Fantastic old hotel with extremely clean, well-appointed room. There's a reason they call it "Edinburgh Castle Apartments and Suites". Nothing like stepping out of the cab and being overwhelmed by a view of the castle! It's on a street with lots of character but no crowds. Try the deli at the corner of the street for breakfast or lunch, or the chocolate drink shop anytime, or the Wind-in-the-Willows-themed restaurant next door, or the handmade items shop across the street. But pack lightly - we lugged our luggage up the winding staircase to the third floor.

Location of the apartments couldn’t have been better, just off princes street 15 minute walk from Waverley. Arrived at 3 as that’s when check in opened. The room wasn’t ready and were told 5 minutes. We gave it 15 with there being a couple shops outside the front. Came back and were told it’s ready. 4 flights of stairs later and the cleaning lady was still cleaning the room. So we waiting another 15 minutes before eventually getting in the room. Room was spot on for what was advertised. Pick of the draw for views. Weren’t the best out the window however very quiet given its city centre. Charging the phone at both sides of the bed isn’t available due to lack of sockets. In the bathroom the downlights didn’t have the covers on them so the bulbs were just hanging out. I was going to mention this in the morning when checking out but the reception staff weren’t there and the cleaners told us they weren’t here and just to go it will be fine. Simple touch ups in decorating wouldn’t go a miss and leveling up sockets on display will make it more aesthetically pleasing. Cost of the apartment I feel was on the high side but depends put the prices up. If I was paying this much all year round I would be extremely disappointed. Please sort out the down lights in the bathroom as a matter of urgency. As an electrician I can tell you now the room wouldn’t pass an EICR if or when it gets its regular inspection.

In a word: minimal on-site staff. We arrived in Edinburgh early in the morning and were hoping to drop our bags off and then do a little exploring. As there was no on-site staff that morning (28 July 2026), this was not possible. So we just hung out at the coffee shop across the street babysitting our bags. The check in time was indicated as 3:00pm. So at 3 I headed over, and sure enough the front door was open. But after calling out, there was no "receptionist". After searching around, I found a housecleaner (who did not speak much english) and asked about getting into our room. She called someone (the manager ?) who provided the room number and the key codes to enter our room (as well as the outer door). So we were able to finally get into our room. But had I not thought to bother this housecleaner, I don't know how much longer we would have had to wait. This seemed to be the absolute "minimal" in having on-site staff. And it was not made clear that checking in would require such legwork.

It was a very clean and comfortable accommodation. It was pricier than most places I would stay but the two bedroom unit and location made the price more tolerable.

Great location and staff was very friendly. My room was ready 2 hrs early which was great after an overseas flight. I was even able to wash and dry some clothes with the in-house machines before the next leg of my trip.
