We arrived at the Hotel (after driving in a cab twice around the block not even seeing the sign) and there were homeless people lying on the streets. We buzzed to get into the hotel and had to walk up to the next floor to see the desk behind barriers. I asked where our room was - and it was on the very top floor (no elevator or bellhops). I was handicapped - and there was no way we could carry our luggage up 4 flights of narrow stairs - so at least the person at the desk gave us our money back with no hassle.

I like that they offer water at the front. I was dissapointed with the shower because it was impossible to get a medium tempereture, it was boiling or freezing. I was also bummed out that at the time of my stay the microwave wasn't working but that seems minor. Over all great experience for the price.

Spartan, small rooms, shared bathroom. Plenty of restaurants coffee houses etc near by. A few homeless close by. Parked overnight around the corner, on 17th st, nothing happened . Pretty good but wouldn't bring kids here.

I needed a place to stay in the area to help a friend. The hotel is clean, and the staff is friendly. This hotel is a great option if you are on a budget. I would not recommend this location if you need a car. Parking is difficult and the garage nearby is not safe. My car was broken into during my stay at the garage around the corner.

I wasn't expecting a lot, but was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the room and bathrooms. I like the Mission district and it's colorful atmosphere, and never felt unsafe. The crowds and noise did not bother me, I found it entertaining. Price was reasonable, and with so many places to eat and BART right there, it was great for me. Best thing was late night buses to the airport were available several short blocks away and were inexpensive and very convenient for early flights before BART opens.

SUPER close to a BART stop for easy train terminal and airport access, extremely clean, the management seems to be very responsive. Great food options nearby. Neighborhood is rough, but if you can handle a city it’s absolutely fine. This is a fantastic cheap stay in San Francisco and I’ll be back.

The staff is very nice, but the hotel is in a dangerous neighborhood, the sheets were stained, the window didn’t lock, the shared bathrooms were dirty. If you are hoping for a reasonably clean place to stay do NOT stay here!

This hotel is really just fine for what it is. I was a little bit disappointed that their wifi would not work, but this is really a minor criticism considering the price (and the facts that the staff are great and they keep the whole place nice and clean. Definitely a good value overall!

This place is a great value. Not fancy but how could it be for the very low price. It is hostel level accommodation but you get your own space. It is very clean and everything works. Shared bathrooms were always easy to get into and clean. For the price it is excellent.

This is closer to a hostel with individual rooms. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It is very basic, and does not have a/c. It was cool though, but I would have packed a small fan for air movement. Shared showers and bathrooms, which were also clean. I would recommend bringing ear plugs, as the walls are pretty thin. For the price, it was what expected.

my biggest complaint is that there was no air conditioning. but the vibes and atmosphere of this hotel were great. pretty cool and neat place. fun to stay for a few days. I don't recommend staying for longer than four days. it's like crackhead central right outside this hotel. but honestly, it just made the experience more memorable. cheap little hotel, but it has its charm.

I knew this is a low end hotel in view of its price. I booked this one just because it is close to the Bart station. But when I came to the hotel I was shocked. It’s much lower than I expected. The property is so poor and surrounding areas are so terrible. I felt very unsafe when police not present especially at night. Bedding is old and dirty. I didn’t take off my clothes to sleep. At night I was so cold then had to use blanket covering the lower part of my body. The promised Wi-Fi didn’t work. I talked with the manager, she tried to fix but no use. Finally the Wi-Fi worked on 2nd day. The managers are nice but the property and amenities are really bad. I think Expedia shouldn’t have that low hotel on its list. I will never use it.

As long as you understand the fact that it's a simple, single room with a shared bathroom and nothing else, you should definitely be happy with the experience. The staff at the front desk are as nice as can be and the overall experience was better than I expected.

We arrived in the hotel with a bit of a problem, as our luggage was lost on our way to San Francisco. The hotel manager, Steve, was incredibly helpful and kind to us. He even offered us his phone so we could call the airline. The hotel itself is OK. The room is quite small and the bathroom facilities are to be shared with other guests. Everything was clean and tidy however. We didn’t experience any noise or trouble. The only downside is the location of the hotel, as it’s right in the center of mission district where a lot of homeless people have gathered. We didn’t feel unsafe, but it did feel a bit uncomfortable at times. To summarize: Steve is awesome and his hotel is nice. You get what you pay for.

Room temp was set to ‘Coldest’ setting, and there was nothing you could do. Upon telling the lone staff in an encaged front desk, she was dismissive and uncaring. Will never stay there again

I didn't expect much for the price, but this hotel shouldn't have been half of what we were charged. Let's start with the area. Homeless people everywhere. We didn't stay, so I can only imagine how it is at night. Room was tiny, and smelled. Not even an hour there and we spent it desperately seeking other hotel accommodations until we finally found one. Asked the front desk if we could cancel our reservations(even 1 of the 2 days) and they said no. We ended up paying for 2 hotels on this vacation, but we were happy to just for the peace of mind that we'd be safe and comfortable. We do research on a hotel before making the decision to chose a hotel. Rating for this hotel wasn't the greatest, but there's no way this room deserves the ratings it has. Community shower AND bathrooms are horrible and tiny. DON'T STAY HERE!!

The hotel was nice and really affordable, really great staff. Nothing wrong with the place itself especially for the price but San Francisco is just a really gross place in most parts. Convenient as well though it’s right next to the BART station which makes getting around without a car really easy and affordable.

Union Hotel is in the heart of the Mission. The area around it is a little rough, but the hotel is safe, clean and quiet. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and this is the best spot I’ve found in the city for affordable rooms.

Community shower AND bathrooms are horrible and tiny. DON'T STAY HERE!!

I wasn't expecting a lot, but was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the room and bathrooms. I like the Mission district and it's colorful atmosphere, and never felt unsafe. The crowds and noise did not bother me, I found it entertaining. Price was reasonable, and with so many places to eat and BART right there, it was great for me. Best thing was late night buses to the airport were available several short blocks away and were inexpensive and very convenient for early flights before BART opens.

SUPER close to a BART stop for easy train terminal and airport access, extremely clean, the management seems to be very responsive. Great food options nearby. Neighborhood is rough, but if you can handle a city it’s absolutely fine. This is a fantastic cheap stay in San Francisco and I’ll be back.

I knew this is a low end hotel in view of its price. I booked this one just because it is close to the Bart station. But when I came to the hotel I was shocked. It’s much lower than I expected. The property is so poor and surrounding areas are so terrible. I felt very unsafe when police not present especially at night. Bedding is old and dirty. I didn’t take off my clothes to sleep. At night I was so cold then had to use blanket covering the lower part of my body. The promised Wi-Fi didn’t work. I talked with the manager, she tried to fix but no use. Finally the Wi-Fi worked on 2nd day. The managers are nice but the property and amenities are really bad. I think Expedia shouldn’t have that low hotel on its list. I will never use it.

Management accommodating my late check-in as I had travel issuesand didn't arrive until after midnight. Room and bathrooms clean. Mostly quiet and just steps away from BART, great location.

My go to for San Fran exploring on a budget. Very accommodating staff and the area is prime for local food and attractions. I was on and off trains and buses to explore on my work down days and everything I needed to do and get was within walking distance.

I needed a place to stay in the area to help a friend. The hotel is clean, and the staff is friendly. This hotel is a great option if you are on a budget. I would not recommend this location if you need a car. Parking is difficult and the garage nearby is not safe. My car was broken into during my stay at the garage around the corner.

La verdad fue un estar bastante bueno, del aeropuerto al hotel en metro es excelente, y de ahí a otros puntos es buenísimo Lo único que no me gustó es que alrededores hay mucha gente sin hogar y drogas pero es muy seguro de igual manera. Si bien es un edificio antiguo, la limpieza es muy buena, las habitaciones, los baños, excelente en ese aspecto.

An old building near a street corner that’s apparently a big homeless gathering place. But the staff are friendly, the rooms are solid and clean with soft beds, and the building is secure. It’s also very close to a BART station (the aforementioned corner gathering place). If you’re 1-2 people looking to stay in San Francisco for cheap and don’t want to consider a hostel then it’s a good choice.

The surrounding area is... seriously unsafe. The room was smaller than most bathrooms. The bathroom (4 per floor) was just a toilet and a door and shared between everyone on the floor. There are 2 showers on each floor which can easily fit two people, maybe 3. The sink is in each room. It was hot that day and we had to keep the window open, no problems there except the noise from outside keep increasing as the afternoon and evening went on. There was no way to get a sound night sleep, even with the window closed which would still have made for a poor night's sleep. The staff was very good at what they did, but overall I cannot recommend this hotel and we certainly will not go back.
