duration of our stay the sheets on our bed were not changed at any point. Staff were friendly enough. Car parking was available on a first come first served basis and dependant when you parked you ran the risk of being hemmed in as parking were two to a slot front to back for up to 12 spaces. Spaces were quite tight to get into or out off. The room was ok but could have done with some upgrading - parts missing off the bathroom rail heater, mould around the shower basin and some wall paper pealing. Price was reasonable for the area.

Parking is ok, and reception make sure they have a contact numbef in csse you get blocked in.

Would have preferred to stay in main hotel only got informed on day of arrival that we were in hotel over the road

A decent hotel with a clean room and en-suite bathroom. Lots of stairs to access the quiet room on the second floor in the Carlton hotel part across the road from the Cairn hotel.

Front door to reception broken, so difficult to access. Receptionist did not give clear instructions regarding luggage and check in. Shower very dirty around door.

Wrong room size specification for superior room. Bathroom smelled all the time and made the room quite uncomfortable to stay. I'll prefer to not stay here again.

Stay here only if you’re a heavy sleeper. Found hairs on the bed when we arrived and there were constant banging doors all night

Got there and no parking was available (in fairness it does state “first come, first serve”) so drove around for 20-30 mins to try and find a parking space local to the hotel. We stayed in the block across the road to the main hotel. Stains all over the wall with damp by the windows. Dust over the furniture, well…… what’s left of it. Best part about the room was the fact the shower was lovely.

Room wasn’t amazing. Bathroom was very mouldy and some of the tiles were completely loose - I cut my toe on one when I got out of the shower! The reading lights in the room were either completely ripped out of the wall or just didn’t work. There was brown marks on one of the towels and the toilet seat wasn’t properly attached and slid around under you. Be mindful of where your room could be. I am disabled and had to make my way up 3 flights of stairs, then down some more(?) to get to our room. We were in a sister building (Carlton) where there was no staff on reception the entire time. I even rang reception at one point and there was no answer. But the gentleman in the Cairn on reception was lovely and even gave my little boy a little colouring pack which was super generous and kept my little boy occupied for a while. Deliveroo wouldnt deliver to the hotel either (just a heads up if you can’t get out like me but need essentials!)

Room was dirty had dirty pots in a drawer. Room was noisy nothing in bathroom worked properly. Had to get a cold shower. Toilet paper was 2ply rubbish. Ceiling had water stains tv remote was hidden pillows were lumpy. Had to cross road and stay in older building.

Old building with major drainage problems that resulted in a sewage smell filling the room at 4am in the morning. We had to change rooms in the middle of the night. Rooms need maintenance and updating. Fair quality hotel in a good locationfor restaurants/bars.

Great location. Hotel needs a revamp as was worn down in many places. Room wasn't very clean and the bathroom was very dirty with cobwebs and stains.

Good value for money and very handy for visiting our daughter who is studying and University. It can be very lively at night due to the number of bars near by catering for students, however it is done by 1130 and didn’t bother us even though our room happened to be on the front above the bar. The bathroom needed the silicone sealing to be redone by a professional as currently it is a terrible state. Also the cleaning in the bathroom was not up to standard.

Extremely noisy - constant loud thumping in our room from the music in the bar underneath our room - from 10.30 am until 11.15 pm. In the morning, told staff it was ridiculously loud, they agreed to turn down the bass, but it gradually went up again……

The room was lovely! Very spacious and clean. Perfect for a night away. Free parking was a bonus

Our room was on the top floor and due to the hot weather the heat from the building was trapped on the top floor and it was unbearably hot in the room.

The room was very small and not how the pictures portrayed. The walls were paper thin and the first night we barely slept a wink due to the person next door having the tv on all night, coughing and being sick. The next night wasn’t much better. The room had a broken bedside light. The bathroom is also very small. Everything was reported after the first night to the receptionist and nothing was done. Won’t be staying here again.

Our room was tiny with not enough place to move around. There is a TV at the foot of the bed with a table behind it. Very crowded.

Room was clean and a really good size. Perfect for what we needed as a base for the evening. Staff were very welcoming and friendly whenever we spoke to them

Extremely poor visit. This hotel feels incomplete. Staff are rude and refuse to help. I booked 2 rooms for my family. The first room stunk of weed and the radiators did not work, leaving the room freezing. The doors to the second room don’t lock and there is mould in lots of areas of the room. Other guests are extremely loud with no response from staff. Do not stay here. Don’t waste your time!

The check-in chap was super helpful. The room was modern, clean and well designed. Everything was 100% great. The only slight negative that the parking was limited. The chap on reception was super helpful and sorted me out and all was great. I would 100% stay there again. The parking issue was a tiny blip on what was otherwise a great stay in a super hotel.

Staff were friendly and ensured our stay was comfortable. Dealt with an issue in the room quickly and efficiently.

Great value, comfy bed, good shower. The only glitch was one of the two rooms we booked was in the carlton across the road. This was fine, a few min walk but their reception wasn’t manned. There was a phone to call the other reception but no-one answered. So we still had to go check in and then my elderly mother’s key failed and she was locked out - this issue is known to the hotel but no warning for customers or accessible support. The room in the Carlton was also not well lit and had no aircon but the room in the cairn (the hotel we booked) was great

Staff very friendly and helpful. When you first arrive you think it will be noisy, due to bars but by midnight it’s very quiet. Location very good.

Good location. Nice breakfast. Free parking was full the first night. Convenient for West Jesmond Metro station. Some lovely local restaurants. Only downside for some is rooms are above a bar so you can hear music, however it stops promptly at 11pm. Over

This hotel was perfect for our recent trip to Newcastle. The receptionist was very helpful and very welcoming a credit to the hotel - the hotel is part of a very nice pub and restaurant - this is a positive for us - a one mile walk into the city centre which felt very safe even walking back after midnight - you could allways call an uber/taxi. Jesmond feels like a very safe safe and upmarket part of Newcastle - We will be visiting this are and hotel again

A good hotel in the centre of Jesmond with everything nearby what you need and great links into the city with the metro.

Good for an overnight stay - no chef to cook breakfast so gave a refund and we went to the cafe around the corner

Really enjoyed the stay and would recommend to others. Only downside was the noise on a night from outside revellers ( only jealous! ) . Bit noisy on the corridor outside my room but momentary. Breakfast was lovely - good value for money. Really comfortable shower was fantastic.

The room that I staying in was superior double which was nice but nothing special. There was a range of pillows which is always good. There are two restaurants that you can go to that at either side of the hotel but these must be booked. Japan Asian restaurant was delicious

Perfect easy place to stay in Jesmond. Thai restaurant downstairs serves delicious food. Great breakfast. Great service. Choose Superior room Cairn side. Worth the few £ extra.

From arrival to departure a truly professional stay. Friendly staff in a relaxing atmosphere with food worth the visit on its own.

This is an honest opinion of my stay. Cairn Hotel in a very vibrant leafy suburb of Newcastle. Lots of bars, restaurants, cafes and independent shops in the area. Checking in was fine and a friendly welcome from reception. Hotel is spread across both sides of the road, I, unfortunately was in the other one, CARLTON hotel. So as I had luggage I had to move my car from one carpark to another. No problem, there was space in very small carpark in scruffy back lane behind hotel. I was on 3rd floor, NO Lift! My bag was heavy! Had to make 3trips up and down. My room was right at the end of 3rd floor. Very small double, would really have been a struggle for 2 guests.Not alot of hanging space! It was hot and only 1 small window. Luckily a fan is provided, there's also a small fridge in room which was good. One sidelight totally broken. Bathroom was good with shower over bath, but I couldn't use bath as plug didn't work. Bed very comfortable but walls very thin, could hear next door It was very noisy. Fire doors slamming and noise from street. Breakfast was across at Cairn(glad it wasn't raining!) Very enjoyable and tasty buffet style. And cafetiere of coffee which was very nice,not from a machine! Friendly staff. All in all a good hotel apart from all the stairs and having to cross the road. A bar and restaurant, plenty to do in area. Shops nearby. Rooms could do with an update but it served my purpose of visiting for a family wedding.
