Great little pub in great location from Gusborne winery. Delicious food both dinner and breakfast. Great amenities in the room. Be prepared for noise until they close.

Very unique and quirky pub. Very nice staff, good beer and the dinner and breakfast were excellent. Highly recommended if you don’t like plastic pub chains!

The pub was quirky with a welcome which exceded expectations. There was a great choice of drinking options. The bedroom very comfortable but too much in the way if decorative items but lovely to have a bath with a view. Breakfast was excellentand we will visit again.

A beautiful village pub, immaculately presented. Staff were extremely welcoming and very focused on customer service. I stayed in the 'Noddy' room which was up 2 flights of very narrow and uneven stairs (to be expected due to the age of the pub). The room was small but beautifully presented with a double ended roll top bath. The only criticism i have is that the room didnt have a T.V. but, fortunately I had my laptop with me. As I was staying due to working in the area i was unable to have the breakfast provided as it wasn't served until 9:30 am. I know that it is not the kind of establishment that is aimed at workers staying and more towards holidaymakers but I think that even holidaymakers may want their breakfast before 9:30 am (please note that the pub did put together a takeaway breakfast bag of pastries, fruit and orange juice for me as a compromise which was very nice but not quite the same as a full english). I stayed on Monday and Tuesday and the evening menu was themed as pizza and burger nights respectively. There were alternatives on the menu but it was very limited. Having said this I partook in the theme choices and the food was of a high standard. The cider and ales on offer were excellent. If I am working in the area again I would not hesitate to rebook. A few things that didn't tick all my boxes but the area, presentation of the pub and excellent staff make it easy to ovelook them. Breakfast time, however and in my own personal opinion, should be addressed.

Probably the most quirky place I have stayed, ( except Frog Manor in Cheshire which I think is now closed ) fab relaxed atmosphere, great English wines, the staff are very helpful 👍

Stayed in a room called 'Niddy'. It was basically a 16th century attic with a bed. This is genuinely the most inhospitable hotel room I've ever been in! Floors were bare floorboards, full of holes, gaps and very uneven. The tiny bath was next to the bed, the washbasin was in the room with the bed, the only mirror was at 90° to the sink meaning you were shaving blind while crouching down. The toilet was in a cupboard off the room, but the eaves meant you couldn't stand up facing it, so you had to reverse in and sit down to use the toilet regardles of the function you had to perform! Lighting in the toilet was a table lamp. The eaves also meant crawling to get in and out of the (comfortable) bed. There were no surfaces to sit things down, so wallet, watch, keys etc lived in the wash basin! There was no proper furniture (table pics attached). The room lighting was awful, and to get to the room the stairs were downright dangerous. There was no tv or internet access. On the plus side, the food, although basic was fantastic, soup was delicious and the cod and chips is the best I've ever had. Service was iffy though. Because I was leaving before breakfast started at 09.30, yes, really, 09.30, I was promised a breakfast tray outside my room ... it never appeared! This is a picturesque country pub with great food, dodgy customer service and woeful accommodation.

We love these hotels. Quirky, charming and unique. On this occasion, having never stayed here before, we had a couple of little easily remedied issues. We got shown to our room perfectly, but no instructions on how we leave the property should we need to take dog out for a pee break during night or early morning. Couldn’t go out to car or move until someone arrived, ans anccidently set alarm off. Our room was 27 degrees and despite turning down thermostat and opening windows, didn’t cool until about 3am. No milk in rooms. Bed very soft and mattress broken on one side. So it was a shame some glitches overshadowed our stay at your lovely B&B.

Needed somewhere close to Chapel Down. Arrived late afternoon and was given one of the attic rooms. Quirky but not for normal/tall people. Bath in bedroom, toilet was in a very small area with very low ceiling. Room had coffee machine and kettle but the coffee machine hadn’t been cleaned in some time, old pods, stale drip tray and no milk. Not pleasant. On the positive both the eve meal and breakfast was very tasty and well present.

Great staff, friendly and accommodating, however, the room I stayed in (attic) is not conducive to any guest with mobility problems as the stairs are difficult to negotiate and the room is very cramped with little usable space where you can’t stand upright! The toilet is for sitting only (use your imagination) and there’s only a bath and no shower facility! I stayed while it was very hot and there were no end of flying insects in the room as the windows remained open! Breakfast was provided but didn’t start until 09:30 so I guess most would decline as this was too late.

We were unexpectedly upgraded to a more luxurious suite which surpassed all expectations. Beautiful complimentary beauty products. Would highly recommend this to couples wanting some quality down time. Breakfast was good quality along with the attentive service.

Very Helpful staff,very quirky room in the roof,lovely touch of the free port in the room and because I was leaving before breakfast they left a small bag of food outside my door,Only small niggle I could see for some was no TV,didn’t bother me and also I kept banging my head when getting out of bed and the bath which was in the same room as the bed,I would definitely stay there again but maybe next time see if they have a normal room 😃

Very nice pub/hotel, nice log fire, lovely room’s, and big big old fashioned bath tub in the room, large bed, only drawback no television in the room.very limited lunch items available, the same with the evening menu, very small presented and very expensive steak meal,breakfast was tasty but very strange to have no marmalade offered or a refil of tea/coffee and the full english was very small. Staff were very nice

Stayed in a room called 'Niddy'. It was basically a 16th century attic with a bed. This is genuinely the most inhospitable hotel room I've ever been in! Floors were bare floorboards, full of holes, gaps and very uneven. The tiny bath was next to the bed, the washbasin was in the room with the bed, the only mirror was at 90° to the sink meaning you were shaving blind while crouching down. The toilet was in a cupboard off the room, but the eaves meant you couldn't stand up facing it, so you had to reverse in and sit down to use the toilet regardles of the function you had to perform! Lighting in the toilet was a table lamp. The eaves also meant crawling to get in and out of the (comfortable) bed. There were no surfaces to sit things down, so wallet, watch, keys etc lived in the wash basin! There was no proper furniture (table pics attached). The room lighting was awful, and to get to the room the stairs were downright dangerous. There was no tv or internet access. On the plus side, the food, although basic was fantastic, soup was delicious and the cod and chips is the best I've ever had. Service was iffy though. Because I was leaving before breakfast started at 09.30, yes, really, 09.30, I was promised a breakfast tray outside my room ... it never appeared! This is a picturesque country pub with great food, dodgy customer service and woeful accommodation.

We were unexpectedly upgraded to a more luxurious suite which surpassed all expectations. Beautiful complimentary beauty products. Would highly recommend this to couples wanting some quality down time. Breakfast was good quality along with the attentive service.

Very Helpful staff,very quirky room in the roof,lovely touch of the free port in the room and because I was leaving before breakfast they left a small bag of food outside my door,Only small niggle I could see for some was no TV,didn’t bother me and also I kept banging my head when getting out of bed and the bath which was in the same room as the bed,I would definitely stay there again but maybe next time see if they have a normal room 😃

Staff and particularly the manager were exceptional! Calm, kind, friendly and helpful in all respects. Our room was a design delight with added extras and great in room facilities… towels, robes very soft and lovely and comfortable bed and pillows. So lovely and quiet…. Awoke to birds singing and …. Quiet! Bliss! I should have checked the website more carefully as the kitchen closes at 4.45 on Sunday and no cooked breakfast on Monday mornings but this is suggested by the kitchen times …. Just so others are aware too! Bath was such a luxury snd nice bath salts left us feeling well looked after. It was a lovely stay and we are extremely grateful to the manager and staff.

Amazing staff and food. Ideal location for a very quiet night and unreal surroundings that will make you feel.like you're in some English dream The staff couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and i would recommend anyone looking at for a hotel in the area. Needed somewhere close to Chapel Down. Arrived late afternoon and was given one of the attic rooms. Quirky but not for normal/tall people. Bath in bedroom, toilet was in a very small area with very low ceiling. Room had coffee machine and kettle but the coffee machine hadn’t been cleaned in some time, old pods, stale drip tray and no milk. Not pleasant. On the positive both the eve meal and breakfast was very tasty and well present.

Very nice pub/hotel, nice log fire, lovely room’s, and big big old fashioned bath tub in the room, large bed, only drawback no television in the room.very limited lunch items available, the same with the evening menu, very small presented and very expensive steak meal,breakfast was tasty but very strange to have no marmalade offered or a refil of tea/coffee and the full english was very small. Staff were very nice

A beautiful village pub, immaculately presented. Staff were extremely welcoming and very focused on customer service. I stayed in the 'Noddy' room which was up 2 flights of very narrow and uneven stairs (to be expected due to the age of the pub). The room was small but beautifully presented with a double ended roll top bath. The only criticism i have is that the room didnt have a T.V. but, fortunately I had my laptop with me. As I was staying due to working in the area i was unable to have the breakfast provided as it wasn't served until 9:30 am. I know that it is not the kind of establishment that is aimed at workers staying and more towards holidaymakers but I think that even holidaymakers may want their breakfast before 9:30 am (please note that the pub did put together a takeaway breakfast bag of pastries, fruit and orange juice for me as a compromise which was very nice but not quite the same as a full english). I stayed on Monday and Tuesday and the evening menu was themed as pizza and burger nights respectively. There were alternatives on the menu but it was very limited. Having said this I partook in the theme choices and the food was of a high standard. The cider and ales on offer were excellent. If I am working in the area again I would not hesitate to rebook. A few things that didn't tick all my boxes but the area, presentation of the pub and excellent staff make it easy to ovelook them. An inn of two halves. Downstairs/front of house: we really liked the set up; the pub is designed in an attractive old, rustic farmhouse style. The food was interesting, well-presented and tasty - and there is a separate vegan choice. The staff were all friendly and helpful and service was efficient. All in all, that side of things gets a big thumbs up. Upstairs: I can only comment on the room in which we stayed which was "Niddy". This is one of two top floor rooms, located in the roof of the building. Access is up two flights of narrow stairs, one with a handrail, one without. In the room itself, the roof slopes in on both sides, providing a rather triangular tunnel-like profile that restricts the headroom on both sides of the bed. There is a bath with shower head attachment in the room, but the roof prevents standing up. The WC is in a separate cupboard the dimensions of which would make a budget airline blush. TMI alert, I'm 6ft 4 and could not stand up because of the sloping roof and lack of space. The room facilities were fine and in keeping with the rest of the inn. The portable a/c unit provided was an absolute necessity in the roof room when the outside temperature is 30⁰ + I appreciate that the room was in character with the style of the inn, but there are serious practicality issues which cannot be ignored. The stair access may be a problem for some, likewise the cramped nature of the WC arrangements. It is a delightful spot, but choose your room carefully.

We recently stayed here on a Sunday evening ,the staff were very friendly and helpful ,we was aware that the pub closed early at 8 pm and that a cooked breakfast was not available ,this didn't spoil our time here as the continental breakfast was lovely fresh fruit and yoghurt and warm pastries as we had decided to have breakfast outside as it was a gorgeous morning rather than a pre prepared box that can be sent to your room .We will return here at a later date and recommend people to try .Please note the rooms are amazing .The only issue people may have are the stairs are a bit tight as it's a very old building .

Whilst we only live 15 minutes away we have stayed here on several occasions as it is the perfect place for a night away. Everything makes you feel so relaxed and the team are very welcoming. It has a great atmosphere with good food and the breakfast is wonderful. The country setting is lovely too but within easy driving distance of the motorways, railway and ports. I would definitely recommend
