Hörgsland Cottages

Really lovely stay at Horgsland Cottages. Incredible location and very easy to find. Place was very cosy. In the top room, we weren't able to adjust the heating and so it was abit too hot for us at night, but the other rooms had indiviual temperature dials. Nice convenience store in reception where you could buy coffee for the machine, drinks and snacks.

The Horgsland cottages were a great option for our family of 5. It provided a convenient and affordable basecamp for our adventures exploring the southern section of Vatnajokull National Park. We stayed in cabin 7 which was very clean and comfortable. The cabin interior was in good condition and exceeded expectations, especially after reading other reviews. The pictures very accurately reflected the cabin we stayed in. Lots of windows so it felt bright and open, yet the blackout shades worked very well at night. The kitchen had all the basics which allowed us to cook breakfast and prepare lunches to take with us each day. Wifi worked great for entertainment on personal devices at night. Only 1 channel on the TV and no streaming services available. Communication was great. I had a few last minute questions prior to arriving and Igor responded very quickly. Check-in was super quick. Plenty of parking. It was very quiet. The only negative feedback I have was that the hot tubs were not operational and didn't look like they had been for a while. They were not listed in the amenities but were in many pictures. I'd suggest adding a note to the property description calling this out. If you are looking for luxury, don't stay here. This is for people who are comfortable with no frills accommodations. Overall we were extremely happy with the cabin and would stay here again.

Nice, quiet place right off the ring road. Beautiful landscape. We were bummed to find the two hot tubs on the property completely empty. Bathroom/shower ok. Shower water did not get very warm. Still would stay here again/recommend it to friends.

Great location for Gullfoss and Geyser. Easy parking. Good restaurant.

Insgesamt war die Hütte in Ordnung. An sich war es auch sauber. Nur die Dusche ist renovierungsbedürftig, wenigstens ein neuer Duschvorhang müsste sein, der hat sichtlich genug mitgemacht. Es war unten auch leider etwas frisch. Auch dass die Klimaanlage nonstop lief und nicht bedienbar war, war nicht optimal. Außerdem war das Geländer bei der Terrasse kaputt oder nie richtig befestigt worden. Außerdem gab es KEINEN Whirlpool bzw. war dieser nicht nutzbar, so wie im Inserat angegeben.

Discovered as we travelled that Iceland isn’t really renowned for accommodation. This was a one night pit stop on the usual round the island driving trip. Plus points Easy to find and get to. Check in is not where it’s shown on the email and the cabin was small and claustrophobic in the bedrooms. As others have said, plenty of posted warnings of additional charges if you fail to wash up dishes etc and the hot tubs at the front both out of use and look like they’ve been that way for a very long time. Ok for a night but expensive like the rest of the country

Parking is close and convenient to the cabin, and cabin itself is very cute and had everything we needed. Very homey and cozy vibes for me and my friends.

Check in staff was rather rude. Cabin had a very bad smell but aired out quickly. Once aired out it was a very nice cabin! Breakfast staff was AWESOME! No signs for the reception building...its to the far LEFT when you check in.

Beware menacing sheep at night! Four times a sheep was banging into the door trying to get in at night. Sheep at windows making noise. Beds not comfortable. TINY shower. Hot-not able to properly regulate temperature. However, it was clean, fit a family of 6 and had a cook top.

The cottage had mold in the shower, the doors, the window seals. Horrible smell in the cottage. No sheets on the top bunks, dingy beds. No hot tub, no restaurant. I took photos of everything. The owners are ignoring me, no one was in the buidling for check out early cause we felt sick staying in that cottage. I even had hotels.com call the owners and they said they will review my refund request but never reached out. Never refunded. THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE DO NOT BOOK

Beautiful setting. Convenient to Svínafellsjökull Glacier and Diamond Beach. Older cabins but well kept and clean.

It was a quiet little property in a nice setting. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook an easy meal. The rooms are tiny, like we could barely fit our suitcases inside and still have enough room to walk around. One of the beds wasn’t made up downstairs so we had to grab bedding from a different bed in the loft area and move it downstairs to use. Also one of the pillows had blood spots on it which is pretty gross. Other than that everything else seemed clean.

Magnifique cadre propre et très bien chauffé

In general we enjoyed our stay but there are some areas for improvement. In Cabin 5, the shower faucets were not labeled and we could not figure out how to shower without scalding ourselves. Even after we got help from Reception it was nearly impossible to graduate to a reasonable heat level. Also since we were out and about most days, it was hard to be at the hotel at a time when the reception office was open. Their hours are not very user friendly (early mornings or late evenings would help!) And finally it would be great if each cabin had a mirror outside the bathroom given that these rooms are set up for large groups. Cabin 5 had an extra mirror while Cabin 4 did not.

Dont let the app photos fool you. We had cabin 1 (closest to the office). There where power sockets hanging out of the walls, nails and screws also. The microwave was missing a leg so it was very lop sided. The matreses sagged alot, it reminded me of a half circle. The shower head doesn't stay facing upwards as the bracket was broken, there is no wifi as signal is so weak you can not conect (and we were in the cabin closest to reception where it came from) the t.v didnt work either. The heating was terrible as well. There was a sign saying the temperature cant be adjusted so it was quite cold. The cabin looked to me to have been built in the early 2000s and no significant maintenance done since.

The cottages are similar to what you would have found at original North American cottages years ago. The living space was big enough for a family with some newer furniture. The rooms are small with bunk beds, and barely space for small suitcases. One of the bunks in our room was missing a rung on the ladder which wasn’t the best. The cottages would be good for a couple nights, though beyond that, maybe not. The highlight of the trip was the darkness which in our case brought a great northern lights display.

We apparently had made a mistake when booking and t he booking was only for two people. I think the Expedia website resets to 2 adults no children very easily. The receptionist said they had plenty of space in the same cottage since it slept 6. However instead of charging for the extra beds at the normal rate, they charged an extra “penalty” of $60 per bed. What a money grab! Greedy business plan. I would not recommend this place to anyone because of this.

Nous avons été bien accueillies. Le chalet était joli et propre, avec tout le nécessaire pour cuisiner. Nous avions même une télévision dans le coin salon. Un séjour très agréable!

Quick easy check in. Clean, cute cabin. Bathroom was missing drain stopper in sink and shower. Shower floor was badly stained and pieces falling apart.

Die Unterkunft ansich ist schön und mit einer tollen Aussicht aufs Land. Doch leider war der Checkin nicht gut. Es hieß die Rezeption wäre besetzt, war nicht der Fall. Bei der vor Ort angegeben Telefonnummer hat es gedauert bis jemand ran ist und dann nocheinmal bis jemand kam. Der Herr war super unfreundlich und wir konnten unsere Hütte nicht abschließen. Schlüssel steckte von außen fest und war festgefroren. Seine Aussage war ihr seit ja eh nur eine Nacht da. Haben dann während des Ausfluges noch alles im Auto gelassen. Er war super schnell weg, als wir Einwand dagegen halten wollten. Also mit dem Kundenkontakt nicht zufrieden. Unterkunft war ansich schön, die Heizungsmöglichkeiten aber nicht gut, war eher kalt und man konnte die Lüftung nicht verstellen. Die Sauberkeit war okay, das Bad erfüllt seinen Zweck allerdings die Dusche auch nicht sehr sauber. Wir waren froh nur eine Nacht da gewesen zu sein. Würde ich nicht empfehlen oder nocheinmal buchen. Der erste Eindruck zählt und der war bei uns nicht gut. Wir waren zwei junge Mädels vielleicht lag es auch daran.

The cottage has everything we needed and it was so big for 3 people! Love the location! We got to see the Northern Lights! It was awesome to see it behind the mountains above the cottage!

Very remote location with limited resources for dining and fuel. The cottage was clean, simple and adequate for our stay. The two downstairs rooms had bunk beds where the lower bed was a double mattress. It was surprisingly comfortable. These bedrooms were very, very small so there was nowhere to stow luggage apart from other common areas. The breakfast service was nice due to the lack of other options, but fairly limited. It worked fine for us.

Great location between Vik and Dimond beach. Very quite. Bathroom are little small than expected.

We had a good stay. It was a convenient place to stop in our trip around the island. The place was quiet. The cottage is a decent size for four people. The bathroom a bit small. Simple kitchen. We just used the microwave. Check-in was in-person at reception and easy. Don’t miss the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, only a few minutes drive. One of the most beautiful places you will see in your trip.

Una cabaña sin grandes pretensiones. Tiene un termo de agua caliente con lo que hay que andarse con cuidad si hay mucha gente. Ojo que no se incluye el desayuno y da lugar a confusión con el hostel que si lo incluye.

Jolis petits chalets spacieux avec au rez-de-chaussée une grande pièce avec la cuisine, le salon, la salle de bain et 2 chambres avec pour la 1 ère un lit superposé pour 2 personnes et l’autre chambre un lit à étage avec un lit double en bas et 2 lit individuel au dessus. A l’étage une mezzanine avec 2 lits simples. La literie mériterait d’être changée ainsi que les rideaux des chambres , d’époque et ne cache rien de la lumière du jour ! Petit déjeuner buffet disponible dans le bâtiment principal en supplément, celui ci manque un peu de choix par rapport au prix payé ! Très calme, très agréable

Hot water smelled bad. Towels were kind of old. No options for food nearby by the time we arrived around 8pm.

The cottage was cute and comfortable. My family really liked it. Be forewarned that there is no coffee or other basic condiments in the kitchen. If you want coffee, you have to pay for a whole breakfast rather than just a cup.

The cottage is warm and cozy. However the available amenities and utensils provided is really limited for a self catering cottage.
