The Magazine Hotel & Apartment

The hotel is located in an apartment building next to St Stephen’s Basilica. This made it a little confusing to find at first. Select Magazin on the intercom and you will be buzzed in. The windowless reception is on the first floor, second floor to Americans. There are stairs in the entryway with a ramp (see pic) and an elevator to your right (see pic). The receptionist was lovely and spoke English well. Our room was on the 4th floor (5th to Americans) with large windows overlooking the Basilica and pedestrian zone square. Room was quiet, a/c was good, bed was comfortable, location was great. However, clothes from a previous guest were left in a cabinet that the tv sat on, we put them on the floor (see pic) and told reception when we left. No closet, instead a portable stand with hangers, not a lot of counter space in kitchen, but it did have fridge, microwave, etc. Not a lot of shelf space in bathroom, but enough towels, toiletries and hair dryer. The shower was large enough, but the cold water pressure came and went very quickly, so you had to be prepared to get out from under the spray or get scalded. It was a hand-held shower head with a holder that slipped out a few times before we got it in securely. Our receptionist was extremely nice and was horrified when we told her about the leftover clothes. On balance it was not expensive, location was great, but I would likely stay at a different hotel on a return visit.

Vi fikk en kjempefin leilighet i 3 etasje. For vår familie på 4 var den helt ypperlig. Plassert midt i smørøyet, kunne se tårnet på Basilicaen gjennom vinduet, selv når en lå i sengen. Skikkelig sentralt og lett å nå de tingene vi ønsket å gjøre i Budapest. Litt kronglete med en heis som kun tålte 3 personer men ellers helt topp.

Clean small room in an excellent location. Getting in when the 'door open' app was not working was an ordeal as it took a while to get someone on the phone. Checkin was 3pm, not 2 pm as mentioned on the site.

Was locked out when I came back in the evening as my phone battery had died. I was given a key card for my room but the door to the hotel was locked behind a keypad. No hot water in the morning so had to have a cold shower,

The hotel's only true asset is its excellent location, but sadly, that's where the positives end. As a digital nomad, I'm very comfortable with digital check-ins. However, the system here is a perfect example of what goes wrong with zero flexibility or human support. We arrived 30 minutes early and there was no way to store our luggage or even get an update on our room. We were left completely on our own. ​The biggest issue was the complete lack of hot water during our stay. When we contacted support, they blamed an "external problem" and offered no solution. This meant no showers before a long travel day. The room itself was small and dark, with a window facing an internal courtyard that provided no natural light or ventilation, forcing constant use of the air conditioning. On top of that, the cleanliness was subpar, with visible stains on the headboard. ​Finally, be warned that breakfast service doesn't start until 9:00 AM, which is highly inconvenient for anyone with an early schedule. ​While the location is a major draw, the hotel fails on the absolute basics: functional amenities, guest support, and cleanliness. I cannot recommend this hotel and suggest looking elsewhere.

It was near many restaurants, attractions, & shops which was very convenient. The elevator has a very small capacity but staff were very helpful.

Stay was great, checkin experience was not ideal as the open door app was not working.

The location was excellent for this property, but it is not quite the hotel you are expecting. The property is located beside St Stephen’s Church and is on top of all the major places to visit but the hotel is more like a concept, they are semi-modernised rooms inside a run down building where the lift (which is akin to something out of the shining) only holds 3 people and if you opt to walk up the stairs, at night it’s a little worrying as the lights don't automatically come on and you are walking in the dark. Reception is only open until 8pm and then is unmanned, there are no phones are in the room if needed. No extra pillows were given when asked for as they had none to give, but did however have extra blankets. It’s a little like a hostel, definitely not what I was expecting. Only provided one coffee each for one day in the room and the kettle was dangerous as didn’t switch off, but clean. Would not stay here again and should be no more than 2 stars.

The staff and service at this property were wonderful. They were warm and welcoming and eager to help. The location was amazing with a beautiful view of St Stephen’s out the window. However, the bathroom was a very difficult situation. The drain in the shower ran extremely slowly - even with the water just trickling out, the shower drain couldn’t keep up. My daughters and I took extremely short showers so the water wouldn’t pool, and even still we couldn’t run enough water to wash our hair. There was also a drain in the middle of the bathroom floor that had a broken cover - so essentially there was a treacherous hole in the middle of the floor. But the worst issue by far was a terrible odor that was present in the bathroom. It was sometimes very strong and sometimes almost undetectable, but it made for a very unpleasant bathroom experience. Overall, other than the bathroom issues, we would have been extremely happy as everything else was great!

Gorgeous quirky stay, very spacious room. Staff was friendly and location was amazing would stay again. Was spotlessly clean and beds where very comfortable.

It is a short distance to tram station and there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby.

We ended up staying at their other property (air bnb) that's 10 minutes away and we were not informed until we were about to check in. There was no transparency until the last minute and we were left with no choice. Air bnb property was not clean and there were no toiletries and not enough towels. Would have rated zero star if not not for the breakfast.

Great location, very convenient and walkable. Good if you just want a place to sleep. Getting there is a bit complicated, especially after hours. Rooms are nothing fancy, and not the cleanest. Dark hallways. Bed and linen/pillows weren’t the comfiest.

I never received a single email from the hotel & I am guessing they have it wrong. The check in process was a nightmare. Claiming it’s a hotel is a stretch. It’s more like a bad Airbnb. They asked me to leave the money for the city tax in my room! I am willing to pay the tax, but not by just leaving the money unattended. The room was dirty & poorly maintained, paint was peeling off the wall. No idea where the breakfast was served. The stairs to the 2nd floor were very poorly lit. Wasn’t offered housekeeping until after my 4th night. This was the worst hotel experience of the past 20 years & certainly feel entitled to a partial refund.

But it's at the same time a lovely view, if you select the Basilica-view rooms and close to public transport, shops, the chain bridge etc. The cleaning could use a little improvements, but overall it's fine. Note that if you order included breakfast, it's in a cafe about 10 minutes walk away. For us it was fine, but good to know. Use the hotel's Watchapp-service if any questions. They answer really fast. Check-in is fully digital - but we got help by Watchapp. We got our room before 12am even check-in time only is at 2pm, so that was really nice.

Nice, clean and tidy The only drawback could be the noise at night as it is located right at the busy plaza in front of the famous Basilica

Location is absolutely fantastic. Centrally located in a lovely location. I had the basic room with no view of the basilica but I was out the whole time so not important. I’m sure the rooms with views would be stunning. Clean rooms freshly decorated. Lovely girl on reception recommend a local restaurant to me which was amazing. Thank you and see you next time I’m in Budapest.

Emplacement magnifique! on ouvre la fenêtre et on découvre la basilique ! Le logement est propre et très spacieux. Nous tenons à remercier la réceptionniste pour son sourire et son amabilité. Nous avons pu lui laisser nos bagages en attendant notre départ pour l'aéroport. Situation très centrale et accessible à pied à la plupart des zones touristiques du côté de Pest. De nombreux cafés autour pour prendre un café / petit-déjeuner rapide. Chambre spacieuse et propre avec kitchenette avec le nécessaire pour préparer le petit déjeuner et éventuellement manger. Un grand ascenseur permet de rentrer avec tous les bagages ! Nous étions au 4ème étage et la chambre était accessible par un double sas : une porte principale blindée puis notre chambre avec une deuxième clé. Bref, ne pas hésiter à choisir cet établissement pour une visite agréable de Budapest.

We loved the location of this hotel. The room was clean, modern and overlooked the st Stephen basilica. We paid a little extra to face the cathedral, which made it special. There were shops & multiple restaurants nearby and a lively night life that quieted down by 11pm so was never a problem. 2 things were off putting with this hotel/our room. 1) Once you find the hotel, you realize that the rooms all seem to open to the lobby in an apartment that was converted to a hotel. The receptionist/reception area was about 3-4 meters from our room door, so our room didn’t feel particularly private. And since there was a large table about 1.5 meters from our room door, at anytime of the day or night random guests could be sitting there. On the other hand, maybe that means the rooms have more direct supervision. 2) Since the hotel is just above the ground floor, when the blinds on the room windows were open, it felt like people could see in, so we felt that we had to keep the blinds shut at night which defeats the purpose of having a view. I wish the blinds could have covered the bottom part of the window to block people in the square below but still allow a view of the cathedral. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I would try a more traditional hotel next time given the many options.

Modern design interiors. Basic, but I did not need anything more. Room very clean with beautiful view– worth the money. Karolina at the reception desk - very, very helpful. She stayed 2 more hours over her regular working time to help me out with the online reservation issue. Sehr schönes Apartment in der besten Location direkt im Zentrum. Das Girl am Telefon war super nett und hat mir ganz schnell mit dem Tür-Code geholfen. Alles Bestens! Gerne wieder.

First of all, the room was very clean and comfortable. There was a kitchen area to prepare hot drinks and simple food which was great for a solo traveller. However, it was hard to access the building. I pressed all the intercom buttons, annoyed someone I disturbed, and eventually had to ring the hotel number to get access when arrived. The woman on Reception was lovely, however my room was not ready despite being past check in time. She was very helpful and put me in another room instead. This was not a problem, however, they did not change the room number or key card for a late arriving couple who opened the door to my room at 11pm that night! They were very tired but we managed to contact someone who sorted it out. For a solo traveller this unnerved me. Fortunately I was still awake and was not yet in bed. But it caused a lot of stress for me and the poor couple who were only following the instructions they had been given. The hotel is in a great location, is comfortable but really needs to sort its administration and guest management processes out.

au coeur de l’action, parfait pour la vie nocturne, moins si vous êtes à la recherche de tranquillité. Le seul bémol est le manque de stationnement, il faut utiliser ceux sous terrain qui reviennent à 60$CAN le 24h. Sinon, la localisation et la vue sont parfaites.

Perfect place for a three days stay in the middle if the city. Walking distance to a lot of attractions and activities, combined with great transportation options. Highly recommended.

Great location! Literally right in the plaza by the basilica. It is a bit odd to find and they didn’t really give instructions now to get into the building in order to check in. So it was a bit weird at first when I got into the building and didn’t see a lobby. But overall great place. Would recommend.

Lovely apartment on St. Stephen’s plaza. Hear the bells ring. Clean and comfortable. Great staff. Lots of good restaurants and easy to see all the sights. Great value.

Went to Budapest to visit the Christmas Markets. The location of the Hotel was just perfect. Right outside one of the main Markets, 5 minutes walk from the Airport Bus Stop. Room was comfy and clean. Would recommend as a base to explore the City. Right outside St Stephen's Basilica which is also the starting point for the Hop on Hop off Bus Tours.

Great location. Easy to walk to many areas. Close to metro. A little bit hard to find as it’s basically a door with a sign above. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved having a kitchenette with grocery stores nearby.

Fint værelse-god størrelse. Fantastisk udsigt fra værelset. Fin morgen mad på restauranten 10 min gang væk-lidt svær at finde-man skulle ind igennem en smøge-blomster ved indgangen. Hotellet Lidt svært at finde-kunne have været bedre skiltet. Ligger i mellem 2 restauranter, lige ved kirken.
