Quite simply one of the loveliest, friendliest hotels I've stayed in for a while - helped by being in the most beautiful of cities. Friendly staff, great decor, spaces to read and work and good food. Room was lovely and spacious.

This is the best hotel. Very clean, modern, and great staff. The staff is always so helpful and friendly. The location is perfect for going out to dinner and shopping. They even have a car service. Fantastic hotel!

The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. One great amenity was the availability of a free shuttle (particularly for pickups in the evening) which we very much appreciated during our stay over a frigid weekend.

Modern and upscale, very artistic decor. Very clean, great valet service. Beautiful bar with a fireplace area. Great to see some live music! Great restaurant. Pretty buildings just outside hotel and quaint shops a short walk. Great restaurants all around, pubs and coffee shops. Probably the best hotel in Portland.

Overall, excellent location, everything is walkable and the hotel is classy. Id say the valet is a little steep at $40/night, id expect closer to $25/night given the location. The front desk was incredibly helpful. My few small suggestions for improvement would be with the TV, which could not load netflix of HBO and would have made a big difference in our stay. The other area was with the cleaning crew, they did not replace the glasses or coffee mugs that were very clearly used. Additionally there was a lot of dust build up behind the TV(exploring how to fix the streaming) and you could see it in the vents, not an everyday cleaning area so it's due. Lastly, it's a dog friendly hotel, which we loved but the cleaning crew always gave us dirty looks in the hallway with our dogs, who were not barking and being well behaved. That was unnecessary. Overall it was a good stay with some opportunities for improvement

Very nice hotel, clean, modern and efficient. Room was very comfortable Restaurant was nice- lot resources of hostess- waiter MIA frequently- maybe repurpose a hostess? Pricey to park valet in off season- staff was very friendly and helpful- snowy streets and such would not wanted to try to deal with parking and carrying luggage Would stay again !

This hotel is absolutely not worth the price tag as there are multiple issues. The first being the car service they promise was out of service and when we asked why we had not been notified of this staff replied that "the service had been out for a long time" yet they still advertise it. The bathroom door is see through which is obviously an issue and there is no ramp to get into the hotel so you have to drag your luggage up the steps as no staff offered to assist. A staff member wrote us a sticky note upon check in of "where not to go" because the area around the hotel is so unsafe. The safe is housed in a drawer of the night stand which means anyone can simply pull the drawer out and walk out with it. The water bottles in the room are not free and cost $6 a bottle which is fine except we were told they were free when we called prior to arrival. Lastly, Wifi is not free either and you can only get it if you are a Marriott member. Which again is not mentioned until you arrive. For the price tag this hotel is not worth it and very unfriendly for differently abled folks.

The Hotel itself was beautiful and very well decorated. The rooms were extremely clean and had all amenities needed. My only complaint was that we could hear music most of the night. Not sure if it was from the street or another room. 4/5 because of this.

Just spent a week here for our first trip to Maine. The location was amazing as there were dozens of shops and restaurants just outside the front door and within a two to three block radius. Many of the attractions we had planned on visiting were just blocks away and the Casco boat ferry shipyard was less than a ten minute walk. We felt safe in the area and the quality of the area was great. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We declined housekeeping service during our stay but the hallways, lobby and front desk areas were spotless. Having worked in hotels for 35 years I can say this property is exceptional and everyone from the hotel we encountered were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.

First rate from start to finish. Check in was easy and fast. All of the staff at the hotel and the restaurant and bar were exceptional. The room was clean, spacious. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. Check was just as easy and fast as check in. 10 out of 10. Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful location in walking distance to many points of interest, shopping, and dining. Front door and main staff were lovely. Complimentary coffee in the morning, and loved the scrabble and chess tables near the fireplace to wind down after a long day of Christmas festivities! Room was impeccable. Cozy bed, bathrobes, and beautiful spacious bathroom.

Great location. Nice staff. Comfortable accomodations. It is very close to the State House, which rings bells every hour on the hour throughout the night. If this might bother you, bring earplugs.

Roomwas spacious but bathroom was a disaster. There was no covering over the bathroom window, so although the glass was frosted, felt like there was no privacy. The shower curtain was cloth and was too long, so it was just soaking wet from the shower water. There was basically no water pressure in the sink and the controls were impossible to figure out.

The Press Hotel is a lovely, clean boutique conveniently located across from City Hall in Portland. Rooms are well-designed, if a bit small, with excellent beds and a rainfall shower in the bathroom. Well placed near enough to both the Washington Avenue and Munjoy Hill areas, as well as to the Old Port area. Portland has become a bit more worrisome for tourists with the number of unhoused, etc. but the areas around the Press never felt sketchy. Overall, strong recommendation. A few nits that we encountered to keep in mind: *City Hall has a bell tower which rings out every hour, on the hour, with the number of that hour (i.e., midnight gets 12 bell tolls). We asked for a room away from the bell tower and didn't really notice it, but if you are a light sleeper take the time to request a distant room; *TV in room was difficult to operate and Wifi was not strong enough to allow for streaming (fine for other uses); *The door to the lovely rainfall shower doesn't fully seal causing water to seep out on the floor unless careful; *Occasionally calls to the front desk from inside and outside the hotel went unanswered, as there is typically only one person at the desk; *Our in-room fridge was not on when we arrived and we requested service while we were out. We returned to find a cold fridge but the door had been left open. Nothing happened, and the front desk was appalled to hear about this, but not exactly best practices.

Location is very good, the place looks very nice with well themed decor. Restaurant was very disappointing, we were waiting to be seated for long time, the service was busy talking and ignoring us, ended up good because the restaurants down the street were great. Same with breakfast, weird service and food was average. Valet crew were sweet and helpful, they knew to answer questions that couldn’t be answered by the front desk.

Never got into room We arrived at 4:45 they told us they had maintence problem just our room and they moved us to another hotel after we valet our car. This was a very bad experience and we didnt get our marriot awards.

Overall this hotel was excellent and I would definitely stay here again. The rooms were completely updated, comfortable, modern and quiet. DEFINITELY fantastic compared to what you might expect in the area, and better than many big city hotels, too. The front desk staff were terrific, and the kitchen staff were incredibly accommodating with special requests.

Staff went above and beyond everywhere - valet, check-in, bar, restaurant, housekeeping. Customer service was amazing. Food was great. Facility was beautiful. Valet was easy and loading/unloading a breeze. Highly recommend! Will definitely return in future!

This hotel is absolutely not worth the price tag as there are multiple issues. The first being the car service they promise was out of service and when we asked why we had not been notified of this staff replied that "the service had been out for a long time" yet they still advertise it. The bathroom door is see through which is obviously an issue and there is no ramp to get into the hotel so you have to drag your luggage up the steps as no staff offered to assist. A staff member wrote us a sticky note upon check in of "where not to go" because the area around the hotel is so unsafe. The safe is housed in a drawer of the night stand which means anyone can simply pull the drawer out and walk out with it. The water bottles in the room are not free and cost $6 a bottle which is fine except we were told they were free when we called prior to arrival. Lastly, Wifi is not free either and you can only get it if you are a Marriott member. Which again is not mentioned until you arrive. For the price tag this hotel is not worth it and very unfriendly for differently abled folks.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Press. Great location. City location so be prepared for typical city noises- right next store to a fire station. But so much is walkable and the staff/valet are all wonderful. Rooms are small but modern and very clean. Great beds!

We attended a show at the Merrill Auditorium and this was on the corner across the street - WOW - most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Everything was lovely - the decor was great and the service top notch! Will be back!!

The front desk and valet were great. They were friendly and prompt and helped me to get my car from the valet and warmed up the next morning. That part was seamless. We had a deluxe room and it was spacious, and the bathroom was beautiful and modern- with robes! My only complaint is how expensive the restaurant and bar were and that they weren't open all day. The food tasted very good. I live in the NYC area and I am used to pricy food, but this was a bit much and the drinks were very overpriced for what I was served.

Modern and upscale, very artistic decor. Very clean, great valet service. Beautiful bar with a fireplace area. Great to see some live music! Great restaurant. Pretty buildings just outside hotel and quaint shops a short walk. Great restaurants all around, pubs and coffee shops. Probably the best hotel in Portland.

I have stayed in other Autograph Collection hotels and this one is so fantastic. The location, the amenities, the space. I loved it! The bed is very comfortable and I loved the food at the hotel restaurant, Union.

This hotel is trying to be more than it is. The whole theme is based on being an old newspaper office and those references are everywhere. Ok but whatever. It’s way too expensive for the level of comfort or service. The expense is only justified by its location. This is Portland Maine. Not Manhattan. Just cost too much. The restaurant is odd at best. Again they are trying way too hard. The menu is very limited and the menu is trying to be hip with lots of one word descriptions leaving you wondering just what you are getting. I don’t think many people are there for some high end gastronomic experience. It’s a hotel. They want something to eat after a long day. The server didn’t seem to know what anything was other than reading back the poorly written menu as it was written standing there like a deer in the headlights. What came was not to order and the portions were not entree size at all. The muscles were a small appetizer size or maybe if this were a multi course dinner it could have been an appetizer course. This was not dinner!! and way to expensive. To top it off they were just ok. Not well cleaned and rather bland. After a very noisy night with a bathroom door that wouldn’t latch. Worn out furniture. And HVAC that was all or nothing we texted to have the valet get our vehicle to find it had been parked outside over night in an ice storm!! Everything was frozen shut!! I was soooo mad. I never would’ve paid $40 for parking knowing this up front.

I had a modest room that with just enough space for me to walk on both sides of the king-sized bed without bumping up against the walls. In view of the nearly $1300 a night room rate, I thought it not unreasonable of me to expect complementary bottled water and perhaps a shower cap and Q-tips in the bathroom.
