Historic Franklin Hotel

Property has trailer parking off site, they have staff to take you and your luggage to and from the parking lot which was very nice. Our room was on the 2nd floor, elevator was quick. The bedroom window looked right out onto the veranda bar which was a little surprising for any privacy but it was honestly fine, just surprising lol

Only 3 stars for condition bc it's under renovation. However our room was completely redone and was beautiful and comfy. Did is amazing. Service is excellent. Parking is off site and about a block away walk, but no issues there, and there is some one to give a ride if needed or wanted. Hotel is beautiful.i don't if I'd want to stay anywhere else.

Love the old rustic charm. Like the free parking but didn't like that it was a block and a half away.

Cracks in walls and ceilings, floors creaked when walked on, old slow elevator. Told we would be picked up and taken to parking 2 1/2 blocks away when checking out but nobody showed up after waiting 15 minutes - we finally walked their, carrying our luggage there as street was blocked off and thought it would be difficult to return with car and pick up luggage afterwards. Bell hop was very friendly older gentleman and quite knowledgeable about area. Vending machine for root beer drinks was out of order. Shower was old but powerful yet sink did not have enough power to shave with. Entire building needs to be demolished and rebuilt from ground up.

Hotel is old and rustic, ok with that. Parking is 2 blocks away with limited shuttles, not ok with that!

The Franklin is an old school style hotel but its not horrible to stay at all the staff are amazing free parking and to and from shuttle.

Only stayed one night; wanted to check out the town. Really enjoyed the balcony! Had a couple of drinks and enjoyed the view; great spot to watch the action downtown!! What a beautiful building! We aren't gamblers so the casino was wasted on us. Wish that at least one of the spaces on the main floor was a restaurant. We had dinner in the basement restaurant. Was the most delicious meal on our road trip!! We'd highly recommend the friendly Franklin to everyone!!

Was an excellent stay. One very small negative was their parking is limited, so I was in leased parking. Was not sure if I parked in the correct lot.

The ground floor is beautiful. They make the parking very convenient by transporting you with a golf cart back to the Hotel after parking. The rooms are the very WORST rooms I have ever stayed in and should NOT be rented out to the public. The carpet was so old that it no longer stayed flush to the floor. The entire floor smelled of urine. Tiny and dark room. The smell was the worst & I did not want to write this review but felt that it would be wrong not to.

We loved the Franklin. I would stay there again. My only issue is that the carpet looked old with stains and it was so hard to get the water to stay the same temperature. It was a great place though and like I said above, I’d stay there again.

Location and history are what you’re paying for with the Historic Franklin Inn. Parking 2 blocks away. NO DAILY ROOM SERVICE. For our $800 stay for the weekend I was very frustrated to learn this. Especially when they had “service needed” signs to hang on the door knob. I placed the sign on the door and came back that night to dirty towels, full trash can, and unmade bed. When calling the front desk, I was unapologetically told there is no room service and they would have someone bring clean towels. The room had a nice view, but was in need of updating. Bathroom had CAKED calcium buildup on the shower head, dingy towels and bathtub with peeling caulk and stained tub traction. The room itself had peeling popcorn ceilings and goodwill furniture. Also, no mini fridge to store leftover/drinks was an inconvenience. Cleanliness throughout the property could definitely use more attention. Mounds of cigarette ashes near the benches, vomit next to the trash can in front of the hotel, finger prints all over the doors/windows/elevators. And don’t get me started on the restaurant Legends downstairs. While this is one of the nicest features of the property, the service for dinner was rude. We had an excellent breakfast there, but when returning for dinner the inexperienced hostess was unapologetic, and the young male bartender was extremely rude while sitting at the bar. Overall, I appreciated the location, historic aspects, and the friendly door man.

We wanted a historic stay, not a typical hotel while in Deadwood and while it was “historic” or room was nothing like pictured when we booked. It was very run down, sheets and comforter had stains on them and the decor was nothing like the website showed. Tons of dust everywhere, stains on the carpet and while I can appreciate vintage furniture, one was in need of some serious TLC and one looked as cheap as the day is long. It was a place to sleep and that’s about it. Doubt we’ll stay there again unless we’d have no other choice.

Front Desk ladies were great, Bartenders were great, rooms were a mess. dead Fly's everywhere on the window seal, stains on the carpet, smallest TV I have ever seen in a hotel room. Just a little advise for the Franklin Hotel, a little attention to detail would be great, maybe shampoo the carpet & remove some of the stains. Maybe just dust the window seals. Stains on the vents. Good thing we were not in our room much or we probably would have left.

Room was very outdated, not clean, stained linens, uncomfortable bed, clothing left from prior guest, dirty and other guest items left under the beds.

The room smelled of mothballs and the carpet was stained all over. Hot water was so inconsistent we could not shower without freezing or scalding. Massive amounts of paint/enamel was missing all over the tub and sink.

It was what you expect from an old historical hotel. If you want all brand new…. Don’t stay here but if you want the experience I recommend it.

Our stay was for a relaxing couples retreat. Our room was large and spacious. I really like the historic atmosphere, with all the modern convinces. The front desk staff were most friendly and helpful.

Positives are location. It is right on the main street and close to gambling and other amenities. It is upstairs from a fun casino and is a unique historical building. The negatives are the rooms are very run down with cracks in the walls, chipping paint, carpet is very old and stained, furniture is old and worn, water pressure is bad and bathroom sink is a pedestal sink with no counter space. Also construction workers were slamming doors early in the morning. Other Positives were the price was good for weekday and winter. They advertise they are remodeling in 2025, so we may try it again after remodel.

The location is superb. Close to everything we wanted. The casino is beautiful, with real wood trim and fixtures. The atmosphere is pleasant and not too loud. The bars are manned by competent staff and make excellent cocktails. The rooms are authentic, and very reasonably priced. If you want luxury go elsewhere. Even at bare minimum comfort level, there could be a foldable chair and tv tray for computer work. A coffee maker, microwave and frig would also be nice. All in all if you are looking to enjoy the gaming, dining, location, shopping, other entertainment, and then return to your room to rest, this is an excellent price and deal.

The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant is wonderful! The rooms are very dated, however this is to be expected considering this is a historic site. Good value for the price.

Beds were comfortable enough and the room was clean. About the most you can ask for out of an old historic building. Just wish they had mini fridges in the rooms

Everything seems like it's original and antique, it was very cool. Super clean and the view over downtown was really nice! Check in was easy, staff was super nice and the area where the rooms were was so quiet. With everything being original it seemed like our door to the room had seen better days as there was a gap making it seem like a break in would be easy, but the hotel did not give off a vibe that I felt like I had to be worried about it.

The bellhop was very rude. Had to park 2 1/2 blocks from hotel. He said he'd come get me and bring me back to the hotel. He didn't. Had to walk there in 0° weather. Room needed repair. Had a coil furnace that we couldn't figure out how to operate and the bed was right up against it. For such a old building, they could maintain it better and have the rooms alit nicer. Cracks from floor to ceiling. Was very disappointed.

The room was the best we have ever stayed in. The staff is amazing. Tiara and Ashley at registration are amazing. Friendly and very helpful and always asking if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Casino staff were just as amazing.

I had trouble getting my tv to work. I wanted to watch tv to relax before going to bed. I asked the staff at the front desk twice for help. The first time the woman told me she didn’t know how to help. I said we would be back later to ask someone else. When I went back later, several employees were at the desk and no one would help me. I have NEVER been treated so badly at a hotel. They acted annoyed and inconvenienced that I needed assistance with something as simple as a TV. They rolled their eyes and wouldn’t help. It was really embarrassing. I will never stay at this hotel again. It just seems so silly, but I paid to stay in a “historic” hotel in a town that only exists with the money they obtain from visitors…. You’d think they would provide better service.

The property is in desperate need of renovation, which is in the planning stage. My only other hit is the housekeeping. We put out the placard to get maid service 2 days in a row, but never got any service.

I always enjoy my stay at the Franklin. It’s a good base camp. You can walk up and down the streets of deadwood and come back there and it’s always hospital unfriendly and clean.

An older hotel in the heart of downtown Deadwood at an extremely reasonably weekday rate. I couldn't ask for anything more.

What a massive disappointment! The pictures make it look like it's a nice hotel with old west history charm. Our room was absolutely disgusting!! Stains all over the carpet, bathroom not cleaned and the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. I know this is an old building but come on!! Update the rooms, at least get good mattress for your guest! $200 dollars for a room that was worse than a motel 6 is a joke! Franklin hotel management please do better!. Also the $50 dollar crab and prime rib Buffett was just as awful. Meat was over cooked, tasteless and side dishes full of salt. This is nothing like a Las Vegas Buffett even though they advertise it as one.I highly suggest staying elsewhere if you are going to the awesome town of deadwood!

Staff was great , very helpful , food at there restaurant was excelent. Can only speak for my room. It definetly was historic. Push button light switches . Cracked plastered walls , the bathrooom door does not close completely and when open it drifts to the closed position with a creek that would rival any classic horror movie . Altogether it was a good stay and for the price I cant complain .

We have stayed at the Franklin for the last couple of times in Deadwood. We enjoy the hotel and the restaurant. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We plan on staying there again.

Clean rooms, doing renovations and it looks fabulous! Friendly staff, great food. Definitely the place to stay in Deadwood.

We absolutely loved staying at the Franklin! The location was perfect and the buffet and service was excellent. I love that the rooms are kept in their historic decor and the lobby and casino were beautiful. If you are looking for updated and modern rooms you have come to the wrong place but we loved it. The windows did need washing though. We spent most of our time gambling at the Siverado Casino which was across the street from the Franklin and is partnered with the hotel. The dealers ere awesome but the service for drinks was quite slow. Overall we loved it!

Staff was super friendly, food was great. Didn’t realize they still had smoking rooms, so did not specify a non smoking room. That was my fault. **it is an old building, so expect it to be an old building.

Staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the area. The restaurant at the hotel Legends had a delicious dinner and their breakfast was amazing. The hotel was like a step back in time, I would recommend a stay here.
