DEFINITELY NOT UPSCALE! EVEN THOUGH I FELT AS IF I WAS IN A CONCRETE PROJECT LIKE JAIL CELL, THE ROOM WAS JUST FINE! IT WAS COZY & CLEAN! SIMPLE! NO NONSENSE! The bed was nice & LARGE! The maids, janitors, cleaning crew, neighboring guests and people across the street WERE WAY TOO NOISY - banging on pipes & things and slamming doors! The parking is GOOD! Compared to other hotels & motels that I have visited, THE PARKING LOT IS REALLY HIGHLY ACCESSIBLE! DIRECTLY! NO LONG HAULS FOR MY LUGGAGE! I JUST LOVE THAT! NO EXTRA PARKING FEE EITHER! My room had keyless entry, which was good (no key card to carry around) and bad (had to have 6-digit access code readily available). The room was comfortable and suited my needs. You could hang a door sign if you needed maid service during the stay, which made it eco-friendly. The room was fairly clean, although the floor probably could've used a good scrub. The AC unit was appreciated but was awfully noisy. There is free parking (but the spaces are small) and a decent coffee shop on property. Tip Top is conveniently located in Lihue, so it is near almost everything.

The Tip Top Motel is very close to Lihue airport and easy to find. They have ample parking because the Cafe is a popular breakfast and lunch spot. I had a late check-in so I did not actually interact with any staff until I checked out. The room is what you would expect of a motel. It's a bit large compared to other hotel rooms I've stayed in but the furniture is not new nor matching. As long as it was clean, I was ok with it. There was a mini fridge in the room but it was unplugged. The outlet had the tv plugged in and everything and I didn't feel comfortable plugging in the fridge as well so I left it. I was on the 2nd floor, right above the restaurant and it was pretty quite. I rented a car but the motel is close enough to restaurants and other main streets that have shops and stuff so it's pretty convenient. I really liked staying in Lihue because you could go north or south easily and you're not stuck driving all day long. Compared to other parts of Kauai, Lihue and the surrounding towns felt the most "city" and you can find lots of shopping/ dining or whatever comforts you need. I was able to eat at the Cafe after I've checked out and had the Loco Moco. It was pretty good! The gravy was not as heavy compared to other places and the burger patty was juicy. The restaurant space is large but they've sectioned the seating area. I would stay here again because the location was convenient but a family looking for other amenities should probably look elsewhere.

Convenient in the area but the room had termites and table wasn’t cleaned with hair and food smears on it. Termites on the bed and in the bathroom sink. Floor felt dirty and no icebox. Overall it was okay.

The staff was friendly. Other than that, do not stay here the room was dirty and was infested with cockroaches. I was there a night and received a refund for the other five nights. Stay anywhere else but here.

My brother and I spent two different segments of our trips here at Tip Top and throughly enjoyed it. It was relatively clean, comfortable, and quiet. The communication of the staff for the self check-in was superb. The diner downstairs was fantastic. The location was very convenient to many things in the area. One of the things that brought us here too was the cost, which was very reasonable given the area. The only thing negative was in our second room there were some things that needed to be cleaned better (the walls around toilet and bathroom in general), we didn’t have a fridge like we did in our first room, and our plug and lamp by bedside was broken.

Its kind of a "you get what you paid for" situation. Did not feel worth $165 a night. Bed was pretty uncomfortable and saw bugs crawling on the floors. Nice area but not such a nice hotel stay.

Clean room. Basic amenities. A motel best describes the room. Great restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Air conditioning was very loud. Close to Airport so you can hear planes taking off. Check-in is all by email which was simple. Good for one night stays

Location is very convenient. Bathroom shower smelled liked mildew and mold. The bed was very squeaky and blankets were super thin and didn’t smell clean. TV kind of smaller than expected but still working. The phone plugs on the lamp did not work. It was ok. However service was great and staff are very friendly and helpful. I picked the Tip Top because I had an early flight and wanted to be near the airport-the room was basic,mattress was not new more like camp, the TV was good,The Cafe was closed so I did not get to try it but a local said the food was very good. I could hear the airplanes,trucks,motorcycle noise which I am not used to but I made it to the airport on time whcih was the goal.

This is Motel 6 of Kauai. The hotel has been updated with vinyl floors and the bathrooms were redone in the recent past. The beds are Motel 6- firm and you can feel the springs a bit. Maid service is intermittent at the moment, but the room starts clean and basic. Inside, the rooms are painted block, but are clean. The A/C works, but was quite loud. The hotel is in a residential area in Lihue, so you can hear rice rockets and loud cars. The windows are standard Hawaiian glass slats that do little for noise abatement. Most hotel guests were quiet. Two permanent residents of the hotel live on the lower floor, so a random table is outside and sometimes there is a group hanging out, but never past the 10pm quiet hour cutoff. Don't be intimidated. Walking by, they offered a beer and I hung out for a while. Kauai has gotten very expensive so this is a reasonable budget option if you need a place to sleep. The bakery and breakfast room open at 7am and are packed with locals on weekends, but that is the only amenity.

The room was clean but not much to it. No chairs or tables. Just a bed, tv and looked like a new shower. No hand towels. If you are looking for the bare minimum this is it. No coffee or ice. But then again who stays in their room in Hawaii.

Room was small, nothing fancy. It was very clean with a king size bed and a decent bathroom. It is very close to the airport which made it easy to get to for an early morning flight. It was comfortable enough and a good fit for us for the one night.

It was a room for the night. That's all I needed and that us certainly all I got. It was clean. The bed was comfortable. The rooms in the old cinder block building have a wall air conditioning unit installed, good. It is loud and very close to the bed. We could also hear other guests coming in late at night. It served its purpose for me , but next time i will probably upgrade, spend more.

Way too expensive for the actual accommodations. The best thing I can say is that it was clean. Hard to tell though with everything being brown.

Great location, however there was no hair dryer (I had to buy one from Walmart down the street). Check-in time is from 3pm and onwards, but front desk is only open 7am to 2pm. So basically if you run into any non-emergency) issues after checking in, you have to wait until the next morning to resolve it.

Very thorough and consistent communication from Tip Top from initial reservation months earlier through check-in. They make sure that guests know what to expect and what to look for during after hours check-in which is 2pm daily. On the other hand, guests are greeted by an intimidating letter on their beds upon arrival which warns of all kinds of potential fees for mishaps or missing items. It’s quite terse, intimidating, and lacks tact.

Even though our check in time was at 3pm they allowed us to check in early. After having spending the night in the baggage claim area at the airport. A shower and a nap was surely welcomed. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!.

This motel is an excellent value (considering Hawaii prices). The room was comfortable with a nice TV and cable package in a great location, a block from Hilo Hattie's with several restaurants, cafes, and fast-food places nearby. Just a mile from the airport. I actually walked back to the airport the next day to rent a car.

The Tip Top Motel is very close to Lihue airport and easy to find. They have ample parking because the Cafe is a popular breakfast and lunch spot. I had a late check-in so I did not actually interact with any staff until I checked out. The room is what you would expect of a motel. It's a bit large compared to other hotel rooms I've stayed in but the furniture is not new nor matching. As long as it was clean, I was ok with it. There was a mini fridge in the room but it was unplugged. The outlet had the tv plugged in and everything and I didn't feel comfortable plugging in the fridge as well so I left it. I was on the 2nd floor, right above the restaurant and it was pretty quite. I rented a car but the motel is close enough to restaurants and other main streets that have shops and stuff so it's pretty convenient. I really liked staying in Lihue because you could go north or south easily and you're not stuck driving all day long. Compared to other parts of Kauai, Lihue and the surrounding towns felt the most "city" and you can find lots of shopping/ dining or whatever comforts you need. I was able to eat at the Cafe after I've checked out and had the Loco Moco. It was pretty good! The gravy was not as heavy compared to other places and the burger patty was juicy. The restaurant space is large but they've sectioned the seating area. I would stay here again because the location was convenient but a family looking for other amenities should probably look elsewhere.

The Tip Top Motel was one of the highlights of our Kauai visit. The bed was very comfortable, the room was simple and just what we needed. The food in the café downstairs was perfection. Try the banana pancakes. The coffee was outstanding, the service was quick. Only a mile from the airport. Will definitely stay again.

We chose this motel for its location near the airport (1 mi) and reasonable price compared to the fancy re$orts! Its very functional except lacks a microwave or any way to heat beverages (cafe is totally closed- it’s Christmas) Theres a convenient Texaco station a few blocks away for coffee & snacks.

My brother and I spent two different segments of our trips here at Tip Top and throughly enjoyed it. It was relatively clean, comfortable, and quiet. The communication of the staff for the self check-in was superb. The diner downstairs was fantastic. The location was very convenient to many things in the area. One of the things that brought us here too was the cost, which was very reasonable given the area. The only thing negative was in our second room there were some things that needed to be cleaned better (the walls around toilet and bathroom in general), we didn’t have a fridge like we did in our first room, and our plug and lamp by bedside was broken.

I booked this hotel for it's location and price for 2 nights prior to spending 7 days in Princeville. The bed was comfortable and basically clean. It is very basic but that was what I expected, just a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. We were not impressed with the restaurant for breakfast which we were told was great. I would say medioca at best.

This place is excellent for being close to the hospital. You can actually walk the 1/2 mile if needed. If you want to save money for activities, this is the place to stay. The cafe has a great breakfast menu, we never did the lunch. There is minimal toiletries, towels and furniture. Some rooms may have had more than we did. No hair dryer or iron. We had a folding chair to sit on, other than the bed. Air conditioner was noisy. No phone as well, front desk closes at three I think.

Arrived late. The AC was not on it was super hot most of the night. There was food still in the room from the previous guest and ants crawling everywhere way overpriced even to be in Hawaii for this type of hotel should be half of what it is.

For the price this is a GREAT option. Centrally located, amazing breakfast/lunch place downstairs and all the required basics for an over night stay. It isn't fancy but makes up for it in local charm, history, fair price and location. Only issue for me is walls are thin ( or some people are exceptionally inconsiderate/loud -- I'd suggested posting asking guests to be mindful of noise and disturbing others. I stayed 3 night - 2 of those I didn't get much sleep ( next time i'll bring ear plugs in case you get noisy - late night neighbors.) . Regardless I'd absolutely stay here again!
