Hunter’s Grille & Tap at the Grafton Inn

Property under total renovation, which we did not know. Have stayed here many times and were looking forward to dinner, but everything shut down for renovation. Hopefully they will also renovate the rooms to.

When we booked this property we did not know that the restaurant was closed for renovations. We've stayed there in the past & loved that we could just go downstairs for a meal or drink.

The hotel staff were nice and very polite the only upset I had was no bar and grill to eat at as they were closed for renovations and we did not know until we arrived. other than that I would definitely go back again .

The building itself is a large, and almost spooky place. On the ground floor there is a barbershop and a restaurant, both closed, it appears that the restaurant is under construction and there was quite a bit of construction related debris inside when I looked in at the window. My room was a rickety elevator ride up to the top floor of the three story structure, followed by a walk down adark and dimly little hall. However, the room itself was quite nice. I had two very comfortable beds (only touched one) plenty of space, three or four windows, and a very nice, if small, little bathroom. It was clean, cozy, there was even a fireplace — although there was no indication if it worked and no fuel even if it did. Open the restaurant, put some more lighting in the halls, spruce the place up a bit and you’d have a very nice place

7 rooms on 3rd floor of old buiding but easy parking, shops etc. Used as base to drive to Boston. BUT key lockbox did not work when arrived at 7 pm. No staff at anytime but luckily found a guy who gave me a spare key. Lifts dont work.

The elevator was not working. I have a dog with short legs, and three flights of stairs is a lot over three nights. Other than that, our stay was great. I hope they can get the elevator fixed before our next visit.

The Grafton Inn was perfect for our moms' getaway trip! It's part of a quirky old building - and the grille was unavailable, remodeling, I think - but our room was very fresh and comfortable and much more spacious than we expected. Perfectly clean, easy to access (elevator), and as described. Thanks for a lovely stay!

This place should be closed down. It is verging on derelict. It needs some serious refurbishment before it is used as a hotel. The corridors are smelly with dirty carpets and stained ceilings. The bedrooms are large but grim. We stayed for one night but considered sleeping in the car! The restaurant had long closed down.

There's a difference between "shabby chic" and just shabby. The room itself was pleasant, the mattress tolerable, and the towels very nice. But the caulking for the shower door had black mold, and the shower door CAME OFF IN MY HAND when I tried to slide it shut. Easily put back on, true, but c'mon... And the toilet seat looked like it was from the 50's. These are very low-cost fixes. A little elbow-grease and a trip to Ace Hardware. One more lamp wouldn't hurt, too. I had to use my phone's flashlight to read!

The key for my room was not there. The drain didnt work in the bathroom sink. It was fixed for me same night but after 9:30pm! The windows werent even weather stripped and the window A/C wasnt even futted correctly into the window and the room was actually open to the outside in the gaps. Traffic on the street below sounded like it was driving through the room. The room faced the town common, which was a very pretty view but it was so noisy, and the church bells on the hour were so loud. There was dripping water inside the room from condensation on the A/C. When that was found, mold was also found in the carpet at the baseboard where the water was dripping and at that point mold was also found all over the A/C unit. It was inside the vents, outside the vents and on the unit itself. There was a very ild fireplace wich made the room rustic, but it was not functional. The bed was very comfortable and i slept well until I started having allergy symptoms due to mold.

I don’t usually do negative reviews but with this property having a 7.8 out of 10 rating I really feel I need to do this. First, when we arrived it was 78° outside 84 in our room and the air-conditioning did not work then I discovered That we only had one towel and one hand towel. I texted whoever was in charge asking for more towels and they didn’t even respond there was black mold in the shower stall ceiling. The place was generally not clean and beat up. It is on a busy street that was noisy, has train tracks right outside, and a church across the street that rings its bell every hour. They had a coffee station, but no creamer.

The room was clean and nice, the bathroom was stocked, the parking was a little complicated to find based on the gps directions but i can't fault the establishment for that.

The Grafton Common area was really sweet… We enjoyed walking around and visiting the antique shop around the corner. The checkin was easy… when we found that our key wasn’t where they said it would be, we call the number provided and they quickly rectified the situation. The hotel is needs a lot of love. everything is worn down. the entrance way has steel restaurant shelves cluttering the area. the elevator smells wet, the ceiling in the room is stained with water leaks, the wood work is dirty and chipped, the bathroom has mold growing on the ceiling and the finish on vanity and mirror are peeling off. It was inexpensive for a reason.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was exactly what I was looking for. Super quiet, ultra clean and safe. I would highly recommend this spot especially for those who are looking for something low key and oh by the way there is a library directly across the street. Look forward to a return visit. Tim H

Michael was so helpful and kind when we checked in. Stairs and the carpet, on the way to the room, needed to be vacuumed. The room and bathroom were clean. There was a strong smell of marijuana in the hallway.

AC is too loud

No desk or place to do work. Wound up working on the bed with my laptop. No other counters really to keep things UP off the floor. Furniture was old. Trim on the lamp was literally hanging off it. Had to kill a few large flying bugs, and it looks like there might have been some remains of bugs along the back wall behind the bed and bedstand. Air conditioning worked great. Towels were NEW and FLUFFY. WIFI was FAST & SOLID. Bed felt fresh, new bedsheets, etc. TV was good. Bathroom did NOT have a bathmat, and the skimpy 'shampoo' packets were silly. (At least have two of them per day per person.). The one main outlet looked 'fried' and it wouldn't 'hold' anything plugged into it. I wound up having to pull back the nightstand and plug laptop and chargers into that and the one in the bathroom. Ample easy parking, but not protected. Elevator was great to have. I would stay there again, but the room needs to be updated and BOTH blinds fixed (they were literally broken, very shabby.)

Very comfortable bed, easy instructions for entry, and overall a good stay for passing through. No bath towel in the bathroom. Window A/C unit battle with central heating to cool the room. Would have been nice to have a chair, and the blinds definitely need replaced.

An attractive old building on a beautiful village green. The rooms are attractive and pretty basic, but have a TV, small fridge and private bath. The bed is nice and comfortable. I like the old traditional furniture and light fixtures. My one minor issue is that the bathroom sink faucet needs service, like new washers because it leaks a lot when you turn the water on. I have made a couple of one night stays for early business meetings so I haven’t gotten to know Grafton but it seems like a nice place to stay. There are nice restaurants and coffee/ice cream shops nearby.

The Grafton Inn is currently under renovations and new management, so it feels like a bit of a transitional space: the restaurant and barbershop are closed, and there is no desk staff. But the owners were extremely proactive about reaching out by text message, the room was lovely and in excellent shape, and you really can't beat the location. We're looking forward to seeing how it looks when they're done with all the changes.

We arrived before the 10pm time and no one was on property which I heard was common. Also the building is basically a back door that has an elevator that goes up. The downstairs is all under construction vs. abandoned. Another group did not get the same text we had about how to get a key and couldn’t contact management about how to get a key. We went up to our room, it was very stuffy so difficulty breathing. After an hour we left because I couldn’t breathe and the front door doesn’t lock so anyone can come off the street and there were actually 4 kids running in the hall looking for a bathroom. Anyone can enter from outside at any time. Also if you know the trick to get a key… anyone can get any key at any time. I texted them to say we were leaving and why. Haven’t received a response. I would NOT recommend. It seems like they are trying to be something that could be quirky, cool if more was done but comes off as unsettling and safety also a concern.

Staff never responded to messages

The manager was very nice and immediately responded to our questions and calls. When we arrived, the temperature in the room was 56 degrees. The last night we were there, the room contained a lot of cigarette smoke, that seemed to come from the heat duct. we left the door open and turned off the heat to help clear the air. The storm windows were partly open, so that when it was cold/windy, there was a draft in the room from the windows. We liked the location and the room itself, and appreciated having small refrig. which was not expected. Hopefully when the remodeling downstairs is complete, more attention can be paid to the sleeping rooms. We hope to stay here again when we visit my daughter.

Arrived mid afternoon and front door, and side door, were locked. Back door was open but the place was in the middle of being redone. It was a construction site. No one was around. Walked upstairs to find one floor that seemed like it may have been open. Approx 10 rooms but I had never received any instructions for my arrival so we had no idea what to do. Called the number the site had posted, and it was out of service. Found a note with a name and number to contact and it was also out of service. While searching for humans, another couple arrived and were doing the same. They also booked on hotels. Whenever renovations are complete, it may be ok, but now it is a bad joke. From no employees, open construction site, and fire extinguishers that were outdated by 3 years ! It’s not only a disgrace it was listed for use, it was also a fire hazard and should be condemned. In the middle of fighting to get my money back. I did get a welcome check in text with instructions BUT at 5:30pm ! Totally messed up our plans and on a Saturday of graduation weekend, scrambling to find a place last minute was not only difficult, it was very expensive and totally out of our way. I have never experienced anything like what we did and hope never will again. Hotels should be ashamed to even have this hotel posted !

The property is not safe. There is no one on the property to greet you or to tell about problems. The front door is always unlocked so anyone from outside could enter and use the elevatòr getting off at 3rd floor where rooms are.

Staff is very helpful. A lovely place.

It's very cozy. Interesting how you check in. No hassle directions was simply and accurate. Will stay here again and tell others.

There is no front desk. There is no security. The exterior door that leads to the rooms is open all night and there is nothing to stop an intruder other than the door to the room itself. No one picks up the phone at the published phone number. If you have a problem, there's no one to speak to. Stay away from this place.

NOT RECOMMENDED. The local bell tower next to the inn goes off every hour all night long. Do not expect to sleep. It is also not staffed and the building looks abandoned. The rooms are on the 3rd floor. No check in instructions were sent. I had to call the inn and got someone to tell me where to find the lock box. Very creepy for a solo traveler. No info inside the room & it seemed as no one else was checked in. At least there was heat & a comfy bed. Definitely not worth the price.

Quintessential New England town center with green in the middle, this classic inn, and several old churches. Comfy beds in clean rooms. Wallabies to coffee place with breakfast and lunch options, a great antique shop, and a deli as well as a cute general store and a street with beautiful historic homes.

The room was clean and quaint. It was really hot, but i just slept with the windows open and vents closed. My only issue which has nothing to do with the Inn itself..is the church bells that go off to mark the hour are loud. Obviously, this is not the inns issue.

The property had a charming look to it very comfortable

This is a very convenient place to sleep and rest in. Nothing fancy, but excellent location close to commuter railway into Boston. Parking is 4$ at the train station for all day parking and you have to download the app to pay. The train tickets can be purchased through either the app or on board the train with either cash or card 😉 . This is absolutely THE best way to get to Boston without the traffic headaches.

Historic property in town square

I was a solo woman traveler, and I stayed at this property for one night. The room was clean and the host was very responsive. The location was loud because of traffic but I felt safe there. The restaurant was closed for renovations so I had to eat dinner off site but renovations are good for any business. I was looking forward to eating dinner at the hotel and will do so if I return to that location.

This is a lovely historic building in a clearly historic neighborhood. It was very convenient for our sightseeing visit! I'm very thankful bar/tavern was closed for renovations, so it was completely quiet. I had a little difficulty finding the lockbox, but when I finally saw it, it was SO OBVIOUS. However, it was mounted so high on the wall I had trouble reading the numbers. Thank goodness for cell phones with flashlights!

Good communication and excellent customer service. It would have been convenient if the restaurant was open.

This property was recently sold. Unfortunately, The Hunters Grill &Tap is closed and under construction. We arrived 8pm, ended up at the gas station within walking distance for food. I received a text inquiring our arrival, provided a lockbox code for the room key. We never saw anyone employed or staying the entire time we were there. There were maybe 5 vehicles and a motorcycle in the parking lot. Pleased to find an operating elevator in this historic Inn. The room was basic and had three outlets, all but 1 plug was used. One of the two lamps was missing a bulb, and both lamps were wobbling. Husband uses a Cpap machine, we had to unplug one lamp from behind the bed. Bed is extremely soft foam mattress, not sure if they have firmer beds available. No overhead lights. A mini fridge is plugged into a far corner of the room, the fridge door is hard to open due to the carpet on the floor. There is a flatscreen TV with cable, placed next to the nonfunctional fireplace, in front of the window air conditioner, on top of a side table, facing the side of the bed. A wooden dresser and a closet with an iron & ironing board are in the room. I used the ironing board for a luggage rack. The bathroom is a tub/shower combination. Soap, shampoo, cream rinse for one person, a hairdryer. Extra towels inside the wooden dresser. Coffee was set up in the hallway. Place was very quiet, felt like we were the only people there. Grafton is extremely quiet and safe.
