The Red Lion

The room was clean but rather tired in decor. The staff were pleasant & efficient. Parking was free & was easily accessible. Although the breakfast menu was extensive, there was no marmalade available on the Saturday morning when we asked for it, and the sourdough toast was so hard it was impossible to bite into it! There were no cereals on offer. The cooked dishes on offer were numerous and when we ordered some on the Sunday morning (on soft muffins rather than soughdough toast), they were beautifully presented and delicious). We were V surprised to find that the cups in our room were SO small - not large enough for tea (probably only an espresso coffee) and they were not changed for clean ones for the 2nd morning! BAD POINT! We thought the dining room/bar area had been pleasantly decorated - it was cosy & appealing. It would have been preferable if we had been asked how we would have liked the duck breast to be cooked. My partner found that his was over-done. No extra fresh veg was offered. Only various potato dishes as extra sides.

Typical country pub, great room. Great sunday roast and also a superb breakfast with good service. Parking local to pub. Good facilities and WIFI available, TV on aerial, so not great, but not a problem with other media available.

Friendly staff, very comfortable accommodation and a fabulous breakfast.
