While overall convenient for an overnight option, not having an elevator really hindered our stay. Not sure if it was mentioned on the listing but it wasnt something we knew coming in. We ended up just taking our carry on luggage with us and leaving the suitcases in our rental car and packing for our journey back in the car. It got a bit noisy from streets below but it didnt impact our stay, just something else to be aware of.

Location VG. Comfortortable room. Staff great. 3 floors and narrow staircases. No elevator so not easily accessible for folks with mobility issues or anyone carrying big suitcases. Meals available. Coded doors into the hotel so security excellent. We parked on the street for free after 6 pm until 8 am.

Our room was on the top floor and the staff helped us with our cases. Thank you! It was a great price and location. Close to restaurants. We were able to park on the street in front of the hotel so that was great. Just have to be careful to pay again at 8am.

Location of this property is a big advantage. I didn't mind lack of parking. The place is very noisy not from outside or street, but from restaurant business downstairs. Very noisy on weekends even until 1 AM.

Rooms were clean. Nice staff. Location is central, walkable area to any old town spots, restaurants and pubs. Hotel is old and needs renovation. Restaurant on site brings some smell and noise to rooms on first and second floor.

Parking garage across the street so need to factor into the cost. Nice atmosphere in a very old building and our room was lovely. Very convenient to downtown and walkable, tho some hills (like anywhere in St. John’s) and on major route to get out of town to see surrounding area. Lots of fairly steep stairs to access rooms so beware!

Excellent location, although drivers should note that the indoor parking across the street will cost $17 a day or more. Truly excellent housekeeping! Comfortable bed, good shower although water will take a couple of minutes' running to heat up. Room was initially quite cold, but the Honeywell switch warmed it up nicely. Be aware if stairs are an issue, it wasn't a problem for me. Mere steps from the Duke of Duckworth pub, possibly the best fish & chips in Canada! Also close to The Ship pub. Good accommodations for the price, I could stay here again in future.

The boutique like hotel is situated in an old building and reminded me of a small European hotel, although the room was more spacious than a European hotel. It does not have A/C but has a window installed fan. Wi-Fi was fast. Hotel entry used a keypad system so we never saw a clerk, just the cleaning people. Loved it!

We are a very low maintenance couple when it comes to travel, and while the location of this hotel is SO convenient, it was definitely not worth the money. The walls are paper thin. We were awoken to a someone screaming followed by vomiting violently in the room next to us at 3am. I understand this is not the hotel’s fault- just something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper. The room itself had a very musty smell and the sheets/comforter and pillow cases themselves smelled like body odor. We also found hairs in our sheets. The toilet constantly tried to refill throughout the night. Overall just a noisy, smelly, unpleasant experience I rarely write negative reviews but this room, while cheap and found in a gorgeous older building in the prime location , was definitely not worth what we paid. We will not be returning.

First off it was a shared bathroom.. no fridge in the room, the ceiling had water damage! The place had a very disgusting smell! And the blinds were yellow and full of mold…..

Incredibly comfortable, spacious, and clean with all the amenities you need. The property is a charming old building and very conveniently located to restaurants and pubs; easy walk to the waterfront and The Rooms museum. The king size bed was so comfortable I ended up sleeping most of the first day because I didn’t want to leave it. The staff was wonderful. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Overall a quaint stay, and the room and lobby areas were decently clean. However, it did get a little hot in the room sometimes because there was no AC. The mini fridge had leftover beer bottles probably left by the previous guest, and there was no water provided for me. I found a small cockroach in the bathroom but was able to deal with it without much fuss. What I disliked the most was the hotel’s refusal to store my bags for a bit after check-out (a common courtesy that is maintained at most places) so I could explore the city one last time before my flight.

The room was reasonably clean but the carpet hall inside the door was disgusting/filthy. No instructions on use of window air conditioning and dials were impossible to read. No hint on what stations were available and TV was marginal. Bed was adequate. An old building that reeks of it’s age and needed updating.

Beautiful and comfortable modern space and you cannot get any better in terms of location within St. John's. The noise of partiers on the street can get a bit loud at night so bring ear plugs if that is a concern for you.

Cheaper option to stay in downtown St. John’s. Very old building, very small rooms but overall was taken care of and clean. Very close to restaurants and nightlife. Window shaker AC worked well.

Hi we are not pleased the TV did not work the first staff member tried to fix it, it came on then stopped then another member tried and could not get it going so no Tv . My wife could not use he lap top in the room, a staff member tried to help he took it out side the room and got it working but back in the room it did not work. They told us parking was free but when I went to get my car at 0500 this morning I had to pay. The staff where very nice. We will never us this hotel again.

Unique old building in walking distance to downtown and George St. As noted on their website, you can hear street noise from the rooms. The room was comfortable, the only issue we encountered was we were unable to connect with their Wi-Fi despite asking for assistance.

The location is great but the room we had was right outside the Duke of Duckworth which was super loud overnight. Other rooms had better views and reduced noise as they weren’t at the entrance of the bar next door.

The bed was very comfortable. The air condition was a welcome treat. The bar of soap on the bathtub ledge left by the previous guest makes me question how well the shower was cleaned. Power sources were well hidden, maybe a power bar would be a good addition. Very tiny television screen. One broken chair.

Disappointing Experience - Inflexible Cancellation Policy I\'m extremely disappointed with the hotel\'s refusal to provide a refund or accommodate changes to my booking due to unforeseen circumstances. With the ferry cancellation caused by a hurricane, my trip was canceled just 2 days before arrival. Despite my efforts to request a partial refund or transfer my dates, the hotel rigidly adhered to their policy, leaving me with a $300 loss. Unfortunately, I can\'t comment on the hotel\'s quality since I never got to check in. However, I wish they would consider exceptions for extreme weather conditions or transportation cancellations. A more flexible approach would have made a significant difference in this situation. As it stands, I\'m left feeling frustrated and unreimbursed."

I've stayed here many times and love it. You couldn't be in a better location, easy walking distance to the major hotels and the George Street night life. While there is no front desk, the keypad system on the front door and room assignment on an interior door works just fine. The staff are friendly and helpful. On this particular visit, Mark and Josephine could not have been better. Kudos. I recommend this place highly.

Very nice room, well maintained and comfortable, with lots of character. Very convenient for restaurants and bars, but not noisy. There were some missing amenities at first, but staff were very helpful. Also, we forgot some clothes when we checked out and they were quite good about helping us get it back.

There were some missing amenities at first, but staff were very helpful. Also, we forgot some clothes when we checked out and they were quite good about helping us get it back.

The Duckworth is an excellent place to stay to do things in downtown St John's. We walked to everything we wanted to do except Quidi Vidi and we rode the bus for that.

Rooms were clean. Nice staff. Location is central, walkable area to any old town spots, restaurants and pubs. Hotel is old and needs renovation. Restaurant on site brings some smell and noise to rooms on first and second floor.

The location is great but the room we had was right outside the Duke of Duckworth which was super loud overnight. Other rooms had better views and reduced noise as they weren’t at the entrance of the bar next door.

Would highly recommend….I was travelling alone. …. Yet felt safe, easy parking and food was delicious at the restaurant. Seem like I had to wait awhile for my food ….. but staff very friendly.

Fun place to stay. Would recommend hotel finish with drywall repairs in rooms. Shower in one of our rooms was too small! Excellent food in restaurant and bar. Very nice staff.

The building is 100 years old so it shows character. The room was clean and the restaurant/bar was great. Would definitely recommend and will stay here again.

Check in was not typical but it worked very well. The large tiled shower was awesome. The bedding was very comfortable. The lights over the sink didn’t work. A second bedside lamp would be helpful for couples. The entry door was very squeaky and hard to close. I left very early each day any knew I was probably waking other guests. Nice bar and restaurant on the first floor and downstairs. There’s a really fun bar next door.

It’s kind of a blend between a hotel, a B&B, and…not sure what. Awesome location, and the restaurant and bar deserve six stars at least. But some rooms share bathrooms, and our room (which didn’t) felt partially completed. If you’re prepared for that, it’s awesome. We stay there again, just for the food and bar!!

Great location. Walking distance to all sites downtown. The ceiling had water stains that should be looked at. No tissues in room. It was quiet and for location we would stay again Word of caution. Unfortunately three vehicles including ours had windows smashed at parkcade across street.

Really quaint and very well located place . Easy to access and check in even if there is no lobby . Stayed one night and enjoyed downtown and all the walks around town Will come back There is noise in the streets specially during events so if you’re a light sleeper and really need to sleep I don’t suggest . But they do advise before you book
