The School House Countisbury

We had an absolutely lovely time in the School House. Without doubt, it was the best holiday home we'd ever stayed in, with the most amazing setting and views. Walking out onto the patio on the (sunny) Christmas morning was fabulous. No traffic, plane or agricultural machinery noise, just the gushing of the stream below and the twittering of birds in the bushes. The house was so well equipped. The cooks in the family were thrilled to find all manner of bonuses - two ovens, cake tins, multiple speed peelers (they counted 7!), hand blender. Nothing seemed to be missing. We also loved the drawer full of tools. Then there was the space - masses of it for the kids to run around in, the plentiful books and board games, the piano and table tennis table - and the tub of Lego was a masterful touch. Loved the little separate sitting room too, a quiet retreat. All in all I'd like to congratulate the owners on pretty much thinking of everything, and thanks for a wonderful Christmas experience.

This is the most amazing house to stay in, the wine and flowers upon arrival were a lovely touch. The house itself was everything we expected kitchen stocked with every appliance and utensil and crockery required this was fab. The house lends itself to big groups beds are very comfortable, all rooms are large LOCATION is the best we have found in the UK to date. 3 generations of family had a lovely holiday with visits to Lynton, Lynmouth and Dunster Castle, drove to Ilfracombe and drove back after the laid back atmosphere of Lynmouth, did walks every day it was just fab actually feel we had a holiday. On our last day saw a calf being born in the field, deer's arrive first thing in the morning and last thing at night Grand-daughter loved the wildlife... A big must take BINOCULARS

Fantastic house fora three generation family holiday. Living space was very large and all open plan, spacious enough to play full size table tennis. The views from the patio were stunning. We could walk to a pub, always a bonus! The walks from the house which ranged from 6 to 12 miles were all stunning.. The house was very well equipped for a large party. Close to Lynmouth for icecreams, fish and chips and a pint on the beach. We would all definitely recommend the house.

We had so much space to make use of. There is a table tennis table, lots of board games, a rowing machine, a piano and two TV’s in the house. The views from the house is amazing! It’s a brilliant area to explore, it’s like a mini Switzerland. I would absolutely recommend the School House and the area to visit. We are planning to return again next summer, well worth the visit!

My friends and I spent a week during New Years at the school house and loved every second. The area has views that are unbelievably beautiful and that comes with blissful peace and quiet and great walks. The School House itself has a lovely well equipped kitchen and a fun communal / dining space. Our friend group particularly enjoyed the piano and ping pong table. We walked lots of nice areas and visited some good friendly pubs nearby too. Would strongly recommend for anyone looking for some peace from the outside world, good views and easygoing times with friends and family.

Exceptionally spacious and well equipped, heating was good on cooler evenings and the log burner was welcome. Hot water was plentiful despite the three bathrooms. A very comfortable stay for larger groups and families, the second main sitting room was useful for when not everyone was doing the same thing. The walk down to Brendon is picturesque, keep to the east side of the stream and join the lane through the gate by the farm for the last few hundred yards.

We love the location and accommodation offered by The School House. It’s our 2nd visit and fantastic for groups who love dogs! Great open plan kitchen and living room. Love being able to walk through the fields down the valley and back. Generous with hot water heating and logs for the wood burner. Im sure we will be back!

We three families had a fantastic time staying in this old schoolhouse. The main room is huge and offers so much opportunity for fun as a group. There’s so much space. Rooms were clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed with loads of crockery and cutlery and utensils. All in all an excellent experience.

10 adults and one dog had a fantastic long weekend at the school house. The new kitchen was great and we have never had every utensil and sharp knives that we needed before. The location is fantastic and we walked down to Brendon and back quite easily. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was clean. We are definitely going to rebook again soon.

This is a great holiday cottage for larger groups. It lived up to our expectations in every way. Although it was only the two of us on this occasion, we would be more than happy to book again for us and our extended family, hopefully in the not too distant future. The house is warm and comfortable and has a special character being a former school. We liked the privacy, whilst being within easy reach of the coast and other places to visit. Everything was exactly as described, high standard of cleanliness and equipment. As it was only a short visit, we were more than happy to spend time relaxing and enjoying the surroundings, as well as exploring some shorter walks in the area.

Plus points: The location, availablity of walks from the door, cleanliness, well equipped, good information. Negative points: None!

The school is nestled in a stunning valley, very isolated with amazing views. The house itself is fantastic with its spacious living room with piano(well tuned) and table tennis. It is really well equipped with everything you need. Bedding and towels good quality and clean.

Absolutely perfect stay this weekend. Was perfect for our mums 60th Birthday! The pictures do not do the property justice! It’s huge and spacious. I could stand and look out at the hills for hours (and we did). We would love to come back and stay again! Thanks for having us!

Great family property for a Christmas getaway! Lovely family room. Comfortable bedrooms. Easy walk to local pubs. Great scenery.

We were staying for a week - 3 generations, with a teenager and a toddler and a dog. We loved the big living room, where we could all be together without feeling cramped. We loved the outside seating, too, with the most amazing view. The kitchen is very well equipped and roomy and it's great to be able to get meals ready while being part of the living room/watching children play. It's a comfy, unfussy house - just what we needed. Thank you. We enjoyed visits to Minehead, Porlock and Porlock Weir, Lynton and Lynmouth and a trip to Dunster Castle (National Trust). The dog especially enjoyed walks beside the river.

A beautiful place to stay in a beautiful location. There was so much space and it was really well equipped. Lots of places to explore locally. One of the best places we have stayed.

The School House is a wonderful property for large groups. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed. The enormous living/dining room makes for a great place to gather. We enjoyed meals on the terrace overlooking the valley as the sun went down. The bedrooms are comfortable with a good mix of single and double beds. The bathrooms could do with some maintenance but essentially everything worked. While there are a number of lovely walks directly from the doorstep, a car is recommended for exploring this spectacular part of the world. Having said that, we had groceries delivered and used local taxi and bus services.

Very spacious, beautifully presented. We especially loved the large lounge and kitchen gave a feeling of all being together. Although it was January, the house was very snug and warm throughout. The showers were hot and powerful. The scenery is stunning. Will definitely book again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great space for a large group...the stairs are very steep and the landing not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Everything was very good, from the helpfulness of the booking team and promptness and the quality of the accommodation in terms of how it was equipped and the space available and it was warm too. Amazing views

We were a group of 8 adults,5 children and a baby and the property suited all our needs perfectly--lovely views,peaceful setting,near picturesque places like Porlock and Lynmouth and within reasonable travelling times for amazing surfing and sandy beaches like Woolacombe. Happy memories of a family holiday !

Birthday celebrations for 3 busy families and 2 dogs Cottage perfect location for walks had to drive to the beaches though ! Unfortunately the Stags pub wasn't open for lunches during our stay Ping Pong table was a hit !

We have had an amazing stay at School House. The setting is just perfect - isolated, with wonderful views across the surrounding fields. The house is equipped with everything you could need. This was our three families first get together for 18 months due to Covid and School House was the best setting - the kids and the dogs happily ran free in the garden and house with a table tennis table and rowing machine to help occupy them. Adults were able to relax with a glass of something on the spacious patio. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and the washing machine and tumble drier were an added bonus. There is plenty to do in the area - lovely walks, plenty of dog friendly beaches, crabbing, coasteering, lovely towns/villages to explore. We will definitely be returning!

Ensure you have all the groceries you will need for the first night and following morning as shops are not around the corner, also ensure you have a torch.

The location was ideal for walking through the beautiful valley down to Lynmouth. The views from the property are stunning, it really is an added bonus to see and hear all the wildlife especially the stags!!

This property is in a spectacular location, it is just what we wanted after spending a long winter in lockdown. The peace and tranquillity is perfect, yet only a stroll away from the little village of Brendon to the Staghunters (sadly closed until May) and a longer walk to the Rockford Inn (also closed until May). We didn’t need to use the car and had booked a Sainsbury’s delivery for provisions to the house. The property is spacious inside, the kitchen is very well equipped, probably the best I have seen of any holiday cottage and the showers are very good too, we found the beds comfortable and although it was frosty each morning we felt toasty and warm inside. We hope to be back sometime, I would image in any season it would be delightful. Next time we will take binoculars to really indulge in wildlife watching, we were lucky to see deer and foxes in the fields. Lots of baby rabbits came to play just outside the big school room windows.

Old friends meeting up, lots of rain during the stay but that gave us a good excuse to stay in and hunker down. It’s quite far from shops/pubs etc but the little extra effort makes the silence well worth it. We’d love to come back. Could have done with one or two more basics like sugar (if you forget anything it’s a planning mission to get supplies, so small things like this can feel tedious), otherwise we couldn’t have asked for more!
