Very close to the beach and Stern's Warf. Our room was like most basic king rooms in a small hotel. We had a fridge but no microwave, However, when i asked it the hotel had a microwave we could use our host, Kirsten, said yes and she would get it for us. She is a small lady so I offered to carry it. She handled it by herself. Just and example of the excellent service we always get here from the staff, and the reason we keep coming back. Jose, the manager, and Humberto are always very helpful and fun to talk to.

The only 2 things preventing it from being a 5-star review are the parking lot (it's REALLY tight) and the lack of plugs near the bed. Apps from that, our stay was very enjoyable, and the staff was absolutely phenomenal!

Definitely average accommodations; yet the cost was above average. Location is good if you want to be near the harbor, but the rooms are small, the linens are basic, there is no ice machine, soda machine, or any vending machines that we could find. Really basic.

Clean facilities but you don’t receive much for $400 a night. There’s no coffee in the morning nor breakfast. It’s a clean room, and safe location. The carpet needs to be pulled.. it’s a bit grimy and definitely stained. Plugs for charging are overused and don’t hold a charge.

The room does not have a microwave, however the receptionist delivered a small microwave to our room when we inquired. The location is quiet, including the park. We felt safe. Walkable distance to the marina, the pier, and to State Street. The entire area is walkable with many wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and places to sit near the beach.

No one was at the front desk for about 15-20 min and I had to go to the bathroom. The place is is decent but the carpets are kinda of gross. Not sure if I will be staying there again. Its a nice location.

Very quiet and clean. However if you have any sensitivities to musty/moldy spaces I would reconsider your stay. I'm very sensitive to mold and I had to change rooms (#18) because the first room I was given was intolerable. Luckily they were able to move me.

Enjoyed my stay. The place is very close to Cabrillo Blvd, which runs along the beach, so it's only a 5-minute walk to an ocean view and about a 10-minute walk to State St. The room had just about everything I needed, the bed was comfortable. The WiFi was decent, not super-fast. One of the nicest things about this place is that it's right around the corner from Toma, which has a great cioppino. And other good restaurants are within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Loved this place and would absolutely stay here again! Upon arrival, I was given a free upgrade to their King room, which was spacious and comfortable. The room was immaculate and beautifully furnished. AC (central) was excellent and very quiet. Easy walk to the pier and harbor and lots of wonderful restaurants. I couldn’t ask for a better experience!

Convenient location to Fisherman’s pier amenities and the beach for walking. Easy access to highway to explore other areas. Easy self parking. Room was fairly large and comfortable though lacking USB ports. Some noise from passerby’s audible from in the room but not significant.

Not my favorite stay. After a long day of travel the front desk was on break when we arrived. There was no one to check us in and we had to wait in the parking lot for 30 minutes for them to return. They have an issue with their hotel room keys deactivating which happened to us twice during our stay even though we were careful to keep them away from cell phones and electronics. I was terrified it would happen when front desk was on break.

The staff was friendly, they went beyond for us! They upgraded us when our room was booked incorrectly. They allowed us to check out later, if needed, and were just wonderful. I recommend staying here, if you have to do any activities at the pier or harbor. We were in a regatta, so it was super convenient.

The staff here was amazing. Several times I forgot my key in the room and the staff made me a new key with a smile. Even had the manager run and get us a key once. The location is amazing, we walked on the beach and down to shops and restaurants every day. Would definitely recommend this place and we look forward to coming back.

Everything was just as shown in the ad. Room was comfortable, clean, equipped with coffeemaker and refrigerator. Location was convenient to harbor, wharf, beach, and downtown shopping. Tommy at the front desk was especially helpful. Would definitely stay there again:)

We stayed here during Valentine’s Day weekend. It’s a lovely little Spanish style hotel. There was a storm and the power went out in the entire city. The hotel went door to door giving out glow sticks and flash lights and was very helpful in answering our questions in where we could drive to find the nearest city with power for dinner.

Customer service was excellent, Jose was very attentive and even provided information on local dining options and bike rentals. The location was easy walking distance to the beach. I will definitely stay at the Castillo in again.

Castillo Inn at the Beach was perfect! Exactly the type of hotel/motel I love! One story, quiet courtyard, parking right close to your room. The patio was an added bonus. The front desk manager, Jose, was so welcoming! We loved our stay and would definitely return.

We were looking forward to stay here near the beach until we arrived and there was a park next to the property which had around 50 homeless people hanging out. Since it was the same day they would not refund our money. We choose to stay somewhere less that was safer.

Love this hotel! It is convenient to the harbor, wharf, and Funk Zone. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Hotel is quiet and has on site parking. This was our third time here and plan on returning next year.

This was our second time staying at the Castillo Inn. The rooms and staff we friendly and this time we did get the room with the patio. It was nice to be able to walk out and sit out. Only downfall that is not against the hotel but the park across the street had a lot of homeless. Plus someone was honking their horn every night that was parked across the street. I would come back because the hotel is great and the rooms are good size.

Everything was just as shown in the ad. Room was comfortable, clean, equipped with coffeemaker and refrigerator. Location was convenient to harbor, wharf, beach, and downtown shopping. Tommy at the front desk was especially helpful. Would definitely stay there again:)

Great hotel for a great price in a great location!! Very clean with a comfortable "feel". Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Was worried about noise because the walls are thin, but they have a strict noise policy and it was no problem. The location is amazing... walked to dinner on the wharf, and to breakfast on the main drag and to the beach. Highly recommend!

Clean facilities but you don’t receive much for $400 a night. There’s no coffee in the morning nor breakfast. It’s a clean room, and safe location. The carpet needs to be pulled.. it’s a bit grimy and definitely stained. Plugs for charging are overused and don’t hold a charge.

Enjoyed my stay. The place is very close to Cabrillo Blvd, which runs along the beach, so it's only a 5-minute walk to an ocean view and about a 10-minute walk to State St. The room had just about everything I needed, the bed was comfortable. The WiFi was decent, not super-fast. One of the nicest things about this place is that it's right around the corner from Toma, which has a great cioppino. And other good restaurants are within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Very nice room! Plenty of room to wheel our bikes inside for the night. Friendly staff. Easy check in/ check out. Close to beach/shopping/dining/Stearns Wharf etc. Coffee in the lobby would be a nice addition 🙂

This place was a nice sunny one floor building across the street from the beach. within walking distance of many shopping and running options. 10 minute walk into downtown. Staff was friendly, and they made everything convenient even going as far as making recommending places to find in the area.

Near the beach and the Wharf. Easy drive to the SB Mission. Pretty basic room, but clean and well put together. No breakfast, but they tell you that up front. Definitely, would stay again if in the area.

Great location; less than a block away from the bean, and about 15 minutes away from both wharfs. Their amenities were so great, however. The website showed a photo of a basket of small bottles of hair products and body lotion. The body soap, shampoo and conditioner were now in hanging bottles within the shower -- which was wonderful. But, the body lotion was no where to be found. I went to the General Manager and mentioned that there was no body lotion. Since I was flying in from Virginia, I have to minimize the amount of liquids I can carry and specifically did not pack any body lotion because it had been shown on their website. The Manager said they no longer carried it! Really! For the price I paid for this room, I would have expected to have ALL the usual toiletries. Two days later he provided me 4 small bottles of body lotion. Excellent. But I feel I was an exception just because I "complained". I was staying 5 days at the hotel to attend a wedding. The hotel needs a door sign that says "Room Needs to be Cleaned". They only provide a "Do Not Disturb" sign. So there were 2-3 days that my room wasn't cleaned. Even when I told the front desk I would be out for several hours mid-day, I came back to an unmade room and no clean towels. I had to hunt down a maid to give them my dirty towels and get new ones. Again, that could have easily been remedied with a door sign that said "Please Make Up Room" (or something equivalent.

The filtered water feature was a definite bonus for us - as we drink a LOT of water and don't do tap water when traveling. The rooms are spacious, Parking is a bit tight for a larger vehicle(ie truck) but manageable. It's walking distance to the beach, marina, pier, shops, and restaurants. Great little boutique hotel.
