This is a wonderful property with only 5 units and an open-air restaurant/courtyard. The hosts are friendly and helpful and free wine anytime is a bonus! Full breakfast included as well!! Location is perfect for accessing the Green Market, the waterfront and shops and restaurants too. The unit was clean, with comfy bed and pillows which is critical to any stay! Bathroom is well stocked with toiletries too.

Localização excelente, ao lado do Palácio de Diocleciano. Atendimento muito atencioso de Luka e Marco. Café da manhã delicioso com vários itens feito no local. Deveriam ter uma sinalização de onde fica o hotel. No meu caso não houve problema porque Luka foi nos esperar no estacionamento. Se tentasse ir sozinha, provavelmente teria muita dificuldade de encontrar o hotel. Informação que o aquecedor do chuveiro liga em uma tecla de luz ao lado do interruptor do banheiro. Foi desligado inadvertidamente e ficamos sem água quente por um período. Foi resolvido após a explicação de Luka.

We had a lovely room, the hosts were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They helped us with parking and the concierge met us to help with our luggage as the hotel is in a pedestrianized zone. The hotel is right in the middle of old ten Split which is lovely.

A perfect place to stay in the Old City of Split. Mario and Luka take great care to ensure their guests at Hotel Makarun feel welcome and comfortable. My flight was delayed for hours, but their taxi driver was waiting for me at nearly midnight, and Luka met us to escort me to the hotel and ensure my WiFi was connected. The hotel includes a delicious 3-course breakfast, with some unique special treats and even poached eggs on toast that were absolutely perfect! If I could, I would give the Makarun 10 stars!

We had the most amazing time staying at the Makarun. The hotel was a beautifully restored old house in a private setting. All new bathroom, spacious and with a gorgeous shower. The two hosts Luka and Mario went above and beyond to make our stay great! They gave us recommendations for restaurants, bars, activities and were available at all hours by whatsapp to answer questions and help with bookings and so on. Luka coordinated with us before arriving, picked us up from the airport shuttle and helped with the luggage, checked us ind and helped us arrange the first day. Mario served the most amazing 3-course breakfast and did a great historical tour of the city. Both were so kind and engaged in making our stay a 10/10! Thank you!

Although we are seasoned travelers,this was our first time in a small B&B style establishment & we were most pleasantly impressed.It’s a small hotel, yet the rooms are designed to create a feeling of space, with a modern decor. The location was perfect, right in the old town, a minute’s walk to the main promenade of Split Old Town. Service was exceptional on a personal level, with Luka giving us a 15 minute overview of Split upon check in. Breakfast was served in 3 courses with a minimal selection, however it was prepared with fresh organic ingredients.Freshly baked croissants and bread,Homemade jam,freshly squeezed juice,deliciously prepared eggs and dessert as well.Even the coffee was exceptional, prepared by a highly skilled barista. The only negative aspect is that the water heating system in the shower doesn’t have a large capacity so one has to take a quick shower. However, this will not prevent me from staying there again. Thank you to Mario and Luka for making our stay in Split so amazing.

This is not a "hotel" with a lobby etc. it is a series of guest rooms which is attached to a restaurant. This is not an issue but if you want a true hotel you might be disappointed. However, in all my travels I have NEVER experienced this level of service. It was outstanding!! From being met at the boat and escorted to the property, to having a detailed review over drinks (on the house) of local attractions, having our laundry done for free, getting a breakfast to go on a day we had early plans and an overall level of attentiveness I have not experienced before. Ivan was particularly wonderful but the whole staff seemed genuinely dedicated to giving us a great experience. The room was also lovely and well appointed. The hot water, they warned, does run out rather fast due to the age of the facilities. That was the only reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board. Should I ever go back to Split I will stay here. In fact I would adjust my plans if need be to ensure I could stay here again. Really great experience!!! Thank you!!

Excellent location within old town Split. Rooms are modern and clean. Hosts are not located on site but bring a far greater hospitality experience than any front-desk attendant ever would. Mario reached out to us prior to arrival and arranged airport transfer along side host Luka meeting us at our dropoff point to old town. Luka escorted us to our room giving us an old town split introduction that would exceed any tour guide. This started off our vacation in the perfect way and continued throughout our stay. Highly recommend this location to anyone.

I cannot say enough good things about our stay in June 2025. There was excellent communication before our arrival and they met us at the taxi drop-off site to navigate the pedestrian-only area with our luggage. The breakfast was a 3-course meal! And the service was always with a smile! We did not eat dinner at their restaurant but it looked lovely too. The hotel has a great location inside the old city walls but was quiet and off the main square. I would definitely recommend it for a visit to Split.

Vår vistelse på Makarun Heritage Rooms i Split var verkligen en upplevelse utöver det vanliga. Från det ögonblick vi steg av båten och möttes av Ivan, som vänligt och hjälpsamt kom för att ta emot oss, visste vi att detta skulle bli en fantastisk vistelse. Ivan var otroligt hjälpsam och såg till att vi kände oss välkomna från första stund. Rummet var både charmigt och stiligt inrett, med en modern och bekväm design. Det var extremt rent och väl underhållet, vilket verkligen gjorde att vi kände oss som hemma. Läget var också helt perfekt – mitt i hjärtat av Split, vilket gjorde det enkelt att utforska staden till fots. Frukosten var utmärkt! Ett utbud av både lokala och internationella delikatesser, allt fräscht och tillagat med omsorg. Det som verkligen satte Makarun Heritage Rooms i en klass för sig var den exceptionella servicen. De säkerställde att vi alltid trivdes och inte saknade något under hela vår vistelse. Overall stay was just amazing, location one of the best in Split. Best was the service from Makarun team especially from Luka and Mario, they were just more than amazing hosts. Breakfast was great with everyday. Room was super clean and we felt like fully attended all the time!

Absolutely amazing stay! We unfortunately only had one night here but wish we had more. The whole staff was amazing, they helped us get from the ferry to the hotel and on the way gave us info about the city. Rooms were immaculate and the food was amazing. Can’t say enough good things about this place! James and Marcia

Everything exceed expectations! Just a few meters away from the palace. The bed is super comfy, spacious bathroom (powerful shower and nice olive oil toiletries), working air-con, lovely terrace with view of Split bell tower, sound proof windows (don’t feel noisy at all), exceptional good hosts (please do join the history walking tour with Mario, it is highlight of our stay at Makarun). Regarding food, i think it is probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had when staying at a B&B in Europe. On the first night we arrived, Luka said if you want something really good, then dine at Makarun restaurant. He is not lying! We had dinner there on the 2nd day (very popular, make sure you pre-book). Absolutely amazing food and service. Feel like having Michelin star meal at someone’s home! Not to forget, I also received 7-8 restaurants recommendation to suit all occasions as well as suggestions of beach where the local goes :-) Overall, I’d like to give Makarun 12/10 if I can.

Even before arriving and after leaving, both Mario and Luka went above and beyond to make our stay/travel comfortable and enjoyable. The location is perfect, the room is clean, the amenities are nice, and the breakfast was great. We also had our dinner at Makarun restaurant (located at the same property) which was just wonderful. Thank you, Mario and Luka, for all your kindness and help while we were there.

This is not a "hotel" with a lobby etc. it is a series of guest rooms which is attached to a restaurant. This is not an issue but if you want a true hotel you might be disappointed. However, in all my travels I have NEVER experienced this level of service. It was outstanding!! From being met at the boat and escorted to the property, to having a detailed review over drinks (on the house) of local attractions, having our laundry done for free, getting a breakfast to go on a day we had early plans and an overall level of attentiveness I have not experienced before. Ivan was particularly wonderful but the whole staff seemed genuinely dedicated to giving us a great experience. The room was also lovely and well appointed. The hot water, they warned, does run out rather fast due to the age of the facilities. That was the only reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board. Should I ever go back to Split I will stay here. In fact I would adjust my plans if need be to ensure I could stay here again. Really great experience!!! Thank you!!

Located in the old town with many restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Comfortable and modern rooms, with good AC. Mario and Luka are wonderful hosts and super welcoming. The 3 course breakfast was a nice bonus.

Absolutely amazing stay! We unfortunately only had one night here but wish we had more. The whole staff was amazing, they helped us get from the ferry to the hotel and on the way gave us info about the city. Rooms were immaculate and the food was amazing. This place was really outstanding. The two host, Mario and Luca were really excellent from the moment you arrive to escorting you to your destination for your transportation home. The facilities were really outstanding, the room size was big, the amenities really nice from the coffee making to the English language free Netflix TV. The three course breakfast was exceptional. I highly recommend this place located in the heart of the old town (The Palace). P.S. Our host Mario gives an excellent free personal guided tour of the Palace. Don’t miss it.

We had a fantastic stay, everything is prepared with a lot of attention to detail. The location is absolutely the best and the room design is very modern and well maintained. But what really makes the difference is Luka and Mario who were always looking after us, great communication and the best hospitality. We also loved the breakfast, fantastic food and ambiance. We would definitely stay here again.

Everything exceed expectations! Just a few meters away from the palace. The bed is super comfy, spacious bathroom (powerful shower and nice olive oil toiletries), working air-con, lovely terrace with view of Split bell tower, sound proof windows (don’t feel noisy at all), exceptional good hosts (please do join the history walking tour with Mario, it is highlight of our stay at Makarun). Regarding food, i think it is probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had when staying at a B&B in Europe. On the first night we arrived, Luka said if you want something really good, then dine at Makarun restaurant. He is not lying! We had dinner there on the 2nd day (very popular, make sure you pre-book). Absolutely amazing food and service. Feel like having Michelin star meal at someone’s home! Not to forget, I also received 7-8 restaurants recommendation to suit all occasions as well as suggestions of beach where the local goes :-) Overall, I’d like to give Makarun 12/10 if I can.

We had the most amazing time staying at the Makarun. The hotel was a beautifully restored old house in a private setting. All new bathroom, spacious and with a gorgeous shower. The two hosts Luka and Mario went above and beyond to make our stay great! Although we are seasoned travelers,this was our first time in a small B&B style establishment & we were most pleasantly impressed.It’s a small hotel, yet the rooms are designed to create a feeling of space, with a modern decor. The location was perfect, right in the old town, a minute’s walk to the main promenade of Split Old Town. Service was exceptional on a personal level, with Luka giving us a 15 minute overview of Split upon check in. Breakfast was served in 3 courses with a minimal selection, however it was prepared with fresh organic ingredients.Freshly baked croissants and bread,Homemade jam,freshly squeezed juice,deliciously prepared eggs and dessert as well.Even the coffee was exceptional, prepared by a highly skilled barista. The only negative aspect is that the water heating system in the shower doesn’t have a large capacity so one has to take a quick shower. However, this will not prevent me from staying there again. Thank you to Mario and Luka for making our stay in Split so amazing.

I cannot say enough good things about our stay in June 2025. There was excellent communication before our arrival and they met us at the taxi drop-off site to navigate the pedestrian-only area with our luggage. The breakfast was a 3-course meal! And the service was always with a smile! We did not eat dinner at their restaurant but it looked lovely too. The hotel has a great location inside the old city walls but was quiet and off the main square. I would definitely recommend it for a visit to Split.

If there is a rating more than 5 star, we will give it for sure..we’ve been everywhere but didnt care to leave a review until now. Location was great, but same as the other places. But the service, just wow! We almost want to stay longer in Split because of the service. And we definitely wanted to come back because of them. I hesitated to book because of the lower number of review, but dont hesitate please..they treat you like your really special..please dont hesitate..BOOK IT NOW!

Luca was the most outstanding host I have ever had at property. He greeted us with an outline of all the Split highlights and provided us a perfect itinerary for a great day. He worked closely with us to get our car parked as you are not able to drive into the city center where the hotel is located (super convenient). He also was super helpful getting us an urgent doctor appointment when my son got sick. The breakfast at the hotel was absolutely delicious and we also had the best dinner of our trip at the restaurant. We felt taken care of and at home which is a luxury while on vacation in a new country.

Luca was the most outstanding host I have ever had at property. He greeted us with an outline of all the Split highlights and provided us a perfect itinerary for a great day. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay in Split. Mario and Luka went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Luka met us at our boat and escorted us to the hotel. They served us an amazing three-course breakfast, and then Mario took us on a walking tour of the palace and Old Town Split. When they learned we had a very early check-out time because of our morning flight home, they even brought us breakfast the night before! The room itself was perfect and had more than enough space for my husband, myself and our two teens. The location is central to everything and easy to access. I've already recommended Makarun Heritage Rooms to other friends of ours who are visiting Split later this fall. When we visit Split again, we will definitely be staying here!

From the moment we made our reservation, the service was top notch! We were informed that someone would meet us and transport our luggage to the hotel and this happened seamlessly. We were greeted with fresh croissants and cappuccino and Luca sat with us for at least a half an hour recommending sites to see, restaurants, places to shop, etc. The rooms were extremely comfortable and every amenity imaginable was provided. The breakfast the next morning came in three courses and was delicious with all fresh ingredients-truly a treat!! This little hotel is a gem hidden in the middle of Diocletian's Palace and I look forward to going back. I did not dine here for dinner but the menu looks incredible! Best service at a hotel ever!

The manager Mario was fantastic. He spent the time to tell us about the hotel, nearby restaurants, must see locations and gave us a free two hour tour of the old city. Breakfast was amazing. Great location. Can’t say enough about our experience there.

Excellent location within old town Split. Rooms are modern and clean. Hosts are not located on site but bring a far greater hospitality experience than any front-desk attendant ever would. Mario reached out to us prior to arrival and arranged airport transfer along side host Luka meeting us at our dropoff point to old town. Luka escorted us to our room giving us an old town split introduction that would exceed any tour guide. This started off our vacation in the perfect way and continued throughout our stay. Highly recommend this location to anyone.

Perfect location and fantastic customer service. Mario and Luka really go above and beyond. The breakfast was multiple courses, and had even included craft espresso drinks and mimosas on the house. Also, I recommend downloading WhatsApp because they’ll send you recommendations through the app. They even met us down at the Riva to walk us to the hotel.

We had a lovely room, the hosts were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They helped us with parking and the concierge met us to help with our luggage as the hotel is in a pedestrianized zone. The hotel is right in the middle of old ten Split which is lovely.

My wife and I truly enjoyed staying at the Makarun. If you want to stay in Old Town Split, It is in an ideal location just steps away from all the sites within the palace walls. It has a well concealed, beautiful courtyard that provides a quiet escape from the visiting tourists. The staff is outgoing and friendly , and extends themselves to your every need. If you like small boutique hotels, with highly personalized attention, the Makarun would be a fantastic choice for your visit to Split. Thank you Mario and staff!

Le personnel est au petit soin, en particulier Ivan qui a pris contact avant mon arrivée, m’a fourni de nombreuses infos sur la ville, que visiter à Split et dans les îles, des tips pour les restaurants, pour boire un verre, sur les meilleures plages. Bref, n’hésitez pas si par chance une chambre est dispo !

This was the most amazing hotel location for a stay in Split. You walk out your door and you’re in the Plaza. I have to say Luca and Mario went above and beyond making our trip extra special from a historical tour, to an amazing freshly made breakfast every morning and helping navigate all our adventures. I can’t wait to recommend this place to all my friends and family.

Small hotel, excellent location very comfortable. Especially attentive and knowledgeable hosts. Wonderful breakfast. Loved dinner at their 5 star restaurant in charming patio.

I travel a lot and I think this is the best hotel experience I've ever had!! Ivan was absolutely the best! From communicating with us to setting up a transfer from the airport! Explaing in detail the hotel, the room and welocome drink! Property is immaculate and staff welcoming. Mario brought our luggage in and out and let's not forget the amazing, 4 course breakfast made with local fresh ingredients and definitely love!! 100% recommend to all!

We arrived with 2 other couples what a little gem of a place. Mario organised a staff member to meet us at the port and take us and our luggage to the rooms. We were greeted with coffees and the families own brandy( very good). Our rooms were ready by 10am, during that time we were given a talk on where to go and what to see, recommendations for places to eat. The whole place is modern with all the traditional atmosphere. Our rooms were beautiful with all the finishing touches of a 5* hotel.. nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff who made you feel very special,the food was equally 5*. Everywhere was within a few minutes walking distance. The 5 course breakfast was delicious using all locally sourced ingredients, the dirty eggs were cooked to perfection and delicious. ( never had them before) The evening atmosphere was something else in this quaint courtyard. We came back from an evening out and the restaurant was busy with locals eating and Mario insisted we all had cheese, ham , coffees and local liqueurs before bed, how special was that!! Even our airport transport was organised like clockwork and the driver gave us a history lesson on route. We cannot recommend the beautiful place enough and will be recommending it to our family and friends

Everything exceed expectations! Just a few meters away from the palace. The bed is super comfy, spacious bathroom (powerful shower and nice olive oil toiletries), working air-con, lovely terrace with view of Split bell tower, sound proof windows (don’t feel noisy at all), exceptional good hosts (please do join the history walking tour with Mario, it is highlight of our stay at Makarun). Regarding food, i think it is probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had when staying at a B&B in Europe. On the first night we arrived, Luka said if you want something really good, then dine at Makarun restaurant. He is not lying! We had dinner there on the 2nd day (very popular, make sure you pre-book). Absolutely amazing food and service. Feel like having Michelin star meal at someone’s home! Not to forget, I also received 7-8 restaurants recommendation to suit all occasions as well as suggestions of beach where the local goes :-) Overall, I’d like to give Makarun 12/10 if I can.

The staff was amazingly kind and the breakfast was the best we have had in our 2 weeks in Croatia. The location is fantastic and I would highly recommend the restaurant as well.

The manager Mario was fantastic. He spent the time to tell us about the hotel, nearby restaurants, must see locations and gave us a free two hour tour of the old city. Breakfast was amazing. Great location. Can’t say enough about our experience there.

Perfect location and fantastic customer service. Mario and Luka really go above and beyond. The breakfast was multiple courses, and had even included craft espresso drinks and mimosas on the house. Also, I recommend downloading WhatsApp because they’ll send you recommendations through the app. They even met us down at the Riva to walk us to the hotel.

I cannot say enough good things about our stay in June 2025. There was excellent communication before our arrival and they met us at the taxi drop-off site to navigate the pedestrian-only area with our luggage. The breakfast was a 3-course meal! And the service was always with a smile! We did not eat dinner at their restaurant but it looked lovely too. The hotel has a great location inside the old city walls but was quiet and off the main square. I would definitely recommend it for a visit to Split.

Fantastic location right in the heart of old town. The staff were super helpful and we enjoyed dinner at the Makarun restaurant that evening. For the price I don’t think you can do better.

Are you travelling with children and want to experience Split? Makarun has top tier customer service, and this is coming from a regular business traveller of five star hotels around the globe. This is definitely a premium customer experience, where the staff and management go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and have a great experience visiting Split. We had the junior suite, perfect for a family with children with ample space. The staff also made sure to meet us and walk us to the hotel, provided us with complimentary (!) local specialities and drinks upon arrival and showed us all the great sights. The staff at breakfast was also extremely attentive, making sure that the kids got food that they liked. This was the same on their dinner serving, which is not always guaranteed at an establishment that offers a fine dining experience. In summary, if you want a premium experience in Split I cannot think of a better place to stay, surpassing what you expect from a five star resort.
