A few things went wrong with our check in experience. The lobby was busy on our arrival which understandably adds pressure to the front desk staff. After giving us forms to fill in, they didn’t give us any hotel information and asked us to wait for our room to be ready. This was nearly 5pm and check in was meant to be from 2 pm. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a building site, which was disappointing as we had booked a superior room. That said, we completely understand this isn’t something they can necessarily control. However, despite there being two of us, there was only one bottle of water, one glass, one chocolate and one gown in the room. We spoke to the staff about this and they were apologetic, brought up the missing amenities and gave us a bottle of wine, which was good of them. The pool and restaurants areas were beautiful, however, this certainly didn’t feel like a 5-star experience. We’re seasoned travellers and have had more warmth and a better customer focused experience at 3-star hotels.

The room itself was very good and comfortable, and once checked in, the stay was pleasant. However, the pre-check-in experience was not ideal. We arrived early in the morning due to a last-minute itinerary change and were told early check-in would cost $70, which we were fine with. The issue was the lack of communication — we were asked to wait without being told how long, while traveling with a child. After waiting about 15 minutes with no update, the manager attended to other guests, and only after we mentioned canceling was availability checked and a room assigned shortly after. Extra fees and waiting are understandable, but clearer communication, especially when traveling with a child, would have made a big difference.
